'Do What U Want' (feat. R Kelly)
Lady Gaga @ladygaga 7h
OFFICIAL DO WHAT U WANT FEAT @RKelly COVER ART. Song Available this Monday 12:01am! pic.twitter.com/L2evORgE2T
WELL. Not really the image I wanted in my head
Song clip sounds great though.
So we'll be having 2 new entries by GaGa in next week's chart if this and Venus are released as planned
I've had that clip on repeat recently. In need of some silky-smooth R&Bga so this had better deliver.
And the cover art !
So she's now also ripping off Kendrick Lamar with those covers.
WHEN WILL THIS END
(jokes)
IS THAT HER ASS?
Well i'm hoping it's not R Kelly's !
Not much longer to wait now. I really want to hear it in full.
Did anyone see her Twitter meltdown this evening?
Fabulous.
Really like the snippet! Much better than I thought it would be. Cannot wait to hear it in full.
Wow...really good tbh LOL
It's goooooood! I think it's a grower too. Different to what's out there at the moment and I can see this serving as the 4th or 5th single.
That is fresh as f***. And yet pure 90s. The melodies... So smooth! I'm melting.
I'm so here for this being the fourth single with an added feature (with R Kelly starting with "It's the remix..")!
Addicted to this after the 3rd listen! It's brilliant. So different and "fresh as f***" indeed!
This really is something very special.
It sounds like Mariah Carey in places as well!
IMMENSE.
This is f***ing amazing.
AMAZING! So much better than Applause. I'm all for this being a single at some point too! R Kelly slays just as much as Gaga on this, a great collab and a great song!
Sounds like a genuine smash. Just a straight up pop song with fantastic results. So instant, so so catchy.
Seriously brilliant. R Kelly's verse and that middle 8 'Venus' has stiff competition and needs to be BIG to to not be overshadowed by this.
3/3!
#1 on US iTunes
Released midnight tonight in the UK and worldwide.
This is good, nice to hear GaGa's voice on a mid tempo. I can't see this being a single but if this is the standard of the album tracks then I can't wait for it to drop!
Edit - I was listening to the slowed down version
#1 on US iTunes already and with Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift as competitions as well?!
Perhaps this should have been lead single..
It really isn't a mid tempo with the proper, non-slowed down version.
Will be crazy if it isn't made into a single. So addicted.
Yeah, I just noticed that the video posted here was slowed down. The proper version is still slower than Applause though It sounds like a massive grower though, such a jam
Well its instantly better than Applause, actually really liking a GaGa song its been a while!
This. Is. INCREDIBLE!
Her best song in a while easily outshining Applause for me.
Venus is under tons of pressure to now top this.
Could this 'do a Edge of Glory' and become her third single? It does seem quite popular but I think Sexxx Dreams needs a release! I hope Venus is just as good, if not better, than this!
Applause, no. This, yes.
So good.
YES YES YES this is immense oh GaGa u slay me
R&BGa *.* Get on board the ARTPOP train, next stop, Smashtown!
Translation: Bloody brilliant and a surefire smash!
Really like this and much better than Applause
However, the actual beat is very similar to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky_B7vyGIAc&feature=youtu.be
SO GOOD. She is back on form, absolutely love it!
If this is just a promo single I can't wait to hear what she's got lined up as official single
This is brilliant!! LOVE IT! So addictive. She should do R&B tinged songs more often.
sfg
OMFG.
Cannot remember the last time I was this obsessed with a Lady GaGa song. SO GOOD.
I think it's alright, but really not all that amazing, oops
It's only intended to cause hype for Venus isn't it? If people think it's good then more publicity for the campaign and Venus. I don't see them promoting this song again after this personally.
Much better, stronger and more individual than 'Applause'. I approve!
Apparently this, Venus and Dope will be ineligible to chart!
Someone with Twitter needs to start a campaign!
I can understand this and Dope not being able to chart but Venus too? Thats the single. But I guess since it's being included in the promo single
thing it wont chart?
This is so GOOD. So much better than 'Applause' (not rly any competition tho) Starting to restore a little faith that this era may be quite nice.
