As mentioned, there were 3 UK #1 singles, and in fact, this was the total of #1s since the release of Now 28 in the Summer. So there were no #1s to be counted out on this occasion. Making an entry to the series on this occasion was Pato Banton, Whigfield, (MC Sar &) The Real McCoy, Corona, Oasis and Ultimate KAOS. However, once again, a high number of artists would not be heard of again in the series, and they are Big Mountain, Michelle Gayle, Youssou N'Dour, Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories, Crash Test Dummies, Louis Armstrong, Red Dragon feat. Brian And Tony Gold, Music Relief, Celine Dion, M Beat feat. General Levy, Shampoo, Sparks and 2wo Third3. I have quite a dillemma with Now 29, because theres so much music on here I really like, and yet theres also so much music I really don't like! To narrow it down to a top and bottom 5 was not easy because for me, theres no much that belongs in both categories, I really cannot make up my mind if I like Now 29 more than I dislike it. There is alot on this compilation which just shouldn't be on there, especially the shocking #70 from Music Relief. I didn't really follow music charts in 1994 so I couldn't really say what "should" be on Now 29 that isn't, but for what it is I would say it's average. The cover is quite good and I like the surprising variety that was becoming routine with the new releases, it does give the impression of a solid and ongoing collection of artwork. Artwork Rating: 6/10 Good Now 29 has quite a nice cover which is just a basic baby blue and white patchy background which could give one the impression of snow / winter related theme. The title is in big bronze colouring, and certainly stands out in the rest of the series. Also for the CD release, a corner tag indicates that even though it's in a slimline case, it is still a "2CD SET". Disc 1 Favourite: New Order True Faith '94 A personal favourite of mine from a well established British indie band who went on to have many other hits. Ironically this song was originally a single in 1987 but performed much better the second time around. Disc 2 Favourite: Massive Attack Sly Not a huge favourite but certainly a strong point in Massive Attack's long spanning career. Always loved their music to relax to. Overall Rating: 7/10 Very Good Andrew's Best 5 (as of February 2017) 1. New Order True Faith '94 2. Corona Rhythm Of The Night 3. Whigfield Saturday Night 4. Massive Attack Sly 5. M Beat feat. General Levy Incredible Andrew's Worst 5 (as of February 2017) 1. Shampoo Trouble 2. Sparks When Do I Get To Sing "My Way" 3. R.E.M. What's The Frequency Kenneth? 4. 2wo Third3 I Want The World 5. The Rolling Stones Love Is Strong This post has been edited by awardinary: Feb 21 2017, 08:23 PM |

Some good songs on here.
Right Beside You - Sophie B Hawkins 7 Seconds - Youssou N'Dour Confide In Me - Kylie Minogue (the only song by her I like) When Do I Get To Sing "My Way" - Sparks 'Gratuitous Sax & Senseless Violins' by Sparks and 'Whaler' by Sophie B Hawkins are two great albums which I still play quite a lot now. I gave the artwork for this one a 6/10. I like the wintery theme and the blue but I am not such a fan of the bronze.
Disc 1 for this edition is SO strong! There were so many classics I could choose from here. But ultimately I went for Whigfield - 'Saturday Night' as it is one of my ultimate feel-good anthems! In fact it is my go-to song if I want to put on some music to get me hyped while getting ready to go out. It is the epitome of carefree, joyous and FUN music I'm so glad it managed to get some time at #1 after that mammoth Wet Wet Wet reign. Disc 2 isn't such a classic disc for me, but there were certainly a few good'uns scattered about on there. I went for Blur - Parklife as my favourite track! Oasis are my second favourite band of all-time ('Cigarettes & Alcohol' not quite up there with their absolute best though, hence 'Saturday Night' pipping it) but I am certainly not so fiercely team-Oasis that I would dismiss the music of their rivals at the time 'Parklife' feels like THE ultimate Britpop classic, which was a musical movement that I'm fully behind. Another carefree singalong anthem here for me! Shocked that it only got to #10! I rated this edition 7/10 overall. Disc 1 is brilliant but Disc 2 is pretty average really so that dragged it down. Looking forward to getting into the 30s editions I will have actually been born at the time of release soon |
