BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Friday Chart Predictions

Posted by: SevenSeize 10th November 2019, 05:08 PM

Tones And I looks to make it seven weeks atop the singles chart. J Hus could score another top 10 with comeback single ‘Must Be’, plus debuts for Dave with ‘Paper Cuts’ and Fredo with ‘Netflix & Chill’. Other new releases include Young T & Bugsey, KSI, Bring Me The Horizon, CamelPhat/Jem Cooke and George Michael

The Script’s ‘Sunsets & Full Moons’ could give them a fifth #1 album out of six, or Michael Ball & Alfie Boe may claim a third with ‘Back Together’. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds release the physical versions of ‘Ghosteen’, plus new releases from Snow Patrol ‘Reworked’, Simply Red ‘Blue Eyed Soul’, FKA Twigs ‘Magdalene’, George Michael/Wham! ‘Last Christmas (OST)’ and Luke Combs ‘What You See Is What You Get’

Breakdown of the week
- Saturday: Some information may be posted on social media but it is likely to be missing most streaming data and is unrepresentative.
- Sunday: Official First Look Chart on Radio 1 from 6-7pm
- Monday: OCC Top 100 from 5:45pm

- Wednesday: Top 40 update from Music Week from 5:45, and potential top 5 sales but this is not guaranteed.
- Thursday: See Tuesday.

Other notes (please read)
- You may make requests Tuesday to Thursday but outside the top 40, specific positions will not be revealed (unless deemed necessary by a mod).
- Please do not demand a midweek update, one will be posted as and when we receive the information. Patience is a virtue.
- Sales information will be given out as deemed necessary by a moderator, please bear this in mind when making requests. Most requests for sales will be ignored.

why could they only be bothered to replace the intro with 'forget you' then leaving the rest of the song as '... you', it's a very awkward edit

Anyway, great to see J Hus on lock for a top 10 position. Hopefully Dave can keep it too but he'd have to remain stable on Spotify for the rest of the week which seems unlikely.
Was hoping to see Meduza closer to the top 10 but at least they're set to peak again. Now they're top 10 on Spotify they could easily get there officially next week anyhow.
Circles must be due for ACR soon which could help? Feels like it's been here a long while.

This is only its second week over the 9 week limit - although it has almost certainly peaked now and is in a natural descent anyway so I guess I wouldn't mind it going to ACR pretty soon. (Meanwhile it'll likely just be reaching #1 in the US this week because radio is so slow).

Dance Monkey still so strong, it's crazy, even on YT the figures are crazy, usually the #21 gets around 400-500k per day but
Dance Monkey is doing over a million... yesterday the song did 1.3 million

Somehow the Big Top 40 placed Dua Lipa number 1!
Despite every single metric having Dance Monkey miles ahead (except their own radio plays).

If I was #1 on the most listened to chart show on radio I'd support them too. tongue.gif Can't blame her for doing a bit of promo.
Would be nice if she could eventually get to #1 officially too but Dance Monkey really is showing no signs of slowing down, it could even be a strong Christmas number one contender at this rate.

it's great to see the singles chart having a bit more movement recently anyhow, this is the third consecutive week that we're set for 8 entries in the top 40 (7 in today's update but Darkoo at #41 should continue to climb, Tom Walker at #42 could also do it giving us 9).

Surprised Snow Patrol is outselling Ball and Boe, though they may be more consistent sellers through the week so may overtake

Posted by: pippa 11th November 2019, 07:30 PM

I am surprised Snow Patrol are as high, a Top 5 finish and i will be happy for Snow Patrol as i thought this album may struggle.
The Script have a 5th Number 1 album in the bag.
I had hopes of Niall Horan, Jax Jones and Ella Henderson in the Top 15 today but both showing signs of a new peak position.

Posted by: Bré 11th November 2019, 07:44 PM

Surprised that The Script are so comfortably ahead, I thought it'd be pretty close between them and Ball/Boe even if they did get the #1. Ball/Boe not even #2! (although I think they'll hold up better than Snow Patrol so might climb to #2 if it's close).

Oops at Dave already dropping out of the top 10! Might end up just being a low top 20 hit like '47' at this rate. Great to see Niall as high as #16, fingers crossed he'll stay in the top 20 #pippa. Cool to see Endor heading for the top 40 too (yet another unoriginal dance song becoming a hit but this one is one of the better ones) and Darkoo hopefully set to climb in by the end of the week too. Much higher quality bunch of new entries than last week. Also lower down I see Bring Me The Horizon at #72, hope they'll manage to hang onto a top 100 debut (since atm the only song from the Death Stranding soundtrack that's charted is the worst one (Major Lazer/Khalid) :') CHVRCHES' song should have been a 'hit' but I'll take BMTH getting one xx)

FKA twigs only #15 in the album chart is a bit disappointing, seems like it won't even outpeak her last album despite the great reviews this album has got.

Posted by: N-S 11th November 2019, 07:51 PM

I don't think I'll ever stop being crossed to see all those urban tracks storming easily in the chart based on basically just streams alone (and often artist's name), while the songs I'm more familiar with usually struggle to get a first week impact.

Posted by: wallpaperman 11th November 2019, 08:05 PM

No.39 in the album chart is of course Gene Clark (ex Byrds) and not Gene Kelly. laugh.gif

It is a truly stunning album, almost ignored back in the day when it came out.