This is my Favouirte Lady Gaga song in a while I've not really liked anything by her since the Fame era but this is great and it sounds like something that would be on The Fame Album.
Was initially underwhelmed, but 3rd listen in and it's great.

After a few more listens I'm really liking this, her best in a long while, she should do more songs like this.
I'm sure a lot more #1s will be added to that last over the next few hours! One hour till release here b!tches!
It's a shame that Australia, one of the first places which made Gaga into a commercial mainstream artist just ditches her nowadays and pretty much don't tolerate her anymore.
The UK seem very similar in that respect, she struggles here which is a shame
Hopefully, the UK will pick Gaga up back after this. Bar the UK and Australia, everyone is still here for her globally.

Europe hasn't been given the treatment of the track yet, although I believe it'll do justice tomorrow morning once I check its update.
WHO decided Applause was a better lead single than this??? This would have surely been a huge smash, right? It's easily the best thing she's released since anything from The Fame Monster. I can't help but think Venus won't be nearly as good as this either...like what was she thinking for real
The song has debuted at #43 on UK iTunes! Fantastic debut position!
Surprised at this completely loving reaction - first listen, it's decent but it's nothing special. Sounds more like an album track from The Fame, not very exciting at all.
This is so boring.
#1 on UK iTunes!!
After giving it a day or two, I have to agree with Rob It's pretty good, but nothing that's much better than a lot of The Fame. If it was on The Fame Monster, it'd be the second weakest track after Teeth.
I think this has a lot more to it then The Fame which overall was a pretty basic pop album imo, compared to what she's done since at least. For me it's the best thing she's done since some of the tracks on The Fame Monster. It's just so infectious.
Currently #1 in 57 countries on iTunes including US, UK and Japan!
Im glad this is #1 on iTunes now over that rubbish that was there...I think it is because it is much more instant. With Applause it really had to grow on you to love the track (I do now). But with this track, the melody and even the lyrics get locked in you're head. This morning I woke up and whilst in the shower i was humming it LMAO!
Ok this is really bloody growing! I found Applause quite instant, but this has taken a bit longer, and yet it was a quick click because it's grown so much since this morning.
Apparantly someone on twitter is saying that this is now the official single and not Venus....
Yep, she's confirmed it herself.
The stupid cow DWUW is so painfully average.
YAY. If "Venus" turns out to be completely amazing and even better than "Do What U Want" then maybe I'll change my mind but for now I think it's a great decision with how well it's performing worldwide and how commercial it sounds.
I'm so glad this will be the second single now! Such a tune
Great news! (saying that without having heard Venus I know) The right decision by her team seeing as this is doing things in the charts! Hopefully this means she'll be performing this on X Factor instead of the planned Venus.
It still won't be allowed to chart tho. What a mess this era is turning out to be!
Yeah, such a mess. Second single #1 on virtually every iTunes store. Silly successful bitch!
I'm obviously ecstatic it's a single because it's the best she's done in a while but she could have kept it for the 3rd single.
What if 'Venus' comes and is an even bigger success than this? Will she just change again. Part of the fun with Gaga is the unpredictability, but i can't help but feel this is off to an even messier start than the last era
Also have no idea if it will actually be able to chart at all in the UK ://
Must admit, it does look like she has little faith that 'Venus' would have any ounce of success that this is currently having so has decided to change just to see if she can get a hit after 'Applause' failing to be as big as she may have hoped. Would have been good if 'Venus' remained cause it may actually be very decent, but this is also very good. Is she going to switch back to 'Venus' if this flops on its arse?
This is the best thing she's done since The Fame era.
It's a simple pop song, it's what made her so successful in the first place. I know her fans love her egotistical nature, but it really does not reflect brilliantly to the casual public IE myself. This is back to basics and obviously people must be feeling it for it to be the second single and it's doing so well worldwide..
Total #1 on iTunes is 70 countries.
Number 1 primarily due to per album sales
This era seemed f**ked up from the beginning to me now this?!?! It deffo puts what she will be performing on Sunday to some confusion thats for sure!
