@ArianaGrande
Replying to @sweetenerlilly
yes
Omggg YAS
Huh is the 'Raindrops' snippet we got the entire song?
Excited!!
omg excited!!!
I'm excited about this!
Is this gonna be her Judas in America?
I thought 'Raindrops' was always confirmed to be just an interlude? It's stunning too
wait i thought god was a dj
Produced by Max, thank god it aint another Pharrell track
This is coming tonight/tomorrow!
Really think this is gonna be a BIG single / moment for her! So excited to hear this.
Friday 5am
Oooo, It better be good and be released with the video for that new rule!
Iirc I'm pretty sure Ari tweeted the video is coming tomorrow as well *.*
So hyped for this cos it's produced by Max <3 god is a woman is coming to rebuild my hype that the light is coming stole *.*
Yaass a week early *.* Can't wait, I have every faith this will be incred as it's back to Max Martin.
I wonder why they brought it forward
I wonder if Gaga IS releasing next week and they dont want her hype to swallow it up, maybe?
She's saying it was "always" tonight Idk if she's just being coy about what might be coming up.
Omg I love It!! YAAAASSS!!! Definately on par with No Tears.
THE GOSPEL CHOIR AT THE END MY LORDDDDDD
This is everything she needed after TLIC tbh, it's a HIT. It kinda sounds like a bang on trend Drake #1 but if a big pop girl did it, it's got flecks of a lot of the highs of Dangerous Woman while still progressing. The beat is amazing, the vocals are sultry, the lyrics are sexy *.*
oh my god she is 3 for 3 I am shook
B O P
This is doing absolutely nothing for me. Really not liking her style this era.
I've only listened twice but it's not doing much for me either.
Yeah I'm really disappointed with this so far 😭😭
I’m not that keen on this either on first listen. Hopefully it will be a grower.
I've been so excited to hear this, but I can't listen until this evening.
What sort of sound is it?
well it’s sort of melody and hook free isn’t it? which is kind of shocking for max martin
i don’t think it’s a ‘hit’ at all? i can’t imagine this being played on the radio at all
quite underwhelming.
Also joining the "Meh" bandwagon after a few listens im afraid
I mean its a damn sight better than TLIC but I was just waiting for it to GO OFF.. and it just didnt?
but j it’s totally tuneless; i’m all for ariana being more experimental and going out of her comfort zone but this is monotonous and stands up to nothing.
if you are going to foresake melody and tune you have to have character and sway behind you but this feels more like a studio experiment gone awry....
I'm trying to remember the tune after hearing it 4 times and I keep singing "God is a woman' to the tune of Bed.
Woah, not the reaction I was expecting! Hope it will grow on you all. Just finished work and I'm already on my 3rd replay on my home. I can imagine it being a Khalid collab and I'm loving him atm.
I enjoyed it but it's my least favourite of the 3 so far.
I really like it and I defo prefer it to 'The Light Is Coming'.
I love it!! Was so nervous listening seeing the comments but it’s been instant with me in the way No Tears was so I’m hopeful for the album being good now after disliking The Light Is Coming.
Don’t understand the hate at all!
This is great, what are you guys on?
This is such a great follow up to the 'Dangerous Woman' sound. So f***ing good.
Expected the worst from the comments in here, but it's so good imo! She's really pulling out all the stops for me this era.
Really not getting the hate here It feels like she is carving out her own sound this era rather than just taking an easier route of like an album full of Into Yous (not that that isn't a towering pop bohemoth of untouchable proportions) and Manchester ballads or whatever.
Aww I'm pretty underwhelmed by this, I'm really hoping that it'll be a grower because I love the other two songs we have so far.
01. no tears left to cry
02. the light is coming
03. God is a woman
it’s a grower.. stick with it
Great video but WTF at that screaming part!!
Surprised to see such a mixed reaction in here! Love this <3
OMG that video is her absolute best video to date. Absolutely STUNNING
She is not playing at all this era visually
A VIDEO
Omggg it's stunning, so much to take in so I'm gonna need a few more watches
11/10 No Tears Left To Cry
10/10 God is a woman
05/10 the light is coming
Madonna does the monologue btw *.*
amazing video omfg
Just..WOW at the video ! It's really added a different dimension to the song, absolutely loving it
the song is very R&B early-mid 00's tune amped up a little - the video is obviously epic by definition too, i do feel that it's overcompensating and i can't help but feel the era atm is a bit kіtchen sink with her trying to capitalise on her previous big era, with her thinking of how to top it. the fact she's a very subtle individual, singing middling urban songs, with 'epic' videos, it's all a bit dichotomous.
