As mentioned in the Green Room thread, it has been confirmed Australia will be returning to the contest in 2016 and will take part in the semi-finals following their 5th place with Guy Sebastian this year and their upcoming Junior Eurovision debut next weekend with Bella Paige. It has been officially announced here on Eurovision.tv although they say that Australia's permanent participation is still yet to be decided, although I doubt anyone will believe that!

The question will immediately turn to who will Australia send to Stockholm? SBS reportedly said that if they were to be granted participation rights once again in 2016, they would look to send a star even bigger than Guy. If they stick by that reported promise that doesn't leave too many options, in terms of realistic participants only Delta Goodrem would fit the bill - I doubt the biggest Australian stars such as Kylie or Iggy Azalea will go to Eurovision, although I guess Kylie may be up for it now her success isn't what it was a few years ago. But I think Delta is a realistic opportunity, especially after she wrote the Junior Eurovision entry for Bella!

Looking forward to seeing who they choose, especially as it won't be anywhere near as rushed as their 2015 selection! And Australia are probably the closest the UK are going to get to being able to support a high standard entry knowing our track record.

If it's Delta I might actually die of happiness. Then sell my mortal soul for tickets to that semi and the final

I really think Wings could have challenged Heroes for the win if they'd sent Delta a year earlier...

Obviously would love Delta, Kylie, Sheppard, The Veronicas etc...

Without trying to cause any raised hopes, I see Delta is playing the lead in Cats The Musical from November to January in Sydney, Hobart and Melbourne - but is unconfirmed to return for the final city, Perth, which happens in April and May. Could it be?!! (No but it's exciting to think there's a chance!)

If Delta Goodrem goes to Eurovision this forum will implode!

(And again when she's beaten by Denmark)

Odds are it'll be somebody signed to Sony Music Australia since they're suspected to be footing the bill for this. To my knowledge Delta, Jessica Mauboy and pretty much everyone connected to X Factor Australia like Dami Im and Samantha Jade are all signed to them so it's at least in the realms of possibility.

The official word is that SBS have yet to decide on the selection process for their 2016 entry, but I'm pretty convinced they'll go for a fairly high profile (at least) internal selection, unless all the big names are put off by having to go through a semi-final. Hopefully Guy's success will mean they don't fall into a UK-style mindset!

Well Delta had a big post on Instagram yesterday about JESC so given that she's been involved in that it's not beyond the realms of possibility to think she could do it.

She's been big over here before, she recently was back doing promo, it'd all fit with a full on push in Europe for her new album.

Ah fab, I saw she posted about Bella on Twitter yesterday too which is great news! You're right, it'd definitely fit perfectly in launching her new album as I assume that must be expected in the first half of next year.

At least if Australia are a permanent fixture Delta will hopefully turn up one day to represent them! (Please be sooner rather than later though!)

YES. It has to be Delta or one of their local acts who've never really broken out of Aus like Ricki-Lee or Jess Mauboy, both are more than competent to pull off a Eurovision performance! Delta would be AMAZING though.
