I have listed the first song released by each member outside the Spice Girls. Which of the 5 songs is the Best Solo Spice! Please Vote and leave some comments. |

None of their debuts except Victoria are their best for me but Emma's is my fave from these songs. Mel c when you're gone would be my fave if on the poll I love that doing.

I don't like any of those other debut singles, but they all went on to do songs that I would like. |

With the distance of time, I have to say 'What I Am' is actually my favourite. I have a playlist on my Spotify called 'Feel Good' and this is on there, Emma and the Tin Tin Out boys were such a good collaboration, it was not too dissimilar to their remixes for The Corrs which is probably why I liked it so much. It's just a shame it got overshadowed by a weak single of Geri's that only ended up at #1 because of that ridiculous Chris Evans business.

To me, that suggests that it was bolstered by being released alongside Geri, but ultimately it wasn't destined to be an enduring hit. Comparing chart runs (xx represents a week outside of the Top 100): 01-04-07-14-23-29-42-39-35-39-54-65-60-61-71-xx-61-68-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-98-98 [Geri Halliwell - Lift Me Up] 02-09-15-23-39-51-57-48-45-45-38-38-82 [Emma Bunton - What I Am] It appears that Emma got the bargain bin treatment to re-enter the Top 40 for a couple of weeks! So at least she experienced two weeks of outselling Lift Me Up. On Radio Airplay, Lift Me Up was significantly bigger despite What I Am having a headstart: xx-41-21-07-03-03-05-09-17-22-22-31-32 [Geri Halliwell - Lift Me Up] 48-38-30-12-06-08-15-22-48 [Emma Bunton - What I Am] At the end of the day, Geri had a very dedicated fan base during that first era. I don't think it's fair to discredit Lift Me Up's #1 status based on who she was rumoured to be dating! While we're on the subject of Lift Me Up, something nice that stands out to me about that single campaign was her performing it using sign language. |