Really really good!
She is really smashing it with the videos this era too, spectacular.
that video is giving me everything i am in LOVE
honestly everything this era is 11/10 i am genuienly obsessed
This is era is smashing from left and right
The video is a masterpiece.
Apart from the gophers.
Wow at some people rating this lower than the godawful TLIC
Anyway this is great! Not on NTLTC level, but a really smooth urban-pop jam. Max Martin really can do anything
Another amazing song!
Video is good but the marmots are whatever they are and the speech are a bit annoying. I hate breaks in MVs.
its worth noting that this is max written but it’s produced by ilya.
I can’t wait to see the behind the scenes of the video if there is one. So many things I’m thinking how did they do that. Totally mind blown by that video. Visually stunning.
Okay yes this is an almighty grower... I'm sold after listen 3 *.*
This song is a masterpiece. The choir at the end really sells it. Some of the scenery in the video is stunning. My fav. is the lighthouse with the waves splashing at the end.
That video is incredible. That's how you use green screen to great effect.
The song keeps growing. Amazing.
I just watched the video and... oh my god. She is smashing it.
It feels like she’s trying to show us that she IS the main pop girl, and rightfully so.
I was a bit unsure on first listen (simply because it wasn't what I was expecting, so it caught me off guard) but I was feeling it more and more with every subsequent listen. Then the incredible video came along! It's so captivating (not sure about the screaming gophers though... ). The video lifted the song even more - and I'm really loving it now.
The screams actually frightened me
I quite like the song actually It has quite the ethereal vibe to it but like ‘No Tears’ it’s taken me a few re-listens for me to fully start enjoying it.
Is this actually the title??
Oops.
She might have just ruined her US career. You knke what they are like over religion and patriarchy.
Just heard this and it is AWFUL
That part with the screaming gophers in the video is actually really quite unsettling. I don't get it.
I'm coming round to the song (always do this after hating a song :')) but WHAT a video *.*
Could someone please explain the marmot bit?! I wasn't ready Hahaha!! The end scene is a little cheeky, that'll cause a stir.
I didn't like Drag Race at first but that wasn't my real opinion.
3rd highest Spotify debut for a female behind Taylor Swift's Look What You Made Me Do plus No Tears Left To Cry! 3.7m plays worldwide.
SHE. DID. THAT. 👏
Officially in the highest tier of the pop ladies now.
This song is such a grower. I was a bit underwhelmed on first listen but it is a TUNE. Apart from 'The Light Is Coming' which is trash, I've really enjoyed everything from this era so far.
3/3 for me but this is by far my favourite. The buildup to the chorus is divine 🤤
TLIC was a worrying moment but this is incredible.
Video/song/everything
Michael, is the concept of a song growing on somebody completely alien to you? For goodness sake, you're even worse than Trump.
I love this more & more each time I listen to it (look at me, I've been brainwashed...)
The video is spectacular too, by far one of the best I've seen this year I think. I love the gophers (? no one actually seems to know what these things are which is quite funny) and reminded me of this
Also Madonna imitating God reciting a verse from the bible made famous by Samuel L Jackson in Pulp Fiction will probably be one of the most iconic moments of the year
Amazing song and video once again! This era has been such a triumph for her already. All three songs are 10/10 for me <3
Ok sorry this is up there. I love it so much
This is smashing already
Up 8 places to #9 on U.K. Spotify
Up 3 places to #5 on US Spotify
Up 6 spaces to #4 on Global Spotify
To be fair I really like the song now and am glad it looks to be another big hit. My one minor issue with is that I wish there was something to build up to the choir at the end, it comes in so quick it feels like an afterthought. I'd have loved a moment of silence before it came crashing in for example.
I really liked it on the first listen, but it just grows and grows in my affections each time I listen to it.
This woman is Queen right now.
yeah it's clearly a grower. liking it a bit more now.
