I can imagine you reading the type of things which may highlight the issues of the day in working class Rochdale. Anything which proposes nationalisation of minor industries is an extremist to most establishmentarians which is why throughout the thread the centrists have been undermining him by not talking about Gaza but by slurs against him. Which is fine some things he’s said have been wrong and that’s politics. Steve - Galloway is a shitstain on British politics. You'd all be up in arms if Lawrence Fox got elected London Mayor for example. I don't like him not because of his stance on Gaza, but because he's a shitstain on British politics who does absolutely no good. But yeah, he will create some soundbites and that's fine. Ever been to Rochdale or Bradford? Won't be long before people see they've been hoodwinked by a fraud. |

It’s worth adding (again) that I don’t align with Galloway on a shitload of issues—in fact I’m directly opposed to him on several that I care deeply about.I do, however, have respect for the democratic process, but much more than that, I want to see the establishment’s power eroded, and there is a desperation in me to see that happen in this moment as they support genocide. Will Galloway achieve any progress in matters I disagree with him on, as an individual MP? No. But will he raise the profile of the current genocide in Gaza, in Westminster making it more difficult for MPs to ignore? Yes. And, as we drift further towards chaos and the duopoly’s control begins to slip, seeing them lose is a signal, to me at least, that people are desperate for alternatives. And while I doubt electoral politics can and will achieve the changes we need—I’m not into taking those kinds of chances. We need to try either way. This is a sign that well placed candidates campaigning on important issues can take some power back, to offer some credible alternatives at this year’s General Election. The Establishment can bleed—we’ve just seen its bloodied nose. Let’s use this to galvanise a movement for change. This post has been edited by Steve201: 3rd March 2024, 06:18 PM |
