BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ The Corrs - Jupiter Calling

Posted by: ThePensmith 20th May 2017, 12:13 PM

The follow up to their gold selling comeback album "White Light" is currently being written and recorded. More from Jim http://www.musicradar.com/news/the-corrs-jim-corr-talks-signature-avalon-acoustic-gear-tragedies-and-t-bone-burnett:

QUOTE
Speaking of recording, Jim has just that morning returned home after recording for the next Corrs album at RAK Studios in London with none other than T Bone Burnett at the helm.

And with a producer of that calibre and reputation, Corr explains, time is limited - after all, this is the man behind everyone from Roy Orbison to Tony Bennett, and soundtracks for pretty much all of the Coen Brothers films.

“It was a very intense three weeks there, with one week of rehearsal, which is an approach we haven’t taken before. Normally we go into the studio and do overdub upon overdub. This time we decided to do essentially a live performance.

“We were separated in the studio and then T Bone recorded to tape, 24 track, to get that transience, frequency range and compression that is very difficult to get with digital. Obviously it was very challenging for us doing that entire album, bar a couple of overdubs, in two weeks.”

Sounds like, dare we say it, he is quite happy with the result? “Yeah! It’s been an education and we loved working with T Bone. We couldn’t be happier with the recording process. Obviously there are still a couple of vocal dubs to be done and there’s still a mix. The proof is in the pudding. But yeah, I’m very cautiously going to say I think it will be great.”

Corr seems relieved to be moving slightly away from the band’s comfort zone. Often accused of playing it safe (one Evening Standard reviewer memorably described the band’s last album as representing a “pathological rejection of any kind of edge”), the new album, out early next year, Corr hopes, will signal a new chapter.

“People will certainly recognise that it’s still us, but we have kind of moved subtly away from the pop. Yes there are songs on the album, but they are not particularly in the pop vein that they would have been in the past. This is a little bit of a departure for us.”

What’s next for the group? “Well, we’ll take a little bit of a break then I’ll perhaps go out to America, Nashville, with one of the girls, finish the mix. Next year will likely be a very busy year for us. But in the meantime, it’s back to downing our tools and looking after our children!”

Sounds like will be a return to their Forgiven Not Forgotten era style which I am all for (that album, incidentally, is out on vinyl for the first time on 2nd June!)

Who are they?

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 20th May 2017, 12:22 PM

I loved white light I thought it was a strong comeback from them so I'm glad we will be getting another studio album from them.

I don't know if I'd be angrier if this was a joke post or if it was real.

I am all for a new Corrs album.

Posted by: 360Jupiter 20th May 2017, 12:40 PM

Exciting! White Light had some really strong tracks (title track, I Do What I Like), but I figured that would be it for them, not that they'd be completely restarting their career with new album campaigns etc.

I would have been a little bewildered at first until I saw the year he was born.. 2000 tongue.gif

Looking forward to this though.

What's that?

I would just have assumed that anyone into music enough to be drawn to this site, particularly the chart forum, would have heard of the Corrs even if they hadn't ever heard their music. Their last album even went top 100 in the 2015 End of Year chart.

Posted by: gooddelta 20th May 2017, 01:34 PM

YES!

I didn't expect another new album either, certainly not so soon (well in Corrs terms it seems like a quick turnaround anyway).

Posted by: Jonjo 20th May 2017, 01:49 PM

LOOOOVE that they're recording a new album now that SM:TV Live has more or less been confirmed for next year laugh.gif

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 20th May 2017, 02:37 PM

Loved 'Bring on the Night' and 'I Do What I Like' from the last album - hope this can be as good!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 22nd May 2017, 03:07 AM

It would be great if the new album can sell at least as well as white light.

Posted by: Mullo 13th September 2017, 08:40 AM

I would like a 'Summer Sunshine' type pop banger somewhere amongst this lot please!

Posted by: lewistgreen 13th September 2017, 11:42 AM

Interested in this! I didn't hear much of White Light apart from the singles so will definitely have to check this out.

White Light was such a good album, I have high hopes for this, and love the artwork.

The prices for Royal Albert Hall look insane, and I saw them last year at the O2, but I'd love to go...hmm.

That's great news!
I still listen a lot to White Light.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 17th September 2017, 02:52 AM

I loved White Light, it was such a strong comeback and it also sold much much better than i thought it would.

I am looking forward to this and its one of the few cd's i know i will definitely be purchasing. I have to say, they have yet to release a bad album, some arent as good as others but every album they done has had some great tracks.

"Son of Solomon" preview

Posted by: pippa 20th September 2017, 09:28 PM

White Light was such a triumphant return from them. An album very strong. It sounded fresh but still kept the traditional Corrs sound to it. I look forward to the new album as i have high hopes for it.

In the words of the famous SMTV parody...'it's byootifull!'

It really is a haunting, stirring kind of song this, very 'Forgiven Not Forgotten' esque. Who knew Andrea could hit those low notes? Majorly excited for the album now!