If this is now OFFICIALLY the second single then she should perform this on Sunday with R.Kelly (If he is available) then it will give the song some more recognition and longevity!
Seriously, most on board I've been with a Gaga track since "Bad Romance".
'Venus' is still being released on Monday and will still have a video according to Gaga.
The public don't know a damn thing about Venus. To them it doesn't exist yet. So how can the campaign be a mess? People need to stop over analysing and look at the bigger picture. We know this song appeals to the casual fans she lost last time so let it do its job.
Thinking about it, for all we know Venus doesn't even exist! Or it does and it was never intended to be a single. But I don't see why GaGa would want to release a buzz single a few days before her new official one so I'd rather think it was her plan all along.
I think this is a great decision! I also played Sexxx Dreams to someone yesterday and they loved it (they hate Gaga). 3rd single please!
GaGa did make a massive deal on Twitter the other day about announcing 'Venus' as the second single to be fair, but I think this will work well.
It's really catchy!
It's not a mess commercially obviously (i mean the song has managed to beat the record previously held by 'Someone Like You' by topping iTunes charts in 83 different countries!!) but i just hope she isn't rushing this decision at the first whiff of a hit.
She's filmed stuff for Thanksgiving already in the US and apparently didn't perform any of the promo singles (guessing that includes DWUW) so will she re-record that for a chance of extra promo for the single? And lord knows when we'll get a music video given the effort she's gone into planning the 'Venus' video which is still coming. She might also be deleting the song and re-adding it as a single on iTunes which will make it count on the charts so if she's doing that she needs to be FAST or just add it on Sunday so X Factor can propel it up. I'm not really fussed because we're getting a damn good song out of it but just a little wary that it will take a lot more effort to get the single going because of all the scrapped plans for 'Venus'/starting over from scratch (and i'm known to stress/freak out anyway so bear with me )..
That record doesn't really mean much as a BUNCH of new itunes stores opened earlier this year.
I'm talking about the public at large Jonjo, not the small percentage of them who follow Lady Gaga on Twitter. Nobody has heard Venus on the radio, seen it on vevo... It's just been hyped among the fans. I don't know why those same fans seem so against her trying a new sound with the second single.
'Do What U Want' is not eligible to chart. What a waste!
Shame about being ineligible! Hopefully they change the rule, but I don't think they will. Perhaps they should release a separate single version ASAP though? Looks like there's lots of unhappy people on Twitter!
Definitely in my top five favourite Gaga songs now. So effortless and I think this is the first song for years that I HAVE to play repeatedly after I've just heard it. Really impressed with what she's done and I think this is an early contender for my favourite songs of 2013.
This will be massive in America. It needs to happen.
It's perfect for the time of year. God, consider me STOKED for ARTPOP, tbh.
I've just realised why this isn't clicking fully - it's about 5 BPM too fast. It could have been brilliant, although I still like it. A bit like "Heavy Metal Lover" with a proper chorus.
According to the sales report it sold 22,915 copies; would have been #10 if it was chart eligible!
Gaga needs to understand nothing other than that she has full control over what she wants to do.
That's not necessarily a positive.
Tbh having heard 'Venus' for the first time on Sunday alongside the superb 'Do What You Want', the latter is everything I wanted 'ARTPOP' to be. Good, simple pop. 'Venus' (so far) is everything I did not want it to be. I love most of the stuff that she comes up with but even as a big fan I can see that she needs to simplify things and go back to basics. If there's more 'DWUW' on ARTPOP, consider me excited.
Ahhh this has fully clicked for me now, what a sublime track.
Music video will be directed by Terry Richardson:
Please be good, I need a good video from her again.
Looking like it's set in a hospital, then??
I have a love/hate thing with Richardson. I kinda love his style but he's a bit too creepy. If the image is anything to go by then the video could be really great (if it's not 15 minutes long).
YAS.
Maybe it will have references to her hip surgery in it? If it is set in a hospital
If they're only just filming it, it will be a while till she releases it!
At least it will help it with longevity in the chart though!
