Cool daily star: Britney to perform at 2016 billboard music awards on may 22nd

QUOTE
The Toxic hit-maker is set to perform at the Billboard Awards on May 22 in a bid to relaunch her career. According to a source close to the bash, Billboard have been desperate to sign Britney up after she performed at last year's show with Iggy Azalea.

"Everyone knows Britney brings in massive ratings, so it was a no-brainer for producers to try and get her on board," the source explained to Daily Star Online. "With her new single dropping a couple of days before the show timing couldn't be more perfect. She is in the best shape of her life so the performance is set to be a massive return to the top."

btw, she doesn't have shows in may and most of june.

Las Vegas Sun hints at a performance as well.

BRITNEY’S INVITE: Producers of the 2016 Billboard Music Awards are hoping to land Planet Hollywood headliner Britney Spears for their ABC telecast from the new T-Mobile Arena on May 22 so that she can debut her new single, “Make Me (Oooh).”

But there are a lot of logistics and times to be resolved before any final decision, so the official status as of today is “nothing can be confirmed or denied at this time.” Producers are trying to adjust telecast plans in an effort to figure out a way for Britney to attend and perform.

Performance confirmed by Billboard just now. She will be performing a medley of her Greatest Hits and there are rumours of the new single debuting at the awards show. Britney is also being given the Millennium Award.

The Billboard Music Awards are about to hit an artist one more time with one of their Millennium Awards — and this time the honoree is Britney Spears.

Meant to acknowledge outstanding career achievements and influence in the music industry, Billboard Millennium Awards were previously handed out to Beyoncé (in 2011) and Whitney Houston (in 2012).

Spears has collected six Billboard Music Awards in the past, and had six albums debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, with 24 Top 40 singles charting on the Billboard Hot 100 (five of which went to No. 1).

Spears will perform a medley of her hits at the show, which will be hosted by Ludacris and Ciara. The 2016 Billboard Music Awards will air live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas May 22 on ABC, at 8 PM ET and 5 PM PT.

Of course he is. He knows nothing but how to complain. zzz.gif

This is amazing news. So pumped for this. I really hope she can include 'Stronger' in there somewhere!

Posted by: Tyler May 3 2016, 09:53 PM

Do you guys realize this is her first performance at an award show in 5 years?

And this is the first time she has premiered a single with a live performance in 15 years?!?

With the music video set to be released the same week (or following week, one of those is almost for certain)

AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF ITS WITH A MEDLEY AND AN ICON AWARD. If this doesn't send her to the top of the charts I'm not sure WHAT will.

WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS AS FANS SINCE 2004.

My only regret is that Luciano isn't here to witness this with all of us. sad.gif

I still can't actually believe this is happening. We've been so malnourished with promo performances for such a long time. ⚰

I may die.
I do NOT see how my life will get much better than this performance.

Okay, so a little dramatic. BUT, i'm getting the same buzz and hype I got for her HUGE X Factor return all those years ago. wub.gif (2009 was it?) cheer.gif

I'm not even worried about it. If she delivers the same execution as Vegas it will be huge.

I WANT:
Baby One More Time
Stronger
Slave
Toxic
Gimme More
Work Bitch

Baby
Oops
Slave
Toxic
Gimme More or Piece Of Me
Womanizer
TTWE
WB

What I think:
Ii doubt the performance will be more than 7-10 minutes.

At least 3 minutes will be the new single.
1 minute - BOMT
1 minute - Toxic
1 minute - Slave or Stronger
1 minute - Womanizer
1 minute - Gimme More or Piece of Me
1 minute - TTWE or Work Bitch

I absolutely love her arrangement of Oops at the Vegas show, quite rocky

Posted by: Rob Spears May 19 2016, 07:08 AM

So, she's performing;

“Work Bitch,” “Womanizer,” “I Love Rock N Roll,” “Breathe On Me,” “Slave,” “Touch Of My Hand” and “Toxic.”

Thoughts?

Posted by: mr_pmt May 19 2016, 07:11 AM

I Love Rock 'n' Roll? blink.gif puke.gif

Breathe On Me wub.gif I'm pretty sure she big time regrets not releasing that as a single.

