BuzzJack Music Forum _ Lady Gaga _ 'Million Reasons' ● 2nd single

Posted by: HausofTravis 6th October 2016, 05:16 AM

I know I'm probably just saying this because Perfect Illusion flopped everywhere but this would've made a better lead single instead of that. I don't think it's AMAZING but then I've never been huge on her ballads but I think it's nice and listenable but more than anything it's FRIENDLY and radio probably would've been a lot more accepting of it.

It's also very true to Gaga herself and could almost be a Stefani Germanotta penned track from 2007!

Posted by: Addy K!ng 6th October 2016, 05:26 AM

sounds a bit blah for me...too slow and just doesn't pick up on first listen.

Perfect Illusions remains unbothered wub.gif

A lot better than Perfect Illusion for me

Gaga with http://chords.tv/ sound !!!!

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 6th October 2016, 07:13 AM

I love it.

Posted by: skankhunt42 6th October 2016, 07:40 AM

It would've been a better first single like Foue Fuve Seconds but still not classic GaGa.

Posted by: Joe. 6th October 2016, 07:43 AM

I knew I wasn't going to get "classic Gaga", I doubt that's coming from this project at all. But I still expected something better than what sounds like a Nickleback B side. Her vocals sound great though, and much nicer than they do in Perfect Illusion.

I'm not sure what kind of audience this album is aimed at, but I guess Gaga is just doing her thing and what she loves so I respect her for that.

Posted by: J▲hq 6th October 2016, 07:45 AM

It's nice, not as good as "Dope" but miles better than something like "Speechless" for me.

Posted by: Cameron 6th October 2016, 07:49 AM

Absolutely loving her vocals on this and the song! So good music.gif

Posted by: liamk97 6th October 2016, 10:24 AM

I like it! Not sounding like a single but definitely a great album track ballad in the way 'Speechless' and 'Dope' were. It gives me a bit of hope for the album.

Me too

Posted by: Davidson 6th October 2016, 10:55 AM

Yeah it's a lot better than PI but that's hardly hard.

It is a nice little melodic song and it does seem true to her so congrats etc. but it's the kind of thing that doesn't really have any replay value for me. Don't feel like I'll get anything more out of it from repeated listens.

Posted by: twentyonemdh 6th October 2016, 12:21 PM

Brilliant.

Posted by: Regina 6th October 2016, 04:11 PM

This is gorgeous and she sounds better on this than almost all her other ballads. So stripped back and raw wub.gif

Posted by: mr_pmt 6th October 2016, 08:06 PM

I'm pleasantly surprised by her vocals on this, in that she's not shouting.

Posted by: dandy* 6th October 2016, 08:53 PM

Oh this is an improvement on Perfect Illusion. It's a bit of a standard song but I do like the way she delivers it.

Agreed with this comment. Lovely song <3 Perfect as an instant grat, but I can definitely see why they attempted 'Perfect Illusion' over this as the first single! Although, I guess this might've done more for her coming off the whole "Gaga is normal and really good" schtick she had going for her earlier on in the year!

Posted by: Cucumberella 6th October 2016, 10:42 PM

agreeing with dandy* that the song is what it is, an okay sounding song but her delivery on this is great!

Posted by: slowdown73 7th October 2016, 10:57 PM

I really like this. It's quite credible and better than perfect illulison.

Posted by: Mackenzie 8th October 2016, 12:10 AM

I must be the only person who prefers Perfect Illusion as beautiful as this is, give me that chaos gaga I love.

Posted by: liamk97 11th October 2016, 03:45 PM

This song is really starting to tug on my heartstrings. I actually think it could work as a single, especially the way it seems to be holding up on iTunes, or at least another song from the album of a similar vein. Regardless, I need a live performance of this!

Posted by: dandy* 11th October 2016, 07:56 PM

If radio took to it then I agree it could work as a single, it's simple and I think that would be refreshing from her.

Posted by: liamk97 11th October 2016, 08:20 PM

Definitely! It does feel like she's become less "showy" this era so some simple ballads that are elevated by her voice would complement that well whilst still being special enough to be recognisable as Gaga and different to any other radio-friendly ballad.

Posted by: Jonjo 11th October 2016, 08:35 PM

Here's that performance you wanted, Liam tongue.gif

https://www.facebook.com/10376464573/videos/10153935796915095/

This song is SO beautiful. I'm pleased to see this is holding up for her! ohmy.gif

Posted by: liamk97 11th October 2016, 08:49 PM

Thank you! It really is a song she can put her all into whilst maintaining its melody and gentleness.