I wouldn't worry about that at all April. The song is only just getting started and one of the problems with the last era was big opening sales and then falling super fast so she's done well to keep 'Applause' in the top 10 for so long in the US this time round. I'm confident the video will be out around the time it's huge on radio there which would = a very good peak and longevity.
On the concept i think it could well be the hip surgery as Regina alluded to. And maybe a 'Bad Romance 2.0' going on the images so far/theme of that video and this song
Anymore news on the video?
Hopefully it gets a good debut position here in the UK this week...probably around #7-8. As long as they include the sales in the certification/official total, I don't mind that they excluded the song for so long!
On the video:
“It’s a powerful video, I really love it. It shows us completely beaming and smiling into the camera as two very passionate performers; and it’s sort of the juxtaposition of all these worlds, and all the different Lady Gaga’s and R. Kelly’s that you think you know coming together, through the eyes of Terry Richardson.”
Did anyone see her performance on SNL? Was alright. The stuff she was doing with R Kelly though... had that been Miley's performance, the world would be in flames! But meh. Whatever. I liked it.
The AMA performance was unreal. She snatched her crown back. Nobody is even talking about Miley or Katy today. It was perfection. So good to have her back on form on the stage.
AMAZING!
HA amazing. Comments are very largely positive all over the place too.
You can really tell how much the song means to her after that :'(
When can we expect the video for this?
THAT'S the GaGa I've missed. <3
I can't get Will Arnett and Amy Poehler's final skate in Blades of Glory out of my head when I watch that.
Is it bad that I think R Kelly sounds better than Gaga there? (other than that, fab performance!)
I love the song more and more everyday and the performance was great... until the last bit. She did the acapella thing at the end too many times before and I can't stand her screaming voice.
Why can't she just do a "fun" performance without ruining it at the end like that! She does it all the time.
Just gone back into the iTunes top 10 here in the UK; it would be an ideal if the music video dropped towards the end of the week or start of next week! Here's hoping! *fingers crossed*
Video coming 3rd December.
PERFECT timing!
(oh apparently it could just be the behind the scenes video coming then )
Is it definitely the video to this? Apparently there are teasers for 'Venus' going around, which means it could be that video?
The Venus "teasers" are not real. They're Gaga playing with dolls, making them dance to Venus. She uploaded them on her Instagram.
Also, there has been an official announcement about Do What U Want's video package. It's being released through BitTorrent in a bundle with other stuff. I'm assuming it'll also be uploaded to Vevo at the same time.
Its the behind the scenes being put on bittorrent, not the video proper. No word on a premiere date yet.
If Lady Gaga released the video for 'Do What U Want' in the next day or two, plus with the likely boost from her Alan Carr performance on Friday, should could be in with a chance of challenging for #1 next week. Unfortunately, it won't work like that in reality and we'll probably be waiting another couple of weeks for the video!
Alan Carr performance was utterly sensational. The third classic Gags performance we've had this era, after DWUW @ AMAs and Applause on Music Station. She's on fire/
@ladygaga
Amazing Performance and a big "F" you to Perez hilton as well
Xtina tweets Gaga:
Hahahaha the impossible has happened !
Great performance, they should form a duet à la Icona Pop
I hope xtina features Gaga on her new album hopefully out next year.
Was indeed fab.
We're getting the Rick Ross remix in a few days. She should do an EP with that, the xtina collab, the solo version and an acoustic version (Alan Carr type). Plus the video if she really wants to time this all well for once.
xtina was f***ing awful.
doing her miss piggy grunt throughout her ENTIRE vocal?
assuming they're waiting for the beyonce hype to die down before releasing this video? it's getting a bit late now...
We don't need the video. We've got Ross
What is that?! 'It feels like a remix yeah'
Looks like we could be getting another remix soon...
According to DJ White Shadow, the music video is "so close".
Recent rumours suggest a Jan 1st release, which could be accurate going on his tweet.
About time!
It's much too late now, about 5 weeks ago would have been ideal.
Oop. It's happening.
Not an Aguilera fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I hope this can save the song. It's way too good to underperform as much as it has.
