18. Something (1969) / Abbey Road 4/19 votes The next to drop out, due to losing a three-way tie-break at the last minute, is 'Something'. This song is taken from 'Abbey Road', a classic Beatles album that recently returned to the top of the chart in celebration of its 50th anniversary. 'Something' is a love song written by George Harrison. He lends his vocals to the song in addition to playing guitar. However, this could've never been the case! Harrison offered 'Something' to Joe Cocker as he usually found great difficulty in getting many of his compositions on Beatles albums, with the Lennon-McCartney duo being such a force. But both this and 'Here Comes The Sun' made it on the record and became George classics. The other band members were very fond of it, with John saying that 'Something' was the best song on 'Abbey Road' in his eyes. The romantic single was written about his then girlfriend Pattie Boyd. She later went on to date Eric Clapton, who wrote multiple songs about her also, including the iconic 'Layla'. Not bad going! The promotional video for 'Something' features all the group's significant others at the time - so George and Pattie, John and Yoko Ono, Paul and Linda McCartney and Ringo and Maureen Starr. It is both a sweet watch but also bittersweet, as the couples all filmed separately conveys a feeling of the band going their separate ways. 'Something' was the first ever George song to become a Beatles A-side, as it was released as a double A-side with 'Come Together'. This duo of songs peaked at #4 in the U.K. but topped the chart in the U.S. 18. Something | 4/19 votes 19. Love Me Do | 4/18 votes 20. Yellow Submarine | 5/20 votes 21. Eight Days A Week | 5/17 votes 22. From Me To You | 4/21 votes (original vote) / 10/16 votes (tie-break round) 23. Get Back | 5/17 votes 24. The Long And Winding Road | 4/20 votes 25. I am gutted that 'Something' is out it's such a stunning song - George really came into his own on 'Abbey Road' with both this and 'Here Comes The Sun' he showed signs of brilliance before with the likes of 'Taxman', 'Love You To', 'Blue Jay Way' + 'Within You Without You' amongst others, but he really smashed it out of the park here. At least it didn't quite crash out in 22nd when it was in that tie-break with 'From Me To You'

Oof this is getting super tricky now. Something was the last one remaining I wasn't particularly fond of. Like all the rest to varying degrees.
Gone for A Hard Day's Night. |

No Come Together is great. Even Jacko covered it. He owned the Publishing rights at the time, out-bidding Macca who was seriously pissed off at his former friend. Funny he picked a John song to cover... Come Together is the only Beatles singles song I never heard at the time of release. It got no airplay in Singapore and it wasnt until I bought the much-played Blue album Xmas 1975 that I got to hear it. I was underwhelmed compared to what else was on the album, though it's better than Old Brown Shoe and Octopus's Garden |

Penny Lane. It’s okay but I don’t return to it as often as some of the others.

Come Together leading this is actual insanity. One of their best songs!

All You Need is Love is the worst for me. Awful song!
I like most of the others left in though so the next vote is going to be a difficult one. |
