I know I'm probably just saying this because Perfect Illusion flopped everywhere but this would've made a better lead single instead of that. I don't think it's AMAZING but then I've never been huge on her ballads but I think it's nice and listenable but more than anything it's FRIENDLY and radio probably would've been a lot more accepting of it.
It's also very true to Gaga herself and could almost be a Stefani Germanotta penned track from 2007!
sounds a bit blah for me...too slow and just doesn't pick up on first listen.
Perfect Illusions remains unbothered
A lot better than Perfect Illusion for me
Gaga with http://chords.tv/ sound !!!!
I love it.
It would've been a better first single like Foue Fuve Seconds but still not classic GaGa.
I knew I wasn't going to get "classic Gaga", I doubt that's coming from this project at all. But I still expected something better than what sounds like a Nickleback B side. Her vocals sound great though, and much nicer than they do in Perfect Illusion.
I'm not sure what kind of audience this album is aimed at, but I guess Gaga is just doing her thing and what she loves so I respect her for that.
It's nice, not as good as "Dope" but miles better than something like "Speechless" for me.
Absolutely loving her vocals on this and the song! So good
I like it! Not sounding like a single but definitely a great album track ballad in the way 'Speechless' and 'Dope' were. It gives me a bit of hope for the album.
Yeah it's a lot better than PI but that's hardly hard.
It is a nice little melodic song and it does seem true to her so congrats etc. but it's the kind of thing that doesn't really have any replay value for me. Don't feel like I'll get anything more out of it from repeated listens.
Brilliant.
This is gorgeous and she sounds better on this than almost all her other ballads. So stripped back and raw
I'm pleasantly surprised by her vocals on this, in that she's not shouting.
Oh this is an improvement on Perfect Illusion. It's a bit of a standard song but I do like the way she delivers it.
agreeing with dandy* that the song is what it is, an okay sounding song but her delivery on this is great!
I really like this. It's quite credible and better than perfect illulison.
I must be the only person who prefers Perfect Illusion as beautiful as this is, give me that chaos gaga I love.
This song is really starting to tug on my heartstrings. I actually think it could work as a single, especially the way it seems to be holding up on iTunes, or at least another song from the album of a similar vein. Regardless, I need a live performance of this!
If radio took to it then I agree it could work as a single, it's simple and I think that would be refreshing from her.
Definitely! It does feel like she's become less "showy" this era so some simple ballads that are elevated by her voice would complement that well whilst still being special enough to be recognisable as Gaga and different to any other radio-friendly ballad.
Here's that performance you wanted, Liam
https://www.facebook.com/10376464573/videos/10153935796915095/
This song is SO beautiful. I'm pleased to see this is holding up for her!
Thank you! It really is a song she can put her all into whilst maintaining its melody and gentleness.
Isn't the reason it's holding up is because Million Reasons is an instant grat for Joanne?
Instant grats now only appear on the iTunes chart solely for actual purchases of the song rather than album pre-orders affecting its position. That feels like a really badly written sentence but hopefully you'll get the gist of what I'm saying!
Yes it does, thanks!!
I'm surprised it's holding on slightly better than Perfect Illusion even with minimal airplay too! It could work as a single later on perhaps (but please give me a pop jam Gaga I'm so thirsty for it)
Have you heard Ayo? It is a JAM!!
No Michael! I've been trying to hold out on listening to any leaks and gig performances so I get the full experience whenever the album releases!
Ayo is another Fypsy.
She released Perfect Flop when she has a Gypsy quality song right there.
Tshh tshh.
This is no where as good as 'Gypsy'. PI >>>>
This is nice. And pretty forgetful at the same time. It's a 7/10 on a good day.
No, Ayo, not this.
Still need to hear that. I was questioning your sanity last night! Lmfao.
(So nothing's changed basically)
I wish this was the second single, it's a really understated beauty and I feel as though Heart FM and the like would get back on board with her with a song like this.
Probably the best Gaga song I've heard since Do What U Want.
I do think this would be the best option for second single. Is 'A-Yo' absolutely conclusively confirmed as the second single?
This is starting to run away from the rest of the album for me, especially with the SNL performance I can't believe I wasn't feeling this at first, it's so simply beautiful and I defintiely think it's the best choice for next single. A-Yo would just flop entirely and I know that nothing really has a chance to smash or anything but as has been said this would at least stand a chance at attaining a fair bit of airplay.
Am I alone in thinking Come To Mama would make a great Christmasy single?
A-YO would have made sense in September but it's too late when Million Reasons is right there and performing better.
