I kinda hoped Slaven would find his way back to manage an English team at some point....hopefully he'll do well with West Brom….

Nottingham Forest have sacked manager Martin O'Neill, replacing him with former France international Sabri Lamouchi as their new head coach.

O'Neill, 67, won two European Cups with Forest as a player and returned to the Championship side as boss in January.

Lamouchi, 47, has managed Ivory Coast and Rennes and is Forest's 13th full-time boss in just over eight years.

That's a poor way to start the season, they are setting themselves up for failure by destabilising the club like this. I personally hope Huddersfield don't come back to the Premier League anytime soon.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 18th August 2019, 01:03 PM

Siewart had done nothing at all in 8 months to suggest he's a competent manager. They've been just as bad in this division as they were last season.

My predictions are usually well off lol.

Just think they've lost a lot of good players!

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 18th August 2019, 03:08 PM

They've spent years successfully replacing their best players, don't see why that'd stop, especially as they're now shopping from a more proven lower risk pool of players. Jansson hardly a downgrade on Konsa, signed a more consistent keeper and the likes of Mbuemo, Valencia and the two Dane's are really highly rated

Two of Derby's players drive home pissed after a night out and crash, causing the club captain to injure himself for the rest of the season. Great to see them in chaos and glad no one innocent was hurt.

At least they've got Wayne Rooney arriving soon to inject some moral standards into the club.

Lawrence, 25, and Bennett, 23, were arrested after a crash in the city on 24 September and are due to appear in court on 15 October.

Barnsley have parted company with head coach Daniel Stendel following a run of 10 Championship games without a win.

Posted by: Mack. 8th October 2019, 06:10 PM

Nothing confirmed.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 8th October 2019, 06:32 PM

Stendel has been massively f***ed over. I know they have a Brentford-type model but you can't sell the keeper, both centre halves and centre forward of a title winning team and expect to compete when you're strategy is to sign untapped potential. I did still think he'd have them better than they are, but he's a good coach that will go on to do good things.

The Championship side has not revealed how big a percentage of wages are being deferred but said it was "considerably more than has been reported".

Blackburn Rovers players and the senior management team have agreed "significant" salary deferrals in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

The first team, executives and senior football management team will defer between a third and a half of monthly salaries between 1 April and 30 June.

Championship clubs hope to gain government clearance for a 25 May return to regular training, as part of plans to resume the 2019-20 season.

It is understood a target restart of 6 June has been discussed but clubs still anticipate a more likely 13 June date, in line with the Premier League.

Clubs will still be promoted and relegated from the three divisions of the English Football League if seasons are ended amid the coronavirus crisis.

Play-offs will also be played, but with no more than four teams.

The EFL has confirmed that 51% of Championship, League One and League Two clubs need to agree for the campaign in each division to be curtailed.

This could pave the way for the League One season to be cancelled, with teams currently split over a resolution.

Players at Championship clubs were allowed to return to training on Monday - the first step towards the potential resumption of the second-tier season.

On Friday, the English Football League provided safety protocols and guidance for clubs to follow upon their return.

Players took part in non-contact sessions and trained in small groups.

A total of 1,014 Championship players and staff were tested for coronavirus towards the end of last week, with two people testing positive.

Reading's first-team players are to defer "a substantial percentage" of their wages for three months to help the club deal with the financial fallout of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Championship season is set to resume on 20 June, more than three months after it was suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The EFL said the date was "provisional" and "subject to the strict proviso that all safety requirements and government guidance is met".

There are 108 matches remaining, plus the play-off semi-finals and final.

Season-ticket holders at Championship clubs will be able to watch their team's remaining regular-season games online, the EFL has announced.

Access, via the iFollow service, will be determined by the club with which the supporter holds the season ticket.

It "may be in lieu of a refund or part of a wider package as determined by each individual club".

The arrangement includes any of the 30 regular-season games involving their club being shown by Sky Sports.

None of the remaining 108 games will be shown on free-to-air television, while watching a stream of an individual Championship fixture via iFollow will cost a non-season ticket holder £10.

West Brom and Fulham both struggling today!

Yet all the teams at the bottom end of the table either won or managed a draw. Another win from Wigan! They were dead and buried 6 games ago but they’ve went on quite a run winning four out of their last five and not conceding!

