It’s time. Following the massive success achieved with their latest singles “King” and “Shine“, the members of Years & Years are ready to impact the radio waves with another one taken from their acclaimed debut “Communion“, released on July 10th.
The next and sixth overall single taken from album is the song “Eyes Shut“, which was written by Olly Alexander, Emre Turkmen and Michael Goldsworthy, and produced with the collaboration of Mark Ralph.
The touching piano-ballad is scheduled to impact radios in September (at least in Germany) and it’s without doubt a very strong and emotional choice perfect for the autumn season. Now we can only hope that “Gold” is the following.
Besides, the band is also promoting a special Gryffin Remix of “Desire“, one of the main themes taken from the forthcoming electronic deejay based movie “We Are Your Friends“.

Excellent news! I actually wouldn't be surprised if their team took on board the 'Eyes Shut' love on here and in other forums and subsequently changed plans, because didn't Olly say in an interview that they wouldn't release a ballad/'Gold' was pretty much confirmed as the next single anyway?

I can see this strategy working out very well in keeping the album high in the charts over the coming months. biggrin.gif

Flawless choice wub.gif This will surely be huge?? Certainly deserves to be!

I could see this being as big as King for them. Especially with an X factor performance - which is just wishful thinking at this point.

A pleasant track. Not one of my personal highlights from the album, but that aside, a pretty obvious single choice (and wise choice in terms of keeping album sales going strong). Likely another huge Top 5 hit for them

Oh yes! I'm not surprised it's the next single, after seeing how well it's done without radio airplay! I think/hope this could be a big 'Beneath Your Beautiful' style hit if it was to be performed on X Factor this year (although I won't hold my breath).

I hope this smashes either way though. It'll be a radio staple for a while I imagine!

My theory is that they're waiting until closer to X Factor, for a live performance biggrin.gif

I'm really not liking this. sad.gif It's the type of bland ballad Sam Smith would do.

I wish he'd ditch the blonde as well.

Lovely video.

The song is by far my favourite thing by them. Just a beautifully written ballad! <3

I literally cannot wait to snog that boy again in October. #2DayAfterparty

^ yawn

Video is really great. And the song is still one of those rare moments where I actually enjoy a ballad. Such a simple but beautiful song.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 28th September 2015, 06:36 AM

I'm literally obsessed with this band.

Posted by: SeanGrey 28th September 2015, 07:34 AM

Am I one of few people who isn't obsessed with Olly Alexander? huh.gif

The video is great! The song is my favourite of theirs now also, PRAYING it becomes a huge hit.

Posted by: AdamAloud 28th September 2015, 03:22 PM

Absolutely love the song still but I'm not feeling the video.

I doubt they'll get an XF performance... even with Simon's gay agenda this year.