Really hope Carpool helps this get off to good start. Definitely was the best moment of the video.
#13 in the US MAKE IT A SINGLE COME ON I can't believe A-Yo is the one that will get a push.
This is so good. I'm really surprised this isn't being pushed as a single because as a non-fan I'm absolutely loving it and no doubt others would too. I'd say this is her best since Telephone for me. And if I hadn't have heard how poor the rest of the album is, it would coax me into buying Joanna.
Top 5 on US iTunes.
Get that video shot.
#2 now!
This is Do What You Want vs Venus all over again!!
Ayo can be third following this boost!
Ballads, particularly winter ballads, sell albums.
It is a great song on a bad album and showcases her voice, which is what this era is all about.
1 Drake - Fake Love 1.0000
2 Lady Gaga - Million Reasons 0.9929 0.9951
so close
currently #1
Congrats
YAASSS never thought she could do that with another song than PI this era
So happy it made it! Was stuck at ~99% for what seemed like ages has to be enough for her to make it the next single now? 👀
HELP
From atrl ~
According to LadyGagaSpain, they asked UMG Spain if Million Reasons is the new single and they have confirmed it.

Edit: Interscope has deleted the tag "NEW SINGLE" of A-YO on Playiga.

!!! DON'T KNOW WHAT TO BELIEVE BUT PLEASE
French radios just received Million Reasons as a single instead of A-YO.

Both official music reporters from France
Best decision for sure.
Sensible team.
Still not 100% confirmed. But has to be true?
A-YO officially Venus'd?
I need Michael response pronto.
She needs to release a tweet confirming the change to MR. Great decision and I can't wait for a video. Simple but bloody beautiful song, you can hear the pain in her voice with every line she sings. So intense and impressive.
Ahhh! Really hope it's true. A performance of that on XF might actually get the UK public back on board with her, properly! It'd sell her album a lot more too!
Huge X-Factor final performance of this plz. I hope radio here start spinning this soon too!
It seems to happen every era now Gaga changing her mind on the single choice Good though, it'd make no sense for them to stick to 'A-Yo' when 'Million Reasons' is US iTunes #1.
I think it would really benefit from an X Factor performance too so hopefully she has the sense to come over here.
XF performance is a MUST.
Interscope have removed the 'new single' tag from A-YO's official radio page. Come through Million Reasons ~
I'm changing the thread title, a little premature but it's basically confirmed.
Radio stations are receiving this:
Also it's the first song on Spotify's 'Piano Ballads' playlist. COME THROUGH
even though I am not really on board with her this time, I am delighted to see her having some success
Million Reasons seems like type of songs that people will stay connected to her.
I believe it's being sent to US radio asap. Officially happening
They need to take advantage that while it's currently high on iTunes to push as much airplay as possible to make this smash. Please make it right interscope!
If this is the case, then that is a really sensible decision! In terms of the UK, I can't see her getting on the Radio 1 playlist again but with a couple of high profile performances I could potentially see this doing something and keeping the album ticking over until the end of the year!
I want to love this so much but I cannot click with it
Really hoping for an amazing video to pull this all together for me.
It will hopefully connect with you in time Tyler and when it does it's glorious.
Being issued to radio NEXT WEEK.
Edit: waiT music video rumoured to be shot TOMORROW !! This work
bal u are my one reason to keep trying this album.
You should stop trying tbh Tyler.
At least people are more hur for it than Artpop but I didn't like Artpop except for a couple songs either! Two in a row for me. Joanne isn't a mess with gross songs but it is very beige.
Definitely echo a lot of the statements above: this is an example of smart marketing. It was one of the songs that was cherry-picked the most during the album release (and this was before the SNL performance), and the constant promo of it (whether it be another performance of some sort of the Apple Music commercials that pop around once in a while) can keep it afloat. Hell, all promo aside, it's holding up better than "Perfect Illusion" did. I can see an AMA performance to this. Could end up being a multi-format hit. Maybe a remix bundle? I think the possibilities are endless.
If James f*cking Bay can get a hit with this sort of song in the current music climate, so can Gaga.
This has really hit me over the last week or so! Really hope it can be a hit 💖
Lady Gaga just told NRJ France that the #MillionReasons music video is coming out soon and there will be a surprise!
Yasss
It's back up to #23 on US iTunes after someone performed it on The Voice. Hoping all that and the music video gives it a second life because IT'S TOO GOOD FOR RADIO NOT TO PICK IT UP
https://twitter.com/UniMusicIreland/status/804748000706883584
Gaga will perform MR tonight on Graham Norton !