Confirmed to be out 1/1/14.
(+ the video?)
Who needs music videos when you have Christina Aguilera remixes, anyway.
ugh why
I don't know, I feel CONVINCED that a music video would ruin my love for the song for some reason, maybe because I'm worried it won't do the song justice.
I've resigned myself to the fact we probably won't get a great music video from her again, but hopefully this won't be any worse than the one we got for 'The Edge Of Glory' when we eventually get it.
I was hoping the video had been scrapped. It looked shit from the photos and it should've been out six weeks ago.
This fanmade artwork is giving me major life.
Love it
Yes, that's what I needed. Shame there's no new verse but Her Legendness kills it anyway, great vocals. "what u want Lady Gagaaa"!!!!
Where is the video for this?
I'll be sticking with the original (which got the biggest reception out last night, she's still got it <3) but i'm so glad this actually happened.
Still no sign of the video though...
The R Kelly video has obv been scrapped. I reckon it will be reshot with Xtina (and hopefully without Terry Richardson) but knowing the pace at which Gaga works I don't expect it to premiere before April.
safe to say 'mildly embarassing'
honestly. this is such a low point of her career, its so awkward and all sort of IDK. i'm so stuck for what to say, it's ever so harder than you could ever be twixt imagine x
I don't care about these remixes, I just want the video! Sometimes Gaga can be so frustrating!
Christina remix is now available on UK iTunes https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/do-what-u-want-feat.-christina/id791206398?affId=1930871
Love this version! Well I love both but Christina is amaze.
26. Lady Gaga - Do What U Want (feat R Kelly)
29. Lady Gaga - Do What U Want (feat. Christina Aguilera)
Just outside the top 10 combined. Video NOW PLEASE!!
Yes, we really need it now!
What a sloppy mess this era has been lol
And here's why apparently?:
Wait, what? So she's had management problems?
it sounds like she's had issues getting her shit together tbh. how long can you claim disaster plagues you when infact it is you that is the disaster in the situation?
move on to 'gypsy' or just start afresh all together.
The video for Do What U Want must come out soon to save it, just as well the Christina Aguilera featured version is riding semi-high throughout the charts worldwide before she moves on to Gypsy as the next single.
OOPs it was already posted
Seems to me like we won't be getting the video then Was irritated before but I don't mind so much now, glad she seems to be in a better place with the era now and hopefully that shows in the future singles, videos and so on.
It must be disappointing for Gaga for others not to get her and what she wants to do, but as Jake says, she needs to understand that she's the problem for them.
Where is that from?
If true, leak please!
I haven't got a source, I got it from someone else. It could easily be fake but at least it's something I guess.
Probably fake then
The last part sounds incredible.
I really don't understand the R Kelly controversy. Can someone please explain how Interscope only realised AFTER releasing the song that he was a p****?
Glad we didn't get that video!
She is letting outrageous tactics take over the music this era and surely she should be all about the music first and foremost?
The video has started leaking.
It's blocked... We could be getting it though? ...
Any more music video stuff anywhere?
Keeping it classy.
Now I see why it wasn't released
With R Kelly's past, the video looks even more horrific.
http://ladygagarumours.tumblr.com/post/81799059870
That video has been posted again here. I actually really like the look of the video. I hope it leaks in full, or eventually does get released!
Oh my! Looks v controversial
So intrigued to see it all, hope it leaks.
The song just won't die. A solo version is released in Spain on a compilation album, check below:
"Do What U Want" just wants to happen!
GOD will this song ever disappear?
Its UK chart run:
09-16-11-10-14-23-26-23-12-29-38-45-56-75
You're welcome.
Information about the video has been revealed as it's finally confirmed that it was scrapped due to being too controversial.
She really is such a gobshite! She could have had a much bigger hit/sold more albums if she wasn't always so concerned with pushing boundaries that don't need to be pushed and taking her 'art' and herself far too seriously for anyone outside her fanbase to relate to her. I know there's the argument that commercial success isn't everything and she's being true to herself etc. but she's far too pretentious for her own good.
She should've just released it. Who cares what the haters think!