As for not performing a new single, well to throw away a good promo opportunity is just so typically her.

Posted by: Joe. May 19 2016, 09:08 AM

The new single isn't ready sad.gif But I actually think it's good to drum up some momentum by reminding people how amazing some of her back catalogue is.

HOWEVER, as much as I love Breathe on Me and low key stan for I Love Rock N Roll, this is a bit of a mess.

I'd do this:
Work Bitch
Womanizer
I Love Rock N Roll Oops! I Did it Again
Breathe On Me Piece Of Me (Or Gimme More)
Slave
Touch Of My Hand ...Baby One More Time
Toxic

(Ideally, I'd put Till The World Ends in there too, since it become quite a well remembered hit, but the setlist above does a perfect job of showcasing a range of her biggest hits)

Posted by: ḇlackout May 19 2016, 01:07 PM

It's all very exciting isn't it? I wonder who'll be presenting her with the award.... I'd quite like it to be Miley or Selena.

Posted by: Scherz May 19 2016, 01:12 PM

Her team are idiots, end of story. They're stuck in this Vegas bubble that Britney is in.
Past her first two albums, Britney became a singles artist.. So why on earth, when she's supposed to be doing a GH medley, is she doing two album tracks & one of her least successful singles?

The point of the performance was to get people to sit up and go 'Gosh, she's really had hit after hit'.. but that setlist is going to leave the general public confused.

I'm baffled by this aversion that she and her team have to '..BOMT' & 'Oops!'. She hasn't performed the originals of either for a very, very long time.
Imagine the FEELS if she opened a GH medley with the original '..BOMT'?! the audience would go crazy. It's one of the most recognisable intro's on a song ever!

Posted by: Umi May 19 2016, 01:17 PM

The setlist is strange but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, it makes me think they have a good idea of what they want to do with the songs. Honestly I'm kind glad 'Oops!' and BOMT aren't included - they may be nostalgic and all but they're also the songs most associated with the idea of Britney being a has-been. Performing later hits ('Womanizer' in particular I think is a fantastic choice) is a good idea, and I don't think throwing out some of her more interesting album tracks is an inherently terrible idea either. I'm excited to see 'Touch of My Hand' more than any of the other songs really. 'I Love Rock & Roll' is the only one I can't really see working - I'd rather that was just cut without replacement to be honest.

Posted by: liamk97 May 19 2016, 01:26 PM

Not seen any previous live performances of it (if there were any) but I imagine her version of 'I Love Rock N Roll' will sound better on stage than it does just as a track on its own. I also reckon it will only be a small segment of the song; it's not like all those songs will be performed in near-full.

Posted by: Joe. May 19 2016, 01:31 PM

Don't get me wrong I absolutely adore all the songs in the Medley, but this is a really good moment for the public who maybe have not thought about Britney in a while to be like 'Wow, I remember all these Brit songs', as Scherz said. I know she'll probably bring out the giant Vegas guitar, but I Love Rock N Roll really has no business being here. And yes, I agree a fan favourite album track is a nice idea but to include two is a bit OTT. I agree it's a bit confused and loads of people are going to end up thinking the two album tracks are new songs.

It's a 'Greatest Hits' medley but of 7 songs it only includes 3 big hits, 1 smaller hit (which retains an iconic status so is a good idea), a largely forgotten cover and 2 album tracks.

As much as I am disappointed, I will obviously be living when I see her back on TV again on Sunday/Monday.

(I'm listening to Breathe On Me now, and am really glad it's included actually, it still sounds very modern, it's the kind of thing I could imagine being a big hit in 2016)

Posted by: Umi May 19 2016, 03:31 PM

I think the album tracks are OK in their inclusion beyond just "I want to see these performed". The most important thing in my eyes is that because they're such strange inclusions you can tell that they're there because Britney wants them there. That indicates that a) she knows what she wants to do with them in the set and b) she's going to be putting in the effort. The exclusion of BOMT/'Oops!' probably means that if they were in the set, she wouldn't have been giving it her all/may not have had direction for them.