Wait what tonight!? Or is she filming for next week??
Top 10 in the US again This would be such a smash if radio was on board *sigh*
Is that VS video promo or the actual video?!
Either way it's adorable
Not sure but it's WORKING.
(it's not the real video - that is expected to be coming next week!)
COME ON RADIO GET ON BOARD PLEASE
They see her as a Z list flop now so they won't touch her again.
This is her best single in a long time, i really liked the x factor performance and i liked how it was staged, it wasnt over the top which sometimes i find her downfall, but i think she got it spot on this time. I hope it boosts the album for her aswell.
#16 in the UK
#7 in the US!
Ugh I hate the UK radio for ignoring this.
This is holding up so well on iTunes in the US/UK! Video hasn't even dropped yet. It's a hit already I don't care if radio continue to snub it.
Number 40 in the midweek chart, a further climb would be deserving for this track.
VIDEO COMING TOMORROW AND IS A CONTINUATION OF PERFECT ILLUSION PERFECT TIMING FOR ITS RELEASE
https://www.instagram.com/p/BN90P4vhVzN/
But It Wasn't Love (It Was A Perfect Illusion) (Something about Amphetamines) had no storyline!!
CANNOT WAIT
Z100 officially added the song! We can expect much better radio updates!
About time! It's doing incredibly without radio support here and in the US. Needs to be readded to Spotify playlist too ~
Hopefully!
#35 in the UK midweeks today, should climb a bit more with video release Come on radio/spotify, we've never needed you more than now (although I am happy with it doing this much without them, but it could be doing SO MUCH MORE)
It's really nice. Suits the song very well, I think.
The video is ok, but did I miss the twist?
A nice video ~ nothing spectacular but does the job.
It's cute.
Very meh video.
Don't see any reason for the 'Perfect Illusion' footage to be included. The rest is just of her posing awkwardly and doing jerky body movements against a white backdrop.
The nicest parts were the black and white make up chair bits, but those are also dull.
Never did I think I would see the day when Gaga releases a music video of left over footage from her previous video and outtake shots from a commercial.
Seems a far cry away from how much she cared about her visuals a few years back.
This is down with Make Me in the bargain bin of bad videos.
They both deserved much more.
i'm still so sad that i can't enjoy this era
This reaction sums it up perfectly, for me.
I didn't realise 'Perfect Illusion' was (supposedly) set to a time where she used to just wander off and want to be on her own! This is her deepest and most personal video to date. For sure.
I love Gaga, she's my favourite and years from now, she will probably still mean everything to me but if I'm going to be an honest fan, MR is her worst video. Eh Eh was basic, yes but it had cutesy pop art vibrance to it and was filled with energy. TEOG, again not her best video but it still had redeemable qualitaites as she pulsates through that New York set but MR just gives nothing. It's messy and not in a good sense, to think this is the same woman that provided the same visuals for Paparazzi, Bad Romance, Telephone, Judas and Marry the Night, it's disheartening.
I love her, this video doesn't taint the love I have for, but I do agree it's just a meh video which I've never really had with Gaga. An AMA-inspired video would have been much preferred, that whole production design is better than every shot from the MR video.
Million Reasons is growing and growing on me and im really starting to like it alot now, id love this to be a sleeper hit and just get bigger and bigger. This is her best single in a very long time.
This just got its biggest radio update to date in the US. Still life in it :') and whether it matches the actual sales or not, her biggest US song since the Born This Way album, right?
OMFG IT'S SO MUCH HIGHER THAN I THOUGHT
Re-enters Billboard Hot 100 at ....
#4
!!!!!
OH MY GOD. That's crazy. She stuck with that song until the bitter end.
Talent
Always
Wins
Her first Digital Sales Chart #1 since Born This Way (song) !!
I am honestly so proud of her and happy for her <3
No. Way.
This is never her biggest since Born This Way!!
That settles it. Use this song as a p,atform for hernext album and pretend this and Gypsy were the inky songs from last two akbums.
Co e back with renastered Brooklyn Nights and new album.
Career restarted.
First official remix of this to be released on iTunes tonight!
ooooooh
This is really taking off on US radio now. They probably pushed the John Wayne video out a bit too early.
I'm glad it's realising its potential!
A hit single!!! Her first since Applause.
That's all she needed to launch with momentum for next album.
This single literally took Gaga's team multiple attempts before the radio went on board with this.
