Probably about to be my worst result yet, but I love doing the results by the date of the song and who sent them!

Still fascinated by the phenomenon that is 'Plastic Love' randomly getting stuck in the YouTube algorithm, moreso than I am actually a fan of the song really but it was nice - Iz sending the normiest of the Asian entries though
Surprising that there were so many entries older than Rollo's Enjoyed the Daryl Hall track, was one that grew on me as it went along iirc. |

Laura Branigan - Shattered Glass - Qween Qween sent this little known number by the 80s singer best known for the English language cover of the song, Gloria, a big hit on both sides of the Atlantic. This one was certainly less so, recorded in the days where she was somewhat less relevant with the help of SAW, it only reached 78 here. It's a rather nice 80s stomper though x QUOTE 12 Aqua 10 Vanessa Paradis 08 Lenka 07 Ace of Base 06 The Asteroids Galaxy Tour 05 Jane Child 04 Plumb 03 Sister Sway 02 Michelle McManus 01 Emma Pollock 32 Jane Child - Don't Wanna Fall in Love 28 Exposé - Point of No Return 28 Vanessa Paradis - Be My Baby 24 Ace Of Base - Happy Nation 23 Judith Durham - The Olive Tree (Jade) 21 Aqua - Back to the 80s 18 Lenka - Trouble is a Friend 16 Daryl Hall - Dreamtime (King Rollo) 16 Killer - Liar 15 Mariya Takeuchi - Plastic Love (Izzy) 15 Laura Branigan - Shattered Glass (Qween) 13 Robyn feat. We will check in with one of the leaders now in 1987 with the release of the first game in what would become one of the most famous video game franchises of all time. |

Oh wow thanks so much for top marks, Rollo loved your entry (gave it 7 points) although I am a fan of what I know by Hall & Oates, so I did hope for good things.

John already sent another Laura Branigan song to BJSC so no surprises there!
A pretty solid top 5 so far for the most part. |

Expose - Point of No Return - J00prstar If the last song was a moderate 80s stomper, this was a certified banger. I heard this years ago but could never put a name to it so thank you Jupiter so saving me there x This was a small hit that was re-recorded in 1987 with a new lead vocalist. It's also apparently been used in Drag Race lip sync, whatever that entails x QUOTE cheers, heres mine: +12 Plumb (this really was a great rediscovery! I remember listening to this on the radio) +10 Tilly & the Wall (another throwback I remember from 1st time round. They were a folky group with a few albums under their belt before this became a pop hit!) +8 Laura Branigan +7 Goldfinger +6 Four Below Zero +5 Michelle McManus +4 Aqua +3 Mariya Takeuchi +2 Emma Pollock +1 Killer ty for hosting! 32 Jane Child - Don't Wanna Fall in Love 28 Exposé - Point of No Return (J00prstar) 28 Vanessa Paradis - Be My Baby 25 Aqua - Back to the 80s 24 Ace Of Base - Happy Nation 23 Laura Branigan - Shattered Glass (Qween) 23 Judith Durham - The Olive Tree (Jade) 20 Plumb - Real 19 Tilly And The Wall - Beat Control 18 Lenka - Trouble is a Friend 18 Mariya Takeuchi - Plastic Love (Izzy) 17 Killer - Liar 16 Daryl Hall - Dreamtime (King Rollo) 14 Four Below Zero - My Baby's Got ESP (Original 12" Mix) (Ansel) 13 Robyn feat. O.C. & Rahzel - Show Me Love (QD3 Fat Boy Remix) 13 Emma Pollock - Adrenaline 12 Little by Little - Kanashimi wo Yasashisa ni 10 Perfume - Electro World 08 PIPO ANGELS - Merry Go Round 08 The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - Around the Bend 07 Damaris - Tusuykusun 07 Sister Sway - Until You Saved My Life 07 Goldfinger - Superman 07 Michelle McManus - Emotional 05 Clout - Save Me (kth) 04 K-Otic - I Surrender J00ps was one of our early leaders and could still be in contention, he avoids too much foot shooting at this early stage, fellow 80s pop song, Laura Branigan particularly benefits. Let's now check in with the current leader, as we enter the 90s at 1990, where the first fully fossilised Tyrannosaurus Rex was found. |