In terms of winning over the public it'd probably be better for her to have included songs like 'Gimme More' and 'Piece of Me' than the ITZ album tracks but honestly I still think excluding her earliest big hits was wise even with the strange replacements they have. I feel that even if the ITZ tracks baffle people a bit, they'll garner more interest than performing her earliest classics would.

Still hard to justify 'Rock & Roll', but I'm OK with everything else to at least some extent.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE May 19 2016, 05:26 PM

I wonder if she'll bother re-recording vocals? Not doing BOMT is stupid. And won't TOMH be a little riskay ?!

If she didn't bother re-recording vocals for her show in Vegas, she definitely won't for a one-time performance laugh.gif

Posted by: Ja˙ May 19 2016, 08:11 PM

I love those two album tracks, in fact I'd say both are in my Top 5 Britney album tracks. However I'm not sure how well they'll translate to the audience? It might seem like a let down for those who are expecting hit after hit after hit. If she really had to include non-hits, I'd have just chosen Breathe On Me. Two songs could be pushing it a bit.

I Love Rock 'N' Roll... :') I just hope the performance of it is so electrifying that it makes the song seem amazing. cool2.gif

If this medley really is legit, then I can only assume her team/Britney feels like they're the strongest songs/performances to highlight her Vegas show... so hopefully they know what they're doing. Even if the medley looks a bit "hmm" on paper, perhaps it'll all make sense while watching.

Posted by: Joe. May 19 2016, 08:13 PM

I'm thinking the 'intro' could be the dancers doing something with BOMT/OOPS/a couple others, with visuals - which'll make it seem more hit-filled.

Posted by: HausofKubrick May 19 2016, 08:20 PM

Breathe On Me is in my top 5 Britney tracks and easily her best album track for me. Criminal that it wasn't released as a single so I'm welcoming this much delayed justice!

I do agree with that prediction Joe, I think we might be seeing more than just the songs listed above, it's just those are the ones she'll actually perform...

Posted by: Jonjo May 19 2016, 08:54 PM

Ignoring ILRNR, as a Britney fan, that is a brilliantly unique and unexpected medley! I really believe her new stuff is gonna be in the vein of BOM and TOMH, which is why I think they are included. Plus, it's enough for the casual viewer/fan to be like "ooh. What is this?" and try and get people talking about the performance. BOM and TOMH are two of Britney's most controversial/sexual songs, so are surely gonna be talking points?

Surprised "Til The World Ends" was shafted considering how big it was.

3 songs from ITZ is a bit too much though. She could've done Unusual You over TOMH. Even Work Bitch seems strange, its not a big hit.

Disagree, well it was a hit, not as big as her other hits, but it's gone on to become one of her signature hits. It's cultural impact has been huge and it's made quite the impression.

Posted by: Joe. May 20 2016, 09:26 AM

Yeah, I'm 100% behind Work Bitch being included, it's initial sales weren't the best, but it's her most played song in clubs now, wherever you go. It really is her last really good single. It feels a lot bigger than it was and always apparently gets a huge reaction when it opens Vegas. I'd be very disappointed if that wasn't included.

Posted by: ḇlackout May 20 2016, 11:24 AM

Work Bitch is actually eligible for 2x Platinum in the US, same as Hold It Against Me/I Wanna Go.

But yes as much as I would've loved that set list for the fact they're show highlights, they wouldn't be very representative of her singles run.

Womanizer breakdown and Toxic floor routine and Work Bitch routines must be included. (And final segment of Gimme More).

Will the day ever come when people realise that it's almost impossible to nail complex choreography while delivering decent vocals. Nobody wants to hear somebody panting down the mic.

(I'd love Brit to do some new pre/recorded vocals though)

She could at least attempt to do some of it live though, she could easily tone down the dancing to sing parts live rather than just lip syncing the whole thing.

Posted by: Scherz May 20 2016, 09:20 PM

She could but she won't and we're okay with that.

Oh shut up.

You act like the lip syncing is this new issue, when it's how she's performed through out her entire career. The recent Vegas performances are a lot better than half decent. And really it boils down to the fact that her fans have been begging for a performance at an awards show for years and she's delivering it.