The song received the second (very close to first) biggest radio update in the US today. Radio are ON BOARD this is so deserved and it's almost back to being top 5 on iTunes there
THE ETERNAL SINGLE
it will be performed on The Voice UK tomorrow !
Platinum!!
A year ago, Lady Gaga released the (then) promotional single 'Million Reasons' as a digital download across the globe. The song went on to garner a big following and hung around for a while on US iTunes in particular. Following a few high-key performances and repeated climbs to #1 on iTunes, the song was eventually confirmed as the album's second single later in the year. But it's been a year since we first heard Gaga's now defining ballad, so how has it aged over the past 12 months for you?
Do you have a million reasons to love or hate the song?
http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=204762
DISCUSS~
I thought the song was nice, if a little faceless and repetitive at first But I got swept up in the MAKE MILLION SALES A SINGLE!!1 frenzy (especially over A-Yo :')) and over time it's cemented itself as a real gem in Gaga's back catalogue.
It is Gaga at her most exposed, ever and for that I commend it being a single, and a successful one. Perfectly representing the innocence of Joanne the woman and album, it's a lovely piece to accompany such a personal project. I love it whenever I hear it now and I think it'll always be a special release for her because it was when she well and truly discarded all gimmicks and just SANG.
This was such an emotional moment from Joanne I adore it way better than PI for me (although that was great too)
I don't tend to like Gaga's ballads but this is excellent.
well this was a HUGE grower wasnt it
I really loved this at the time and I still do now, definitely one of her best and I think it will endure from here on in also.
Pretty much exactly what dandy* said. Such a gorgeous song and was the immediate highlight of the era for me.
Yes I also think it's her best ballad, totally gorgeous piece of songwriting
I think this will actually end up amongst some of her most well known and well-loved singles ever.
A stunning song. The saving grace of the 'Joanne' era and hopefully an underrated Gaga classic going forward.
I also agree! Particularly in the US it'll be really well remembered. If only for being her signature ballad! 'Speechless' found rotting xo
Lady Gaga’s most streamed song on Spotify is now ‘Million Reasons’ with 227,375,753 streams surpassing her hit single ‘Bad Romance’!
We luh a modern classic
YESS! It truly is an upcoming classic
Her biggest songs are collecting about 3-4 million streams monthly on Spotify
I welcome this news.
Million Reasons is a stunning song.
YAAAAAAAAAAAS TALENT
Her voice is GODLY.
The UK snubbing Million Reasons was not deserved at all
Look at what our current #01 is, the UK don't possess an ounce of taste x
Officially gold in the UK! Smash!!
Great to see the song get the success it deserves
Yep a new generation is finding this
Omg I saw that - what has caused the climb?
The Masked Singer. It's top 80 now
I still remember Hauw fighting for Ayo over this and calling it thr new Bad Romance
Do we know uk sales for million reasons, this for me is her best single.
Happy 4th birthday to this gem. It grew a lot particularly around the time of the Super Bowl performance. Now it's a lovely addition to her singles catalogue!
WIll be one of her best remembered songs in coming decades
It's currently her 8th most popular on Spotify and approaching 500M streams.
By the way there's always time to watch this divine performance
The highlight of Joanne
Diamond Heart >>>>> them all x
A Million Reasons should have become much bigger.
I hope it continues to attract sales.
Oh my this is #58 on UK iTunes. Why?
I mean it should be top 5 forever but...
I was about to come here to post that it was released 4 years ago today but I have no idea about why it's back!?
Performed on The Voice, apparently.
This was the performance on last nights The Voice.
A solid effort actually first time I’ve heard it from a male vocalist too.
Oooh that explains it then! *.*
Potentially straight cis-man singing Gaga, we stan
(At least he did well in the chorus)
On this song ~ 4 years on, it's a beauty. Can't say I return to it too much but I see it as a pivotal single for her (particularly in the US). It seemed to be the song that changed her fortune again in the US after a couple of, let's call it how it is, flops in GUY and Perfect Illusion.
WE DID IT
500 million streams on Spotify for this! Her 4th most streamed song on the platform
Smash hit
Adelita ma queen
One of her classics for sure!
#69 on iTunes
Omfg THIS to Brer and to its iTunes!!!
Smash hit!
Amazing to see those numbers really, it is really a future classic that developed under the radar. The highest Spotify position in any country is #15 in Brazil.
It’s a beautiful song which went rather unnoticed in the U.K. at the time of release which is scandalous
This is defintely her sleeper hit. Never seemed big during its release but has gone on to rack up very healthy sales and streams!
