Good Evening and WELCOME to FINALE RESULTS SHOW of BJSC XLIII.

This must be the poorest final results show ever but the songs and entries has been of a VERY high quality, as you'll probably be served with a lot of surprises tonight! 48 countries voted, 1 didn't - but in the end there will be one winner....or not

The Warm welcome from the cold north-east country Ingermanlandia, we've been listening to your entries a lot in the past weeks and voting for our favourites. No less than 15 songs got into the final shortlist and 10 of them have made the cut. And here they are:

1 pt: Batidas - Ida - I Can Be
2 pts: PRoJ - Antoine Clamaran ft. Soraya - Feeling You
3 pts: Caerfyrddia - Susanne Sundfør - White Foxes
4 pts: Hendinia - Electric Lady Lab - Taking Off
5 pts: Tinnmark - Bertine Zetlitz; SamSaya - Electric Feet

Now let's get into the top-5 which lead over the rest was quite significant but the gaps within it were so small that the Semi Final 2 winner only got fifth place in the end, making the way for three other SF2 finalists and one more SF1 finalist.

So, our 6 points go to...

Allecian - Bright Light Bright Light - Waiting For The Feeling,

our winner of Semi Final 2. Really good house-ish track with catchy hook.

7 points go to...

Zechonia - Lindsey Stirling - Crystalize

This is the only SF1 song in the top-5. We enjoyed this instrumental so much, brilliant combination of strings, electro beats and dubsteppy inserts.

Our 8 points go to...

Ashton - Nause - Mellow

Another electronic instrumental but a more "current" one: we enjoyed the structure, the melody, the beat and the brilliant video.

The 10-pointer is...

Utopia - Grimes - Genesis

Since the semi final it has grown on us pretty much, the song is very enjoyable to listen to while going somewhere, it definitely stands out, hence the rise from 5 points in the semis to 10 points in the final.

And finally, 12 points go to...

Eledan - iamamiwhoami - play

It came third in our semi votes but likewise with Grimes the song has grown on us massively, and we were even listening to it on repeat, so well done to our neighbour!

2 points go to PRoJ! Another great dance-pop track that is sure to be a summer hit in many countries across the Buzzjack world! Antoine Clamaran and Soraya's song 'Feeling You' has a chorus that gets stuck into your head immediately!

3 points go to FSR RONTVIA! 'Don't Go' by Rae Morris is a beautiful piano ballad whose quirky voice set her apart from many other tracks in the contest. There is a lovely vulnerability in her voice as she presents her song.

4 points go to CHRISELAND! Sisse Marie's song 'Kill For Your Love' is a modern dance-pop track that is very popular with the Ramrynia public and it's very contemporary feel made it feel very fresh and something new. Plus, Sisse's voice is very unique and has drawn comparisons to the breathy vocals of singers such as Britney Spears!

5 points go to the KLUMINICAN REPUBLIC! Another great dance-pop song with great production and a brilliant hook! 'Happiness' by DJ Andi and Stella is sure to be in clubs across the BuzzJack world this summer!

6 points go to YUXHAAQ! 'Boys Will Be Boys' by Paulina Rubio has an amazing chorus that just adds to this brilliant dance track! One of tonight's favourites, it is no surprise that many people think this song is a potential winner of tonight's final!

7 points go to SCHERZLAND! Ryan Tedder teams up with Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso on the track 'Calling (Lose My Mind)' on a dancefloor stomper which immediately stood out from the majority of the other entries in the contest! We really hope this can do well in the final results!

8 points go to SÉYETANA! Once again, Séyetana have entered a brilliant track with a pop-rock feel and a chorus that is instantly memorable! 'Where Is My Happy Ending?' by Shell Perris is our 3rd favourite track in tonight's final and Ramrynia wish the track the best of luck for the results tonight!

10 points go to HENDINIA! 'Taking Off' by Electric Lady Lab is Ramrynia televoters' and jury's 2nd favourite track in the final. It has a brilliant summer feel and is an amazing feel-good track! Definitely a big top 5 contender tonight we think!

Finally...

12 points go to SYNDARE! Laura Welsh and her song 'Ghosts' immediately stood out from the first listen and continued to get even better with every further listen! Laura's fragile yet powerful vocals give the song a haunting and mysterious feel and it is basically incredible! This song is just so powerful and was by far our favourite song of the contest!

Our commiserations go to the rest of the countries in tonight's final as the quality was very high and we wanted to award points to a lot more songs too! Unfortunately, just missing out on our top 10 were Bignia-Zaragovina, Allecian, Fljotavik and Numayania and there were plenty of others that were very close too.

And now the exciting part where I give some countries some points.

With 01 point is Emma Lewin of Sheelah with solo single 'No Excuses'. I've never heard any songs from Sheelah but this song is great and is in the direction of Ryan's previous entry "Call Me Maybe" which I like.