I think GaGa does as the haters would've scalped, dragged and clocked her
http://tmz.vo.llnwd.net/o28/2014-06/19/0_9tciflln_0_1simjsbn_2.mp4
That looks a damn mess, I'm glad she didn't releas it.
Apparantly TMZ has the full version and they're waiting for enough people to notice the leak before completely leaking it
hat video is atrocious. Like she wants to kill her career?
SUCH a mess! So glad she scrapped this!
Looking at that, I've certainly seen WORSE videos from her since 2010 (that's not me trying to compliment this, by the way).
The newspaper dress/background scenes look amazing but that opening and the implications of it all :|
MESS. Like thevideo of a cheap budget third class popstar.
That's her best video yet!
In seriousness, I wish she just recorded another with Christina or something.
There's a fine line between Art and Hot Mess and she crossed it. I hope she's learned her lesson and doesn't try too hard again.
HA. That's likely.
They definitely should have just recorded a second video. But I imagine Gaga was fighting tooth and nail to get that "art" released and once it was clear that wasn't gonna happen she had no further interest in the song.
I don't mean to come between you, but technically it's an artist forum, not a fan forum. Everyone is welcome to post.
This collaboration looks more and more like a CHOICE as time passes....
Not surprised there's a renewed backlash brewing on social media in light of recent events and now the media is picking up on it!
We will stick with the Christina Aguilera version from now on!
Working with a known p**** and sexual molester, END HER CAREER tbh x
(Srs though I'm heartbroken coz this song is a f***ing B O P </3)
I think Gaga had a lot of regrets. Hence why she cancelled the video and made an Xtina studio version.
To think back in late 2013 I was so gutted this video was never released!!
Best it never was released now tbh.
Although tbh I have a weird feeling it’ll leak one day.
Still the song was a BOP but Xtina version will be the one I’ll go back to now in future.
http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=218498
I'm just surprised that anyone is trying to pretend they didn't know about him. He's had a well-known pattern for decades now.
You have to wonder how many people she fired in anger for letting her ever do this as she wants to sweep the awards season...
Lady Gaga has apologized for her 2013 collaboration with R. Kelly and promised to remove the song "Do What U Want" from iTunes and all streaming services.
"I stand behind these women 1000%, believe them, know they are suffering and in pain, and feel strongly that their voices should be heard and taken seriously," Gaga told her fans. "What I am hearing about the allegations against R. Kelly is absolutely horrifying and indefensible."
She continued: "As a victim of sexual assault myself, I made both the song and video at a dark time in my life, my intention was to create something extremely defiant and provocative because I was angry and still hadn’t processed the trauma that had occurred in my own life. The song is called 'Do What U Want (With My Body),' I think it's clear how explicitly twisted my thinking was at the time. If I could go back and have a talk with my younger self I'd tell her to go through the therapy I have since then, so that I could understand the confused post-traumatic state that I was in- or if therapy was not available to me or anyone in my situation-to seek help, and speak as openly and honestly as possible about what we’ve been through.
Gaga then promised to remove the song, which served as the second single from ARTPOP and was later re-recorded with Christina Aguilera, from iTunes and streaming platforms.
She added: "I can't go back, but I can go forward and continue to support women, men, and people of all sexual identities, and of all races, who are victims of sexual assault. I have demonstrated my stance on this issue and others many times throughout my career. I share this not to make excuses for myself, but to explain. Til it happens to you, you don’t know how it feels. But I do know how I feel now. I intend to remove this song off of iTunes and other streaming platforms and will not be working with him again. I’m sorry, both for my poor judgment when I was young, and for not speaking out sooner. I love you."
Good to see that she's spoken out about this, taking responsibility for the decision she made at the time and apologised.
Not surprising that she's made the call to have the song removed, but I wonder if that'll include the Christina Aguilera version too? It's just, R. Kelly has a songwriting credit, so he'd stand to continue earning off the song if Christina's version remains up. Hmm~
Yet, it will always be seen as a cynical awards ploy.
It must all bug her endlessly - why didn't she pull it before? Or for GaGa - couldn't they wait until March to air that damn documentary?