Those Brazil numbers
Just listened to this, what a coincidence! Still so powerful ballad
Gorgeous
5 years on Where has the time gone, seriously. Did ANYONE expect this to do as well as it did off the back off Perfect Illusion? It's one of her highest streamed songs and the way it smashed into the top 5 on Billboard after the Superbowl
it's completely amazing and one of her signature songs these days. She also worked so hard to sell the song to audience and I think it kind of saved the era in the end? One of my absolute faves!
I love million reasons and one of my absolute faves from lady gaga.
The comments are heartbreaking at times. This and I'll Never Love Again are truly her most effective ballads
This video
I hardly ever return to the music video the song grew on me so much over time though! Now it's a beautiful ballad and a key part of her journey to redeeming her chart success after a few quieter moments on the charts!
The video is perhaps in her bottom 5. It does, however, give us the trademark and most distinctive Joanne look.
Her live performances of the song are so good, especially the Royal Variety one.
The live performances were great. It was one of many highlights at the Superbowl too!
Her Super Bowl show turns 5 this coming winter too
Remember when trolls wanted A-Yo to be a single over this!?
A-YO should have been the lead single instead of Perfect Mess.
Yes, Gaga was torn between A-YO and MR, but as MR performed better with the audience, she chose the latter to work on, like Venus and DWUW in 2013.
One of her best singles and I love how many performances there are to watch! A true gem. Although shame about the video, truly awful for her standards.
MR was sung on The Voice in France
Love that! It's really the little engine that could - went against all odds and became a bonafide hit in the US. I thank it a lot for getting support back to her from radios/streaming after Perfect Illusion killed a lot of it off!
I just listened as part of the album because i'm doing the Joanne rate and it's such a restrained beauty. A centrepiece for the album in a way! Happy 5 years of not stressing that she was going to choose A-Yo over it as 2nd single
Johnny Logan singing Million Reasons
600 million streams on Spotify!
Yess! Really happy how big it became in the end. It seemed to happen "in secret" in 2017-18 as it never charted very high outside the US. Switzerland, Italy and Hungary embraced it a bit.
Million Reasons (and the whole Joanne era) lacked playlisting, which is essential in the streaming era. Gaga and her team were still stuck in the digital era where performances had huge effect on the charts and forgot to invest in playlisting. But what to expect from a manager like hers? She will always be a year or two behind the music industry as long as she is under his bad management.
Yeah playlisting was a big issue. I don't think the public were TOO ready for her off the back of the divisive ARTPOP era too but the song's power shined through and proved the haters wrong. Can't believe now it's one of her most streamed!
Also crazy that this song thread has only 10 pages
Yeah this is one of those genuinely successful tracks what’s peak is sort of misleading.
The UK release was midweek for this too wasn’t it so it could’ve potentially had a slightly better debut than it did / an extra week top 40. I’m glad it actually did sneak the top 40 though, had it just missed out and been stuck with a #41 or #42 peak it would’ve been so annoying!
Her team seem to be better these days and she’s in a better position now on streaming sites than she was when this was released. The live performances of this though are practically all incredible though especially the Royal Variety one which I very regularly watch back still now what’s the UK sales for this compared to those of Perfect Illusion?
I don't think MR is "selling" particularly well in the UK. It has had more relevancy elsewhere and it sounds pretty country.
400,000+ is more than I ever would've imagined for it back when it was initially released!
Apparently, this had its biggest day this year on Spotify on Tuesday (270k).
Another certification! how many platinum singles is that now?
Glad she released this!! Saved her whole career
This reaching Platinum in 2022 is the least I deserve.
300 MILLION views on YouTube
Still needs to be certified 4x Platinum in the US, her label are so behind with certifications.
Wonder why RIAA just don't set up a system that labels pay X dollars extra as a membership fee and the get automatic certifications.
Now it's like their healthcare system
“Million Reasons” is now certified Platinum in France after selling over 200,000 units.
Another certification
700 million streams on Spotify
The first song from Joanne to do this.
This came on shuffle at our office yesterday (we always listen to some music on Friday afternoons) and my colleague said that this is her favourite song! Taste!!!
We also listened to Hold My Hand and I had nothing to do with these choices
This got over 320k streams on Spotify on Wednesday - over 11% up from Wednesday last week. Is it coming?
Again over 300k on Monday - this seems to be getting mini-revivals every now then
Monday streams
Million Reasons — 303,235 (+13% vs last week)
Shazam:
#22 Sweden
What is this??!
Certified platinum in Spain!
This will reach 800 million streams on Spotify during the weekend.