With 02 points is Morgan Page with Bodywork featuring Tegan & Sara. This is the first time I have given Kylienips points ever so well done Mikey. I prefer Morgan's previous single 'In The Air' but I like this too.

With 03 points is Antoine Clamaran feat. Soraya with Feeling You. A nice eurodance track, which stands out from some of the other dance-pop songs in the competition (some of which just missed out on points)

With 04 points is Lindsey Stirling with Crystalize. The first time I've voted for Zechonia ever, this is a very original song with great dubstep influences.

With 05 points is another country I've voted for for the first time. Orbital's 'New France' is a nice dance meets indie track.

With 06 points is DJ Andi & Stella with Happiness. It's not the first time I've voted for Kluminican Republic - as they normally bring out good eurodance songs, I was disapointing with their last entry 'Hits Me Like a Rock' but this is much better.

With 07 points is Scherzland who are no strangers to my points, having scored with me in the last two contests as well as this one. I do prefer the original instrumental version of Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso's 'Calling' but this vocal mix is great as well.

With 08 points is 'Waiting For The Feeling' from Bright Light Bright Light. A great nu-disco dance track, I love that beat and the vocals go very well with it.

With 10 points is Nause with Mellow. Ashton scored points with me last time but not as much as ten. I really do LOVE a great instrumental house track, and normally this would've been my 12 pointer.

With 12 points is iamamiwhoami with play. The first time that Eledan has scored points from me. I wasn't expecting to like this but I really do. Lovely vocals and a laidback beat make the song as great as it is! It is currently outside the top 10 on my personal chart. I gave 12 points to the winner last time so hopefully my 12 points can help this to do the same and WIN

Good evening Botanikka! Here follows the Séyetan votes. Incredibly tough contest, pains me to give those towards the bottom so few points but here we go.
I limit myself to 5 commisserations each contest, even though I’d like to do more, so let’s get those over with: First, Eledan, which I thought I was giving points to until the last moment or so . Numayania, I must admit I feel a little bad that your last 3 entries have all been excellent, and yet all in my commisserations range, Hendinia, so close to gaining points again, Rob. Ramrynia, I love No Excuses, it’s nothing like Sheelah, but it’s still a great song, and Espen, a fine song that I would have loved to fit in my votes.

1 point - Tinnmark -Bertine Zetlitz ft. Samsaya - Electric Feet - an excellent pop song continuing Tinnmark’s run of form recently.
2 points - Yuxhaaq - Paulina Rubio - Boys Will Be Boys - a very welcome return for Yuxhaaq and a stunning pop song.
3 points - Syndare - Laura Welsh - Ghosts - a late addition to my votes but one that’s very deserved with it’s hauntingness and sophistication.
4 points - Zechonia - Lindsey Stirling - Crystallise - a lovely instrumental, one I was very pleased to see qualify, hope it gets good support from elsewhere too.
5 points - Fljótavík - Vanbot - Lost Without You - Vanbot is wonderful, this is almost as good as Make Me, Break Me, which is no small praise, so points well earned.
6 points - Botanikka - Stefanie Heinzmann - Diggin’ In The Dirt - second time in a row I’ve given the host points after not doing the same to their winning track, the version you entered was SO much better than the version I found and turned my opinion on this round completely.
7 points - Isconia - Regina Spektor - All The Rowboats - a song that grew on me loads after being entered to BJSC, such power behind Regina’s wonderful voice.
8 points - FSR Rontvia - Rae Morris - Don’t Go - a beautiful piano ballad that grew wonderfully on me, so much emotion in this one, simply beautiful, in contrast to Regina Spektor, power there, in another way.
10 points - Kluminican Republic - DJ Andi ft. Stella - Happiness - a song that is SO me, (from the book of Alexis, chapter 1, verse 7: A song is made infinitely better with the title of Happiness) in every way, I love this dance track so much (and not because of that reason), easily the standout from the qualifiers of the second semi.
Which means our 12 points go to:

Hello, Hendinia calling! Fingers crossed that Electric Lady Lab can break our run of Bottom 5s, and take us back to the Top 10! Unlucky to Botanikka and Numayania who received the same rating as 3-1, but just missed out! Here are the points from the Hendinia;

01pts go to ... ASHTON! ... an instrumental which once graced the shortlists for Hendinia, but was dropped, very good track though!

02pts go to ... RAMRYNIA! ... after how much Sheelah impressed Hendinian crowds, this was slightly disappointing, but still poptastic enough for a two!

03pts go to ... PR OF JESTER! ... a very easy listening dance track, which I had a feeling would be to my tastes from the artists!

04pts go to ... SYNDARE! ... songs like this are either really boring, or really good - this apparently being very much towards the latter, beautiful!