This is a third disappointing song in a row from her. Such a lacklustre and plain song.
This era is sailing by on hype alone and the music is just so pedestrian.
#4 in the UK this week.
Amazing
Hopefully a new peak in the coming weeks though!
Im glad it reached high its amazing that the first two singles from last era reached #17 and #14 and the first two reached #2 and #4
Great debut! Hopefully we will see it climb like the smash it deserves to be. The Light Is Coming re-entered the chart also at #93, year of our bitch gorl!
It feel down to 10 today hope it recovers!
#12 this week in the UK. Up 1
Should climb next week however and go back top ten
Girl SLAYED her VMA performance last night! The choreography was everything and I loved that she brought her mum and nonna out at the end Really sold the song to me as well after really not 'getting' it before now.
That was everything!
Absolutely incredible performance!
WHAT A SUPERSTAR
AMAZING
WOW the performance was amazing
this and the iTunes/streaming performances HAVE to be enough to take this to top 10 on Billboard
The song has an explicit symbol on iTunes when it doesn’t have any explicit lyrics
It's because of the theme of the song.
God is explicit
Late but that VMAs performance was everythinggg. she's got so much more star quality about her these days (remember when the 'Problem' video came out and the common opinion was that Iggy was the star of that show? *_*) and I can't get over how spot on her live vocals are there. This is currently spending a second week at #1 on my Personal Chart so I think this is one of the biggest turnarounds I've ever had with a song
VMAs performance really was something Glad that it made the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 too, #8 peak *.*
Late to the scene but this song is amazing from her.
Her best music video.
And a fantastic song too.
I'd actually say one of her most underrated tbh. I was suprised it wasn't #1, but I guess people weren't ready for the religious references.
I wouldn't have expected this to go to #1 if 'Tears' couldn't, but I still adore this so much. It's infinitely better than anything from the new era anyway.
I think this has now overtaken 'Love Me Harder' as my favourite Ariana song. SO GOOD.
I think this might be my favourite from her too.
Definitely her best visual.
Also on a random note this was performed on the voice uk tonight by a male contestant.
The performance was Ok as far as covers go. It felt strange hearing a Male take. The chorus did change to I’ll believe God is a woman though.
False alarm earlier as Ariana tweeted about the 1 year anniversary of this a day early and then deleted it but nowww it's been a year of this masterpiece
Ariana reminding us how incredible the visuals for this single were on her instagram today
Can't believe it's been a year since this already. :0
Great tune but I haven't revisited as much as the other singles of Sweetener.
1 year wow! I remember not being sure on this at first but it quickly wormed its way up in my affections, particularly that final chorus
This was the most instant sweetener track for me. I instantly adored it.
The video is her all time best visual as well.
The song is a total 10/10 too! My second favourite Ari track ever.
I think that performance is my favourite ever Ariana awards show performance tbh.
The whole package just worked and it really showed how far she’d come as a live performer being able to captivate and command attention from the audience. I was blown away when I first seen that as she’d always impressed vocally live but sometimes looked quite scared when doing things like choreography but this changed all of that.
For me it's the performance I go back to watch most often, so good!
Yeah it has so much replay-ability factor 'thank u, next' on Ellen is another recent fave.
In other 'God is a woman' news, a lawsuit has been dropped against the music video. https://pitchfork.com/news/ariana-grande-god-is-a-woman-music-video-lawsuit-dropped/
The reason? Well, this similarity to a painting during some scenes in the video...
Happy 2nd birthday to this incredible package *.*
Surely that's a trick question, where are the gophers x
it’s actually not on that tweet but I think she looks really beautiful in the shots where she’s stood outside a door
Honestly feels like longer than 2 years. To think Camila Cabello nearly had this!
2 years! I remember the day after it was released, me and a few friends getting pissed on prosecco in Brockwell Park and playing it from the speaker.
I still love it. It's WAY better than anything she's done since, that's for sure.
I agree- she hasn’t topped it since. Only Into You tops this ever for me from her
Ariana has belatedly acknowledged this *.*
Erm, okay, where did THIS come from a mash-up with Ava Max's 'Belladonna'
(that thumbnail is pretty horrifying x)
Her mouth in that thumbnail
(Belladonna *.*)
Happy birthday to my favourite Ariana song