There's literally no good way around it for her, but I guess this is what she had to go with. Bless.
I literally haven't listened to the R Kelly version in years so that can stay pressed/cancelled. The Xtine version remains a bop
Honestly, in a weird way I find this fascinating - because I don't think there's a way she could've responded to this appropriately without coming off as cynical.
How would YOU have responded to this?
It's such a shame she couldn't have just had ANYONE other than R. Kelly on that song.
Hopefully the Xtina version remains up (which presumably R Kelly wouldn't have any credit on as I imagine he only wrote his verse which the lyrics to got replaced?) but that article makes it seem like she regrets the song altogether so I imagine that'll be removed too.
It always didn't sit right with me how the lyrics were empowering for anyone who's the victim of a sexual assault. I'm glad it wasn't just me being naive and that Gaga agrees too that it was a questionable stance to take. I think this the first song in my memory since I've been following popular music that a song has been taken down or looked back on in a bad light so that will be an odd feeling, especially as it was a major song in the ARTPOP era and a reasonably popular song with the GP. Does sound like it is for the best whatever way you look at it and I think her approach to tackling this has been spot on.
Just waiting for artists to do the same with 6ix9ine in the future...
I think the statement was pretty much expected (although that "when I was young" bothers me, as it was 6 years ago) and as DWUW is not her tour staple etc it wasn't probably a tough decision to make for her, also because the solo version and Xtina duet exist too.
People were young (and dumb x) all those years back. It's why I (personally) don't agree with James Gunn's backlash and Kevin Hart's Oscars backlash. It'd be very different if they were unapologetic or their tweets were recent, but they thankfully were apologetic and have had to apologise for it many a time before the backlash started. You can clearly tell how much they've grown and changed as people. People do change and for the better.
James Gunn's in particular. It was just very dark jokes. Pretty sure I and others on here have joked and laughed at very similar/worse memes etc..
I am not forgiving, however, if A- they're not apologetic for their words and/or actions, B- they stand up for the accuser despite plenty of evidence suggesting otherwise (*cough*Nicki*cough*) or C- their actions were inexcusable (R Kelly, Chris Brown, Kevin Spacey, Harvey Weinstein, Bryan Singer, XXXTentacion, 6ix9ine etc..)
So Gaga working with R Kelly despite it being known that he was that sort of person, is forgivable, for the fact she has apologised and you can quite clearly tell she meant it, imo.
I'm not gonna be a blind stan here, it was and still is disappointing that she worked with him. As said, it's always been known what he was (and this documentary is just unearthing even more details). However, she clearly had regrets pretty much the whole time, what with the whole Xtina version thing and cancelling the video, and apologising and taking the song down is about all she can do to show that. Of course, she shouldn't have worked with him in the first place when whispers of his appalling acts were always around but I hate that the women who mistakenly worked with or supported these men are getting more flack than some of the actual men As said in her statement, it was a tough time in her life and something that brings back really bad memories, you can tell how much it means to her. She is clearly being totally genuine, she can't go back and change working with him or erase the song from existence and everyone's minds, what else is she meant to do?!
At the heart of it all, why don't people channel this energy towards the actual abusers and paedos instead of a woman who has clearly regretted working with him this whole time? It's so tiring that in this world, every little thing from years ago is pulled up for certain people, yet so many awful people are still allowed to get away with the actual things they've done. Like Jonjo said, if she had been making excuses the whole time and fervently supporting him as a friend or something I'd understand it a lot more. Plus exactly, SO many artists (Beyonce, Jay-Z, Jennifer Hudson and Justin Bieber, for one) have worked with him and aren't getting the same flack for it. It's easy to say it's a ploy for awards season, but what was she supposed to do? Stay quiet until after the Oscars and keep getting shit for it?! I think it's just one of those things where it happens to co-incide at probably not the best time, the documentary series being on while she is in the spotlight for ASIB at award ceremonies. She had to speak out and she has, I don't and couldn't want more than that. It's a very different thing to have (probably apprehensively, given how she has clearly always felt) worked with someone than to have actually abused someone, supported them or made light of the situations.