05pts go to ... ALLECIAN! ... was a good fun pop track amongst a sea of dull from Semi 2, a bit of a relief to be completely honest!

06pts go to ... BIGNIA-ZARAGOVINA! ... receiving more points in the final than it did in the semi, big grower, but a very effortlessly sexy pop track!

07pts go to ... GREENFROZE! ... another song getting more points in the final than in the semi! Very gorgeous tender electro track!

NOW FOR THE BIG POINTS...

08pts go to ... FSR RONTVIA! ... a really beautiful ballad, made better than Syndare's through the fact it had a memorable hook amongst it, whilst remaining as this 'beautiful' track, the woman having a really good voice!

10pts go to ... SCHERZLAND! ... the 12 pointer in semis, but just budged out here. Truly euphoric song which hopefully does better than predictions, that instrumental bit is just insanely good and ravey!

12pts go to ... YUXHAAQ! ... no surprise here really? The most fun and pure pop track in the final, I was bound to love it! Obsessed with this, and should make my personal Top 5, cheers for a great discovery!

Yeah, it's definitely most votes in the final and most 12s in the semi. The logic being that in the final the more overall popular track is more deserving, but in the semis it's better to have popularity which is likely to be sustained in the final.

GODDAMMIT VULKER! 4poitns would have put me into my traditional finishing place from days gone by of 9th.

I honestly thought I scraped through SF2 by the skin of my teeth! Coming second is fantastic news! I also gained 17points (once you remove Letland) which is great. Very shocked by that. So that's 3 top3 Semi finishes in a row which is outstanding for Ashton. Two years ago we couldn't even qualify!

Not really. We gained points. So what we lost by introducing the other semi qualifiers was more than replaced with what we gained from the other semi. So thats good. It's not realistic to expect to carry over most of your semi points as you have different competitors that may appeal more to the people in your semi. Some of the stuff I beat in the semi appealed more to the other semi but shit happens and I'm thrilled to have done so well.

If you want to see losing support you have to see the epic fall from grace that was BJSC XV. Ashton came 3rd in the semi and 23rd in the final. Oops.

I have no guilt, play was my 2nd favourite song by a distance, you were never in contention for the 12. I'd have felt guilty if Tom hadn't won on countback seeing as I deliberated over my 1 point for an age and he didn't get it in the end! And that's only because I felt like Ida was a slightly more inspired entry, taking into account Dragonette's fleeting UK success last year (although admittedly 99% of Joe Public still probably couldn't tell them from Adam

Oh god at me coming 14th in the semi, at least it way exceeded expectations in the final by finishing in the same place but that was the second time I've narrowly avoided a DNQ like a bullet in as many months, need to find a proper smash again some time soon! I think Pavel was referring to the general block of Kopecka/Numayania/Ashton/FSR Rontvia in that we don't always swap big points but there is a lot of points being exchanged between the four of us very regularly because we are so musically aligned for most of the time. You and Tyron were bracketed because me and Rich are the main kinda force in that block.

Ohh, poor Pavel!! Dragonette song was one of the first songs which I deleted from my player, while I gave 'Play' 12 points - nuff said!! Sorry, Tom.

Woo at me being at #12!! Over 100 points too, I'm really glad many of you liked 'New France'. Very good debut for me. And I was quite underpredicted: one of the worst odds and many "bottom 7" predictions.

But the main dark horse of the final is definitely Zechonia. People REALLY didn't think it could come first, and they were right - but I don't think most of them thought it would even challenge that top spot! I don't complain, as it's a brilliant song, reminds of 2010's Vanessa Mae (but that's with a context, as I listened to other Lindsey's songs).

I know this is late, but I keep going back to listen to it and I keep thinking, how did Don't Go come so close to not qualifying?

Seems like the sort of ballad that this contest would love, like Ghosts - very glad it did, or I'd never have found it!

I think Don't Go was perhaps too much of a grower/slow burner (even though it was instant for me)? I'm not sure, it's a shame that more people didn't take to it but those that did seemed to give it high points for the most part so it seems like a clutch of people 'got it' in the way that I did. Perhaps a UK push would help people to love it/give it room to grow a la Gotye?

Piano ballads never have been and probably never will be popular in BJSC (Adele aside but then Someone Like You HAS gone on to become a modern classic!) Still, there's a very large part of me that believes that Rae Morris is a star of the future and hopefully Don't Go will pick up more fans after the contest.

This will mean nothing if you don't watch Skins, but this is where I first heard it;

Maybe it's just because of the emotion of the scene that it felt so affecting but I knew there and then that I had to send it to BJSC, because I knew that whilst it wouldn't smash, a few people would make a great discovery out of it, and that's the point of the contest. The version above has more strings/percussion but doesn't seem to be available anywhere, it's the version I'd have definitely sent had it been around anywhere...