Posted by: gooddelta 22nd September 2017, 02:14 PM

Gorgeous track, sort of sonically reminds me of Intimacy from Talk On Corners. It's not especially commercial and quite subtle for a lead single but it's really beautiful and the chorus is pretty anthemic in the sort of way that it felt familiar from the first listen.

Very excited for the album!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 23rd September 2017, 10:36 PM

It has a similar sound to what the done in the early years, this would fit in on Forgiven Not Forgotten.

I do like the song but its not the type of song that would be a hit for them but they know they are an album act only now and its a good song and its a very Irish song.

Posted by: StillJupiter 25th September 2017, 07:28 AM

Slower than I expected for a lead single/track! Nice though. Reserving judgement for the album but this is a positive preview.

Posted by: Good Old Days 29th September 2017, 08:12 PM

Good year for comebacks. Shania Twain, Corrs, Bucks Fizz.
Only lazy Geri Halliwell don't want to rejoice her fans with new album. laugh.gif

Posted by: gooddelta 1st October 2017, 05:59 PM

Another new track from the album, called SOS, is on Spotify and iTunes, it's rather pleasant with a lovely melodic chorus and a nice violin solo.

The album definitely sounds more organic than White Light based on the first two tracks, more in line with the Forgiven, Not Forgotten sound.

Edit: It's the lead single according to the official Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/thecorrsofficial/videos/10155065134011727/

It's more radio friendly than Son Of Solomon so makes sense.

Posted by: TheGhostPensmith 7th October 2017, 01:47 PM

SOS is Record of the Week at Radio 2 this coming week smile.gif

Finally got tickets for the Royal Albert Hall concert tomorrow, I just couldn't not go really. The original RAH gig screening is what got me (and nearly everyone else in the UK) properly into the band!

Intrigued and excited to hear the new tracks!

Posted by: gooddelta 19th October 2017, 10:23 PM

Great gig, they performed a handful from the new album, Road to Eden being my initial favourite, lovely track. Butter Flutter didn’t sound too amazing but maybe the studio version will be better!

They also added a couple of oldies back that weren’t performed on the White Light tour - namely Little Wing and - best of all - Summer Sunshine cheer.gif

Posted by: T Boy 10th November 2017, 07:52 PM

Almost finished my first listen. Really loving it, very classic Corrs, back to basics.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 12th November 2017, 05:40 PM

It's very in line with their debut album.i do like it but much prefer white light. I'd love the album to go top 10 or even top 15.

Posted by: gooddelta 13th November 2017, 05:01 PM

It's a very nice album, though I too prefer White Light.

This is the more acoustic/organic side to the band, as opposed to the big pop moments on White Light. There's a place for both but I do think the melodies were stronger on White Light on the whole.

The first half of Jupiter Calling is back to back brilliance, especially Road To Eden and Dear Life. I love everything from Son of Solomon through to (and including) Dear Life, then No Go Baby and Hit The Ground Running are pleasant. Am waiting for the final four tracks to click at the moment.

Such is the high quality of their studio albums that I can see this being my least favourite of theirs, even though it's a 9/10 collection! All of the others are in my all time top 40 albums though, including White Light and In Blue. Forgiven Not Forgotten, Talk On Corners and Borrowed Heaven are in a class of their own.

Posted by: pippa 13th November 2017, 08:30 PM

It is a solid offering from them but its not as strong as previous albums. White Light was a fantastic comeback album and this slightly disappoints. Yet its still a good album.

The album is opening its chart week at number 10 in the mid week chart.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 30th December 2017, 06:43 PM

Ive had a chance to give the album a few listens over Christmas. Its a good album but not their best for me. Their is no standout songs that would scream single on the album, not that this would make much difference as the chances of them having a hit single is slim to nothing.

The album is enjoyable although slow placed in parts which made hit the ground running a bit of a surprise as thats the first song that feels uptempo. I think when doing this album they returned to their roots of the first album as that original sound is there.

Its an album im glad i bought as i like it, but White Light was much stronger.

Random but lovely news today: Andrea has signed a book deal for her memoir "Barefoot Pilgrimage", due for publication via HarperCollins in October: https://www.thebookseller.com/news/andrea-corr-s-memoir-goes-harpercollins-1007161

Posted by: Monzo 16th May 2019, 11:22 AM

I didn't like this album very much when it came out, because my expections were pretty high. I listened to it again recently and I have to say it ages well. Most songs are beautiful, but it's sad they didn't have a killer track on it to release as lead single.

Posted by: ThePensmith 11th September 2019, 06:11 PM

Andrea's autobiography 'Barefoot Pilgrimage' is out 17th October. Here's the cover:

Will look forward to reading this actually. I imagine the story about their parents Jean and Gerry passing away will be quite moving to read, especially since two of the band's songs (namely 'Angel' and 'Gerry's Reel') are tributes to them.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 12th September 2019, 08:54 AM

I think it will be a good in depth and honest book.

Posted by: WinterFreeze 7th November 2019, 07:15 PM

Just listened to the audio book of Barefoot Pilgrimage, it’s fantastic. Highly recommend it.