Yeh, wasn’t she in a really bad headspace during the whole ARTPOP era? Not really excusing collaborating with that but, yeh, people are waaaaay too happy to blame others.
(songs still great)
Also, no one’s coming for Ignition being played at every single club every single night or that 2014 remix of Bump and Grind.
This has been playing on my mind a lot today. It makes me so uncomfortable and angry that Gaga gets the flack amongst all the R Kelly allegations. Really sums up society's views towards women and rape.
#29 on iTunes
Almost top 10 in the US..
The original version completely removed from iTunes now that the deletion has processed I'm presuming cos it usually takes a while *.*
Tho I think it did hit top 10 on US iTunes before it got removed 😭
Looks like it's been removed now, which also means you can't buy Artpop (as it's marked as 'partial album')
Still available on Now 87 though(!!) watch that version fly up the chart (and the Xtina version is still on too).
Ben single handedly destroying ha career!!!! *.*
The Christina version should hopefully stay on iTunes.
I can’t say I listen to the song regularly and I’m a Gaga STAN. But I did appreciate it today and realised it was an actual bop strong chorus and I enjoyed all versions of the song too, Xtina r Kelly and the solo version. The solo version performance on Alan Carr is an amazing performance and one of if not the best of the entire ARTPOP era based on vocals.
As far as ARTPOPs singles went I actually preferred Applause which I guess is a very unpopular opinion on here
Can’t she just release the studio edit of the solo version? I get the Xtina version is the only other released version available (and it’s probably gone now) but I’m not really a fan of 2014 oversinging Xtina
And I know I’m late on this but I just wanna say that I’m also not a fan of this whole “guilt by association” thing. I’m glad that Gaga spoke out against it and took the necessary actions, but if she’s still getting the vitriol that she’s getting and we’d want others to do the same, then... is anyone really unproblematic? We’ve all heard an R. Kelly song, remix, sample at least once in our life. Anytime someone badly wails “I believe I can fly” is still significant exposure. If we’re supposed to give the same energy using guilt by association, then unless you’re living in a rock, then you’re problematic and you should be getting that same amount of vitriol as well, and we’re all hypocrites. That’s why this mindset fails.
It wasn't tough decision for her I think, the song is not among her biggest hits and has always been a bit hmmm despite the empowering vibe. But she has so many more important songs of empowerment.
R Kelly is credited on every version of the song - he’s still receiving coin with the Christina and solo versions.
She’ll likely take them all down.
Christina version is still on iTunes
I don't know if y'all know that but DWUW was a Gaga solo song, they put R. Kelly's vocals on the track before she finished the album and gave it to the label to release.
The solo version of the song was randomly uploaded last year on Youtube (so I don't know why they haven't put the solo version of the song on the album yet, as R. Kelly has no credits in the solo version of the song and he will not earn any profit from that version)
Listen to the original version of DWUW below:
It definitely sounds a bir empty, like a demo. If only they'd given it to anpther rapper, such as Kendrix Lamar
The Christina version of this came on in a club I went to Saturday night. Literally started as I walked onto the dancefloor and it made me realise how much the song is an absolute banger. It's such a shame that it wasn't Christina penned from the start because I feel it would've continued to mature into one of her biggest streamers and certainly ARTPOP's biggest by miles. Or she needs to add Christina's onto the album on Spotify but I assume R. Kelly would still get royalties from that version too?
I'm fine with it not being included in the album - it would feel wrong if it suddenly appeared there after all these years.
It is sad that such a bop will be destined to be forgotten though. Cannot see her ever performing it live again.
Should we change the title to include Christina?
Removed R Kelly from the title! Added Christina to the subtitle
What was she thinking It should have been Christina from the START!!! Release Gypsy first, smash hit, then this, second single, then SEX DREAMMSSSS next, revamped, maybe with the Spice Girls, and then ARTPOP the sang, and dinish with Applause with a tour video.
It woulda got people TALKIN!!
SEX DREAMMS with the spice girls is a wild thought... where did that even come from?