Posted by: Oricon 11th October 2016, 08:52 PM

Isn't the reason it's holding up is because Million Reasons is an instant grat for Joanne? unsure.gif

Posted by: liamk97 11th October 2016, 08:59 PM

Instant grats now only appear on the iTunes chart solely for actual purchases of the song rather than album pre-orders affecting its position. That feels like a really badly written sentence but hopefully you'll get the gist of what I'm saying! tongue.gif

Posted by: Oricon 11th October 2016, 09:21 PM

Yes it does, thanks!!

I'm surprised it's holding on slightly better than Perfect Illusion even with minimal airplay too! It could work as a single later on perhaps (but please give me a pop jam Gaga I'm so thirsty for it)

Posted by: skankhunt42 11th October 2016, 09:28 PM

Have you heard Ayo? It is a JAM!!

Posted by: Oricon 11th October 2016, 09:31 PM

No Michael! I've been trying to hold out on listening to any leaks and gig performances so I get the full experience whenever the album releases!

Posted by: skankhunt42 11th October 2016, 09:34 PM

Ayo is another Fypsy.

She released Perfect Flop when she has a Gypsy quality song right there.

Tshh tshh.

Posted by: Tyler 12th October 2016, 03:25 AM

This is no where as good as 'Gypsy'. PI >>>>

This is nice. And pretty forgetful at the same time. It's a 7/10 on a good day.

Posted by: skankhunt42 12th October 2016, 09:40 AM

No, Ayo, not this.

Posted by: Tyler 12th October 2016, 02:53 PM

Still need to hear that. I was questioning your sanity last night! Lmfao.

Posted by: Tyler 12th October 2016, 02:54 PM

(So nothing's changed basically)

Posted by: gooddelta 23rd October 2016, 09:52 PM

I wish this was the second single, it's a really understated beauty and I feel as though Heart FM and the like would get back on board with her with a song like this.

Probably the best Gaga song I've heard since Do What U Want.

Posted by: mr_pmt 23rd October 2016, 10:57 PM

I do think this would be the best option for second single. Is 'A-Yo' absolutely conclusively confirmed as the second single?

Posted by: Liаm 24th October 2016, 01:10 AM

This is starting to run away from the rest of the album for me, especially with the SNL performance wub.gif I can't believe I wasn't feeling this at first, it's so simply beautiful and I defintiely think it's the best choice for next single. A-Yo would just flop entirely and I know that nothing really has a chance to smash or anything but as has been said this would at least stand a chance at attaining a fair bit of airplay.

Posted by: HausofTravis 24th October 2016, 07:17 AM

QUOTE(mr_pmt @ Oct 23 2016, 11:57 PM) *

It hasn't been 100% confirmed yet, no. It would be ridiculous to choose A-Yo over this when you consider how each has done since being released as promo singles. Radio would love this as a winter ballad too, it's the obvious choice (which means they won't go for it sleep.gif)

Posted by: SeanGrey 24th October 2016, 09:18 AM

Am I alone in thinking Come To Mama would make a great Christmasy single?

Posted by: blacksquare 24th October 2016, 10:31 AM

A-YO would have made sense in September but it's too late when Million Reasons is right there and performing better.

Posted by: Davidson 26th October 2016, 09:32 AM

Really hope Carpool helps this get off to good start. Definitely was the best moment of the video.

Posted by: HausofHorrors 26th October 2016, 11:56 AM

#13 in the US sob.gif MAKE IT A SINGLE COME ON I can't believe A-Yo is the one that will get a push.

Posted by: Blurbe Witch 26th October 2016, 10:13 PM

This is so good. I'm really surprised this isn't being pushed as a single because as a non-fan I'm absolutely loving it and no doubt others would too. I'd say this is her best since Telephone for me. And if I hadn't have heard how poor the rest of the album is, it would coax me into buying Joanna.

Posted by: blacksquare 26th October 2016, 10:39 PM

Top 5 on US iTunes.

Get that video shot.

This is Do What You Want vs Venus all over again!!

Ayo can be third following this boost!

Ballads, particularly winter ballads, sell albums.

It is a great song on a bad album and showcases her voice, which is what this era is all about.

From atrl ~

According to LadyGagaSpain, they asked UMG Spain if Million Reasons is the new single and they have confirmed it.

Edit: Interscope has deleted the tag "NEW SINGLE" of A-YO on Playiga.

Still not 100% confirmed. But has to be true?

A-YO officially Venus'd?