Why don't you have a seat and wait to see what she comes up with instead of belittling her as a performer and us as fans of her. When her fans start having a problem with lip syncing we will let you know though. No one goes to see Britney to hear her try to sing 'Work Bitch' live while humping the floor. WB is really well known in America. It was a club staple in 2013-2014. I'd say it's just as remembered as 'TTWE'. Vegas is a much talked about topic in the states and the song goes hand in hand with that. Not to mention it's her last big hit she has released. Add to the fact it is seen as the return of old school danceney.

Also it has sold over a million copies in the USA, not including streaming.

Yep. Her singles are dedicated to keeping that sex kitten voice which is hard for her to do since her voice is actually quite low.

You can tell that especially when she sings 'Everytime' live;

I mean at the end of the day I think we'd all be very happy if Britney did sing live but this discussion did originate from someone saying she wasn't really a performer (or w/e) because she wasn't singing live and the point to take home is that you really don't need to be singing live to be a performer.

Anyone who says they have no desire at all for Britney to sing live is probably lying to themselves but it is unlikely she'll do both that and dancing and my preference would personally be dancing given the music she makes. Even flawless vocals wouldn't be preferable to a great routine.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE May 21 2016, 09:01 AM

I mean she's done the show in Vegas nearly three years and barely sung a note. Why would she change that for a performance? I'm just happy its not pre-recorded this yearbb

That's my problem though, she doesn't even try. You're making out like i'm not a fan of hers when I actually am, but at the end of the day, she is a singer who makes no effort at all to even attept to sing her own songs at concerts or promotional shows. She can surely tone down part of her routines to show she actually is capable of it then ramp it back up again.

Also, your (and most other stans here) general attitude when it comes to anyone not blowing smoke up her arse is really pathetic, learn to accept criticism, even if you've heard it before, she's done nothing to prove the critics wrong about her singing.

The problem that you have with this argument is that you concerned yourself with what people are 'willing to accept from her'.
Had you said that you weren't happy with it, you'd have every right to say so.
But you said it was sad that we were willing to accept it, when it really has nothing to do with you.

And she doesn't want to or have to prove the critics wrong. The reason she's done nothing to prove it is because they know she can't do it live.

Umi, I'm not lying to myself when I say that I personally wouldn't want her to attempt any part of it live.
It would be a mess and the press would drag her for it. She has never been known for her live vocals, what's there to prove 18 years later?

Posted by: ḇlackout May 21 2016, 11:44 AM

Do you really think Britney's songs were made to be sung live?

People who criticized her in her hay day were f***ing idiots. She started off singing live but you could tell it restricted her dancing. So she had to compromise and she chose the right one for herself. She is a recording artist through and through. It must be difficult to sing in her pop voice, especially when you factor in how much damage it's likely undergone with her lifestyle choices and poor technique.

No that's not what I mean - I'm the same as you in that I'd rather her not sing live if it's not going to be good/she's going to have to sacrifice other aspects of the performance for it. I just mean that I think we can all agree that it'd be ideal if she could sing live (flawlessly) while also being able to do the other aspects of herself well. It'd be nice if she could perform live, but obviously we all know that it might not be wise on her part.

Ah, yes. Then I agree!

Am I blowing smoke up her ass when openly discussing how shit her last album was? Was I blowing smoke up her ass when I've called her out for not dancing worth a shit during the FF tour? I may be the biggest stan of Britney on this board, but, let's not pretend that I'm an unreasonable loon that mouths off to anyone that dislikes her.

See Scherz's comment,TBH.

It's all very well that she's doing https://instagram.com/p/BE6C6zHqXma/ in Vegas now and the fans know about it, but I genuinely can't wait for her to expose this side of her to the general public for the first time in ages.

Ask the general public in America if they know WB. I doubt it. The Britney fandom and the gay community knows it obviously, but this is a GH medley for a wide audience.

Posted by: Addy K!ng May 23 2016, 12:20 AM

omg I was so nervous for her but she nailed it!!!

You can tell she was so nervous at the beggining but then by ILRNR she got herself together and slayed the rest of it.

I love you Britney.

