Expect big sales at #1 for Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber's new track I Don't Care. New releases looking to reach the top 40 from James Arthur with Falling Like The Stars, Skepta with Greaze Mode / Bullet from a Gun and David Guetta featuring Raye on Stay (Don't Go Away)

On the album chart, can P!nk get a third week at #1? There's releases from Whitesnake with Flesh & Blood as well as Logic's Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Mac DeMarco's Here Comes The Cowboy, Ciara's Beauty Marks, plus a new EP from James Bay. Adele's albums are set to return following a recent C5 Documentary.

Yes - would think number 1 Sales will be in range 10k-15k
ie lowest Sales for a number 1 Album this year.
Wonder whether Billie can sneak another week at the top if P!nk's Sales drop off significantly.

Posted by: girl_from_oz May 13 2019, 01:50 PM

Yeah this was the quietest week for album releases for a while, sales should be up next week though

Posted by: Bré May 13 2019, 01:52 PM

Adele to return to #1!!1 (My best guess would be another return to #1 for Billie in all seriousness).

Posted by: Bjork May 13 2019, 02:10 PM

Madonna should have picked this week for her comeback album smile.gif

Awful album sales as I feared, although thankfully it seems the Top 2 will be able to clear 10k.

Last Howard Jones Studio Album to chart was in 1989 , a sign of the times that 30 years later he should chart again this week...

No sign of Ciara in the top 100 nocheer.gif

Posted by: danG May 13 2019, 05:12 PM

Looks like IDC should be able to pass 100k easily though that still isn't quite living up to most of our expectations (thankfully). I reckon it'll only last 3-4 weeks at #1.

Not that fussed on the new Skepta songs, and I suppose they're only doing so well because of the hype for his album - previous singles of his have fell well short of the top 40 (and some even top 100).

The new Da Beatfreakz track is as dull as I expected too, I haven't enjoyed anything of theirs so far. Really don't enjoy the James Arthur song either, rather annoying how he continues to rack up the hits. Hopefully it doesn't go a lot higher than its entry position anyhow.

Glad to see that Tough Love should end up at least going top 75 for Avicii and Stay top 50 for Guetta (I'd predict this to be a future top 20 too).

As for the new version of 'A Whole New World' that's set to go top 75... it's even worse than Katie Price & Peter Andre's version. mellow.gif

Reputations of both artists. Two big followings. They could've released anything this week and gone to number 1 at a canter - a cover of the RSPB track for instance tongue.gif

Posted by: ThePensmith May 13 2019, 05:48 PM

Wow at both Ed and that thing not having a six figure lead at #1 (as most of us anticipated despite it being painfully meh) and also Vampire Weekend holding up so well. I've only got their first album to be fair but the new songs of theirs I've heard are good.

Posted by: LMLou May 13 2019, 05:48 PM

Happy with either Billie or P!nk getting the #1 album before ball the new entries over the next couple months shove them down
Who’s more likely to end up at #1?

Posted by: danG May 13 2019, 05:53 PM

Pink should be able to remain #1 this week, she’s still outselling Billie on a daily basis

Posted by: pippa May 13 2019, 05:58 PM

Adele doing very well on the back of the channel 5 airing.
Wonderful to see Pink on track to achieve a 3rd week at Number 1 in the album chart.
Additionally happy to see Take That still in the Top 30 region.

Posted by: T Boy May 13 2019, 06:11 PM

I know sales are dire but it’s actually hilarious that Pink will probably achieve a third week at no.1 when many on here expected her to be a distant second in her first week.

Interesting to see the new track given Ed albums a big boost but zero boost for beibers

Also poor 19 always gets the least boosts for Adele it underated (by Adele standards laugh.gif )

Posted by: Steve201 May 13 2019, 10:16 PM

Great singles sales, awful album sales though!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever May 13 2019, 11:21 PM

Great to see pink holding on, I hope the album can keep her platinum streak going. The big guns, Adele and Ed Sheeran on the climb again which I'm happy with as I like both.

Posted by: timjimlee May 14 2019, 12:38 PM

Adele's 25 surely has a chance to make the Top 10 this week - it is #7 on iTunes and #2 in Amazon Best Sellers with a price of only £4.35 ( the lowest price I have seen for it ).
With Sales so low this week I would have thought it will make up the ground?

Posted by: Medellíam May 14 2019, 12:57 PM

21 doesn't seem likely to reach the Top 10 unless it starts selling more than it did on Sunday.

I don't know what's the worst about 'I Don't Care': the fact that it's an underwhelming (if slightly pleasant) track or that it actually took 6 people to write it. And 3 producers to make it.

I've started to really fall in love with 'Late Night Feelings', I can see that being a future top 20 at the rate it's going! biggrin.gif

Lykke Li finally making the Top 40! Never thought I’d see the day!

