We have previously reported that changes are being made to the Melodi Grand Prix format, to coincide with its 60th Anniversary. We have initially reported that 40 songs were due to compete in next year’s Melodi Grand Prix. However, it has now been confirmed that this has been reduced to 20.
Part of the changes includes the return of the Semi-Finals, which we last saw in 2014. The Semi-Finals (which will take place in Oslo) will focus on the five regions of Norway:
Northern Norway – 4 Songs to Compete
Central Norway – 4 Songs to Compete
Western Norway – 4 Songs to Compete
Eastern Norway – 4 Songs to Compete
Southern Norway – 4 Songs to Compete
During the Semi-Finals phase of the competition, the four competing acts will face each other in duels, until a winner has been determined.
For the Grand Final, ten songs will compete for the chance to represent Noway at the Eurovision Song Contest. Five of the competing entries would be from the region format as explained above, whilst the other five have been pre-selected and will be revealed as the Semi-Finals take place.

Really weird format, I wish they could at least host the semis in the regions. But at least we will have semis again!

The final will take place in Trondheim! In the brand new Trondheim Spektrum!
The semi finals will take place in H3 Arena in Fornebu (an old hangar in what used to be Oslo's main airport).

The finalists reveal was due to be on 3rd January but has had to be delayed due to the funeral of one of the Norwegian Royal Family so at some point around the start of the following week the finalists will be announced. And one of the rumoured names you might know from her near constant presence in BJSC, her duet with an ex-boyband hunk that got to Andra Chansen in Melodifestivalen 2013 or her noble 2nd place finish to Alexander Rybak in MGP in 2009, one Tone Damli
Other rumoured contestants from MGPs past include Elin and The Woods and Raylee

I might legit scream if Tone is taking part, I would be left with no choice but to stan and stan HARD. One of my all time absolute favourite artists.
Her most recent release, way back in late 2018, was bang on the 3 minute mark and is a bonafide bop.

02. Ulrikke Brandstorp - "Attention" (Previously MGP 2017]
03. Akuvi - "Som du er" (2018 contestant's Anna Lisa Kumoji's sister)
04. Sondrey - "Take My Time"
05. Tone Damli - "Hurts Sometimes" (MGP 2009)

Thank god someone's saying it, I was just going through the first semi-final songs and if that's not the sort of Eurotrash-Margaret-alike that everyone adores before it inevitably fails then I don't know what it is - it's very enjoyable though.
the auto-qualified song this week (released today, they have such a weird system this year but its blatant favoritism aside, I like it for giving me songs at a manageable pace) is easily the weakest of the 5, like a bad 'Dance You Off'.

Viking Daddy sending all his twinks into war gave me a moderate amount of life.
I don't know if Norway have big German energy but I'm minded to think that the winner will come from the Semi qualifiers as an underdog narrative so I'm keeping my ears peeled on the next three weeks.

As much as a travesty as that would be when we already have Raylee and Rein in the final and whatever else is to come in the next three shows, plus Tone who I have high hopes for...I have to say that I prefer it to “My Heart Is Yours”. So that’s something
I think Rein could do very well for Norway as “Higher Ground” and “Spirit in the Sky” both show that the public have an appetite for something that’s a bit traditional Nordic.

Alexandru was a member of Suite 16 from a few years ago so is probably the chosen one to supply this year's MGP twink quotient.

Definitely the strongest selection overall so far, I'd be happy with any except Sie Gubba getting the ticket to the final! If pushed, I think "Vertigo" was my favourite on first listen..

This was the qualifier last night, it's certainly not bad but there's so much better already in the final, these semi finals seem to be getting worse in quality each week...

Tone's song is very very cute. I wouldn't be mad if she gets picked, I'd be stanning Norway again, but it's not gonna dislodge Ulrikke as my favourite from the selection.

Idk what I was expecting or wanted really but Ulrikke is definitely still top for me, cute though and it would definitely be my second choice with Akuvi rounding out my top 3.

It's a nice enough song, but don't think it would be competitive at Eurovision. Not like Butterflies, which if Fairytale never existed still could won Eurovision for Norway that year.

I don't think it's a Eurovision winner though, it very much gives me "what would Why Am I Crying by Molly Sanden sound like in 2020" and it's this. Not to say it's not a fantastic song, I've been playing it a lot.

Yeah I think one of the internal selections is going to come along and win, but like Liam said earlier in the thread, "Attention" puts me in the mind of "Undo" slightly so I think it could push for as high as 3rd.

I wouldn't have thought Raylee would be a random pick, I know her song was released in week 1, but it's miles ahead on Spotify.
This would be my top 4 as well, but I wouldn't begrudge 'I Am Gay' going further.

A jury deciding the top 4 feels like a bit of a farce (this is why they should still have a televote alongside an online vote) but who cares when the winner of Eurovision 2020 was chosen regardless!
This could be the 4th or 5th time that Norway end up as my #1 since 2008 (and Rybak is NOT one of them) *.
