I wouldn't rule out Gillingham to be honest, we nearly came close to the play-offs, just lost our way towards the last few games.

Posted by: Dobbo 26th June 2016, 12:24 PM

Not sure what gives United the rights to be favorite yet again. They've choked the last 4 seasons and lost me some money this year too!

Only 1pt picked up from two games for Sheffield United.

Yay!!! Gillingham on top that will do me

Posted by: Steve201 14th August 2016, 09:28 PM

The Gills started well last year too - interesting to see if they can keep it up!

Posted by: OutstandingMixer 17th August 2016, 10:10 PM

Good to see Rovers lose to a team we dicked 6-0 last season biggrin.gif

I see Sheffield United are living up to their "favourites tag" as usual rolleyes.gif

So far so good for my ante-post tip, Bolton Wanderers.

Posted by: Mack 29th September 2016, 12:12 PM

Tony Mowbray has resigned as Coventry manager.

Posted by: Flatcap 30th September 2016, 11:57 AM

Coventry are one of the teams I have decided to follow this season. Bit surprised he decided to resign, most of the managers wait to be pushed.

Posted by: Mack 4th October 2016, 07:56 AM

They should have left the EFL Trophy alone with B-teams of the Premier League & Championship being allowed to complete.

Micky Mellon has left Shrewsbury Town to join Tranmere Rovers.

Did anyone see the plastic pig protest that Charlton and Coventry did in their match on Saturday?

Posted by: Flatcap 21st October 2016, 04:34 PM

I saw media coverage of that incident. Knew about the Charlton unrest, the Coventry one must have occurred fairly recently. I don't always catch the stories.

More news from this division, sadly related to administration as opposed to actual football. Bury are facing another winding up petition from HMRC according to this article here.

And one of the reasons why I love football is when an upset occurs like this.

Karl Robinson has left his position as MK Dons manager after six years in charge.

Tim Sherwood has been appointed as Director of football at Swindon Town.

This is not a demotion for Luke Williams according to the club.

MK Dons v AFC Wimbledon tomorrow. Should be an interesting match.

Fun indeed!

Gillingham have named Ady Pennock as their new head coach after sacking Justin Edinburgh on Tuesday.

Coventry City fans have been asked to stop whistling protests in games after players were apparently distracted by a whistle from the crowd which triggered Bolton's late goal.

Posted by: Flatcap 8th January 2017, 07:03 PM

I found it confusing when I watched Coventry that time.

Another manager gone, Danny Wilson and assistant sacked at Chesterfield.

First time tomorrow night that AFC Wimbledon will play MK Dons at their home ground. It's hope that game is remembered for the right reasons.

And it was with AFC Wimbledon beating Franchise Club 2-0. That's great to see.

Posted by: Steve201 15th March 2017, 09:05 PM

No trouble!?

Disappointing Fleetwood lost at home to Bolton on Saturday - would love another 'small club' in the championship to join Burton!

Rovers losing 1-0 on their big day out biggrin.gif

Can't be too far now from Sheffield United getting promoted back to the Championship.

Posted by: Steve201 29th March 2017, 09:34 PM

Haha 7 years is a long time in the third tier for a big club from Sheffield!

Posted by: Mack 30th March 2017, 07:38 AM

I don't think Sheffield United and big club match for me.

Even though most of their honours were achieved before the Second World War, Sheffield United are still a fairly big club I would say, especially for League One. Their average attendance this season so far is 20,701 (21k+ by the end no doubt). That's very impressive for the third tier. Obviously they're doing well, but they've had to put up with a lot of shite for a long time now.

Posted by: Mack 30th March 2017, 12:27 PM

Attendance yes I would they are still big. But not on performance over the last few years in the league discounting their FA Cup runs.

Obviously based on performances/results in the last few years and languishing in League One, they're not. But I'm not sure you can base a clubs size on the last 7 years of underachievement. Sheffield United are clearly bigger than the likes of Bournemouth and Swansea, but currently they're below both in the football pyramid.

Posted by: John Rose 30th March 2017, 04:23 PM

Fun indeed! xd

Posted by: Mack 30th March 2017, 06:56 PM

I agree they are definitely bigger than Bournemouth and Swansea for sure.