Posted by: Cremey May 15 2019, 08:43 PM

Lykke’s first top 40 😭😭😭

So glad it’s looking like it’ll be a hit, for a while it was looking like it might not be

Posted by: danG May 15 2019, 08:47 PM

Impressive for Mark to actually get a follow-up hit this era too, though it helps that NBLAH wasn't half as big as Uptown Funk.
The song's a grower.

Pink will probably do about 12k

Posted by: Brett-Butler May 15 2019, 09:11 PM

Now is perhaps the time to admit that until last year, I thought that Lykki Li's name was pronounced "Likely", rather than "lick a lea". The former just seemed to make more sense.

Posted by: pippa May 15 2019, 09:26 PM

Lykki Li's deserved to have some Top 40 credits well before now.
That said, it is good to see it is finally happening.

It's astonishing to think the 'I Follow Rivers' remix was never pushed here way back when, that easily could have done (and deserved to).

Lykke Li not even having a top 100 hit before this one is criminal tbh.

What an annoying week

Emma Bunton and Lucy Spraggan if released this week would have had top 10 albums....

Most of theirs were fan bundles and sales...so it wouldn't have mattered when they were released.

Any idea where Marina is? Hoping for a 3rd week....

Emma would be safely Top 10 this week based on the sales she achieved on her release week.

The top 5 albums are really getting very samey each week with the Greatest Showman and Queen hogging it. Its about time people stop buying them, I just wonder where Rocket Man is going to peak soon.

Posted by: pippa May 16 2019, 06:41 PM

Take That have remained extremely steady all week around the same position.

Posted by: Glenn 69 May 16 2019, 09:21 PM

Think I have seen Lewis Capaldi's album advertised as being out tomorrow. How many will he sell?

The Greatest Showman may soon vanish from the albums chart. Music Week reported a couple of weeks ago that there are ongoing discussions taking place about once again barring movie soundtracks from the main albums chart and returning them to the Compilations chart. If that happens it will be interesting to see what happens to the sales of TGS. Compilation albums don't attract streaming sales and a fair amount of sales of TGS are streaming sales. The Queen soundtrack album would probably remain in the main chart as it's a one artist album. The reason why it keeps performing well is that it is attracting a lot of streaming sales as the various versions of all the tracks (including the studio versions) are linked to this album.

I hope they stay in the main album charts personally. I’d be interested to see the link I’ll check that out.

Movie Soundtracks (especially A Star Is Born as in that case the whole albums by the same artists) to me are albums but stuff like NOW and Clubland belong in the compilations chart.

The article isn't online but I've posted part of the article below. The article was about Compilation Album sales, how they were falling fast and what could be done to stop the fast decline.

QUOTE
Streams generated from compilation albums are not attributed as sales to the parent album, but Now Music co-MD Peter Duckworth said that his brand alone powers “half a billion streams a year through Now playlists and products”. Duckworth said the Now app, which charges a £3.99-per-month subscription, is “starting to really take off”, although he declined to share subscriber numbers.

“In one sense [compilations]are thriving more than ever, because it’s the dominant form of consumption on streaming services, via playlists,” he said. “But the margins are under attack, because the margins from playlists in the current business model are zero. But that doesn’t mean to say the value of the brand is diminished; it holds up within the environment.”

Few in the sector expect the streaming chart situation to change but Music Week understands discussions are still on-going about returning movie soundtracks – such as The Greatest Showman – to the compilations chart, rather than artist albums. That would improve volumes and could help generate some buzz but, according to Bayley, “The only benefit would be if there is stronger marketing and a better PR profile for the compilations chart”.

I can't really see how that'll be helpful to the album chart, which is surely more important than the compilation chart?

Indeed. Albums in the Compilation chart are largely invisible. To me it would be a backward step to banish albums which quite clearly are a cohesive movie project with original songs by cast members back to a chart that no-one takes any notice of.

Posted by: Steve201 May 16 2019, 10:47 PM

In this day and age the Soundtracks are keeping the albums market a float near enough.

Exactly! These soundtracks have been holding up album sales better and been bringing more attention to the album chart than would have otherwise been. The one thing I can think of that might be a benefit for the industry is artists claiming the #1 spot when they otherwise may have had to settle for #2, but how many of these albums have actually been deserving of #1 anyway?

Posted by: Bjork May 17 2019, 10:37 AM

obviously, the occ get something right once they now gonna change it
getting cast albums to chart is fine, it's nothing comparable to Now102 or a soundtrack with random tracks

think they should focus on more important flaws, like the one mentioned above, you stream the studio version of Bohemian rhapsody, and it gives a streaming point to the soundtrack even if the song is not on it