I need Michael response pronto.

Posted by: DiamondHeart 28th October 2016, 11:59 AM

She needs to release a tweet confirming the change to MR. Great decision and I can't wait for a video. Simple but bloody beautiful song, you can hear the pain in her voice with every line she sings. So intense and impressive.

Posted by: Jonjo 28th October 2016, 12:14 PM

Ahhh! Really hope it's true. A performance of that on XF might actually get the UK public back on board with her, properly! It'd sell her album a lot more too!

Posted by: jase. 🎃 28th October 2016, 12:39 PM

Huge X-Factor final performance of this plz. I hope radio here start spinning this soon too!

Posted by: Dannoween 28th October 2016, 12:43 PM

It seems to happen every era now Gaga changing her mind on the single choice laugh.gif Good though, it'd make no sense for them to stick to 'A-Yo' when 'Million Reasons' is US iTunes #1.

I think it would really benefit from an X Factor performance too so hopefully she has the sense to come over here.

Posted by: HausofHorrors 28th October 2016, 01:13 PM

XF performance is a MUST.

Interscope have removed the 'new single' tag from A-YO's official radio page. Come through Million Reasons ~

Posted by: HausofHorrors 28th October 2016, 04:10 PM

I'm changing the thread title, a little premature but it's basically confirmed.

Radio stations are receiving this:

Also it's the first song on Spotify's 'Piano Ballads' playlist. COME THROUGH

Posted by: Addy Boo! 28th October 2016, 04:16 PM

even though I am not really on board with her this time, I am delighted to see her having some success wub.gif

Million Reasons seems like type of songs that people will stay connected to her.

Posted by: HausofHorrors 28th October 2016, 10:04 PM

I believe it's being sent to US radio asap. Officially happening wub.gif

Posted by: Oricon 28th October 2016, 11:41 PM

They need to take advantage that while it's currently high on iTunes to push as much airplay as possible to make this smash. Please make it right interscope!

Posted by: mr_pmt 29th October 2016, 01:45 AM

If this is the case, then that is a really sensible decision! In terms of the UK, I can't see her getting on the Radio 1 playlist again but with a couple of high profile performances I could potentially see this doing something and keeping the album ticking over until the end of the year!

Posted by: Tyler 29th October 2016, 10:32 AM

I want to love this so much but I cannot click with it sad.gif

I'm only here for 2/3 of the album. 1/3 I don't even return to now oops. But when it's good, it's beautiful.

Still her weakest album for me but I like and seeing her happy across social media is the best of feelings. No more pain like ARTPOP she has come full circle :'( that's reason enough for me to stick by her!

Posted by: ¡Michael Myers! 29th October 2016, 11:42 AM

You should stop trying tbh Tyler.

At least people are more hur for it than Artpop but I didn't like Artpop except for a couple songs either! Two in a row for me. Joanne isn't a mess with gross songs but it is very beige.

Glad we are at least on similar wave lengths! If it wasn't Gaga's long awaited return to pop I'd really enjoy the album. Which, like I said before, is unfair of me to box her in as an artist.

The Fame - Born This Way is by far my favorite era in pop music outside of Britney. Even outdoing Madonna's ''Confessions'. But, at the same time it's like casual Britney fans comparing everything she does to her past work. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm still trying to enjoy the ride with my expectations absent.

Posted by: Cody Krueger 30th October 2016, 12:17 AM

Definitely echo a lot of the statements above: this is an example of smart marketing. It was one of the songs that was cherry-picked the most during the album release (and this was before the SNL performance), and the constant promo of it (whether it be another performance of some sort of the Apple Music commercials that pop around once in a while) can keep it afloat. Hell, all promo aside, it's holding up better than "Perfect Illusion" did. I can see an AMA performance to this. Could end up being a multi-format hit. Maybe a remix bundle? I think the possibilities are endless.

If James f*cking Bay can get a hit with this sort of song in the current music climate, so can Gaga.

Posted by: UltraBasicWitch 30th October 2016, 02:53 AM

This is her best single in a long time, i really liked the x factor performance and i liked how it was staged, it wasnt over the top which sometimes i find her downfall, but i think she got it spot on this time. I hope it boosts the album for her aswell.

Very meh video.

Don't see any reason for the 'Perfect Illusion' footage to be included. The rest is just of her posing awkwardly and doing jerky body movements against a white backdrop.

The nicest parts were the black and white make up chair bits, but those are also dull.

MTE.

