HATECHART 2020 | #05-06

5 163 Cardi B ~ WAP (feat. Meghan Thee Stallion)
6 151 Drake ~ Toosie Slide

It wouldn't be a Hatechart on Buzzjack without Drake and indeed he is in the top 10 again with what was his biggest hit of the year in 'Toosie Slide'. Criticised from day 1 for being an obvious attempt to pander to TikTok kids (one that ultimately worked) with its dance instruction chorus and for having a fairly minimalist beat. The song eventually made its way to the UK #1 spot albeit only because Blinding Lights was on ACR. Starting the top 5 is one of the most controversial songs of the year which was widely hated or loved across the internet depending on where you looked. Even on Buzzjack it caused an argument or two. With it having lyrics more explicit than any other UK #1 single in history and a very minimalist beat it isn't surprising that it wasn't to everyone's taste really, although I quite like it. The song had a whopping seven sets of +18s in the Hatechart, the second-most of any song this year.

HATECHART 2020 | #03-04

3 233 6ix9ine and Nicki Minaj ~ Trollz
4 180 Pop Smoke ~ Mood Swings (feat. Lil Tjay)

Pop Smoke became one of the biggest rappers of the year with his debut album scoring him many hits. Unfortunately he wouldn't live to see any of this big success as he was killed at the age of only 21. His biggest hit and ultimately his most hated on the forum was 'Mood Swings', a track that was helped considerably by TikTok to overtake his other charting hits. Likewise with 'WAP' the overly sexual lyrics probably didn't help its case here and the singing voices of both artists involved are I suppose an acquired taste. I'm not a fan of it but I'm glad it didn't quite make it to #1 here as the top 3 are a lot worse. We don't quite get a top 2 of 6ix9ine as 'Trollz' finishes in 3rd, albeit with a much higher points total than Pop Smoke. It also means Nicki Minaj avoids topping the Hatechart for a second time by association. The song became one of the lowest selling US #1s ever but over here it thankfully missed the top 10. It's not quite as obnoxious as 'Fefe' or indeed 'Gooba' which is in the top 2 but still not a song I ever want to hear again. It means we have a 6ix9ine vs Justin Bieber race to the top of the Hatechart.

Ahh Mood Swings really should have won this. What a pile of garbage that was made worse by its incessant pollution of the top 10.

Trollz was meh but the ee ee ee ee parts were catchy.

Don't care who wins from the final 2 as I like both songs. Would prefer GOOBA of the 2 if pushed.

Toosie Slide should be higher, it's really Drake at his worst ever
he's at the same level as Derulo right now, trying to get TikTok hits biggrin.gif

The "winner" of this year's Hatechart is...

sarcasm.gif #01. 6ix9ine ~ Gooba [294 points] sarcasm.gif

So there you have it, Buzzjack's least favourite song of the year goes to 'Gooba'. It is 6ix9ine's second "winner" of the Hatechart following 'Fefe', and does so with a bigger points total than that had, scoring nearly 300 points! This includes no less than eleven sets of +18s, which alone would've put it in the top five. It is perhaps 6ix9ine's most obnoxious 'song' to date with him going all-out shouting and trolling for his comeback release. He put this out very quickly after being released from prison, managing to give him his biggest chart hit to date peaking at #6. Despite this, Radio 1 refused to play the song on the chart show. We can only hope it will be his last proper UK hit and that he has gone away for good this time after a big flop of an album.

"Commiserations" to...

#02. Justin Bieber ~ Yummy [249 points]

Taking the runner-up position this year is Justin Bieber. His comeback was anticipated by many, with new music being craved ever since he made a couple of actually decent songs in the mid 2010s. However the hype evaporated just as quickly when the song actually dropped on the world, starting the year of 2020 as it meant to go on by being absolute rubbish and one of his worst songs yet. The song thankfully didn't make it to #1 despite his best efforts, and once again it stalls at #2 albeit on a chart he perhaps doesn't want to be so high on.

So there you have it, that's the end of the 7th yearly Hatechart. See you again next year with another batch of mouldy pop and rap. jump.gif

I'm surprised WAP was as high as it was! Then again it has been inescapable and bound to wind some people up. I'm glad a 6ix9ine track made it to the top. Hopefully Trollz will be the last we hear of him!

I'm surprised WAP wasn't higher seeing that seven sets of +18s.

By the way, 6ix9ine deserved to win this. On the other hand, Yummy is not really that bad.