Posted by: Euphorique May 23 2016, 12:21 AM

And just like that Breathe On Me and Touch Of My Hand just cemented their status as iconic album tracks that had the luxury of being performed at a huge awards show

Posted by: Addy K!ng May 23 2016, 12:22 AM

also can I add that she looked so f***ing hot wub.gif

Posted by: Tyler May 23 2016, 12:26 AM

I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD SEE HER PERFORM LIKE THIS FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC AGAIN.

You can tell she put a shit ton of work into this and it really shows! I love you Britney! Slay me Britney one more time!

Posted by: Kye May 23 2016, 12:29 AM

She SLAYED so hard!! Choreo was on POINT and I'm so glad she did the 'Slave' choreo wub.gif

Didn't fully convince me that BOM & TOMH deserved to be there but she did great with them, so props to her.
Only gripe was that they kept showing irrelevant people during the performance.. I wanna see how RiRi reacted etc.

Posted by: Euphorique May 23 2016, 12:30 AM

She should just release Breathe On Me as a promo single hah

I'm excited to see if any of the songs reach the top half of the iTunes Charts.

Posted by: Euphorique May 23 2016, 12:55 AM

Rewatching her clip, I didnt notice the Oops intro before Breathe On Me started

She got better after Womanizer ended, probably nerves got to her initially

Posted by: Euphorique May 23 2016, 01:09 AM

Cant believe she received the award backstage...

I'm immensely proud of her (as always). I did well up a bit. You could see her confience transitioning. Beautiful woman.

Oh and let's not act as if it wasn't her choice to receive the award backstage so she could go home and eat cheese.

Posted by: ḇlackout May 23 2016, 02:02 AM

Also Slave was ON POINT. Her best breakdown since ITZ, hands down.

Posted by: Tyler May 23 2016, 03:50 AM

WHERE CAN I WATCH THIS AGAIN

Posted by: Euphorique May 23 2016, 05:01 AM

ILR&R must be one of her most forgotten hits in the US, all the reviews say "Slave, Toxic, a cover of Joan Jett's "I Love Rock & Roll", etc

Posted by: Rob Spears May 23 2016, 06:25 AM

OMG she was AMAZING!! wub.gif

HOLY f***ING CRAP ON A CRACKER!

Loved seeing the audience reactions and seeing them all be into it, too! Wiz made me LOL though. Camera was on another couple and he pops up out of nowhere laugh.gif

Troye Sivan's reaction was kind of my reaction <3

Posted by: Joe. May 23 2016, 07:59 AM

Soooooo good. She was obviously nervous at the start but it got better and better.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE May 23 2016, 09:39 AM

I'm still dying she performed two 13 year old album tracks over some of her biggest hits laugh.gif

Only Britney!

Posted by: liamk97 May 23 2016, 10:40 AM

I didn't enjoy it as much as I anticipated. A lot of the dance moves didn't flow well to me; it came across as rehearsed and was very "I need to do this move, now I need to do this move, and then I need to do that move". I did love 'Breathe On Me', 'I'm a Slave 4 U' and 'Womanizer though (the latter particularly did flow well), plus she looked incredible and I'm glad it seems everyone is still so invested in her.

Posted by: Joe. May 23 2016, 10:45 AM

I think Womanizer and Toxic were the best. I know what you mean about the "this move, then that", but I only really got that a lot on Work Bitch. I think the choreography for Breathe on Me was very smooth and interesting felt very natural. I loved seeing her LIVING on that guitar with the hairography, but I feel like she could have easily used another hit to use that gimmick, a slightly rocked up guitar heavy Oops I Did it again or something.

I just think when you think where she was last time she did a solo live TV performance compared to now, it's just astonishing to see, I never thought I'd see her get to this level again. It's far from Britney's best performance of all time, but I think any pop star would be very satisfied with that level of performance.

Posted by: liamk97 May 23 2016, 11:02 AM

Yeah, it was more towards the beginning where I got that impression (perhaps, like others have pointed out, that was just down to initial nerves?) and the dancing on the guitar was when the performance took off for me. Then, like you say, 'Breathe On Me' and the mini floor dance during 'Slave' was great and ran smooth before culminating in the best part with 'Toxic'.

I've not watched many Britney performances but I did still feel it was an improvement on what people have said we've had before.
