In chronological order rather than order of public significant, I'd say these as far as the UK is concerned:
Baby One More Time Oops! I Did It Again I'm a Slave 4 U Toxic Everytime Gimme More Womanizer Work Bitch 'Scream & Shout' too but I assume we're just talking about Britney's own singles. It can be hard to be objective about these things but, putting my mind into the point of view of someone who has no interest in Britney, those are the songs I feel they'll be aware of and recognise as Britney songs. 'Baby', 'Oops' and 'Toxic' are unquestionable and would make up her Top 3 most iconic/significant; 'Slave' and 'Womanizer' were huge and are significant moments in her career; 'Gimme More' and 'Work Bitch' have big hooks and I've seen first hand how people of all music tastes and demographic recognise them. 'Everytime' is one I'm more unsure about - I don't know if I was letting my personal experience cloud my judgement, but I feel most people remember Britney drowning in a bath and many think that "every time" is one word because of the song. |

I deff went for worldwide rather than UK, but yes, I'd certainly add Everytime for the UK. Till The World Ends was huge but only huge in America so I'd swap those. I still think Sometimes is one of the most instantly recognizable in the UK though!

I'm unsure about 'Sometimes', perhaps being the follow-up to her debut meant there was a big buzz surrounding it and that's stuck with those that were old enough to remember it at the time, but I can't say it's ever popped up in my consciousness. Maybe that's just my personal experience, but I know I heard '(You Drive Me) Crazy' for instance a lot as a kid in the early 00s whereas 'Sometimes' was only one I was aware of by going through her videos on the internet.

I agree with what you've both said plus "Lucky" and maybe "Piece of Me".

I'd say Lucky over Stronger for sure. Much bigger hit worldwide and still well known today
I dont think WB would be in the top10 at all as far as general public goes. Its very much a Britney fandom thing This post has been edited by Euphorique: 26th October 2017, 01:07 PM |

I wouldn't agree about Work Bitch at all in the UK. It was kind of a blink and you miss it hit that came and went very quickly in the UK. In the Britney community it's iconic but I wouldn't say the general public would name that song.
1. "Hit me baby one more time" 2. Toxic 3. Oops I did it again 4. Slave for you or "the one when she went all slutty" / Womanizer 6. "That one she did with Madonna" I think that is what the general British public would say as in casual fans or non-fans . |

I think 'Gimme More' is definitely up there! Not only for the "It's Britney Bitch" line, but because whenever I talk to people at work about her, they seem to always sing the chorus back to me! (These are people who aren't really fans)

Scream and shout I would agree with actually but not gimme more. It’s definitely iconic just for the sake of it being the creation of “Its Britney, bitch”. 1. Baby One More Time 2. Oops... I Did It Again 3. Toxic 4. I’m A Slave 4 U 5. Womanizer 6. (You Drive Me) Crazy 7. Gimme More 8. Work Bitch 9. Lucky 10. Till The World Ends I’d say the top 6 are definitely WW classics tho |

Baby One More Time
Oops I Did It Again Toxic Are like her holy trinity and the most recognised across different ages, sexes, etc. She has other known tracks like I’d add Crazy and Sometimes to that and at a stretch Womaniser but the those 3 are her most iconic. |

It might seem like that on the surface, but it's trickle sold lots since then which indicates it seems to have become a well-remembered track over time. |