Also, the parts when she plays the guitar were filmed on the same set as the A-YO Apple commercial, so it's more than obvious that part was originally intended to be a MR commercial but they decided to put it in the video.

Never did I think I would see the day when Gaga releases a music video of left over footage from her previous video and outtake shots from a commercial.

Seems a far cry away from how much she cared about her visuals a few years back.

This reaction sums it up perfectly, for me.

I didn't realise 'Perfect Illusion' was (supposedly) set to a time where she used to just wander off and want to be on her own! This is her deepest and most personal video to date. For sure.

Posted by: DiamondHeart 15th December 2016, 10:59 PM

I love Gaga, she's my favourite and years from now, she will probably still mean everything to me but if I'm going to be an honest fan, MR is her worst video. Eh Eh was basic, yes but it had cutesy pop art vibrance to it and was filled with energy. TEOG, again not her best video but it still had redeemable qualitaites as she pulsates through that New York set but MR just gives nothing. It's messy and not in a good sense, to think this is the same woman that provided the same visuals for Paparazzi, Bad Romance, Telephone, Judas and Marry the Night, it's disheartening.

I love her, this video doesn't taint the love I have for, but I do agree it's just a meh video which I've never really had with Gaga. An AMA-inspired video would have been much preferred, that whole production design is better than every shot from the MR video.

This just got its biggest radio update to date in the US. Still life in it :') and whether it matches the actual sales or not, her biggest US song since the Born This Way album, right?

A year ago, Lady Gaga released the (then) promotional single 'Million Reasons' as a digital download across the globe. The song went on to garner a big following and hung around for a while on US iTunes in particular. Following a few high-key performances and repeated climbs to #1 on iTunes, the song was eventually confirmed as the album's second single later in the year. But it's been a year since we first heard Gaga's now defining ballad, so how has it aged over the past 12 months for you?

Do you have a million reasons to love or hate the song?

Posted by: WitchHaus 8th October 2017, 06:19 PM

I thought the song was nice, if a little faceless and repetitive at first kink.gif But I got swept up in the MAKE MILLION SALES A SINGLE!!1 frenzy (especially over A-Yo :')) and over time it's cemented itself as a real gem in Gaga's back catalogue.

It is Gaga at her most exposed, ever and for that I commend it being a single, and a successful one. Perfectly representing the innocence of Joanne the woman and album, it's a lovely piece to accompany such a personal project. I love it whenever I hear it now and I think it'll always be a special release for her because it was when she well and truly discarded all gimmicks and just SANG.

Posted by: Sonia Fowler 8th October 2017, 06:20 PM

This was such an emotional moment from Joanne I adore it way better than PI for me (although that was great too) heart.gif

Agreed. I can't name many of her other pure ballads that I really properly enjoy but her vocals on this aren't TOO try-hard. Very natural sounding and I hope her future ballads are more in this vein too. 'Joanne' song does it very well too actually!

This song definitely feels waaaay bigger than its chart peak suggests in the UK, it's far outsold 'Perfect Illusion' hasn't it?

Posted by: Adelita 7th October 2021, 10:55 PM

Yes, Gaga was torn between A-YO and MR, but as MR performed better with the audience, she chose the latter to work on, like Venus and DWUW in 2013.

Posted by: Adelita 1st March 2022, 04:41 PM

Million Reasons (and the whole Joanne era) lacked playlisting, which is essential in the streaming era. Gaga and her team were still stuck in the digital era where performances had huge effect on the charts and forgot to invest in playlisting. But what to expect from a manager like hers? She will always be a year or two behind the music industry as long as she is under his bad management.

Posted by: Highausakite 1st March 2022, 05:20 PM

Yeah playlisting was a big issue. I don't think the public were TOO ready for her off the back of the divisive ARTPOP era too but the song's power shined through and proved the haters wrong. Can't believe now it's one of her most streamed! cheeseblock.png

Yeah this is one of those genuinely successful tracks what’s peak is sort of misleading.

The UK release was midweek for this too wasn’t it so it could’ve potentially had a slightly better debut than it did / an extra week top 40. I’m glad it actually did sneak the top 40 though, had it just missed out and been stuck with a #41 or #42 peak it would’ve been so annoying!

Her team seem to be better these days and she’s in a better position now on streaming sites than she was when this was released. The live performances of this though are practically all incredible though especially the Royal Variety one which I very regularly watch back still now wub.gif wub.gif what’s the UK sales for this compared to those of Perfect Illusion?

Last figure I have for Million Reasons is 429,000+ (Gold). But I could imagine it around 465-80k now.