'Don't Go' is a grower indeed. I was given a sneak preview ( ) of the song, liked it but on first listen was slightly put off Rae's vocals "I keep on hoping they will FIIIIGGHHHT" and "we'll breakdown INSIIIIIDDDDEE", but the more I listened to the track, the more I liked it. In comparison, Laura Welsh's vocals were more silky smooth and appealled to me more.

Don't Go is a grower indeed. I think that's the problem with Running Away too - it's a lovely song, but on the first listen I never took much notice of it. It took a good few listens for me to really love it as much as I do now.

Hopefully my new entry is more instant, though.

Well, I only listened to the song once before voting, and everything about it felt so gorgeous (that's without me even watching Skins). There's some note she hits when she says 'don't feel like you have to', as simple as it is, which really feels so tender and touching.

It is the comparison to 'Someone Like You' that rung in my head, another very raw, touching, and when need be, powerful ballad. Hence why I thought this would do better (but 14th in the final is good, it's more the semis I'm talking about). I actually can see it getting a UK push actually, and I reckon it would do really well.

Don't Go was a grower for me too, I usually love the female piano ballads so I was a bit disappointed initially that I didn't love it, but eventually it was easily among my favourites of the contest!

I need to start sending more inoffensive vocalists to BJSC I think

Mira Craig, Gossling, Rae Morris, Hafdis Huld and a few other entries of mine over the years have come under fire for their vocal style (and notice how none of them made the top ten!) but I love all of them, sometimes a really unique vocal delievery lifts a song above the rest of the pack for me. I can appreciate why they wouldn't appeal to some though!

Not really, it's nice and all but the thing about Some Die Young is how the music builds around the lyrics, which this doesn't do quite so much. I do like the last verse though, which was about where I understood that it was "we retired" not "when we were tired"

It didn't peak very high in my personal chart but it's a song I always return to, it gets under your skin as it's quite lyrically thoughtful.

It won for Sweden in ChC Eurovision iirc, I can't remember who was behind submitting the Swedish entry that year though, I always thought you'd entered it?

Oh yes, I always get them mixed up. Nope, it wasn't me, it was one of dmlaw or Doctor Blind wasn't it?

I sent Jungle Drum by Emiliana Torrini for Iceland which came 2nd. It did so well that it inspired me to send it to BJSC the following month where it came 6th!

As an aside, that would be a great idea for a future BJSC spin-off, 'BJSC Eurovision' whereby everyone that wishes to participate is randomly assigned a different country to send a song from. I remember it being quite fun the two times we did it on CHC, I got Malta the year before and it took me AGES to find a decent song to use Luckily Iceland has lots of great music.

Whoever was lucky enough to get them would be at an advantage but not everyone would be able to pick a track worthy of winning. Certainly BJSC doesn't have a Swedish winner every month and I don't think we've EVER had a contest to date with no Swedes!

That's a good idea actually, I wouldn't mind hosting it again either as it was a lot of fun as you say! Maybe when we have a bit more spare time as we're running a little behind schedule at the moment! Yes, you did very well to find Chasing Pandora and I have to thank you for sending them as I loved a lot of the songs they released afterwards!

I got Latvia the first year, that was a challenge to find something decent! I think I settled on a dreary indie-rock song in the end!

Like Hits I also got a sneak peak of the FSR Rontvian entrant (Rich also got a sneak peak at Nause/Emma before I posted them in my thread) and for me it was instant.

I do absolutely ADORE a ballad done properly and a very simple piano ballad with a beautiful vocal is properly done in my books. Literally the only reason it didn't walk away with my 12 in SF and Final like it should have was Dragonette being in the Final. The two of them were lightyears ahead of my 8 which in turn was miles ahead of my 4th place+ tracks.

The BJSC Eurovision Spin-off would be a great idea! It's finding time in the schedule for us to do it that's the problem. There is always the 5th brithday celebrations though, and we did start off in the ESC forum (for like a day before we got our own sub-forum) so that could be a nice way to pay homage to that.

Liar And The Lighter should have done so much better than it did, but I was thrilled to be back in the top 20 for the first time in like 7 contests. It's not a big an injustice as I Like That failing to make the top30 was.

It was all good in the end because the month after Aplin I won

Kristiina Brask through to Gabrielle Aplin was a big turning point for Ashton and the quality of the songs we were sending.

True, that was a real WTF moment, it's still one of the best dance songs of recent years.

It was certainly an impressive return to form after that shocking start to 2010 you suffered results wise

It's one of my all time favourite songs and easily one of the best dance tracks I've ever heard. She's not come out with anything that could touch it since which is a shame. The P Diddy Mix really is life itself.
