03rd. The Power of Good-Bye = 7 votes
Welcome to the Final round of Madonna's GHV2 survivor poll, and we are finally at the tail end of this competition, after months of voting and many, many Madonna classics falling by the wayside each week. However we are now down to the nitty gritty with our final 2 with 'Frozen' and 'Ray of Light'. Both of which feature on the 'ROL' album and have both pretty much sailed throughout this competition and now instead of voting for your least fave, Buzzjack voters will be voting for your fave, and whatever wins will be worthy of the crown. Finishing in 3rd place is 'The Power of Good-Bye', which again features on the same album as the final 2, just goes to show how loved and popular this album and its singles really are. Released in September 1998 as the 4th single from 'ROL'. It was written by Madonna and Rick Nowels, and was produced by the singer with William Orbit and Patrick Leonard. Lyrically, the track talks about how free and empowering saying good-bye or ending a relationship can feel. The melancholy electronica ballad features shuffle beats, acoustic guitars and sweeping strings arranged by Craig Armstrong. The song received critical acclaim and attained commercial success by reaching the top 10 of the charts in over nine countries, including Austria, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Spain and the United Kingdom, while in the United States it reached number 11, becoming Madonna's 37th top 20 hit and her seventh-highest debut at the time. I'm so glad that this song did so well on here and definitely stands as one of her greatest songs of not only the 90's but her entire career, and while it is structed like a typical ballad, it has enough electronic sheen to stand out amongst the pack with themes of empowerment that really gives the whole thing that extra lift. Rhythmic guitars, sweeping strings and a beautiful soaring melody that gives the whole thing a beautiful dream like quality, very relaxing and soothing, while being powerful at the same time. A true definite standout career moment. So now guys we are down to the FINAL 2 with 'Frozen' VS 'Ray of Light', and remember pick your Favourite between the 2 and the one with the most votes will be the almighty WINNER. Results so far: 3. The Power of Good-Bye = 7/43.75% 4. Don't Tell Me = 6/42.86% 5. Deeper and Deeper = 8/30.77% 5. Music = 8/30.77% 7. Drowned World/Substitute For Love = 7/53.85% 8. Secret = 6/40.00% 9. Beautiful Stranger = 5/33.33% 10. Take a Bow = 35 points 11. Erotica = 5/38.46% 12. Bedtime Story = 6/40.00% 13. Human Nature = 7/31.82% 14. What It Feels Like for a Girl = 6/24.00% 15. Don't Cry for me Argentina = 13/86.67% |