The reason I chose my track was almost singlehandedly down to this Drag Race lipsync! I think they both do a good job tbh Good guess leww! |

Jane Child - Don't Wanna Fall in Love - Riser Riser sent this one-hit wonder from the quirkily styled singer. This song was a big hit in the US, but stalled in the UK due to the singer refusing to appear on Top of the Pops due to her seeing it as a sellout. It's my favourite fun fact of the contest, I don't know if Jordan knew that but I kinda love it (cool song too x) QUOTE 12 Robyn feat. O.C. & Rahzel - Show Me Love (QD3 Fat Boy Remix) 10 Lenka - Trouble is a Friend 8 Plumb - Real 7 Tilly And The Wall - Beat Control 6 Four Below Zero - My Baby's Got ESP (Original 12" Mix) 5 Aqua - Back To The 80’s 4 Emma Pollock - Adrenaline 3 Daryl Hall - Dreamtime 2 Vanessa Paradis - Be My Baby 1 K-Otic - I Surrender 32 Jane Child - Don't Wanna Fall in Love (Riser) 30 Vanessa Paradis - Be My Baby 30 Aqua - Back to the 80s 28 Exposé - Point of No Return (J00prstar) 28 Plumb - Real 28 Lenka - Trouble is a Friend 26 Tilly And The Wall - Beat Control 25 Robyn feat. O.C. & Rahzel - Show Me Love (QD3 Fat Boy Remix) 24 Ace Of Base - Happy Nation 23 Laura Branigan - Shattered Glass (Qween) 23 Judith Durham - The Olive Tree (Jade) 20 Four Below Zero - My Baby's Got ESP (Original 12" Mix) (Ansel) 19 Daryl Hall - Dreamtime (King Rollo) 18 Mariya Takeuchi - Plastic Love (Izzy) 17 Killer - Liar 17 Emma Pollock - Adrenaline 12 Little by Little - Kanashimi wo Yasashisa ni 10 Perfume - Electro World 08 PIPO ANGELS - Merry Go Round 08 The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - Around the Bend 07 Damaris - Tusuykusun 07 Sister Sway - Until You Saved My Life 07 Goldfinger - Superman 07 Michelle McManus - Emotional 05 Clout - Save Me (kth) 05 K-Otic - I Surrender It remains to be seen whether Jane can keep up this momentum or stall like she did in the UK, but she holds up for now with a narrow lead, Vanessa Paradis and Aqua are her nearest challengers. Speaking of, time to go to 1992 with one of the most glorious and joyful animated films of all time and part of the Disney renaissance... |

J00p serving a banger shocker! (and good taste from Drag Race apparently)
edit: enjoyed Jordan's entry a fair bit as well, I seem to have gravitated towards a lot of the older songs as I think like half of my votes and a couple more near misses have been unveiled already! |

Vanessa Paradis - Be My Baby - Tafty Tafty/Jonjo sent what is our only top 10 hit in the contest from the French singer best known for her hit as a child, Joe le Taxi. This was her first English Language single and was written by Lenny Kravitz. Not a cover of the Ronettes song x QUOTE 12 Points: Lenka - Trouble is a Friend 10 Points: PIPO ANGELS - Merry Go Round 08 Points: Girlicious - Like Me 07 Points: Michelle McManus - Emotional 06 Points: Goldfinger - Superman 05 Points: Little by Little - Kanashimi wo Yasashisa ni 04 Points: Laura Branigan - Shattered Glass 03 Points: Aqua - Back To The 80’s 02 Points: Perfume - Electro World 01 Point: Plumb - Real 40 Lenka - Trouble is a Friend 33 Aqua - Back to the 80s 32 Jane Child - Don't Wanna Fall in Love (Riser) 30 Vanessa Paradis - Be My Baby (Tafty) 29 Plumb - Real 28 Exposé - Point of No Return (J00prstar) 27 Laura Branigan - Shattered Glass (Qween) 26 Tilly And The Wall - Beat Control 25 Robyn feat. Next up, our first leader of the night, found in 1993, the year of the nation's cutest stuffed animals... |