Also 12th are 3 points behind 6th! It’s going to be incredibly close

A technical issue hit the streaming of Championship games, prompting some fans to miss the start of the first matches back after the coronavirus pandemic.

With games having to be played behind closed doors, the English Football League enabled clubs to stream them.

Fans expressed frustration on social media after being unable to log in to some clubs' iFollow service.

The EFL said the service was restored within 15 minutes and apologised to fans "for the inconvenience caused".

An EFL spokesperson said: "We unfortunately experienced a small disruption at the start of today's 3pm fixtures that affected approximately eight clubs.

"The issue was a result of an overload on servers at our streaming partners who resolved the matter within 15 minutes of the kick-off and supporters were then able to enjoy coverage of their respective matches. "

Well it’s certainly looking likely when you look at the form of Brentford in comparison to WBA. Another 3-0 win against Reading has put them 2 points behind WBA who play Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow, which I don’t see them winning! Brentford also have a superior goal difference too!

Leeds v Luton
Wigan v Stoke
Are currently in action but current standings

QPR 50
Reading 49
Birmingham 49
Wigan 48
Charlton 46
Stoke 44
Middlesbrough 44 (Play Hull 2nd)

They will. The only question is whether it applies this season or next. If they finish in the bottom three without a deduction (meaning it wouldn't punish them at all), the points will be deducted at the start of next season.

Administrators acting for the Latics have said the club is 'finished' if funding cannot be found to get it through to the end of the season after its Hong Kong-based owners pulled out.

English football has been "disrespected" by the "tremendous shock" of Wigan going into administration, says EFL chairman Rick Parry.

The future seemed bright for the Championship club when they changed Hong Kong-based owners a month ago, but last week's revelation of their financial predicament has resulted in a 12-point deduction, which has yet to be officially applied.

The administrators have said the club have appealed against their punishment, but if upheld, it could see them relegated.

Aleksandar Mitrovic marked his return from suspension with a first-half penalty before Josh Onomah crashed home a second for the hosts after the break.

The Bluebirds have lost back-to-back games and will be leapfrogged by bitter rivals Swansea City if they can beat league leaders Leeds United on Sunday.

Surely Wigan can kick up a fuss about this as originally their deduction was next season but they changed their minds the final game of the season

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 31st July 2020, 06:52 PM

It will be Charlton that would kick up a fuss, although they're also in a state with no one quite sure what's happening with ownership so may not fight it. Barsnley said they would fight any penalty applied next season in the event of them being relegated.

Wigan's deduction was always going to be applied this season. A points penalty for administration is only applied in the following season if the club are relegated the season they go into admin, they couldn't finish in the relegation zone with about 3 games to go so was always going to be applied to the final table

I'd have liked to see Brentford come up too, but congrats to Fulham.

I cannot see how Fulham do not go straight back down again. Sure fire relegation certs for me.

Isn't that what most people thought about Sheffield Utd? tongue.gif

Fulham will have the money to invest, hoepfully on defenders this time around. They'll certainly have to play better than they did tonight but there's still a lot of mediocre teams in the Premier League. Are they that much worse than Brighton, Aston Villa, Southampton, Everton even?

Gutted Brentford didn't go up as they're my championship club but well done to Fulham and Scott Parker he's done an amazing job this year. It's def not the same Fulham as came up last time though they have a more solidity and steeliness to their play if anyone watched their games this year. The tactics in the final there were an example of that, spot on to counter the Benrahma threat.

If lamps went to Chelsea after losing the playoff last season surely Parker is in line for a top 6 job now?!

The season starts in 5 weeks. I just can't see it myself, they are already at a negative advantage.

They're worse than all those teams currently. All those teams are mid-table and Villa aside, I don't think any will be in a deep relegation battle come the end of the season.

With teams like Fulham, West Brom, Norwich it feels like getting promotion just for the sake of it, just because they happened to be in the top 2 or in the play offs at the end of the season only for them to get relegated back not too long after. It must be hard to get your head around going up and down so frequently, I remember Birmingham used to be like this as well years ago until their most recent relegation kept them in the EFL leagues.

Now Fulham, don't go and spend £100m on players and get relegated.

Real shame about Brentford not getting promoted, it may be their best opportunity for a while to get promoted to the Premier League.
