28th April 2019

It's a first week on top for Raleigh Ritchie aka Jacob Anderson, Grey Worm in Game Of Thrones - I'm expecting him to get killed off when I see the latest episode, along with loads of fave regulars. I could do with Time In A Tree, though the White Walkers did kill off the magic tree north of the wall. Regardless it's a great song with hints of the 30's about it. Talking about fantasy, I just caught the fab Avengers: Endgame and the song played over the end credits dates back to 1945 - and it's in at 15, the wonderful big band sounds of Harry James and 50's hitmaker Kitty Kallen. It's Been A Long, Long Time isn't the oldest recording to enter my charts, not chronologically at any rate, but it is the oldest recording to wait to enter my chart at 74 years, 13 years before I was born.

Talking of 60-year-old's, Madonna gets a 7th number 2 with newie Medellin - she is more likely top top my chart than peak at 2, so we'll see next week if that happens! It's 35 years since Holiday hit my top 5. Billie Eilsh gets her first top 10, 10cc go top 20 45 years late, John Newman and Mark Ronson both get big leaps into the 30, and also from Avengers: Endgame in at 52 after a gap of 47 years since it went top 10 for me as a 14-year-old into superhero comics and records with a sci-fi theme, and so it's perfectly fair that that should be reflected in movies catching up with my tastes at long last, I had to wait 6 years for a decent superhero film, and well into the next century for a great one.

Taylor Swift is back dragging in Brendon Urie to give her comeback track a bit of oomph, Springsteen is back 44 years since Born To Run made my top 20, and he's opted for an Eric Morecombe catchphrase, Hello Sunshine. Sort of. Jack Savoretti can't be bothered waiting for each single to have a decent run before bunging out the next one these days, Macklemore & Fall Out Boy's Patrick give good support to Martin Garrix, P!nk gets a 3rd album track, this time with Chris Stapleton getting his 2nd chart entry, and Florence returns with a Game Of Thrones song after the floppiness of her recent single which didn't grab me much, joining Grey Worm on top, and the theme tune going up a few places. Shame! (rings bell). Shame! (rings bell). Shame! (rings bell)....