It's only got one new song though hasn't it? I suspect it could climb as more people see the film, although reviews seem to be mixed at best.

Posted by: Bjork 11th November 2019, 09:46 PM

really surprised at how well Snow Patrol has started, was expecting a much lower entry considering it's quite a competitive week, was actually expecting Boe/Ball to be an easy #1 and Simply Red and the Last Xmas soundtrack both to be above Snow Patrol

I was about to say reviews for 'Last Christmas' have been pretty savage the whole way round.

Nice Irish top 2 albums although I can see snow patrol ending up number 3 or 4.

To be fair, he wasn't that prolific even when he was alive!

Of course the film hasn't opened in the UK yet so the effect of the reviews on the album remains to be seen.
I wonder if it's just the packaging that's confusing?

Surprised Snow Patrol is outselling Ball and Boe, though they may be more consistent sellers through the week so may overtake

I expected George Michael and Ball & Boe to be the top two this week with probably the latter at No.1.

Oh it should be big up to Christmas but the film isn't tipped to set box offices alight with a lot of competition to come with Star Wars, Jumanji etc.

Feels like 1999 all over again when Bwitched, The Corrs, Boyzone and Westlife somehow dominated the charts before the end of a decade

very consistent for the Script as their last album Freedom Child opened with 29.5 k

even more surprised at SP figures, would have never predicted sales >10k for Reworked

Mariah.... Will her sales still be chopped in half come Christmas week like happened last year?

Posted by: Bré 13th November 2019, 10:35 PM

Her streaming sales are cut in half indefinitely unless someone on her team specifically requests for an SCR reset (and the OCC grant one). Same with all songs which are over 3 years old.

Excuse my ignorance but I always wonder why more record companies don't request SCR, particularly for Christimas songs? It's obviously in their interest for the songs to chart higher. Or is it that the OCC don't dole out resets so readily?

Posted by: Steve201 14th November 2019, 12:25 AM

Not sure, would make sense for Mariah this year. Hard for the OCC to argue against and she'd be guaranteed no1 for 2-3 weeks!

Posted by: common sense 14th November 2019, 12:26 AM

Is she actively promoting it this year? I thought that the label could only reset if it was being promoted as a single (so good as hell has been sent to radio/tv etc as the next single getting it the SCR).

I know she has the walkers advert but that is hardly pushing this as a current single. Not heard if she has any other plans for it this year. Either way, it could probably still go #1 with its streaming points halved unless some big competition comes along. Wouldn’t mind another novelty song getting it. Only time of year they have any luck and Spotify isn’t always the safe indicator of what is #1.

Posted by: krissykins 14th November 2019, 08:19 AM

She has re-released her Christmas album, but I think the song is still the same.

Just thought OCC might see sense this year after the Sweet But Psycho fiasco where Mariah had the most sales and the most streams.

Posted by: Steve201 14th November 2019, 08:19 AM

I would say she is actively promoting it due to the 25th anniversary, the new release of the Xmas album, the advert and the cd/vinyl/cassette release.

Posted by: Bjork 14th November 2019, 09:24 AM

but even if she's promoting and releasing it as CD single, her label has to request it, it's not an automatic thing

Posted by: Dircadirca 14th November 2019, 09:30 AM

ACR is inherently a dumb idea, but I think it would be even more messy if 1 or 2 Christmas songs were let off of it. It might not affect the order if Mariah is destined to be ahead of the pack anyway, but how do you explain to the layman that one Christmas song has an insurmountable advantage over the rest. Next year marks 20 years since Kirsty MacColl died, so if they were allowed to decide they want the #1 spot for "Fairytale Of New York", SCR would do the trick even if it's only the 3rd-5th biggest in reality. You may as well put them all on SCR but obviously that'll never happen.

Posted by: Bjork 14th November 2019, 09:36 AM

but thats easy to explain, the track got re-promoted and that's why it's on normal ratio, it's not a random reset

Even that'll be a footnote in the grander scheme of its performance though. I'd sooner argue that it's re-promoted every single year anyway.

Posted by: Bjork 14th November 2019, 10:52 AM

not even sure what the occ considers as promotion
cos for instance Bohemian Rhapsody was kept at ACR despite the movie release
so the same could happen to Last Xmas this time... even if the movie is out

I see why the Lizzo singles were taken off ACR, as they were proper singles sent to radio and being playlisted

Posted by: Glenn 69 14th November 2019, 11:15 AM

Mariah was #78 yesterday according to Music Week

QUOTE
It was a joke, albeit one designed to promote Carey’s (by now traditional) festive tour and Merry Christmas deluxe edition. But all the evidence suggests that – as with the sale of mince pies and the arrival of editorial letters about festive streaming – Christmas music is becoming a thing much sooner than it ever used to. As I write, Mariah's All I Want For Christmas Is You is mid-weeking at No.78 and there are still 42 days until the big day. That's a long time for Ms Carey to "keep on waiting underneath the mistletoe".

I'm assuming the OCC will accept a reset request from a label as long as it is reasonable in the circumstances. If the label doesn't request a reset then it won't happen, the OCC wouldn't unilaterally decide to reset a track. As for what is reasonable, I assume it's if a label is actively promoting a 3+ year old track in the same way as the label would actively promote a new track. At the very least there would be a promotions team involved.

Yeh true and it's hard to know how much labels know about this especially non-U.K. artist label!