Posted by: Steve201 30th March 2017, 10:27 PM

When I used the label big club I meant looking at things over the whole course of footballing history in England - in that way they are a big club in comparison to the division they're in. In the same way as Bournemouth are a small club in the premiership and Burton in the championship!

I hope so! Have money on Bolton to win League 1 (after several seasons in a row of betting on Sheffield United), absolute kick in the teeth if this is the season they win it.

Posted by: Steve201 30th March 2017, 10:28 PM

Hope Fleetwood sneak into the championship - spread the wealth!!

Though Rosler usually falls at the final hurdle - like with Brentford etc!

Posted by: Mack 31st March 2017, 07:50 AM

Really hoping Fleetwood can make the Championship. It will be an remarkable achievement.

That's true with a big club you would describe them as teams that have happened during the course of English football history. I think now yes I can't say teams aren't a big club just because they've had seven years of underachievement. Completely agree with what you say, Steve201 & OutstandingMixer.

Posted by: Steve201 9th April 2017, 02:02 PM

Sheffield United end their 6 year exile in the third tier by winning promotion to the Championship again and manager Chris Wilder doing what Neil Warnock last did 20 years ago winning back to back promotions with two different sides after leading Northampton to promotion in League 2 last year!

Posted by: Sakho 14th April 2017, 07:54 PM

The decline of Coventry continues.

Posted by: Flatcap 16th April 2017, 02:15 PM

Bolton lost, making Sheffield United champions.

Coventry are in the fourth tier for the first time in 58 years.

Posted by: Sakho 17th April 2017, 03:44 PM

Fleetwood could be just one point behind Bolton for the promotion space.

Posted by: OutstandingMixer 17th April 2017, 05:26 PM

Can Sheffield United stop winning please. I don't want them to beat our 99 points tally from 2015 laugh.gif

Posted by: Mack 19th April 2017, 12:20 PM

Still very much open for the second promotion spot between Bolton, Fleetwood, Scunthorpe and mathematically Bradford.

Posted by: Steve201 19th April 2017, 07:19 PM

Did Bolton draw last night?

Posted by: Flatcap 19th April 2017, 08:01 PM

Yes, they did. The result was 0-0 and the match report is here.

Only a point between 2&3rd now then

Posted by: Flatcap 23rd April 2017, 10:34 AM

Crucial game in hand for Port Vale this week against Walsall. If they win, it goes to the wire in terms of the last relegation place. Walsall were beaten by Coventry (already relegated) at the weekend.

Posted by: Mart!n 23rd April 2017, 02:26 PM

Gillingham are on the verge of sacking their manager, and they have already lost one at the beginning of this season, practically getting close to be regulated. This time last year we were so close to getting promoted, than in the last 5 to 6 games completely lost the plot.

Posted by: Mack 25th April 2017, 11:35 AM

Sheffield United look set to re-sign Ched Evans from Chesterfield.....

Posted by: Mack 4th May 2017, 11:49 AM

Who would you want to see get promoted the Championship via the play-offs:

Scunthorpe
Fleetwood
Bradford
Millwall

Posted by: Flatcap 4th May 2017, 07:59 PM

I would like Fleetwood to go up here.

Posted by: Steve201 7th May 2017, 09:03 PM

Same here, think they've peaked too soon tho!

Posted by: Mack 7th May 2017, 09:13 PM

Fleetwood may have missed their best chance to get into the Championship!

Hoping Bradford go up instead of Millwall.

Posted by: Mack 8th May 2017, 12:21 PM

It was I have to say an excellent second leg at Glandford Park. Credit to both teams.

Posted by: Steve201 9th May 2017, 11:23 PM

Yeh Bradford for me but didn't want either team!

Posted by: Flatcap 10th May 2017, 08:31 PM

Out of the remaining two, Bradford.

Posted by: Mack 21st May 2017, 01:49 PM

How the Millwall 'fans' got onto the pitch, I'll wonder. The first 'fans' to run onto the pitch at the new Wembley.

Posted by: OutstandingMixer 21st May 2017, 02:33 PM

I'm pleased that Millwall beat Bradford. It's a tasty fixture and there's enough northern shite in the Championship as it is laugh.gif
