It's that time of the year again! (thanks King Rollo for the nudge ) Everyone who signs up will be assigned a team taking part in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup. You will then get points based on the team you are assigned, however if your team is knocked out, you will be assigned the team which beat your team. This means that everyone who enters will be able to accumulate points right up until the Final. Here's how the points system will work: - If your team wins, you will be awarded 5 points, plus the final goal difference of the match (excluding penalty shoot-outs) - If your team loses, you will be awarded the number of goals scored by your team as points - In the event of a replay, the losing team will recieve the sum of the goals scored in both games, plus one additional point. - A losing team will also recieve an extra point if the game goes to extra time, and two extra points if the game goes to penalties. - If one team wins by default (e.g. a walkover) the 'winning' team will be awarded 5 points and the 'losing' team nothing. - Every person taking part will have a 'swap card' which they can play once throughout the tournament. When a player plays the swap card, instead of recieving points for their allocated team, they will recieve the points of their team's opponents. Play your 'swap card' by replying in this thread before the round you'd like to play it! If you miss the deadline for the first round then you can still participate and I will allocate you a team participating in whichever round you join in, however obviously you won't have any points from the first round. Comment in here if you'd like to take part and I'll do the draw this Thursday. All the best! |

So in this format it's better to draw the first game then win or even lose the second rather than just winning the first. More time to rack up goals.

The number of goals itself is only counted when a team loses (points for a win is always 5 + goal difference) so the only time a draw is 'advantageous' is in anomalies like this where a team scores lots of goals over multiple matches but still loses - which is certainly quite an odd one to account for! I think this is the first time ever a losing team has gained more than five points |

I think this is the first time ever a losing team has gained more than five points When I saw myself that high up the leaderboard despite my team losing, my first thought was "is this an error?" Definitely been fortunate with the amount of goals in that draw and the replay too. If anyone had been given Sporting Bengal United they would be finding themselves top of the leaderboard so far despite losing in this round! They had a 4-4 draw with Stansfeld before their replay ended 1-1 and they lost on penalties, which I think would give them 8 points. |