Great entries there from J00p and Jordan! The former got my 10 points and was my favourite total discovery (as I knew the chorus of 'Happy Nation' at least via a YouTube clip )

I did think my entry would be fairly obvious as there weren't many other songs that had my sort of sound to them. |

Ace of Base - Happy Nation - Addy! Addy sent this under-the-radar release from the Swedish pop group. It gave me really strong new age and Enigma vibes, the first verse is sung entirely in Latin and it was worked on by Jonas "Joker" Berggren who attempted to write the song in response to the reports of his associations with neo-nazi skinheads as a positive, hymn of life. QUOTE 12. Perfume - Electro World 10. Tilly And The Wall - Beat Control 08. Exposé - Point of No Return 07. Vanessa Paradis - Be My Baby 06. The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - Around the Bend 05. Aqua - Back To The 80’s 04. Damaris - Tusuykusun 03. Lenka - Trouble is a Friend 02. Laura Branigan - Shattered Glass 01. K-Otic - I Surrender 43 Lenka - Trouble is a Friend 38 Aqua - Back to the 80s 37 Vanessa Paradis - Be My Baby (Tafty) 36 Exposé - Point of No Return (J00prstar) 36 Tilly And The Wall - Beat Control 32 Jane Child - Don't Wanna Fall in Love (Riser) 29 Plumb - Real 29 Laura Branigan - Shattered Glass (Qween) 25 Robyn feat. O.C. & Rahzel - Show Me Love (QD3 Fat Boy Remix) 24 Ace Of Base - Happy Nation (Addy!) 24 Perfume - Electro World 23 Judith Durham - The Olive Tree (Jade) 20 Four Below Zero - My Baby's Got ESP (Original 12" Mix) (Ansel) 19 Daryl Hall - Dreamtime (King Rollo) 18 Mariya Takeuchi - Plastic Love (Izzy) 18 PIPO ANGELS - Merry Go Round 17 Killer - Liar 17 Emma Pollock - Adrenaline 17 Little by Little - Kanashimi wo Yasashisa ni 14 Michelle McManus - Emotional 14 The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - Around the Bend 13 Goldfinger - Superman 11 Damaris - Tusuykusun 08 Girlicious - Like Me 07 Sister Sway - Until You Saved My Life 06 K-Otic - I Surrender 05 Clout - Save Me (kth) We see a bit of a bellwether set of votes here (apart from their 12 which they are charitable too) as many contenders gain points, Lenka holds on but Aqua, Vanessa Paradis, Exposé and the newly contending Tilly and the Wall are hot on her heels. Next up, 1997, the year of the the first cloned animal ;o |

I still own hundreds of Beanie Babies. They must be collectively worth literally tens of pounds.
Great choice from Addy, I'm no huge fan of the other Ace Of Base tracks I've heard but I really liked this one, loving the new age influence. |

Robyn feat. O.C. & Rahzel - Show Me Love (QD3 Fat Boy Remix) - Vibe Robyn was probably one of the most eyebrow raising artists here but thankfully, it's a very obscure remix of one of her less memorable hits (maybe as it always gets confused with Robin S' Show me Love). It's certainly very on brand for the 90s. QUOTE Fav Around The Bend Dont Wanna Fall In Love I Surrender Real Happy Nation Emotional My Baby’s Got ESP Dreamtime Back to the 80’s Saved My Life The Olive Tree Plastic Love Least Fav 43 Lenka - Trouble is a Friend 42 Jane Child - Don't Wanna Fall in Love (Riser) 40 Aqua - Back to the 80s 37 Vanessa Paradis - Be My Baby (Tafty) 36 Exposé - Point of No Return (J00prstar) 36 Tilly And The Wall - Beat Control 36 Plumb - Real 30 Ace Of Base - Happy Nation (Addy!) 29 Laura Branigan - Shattered Glass (Qween) 26 The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - Around the Bend 25 Robyn feat. Still in 1997 next, the release of the first book of a quite popular franchise about a certain boy wizard? Easily forgotten x |
