In the US, it seems that various big songs/acts have been locked out of the primary singles chart for much longer than they have here. But they have all those interesting genre-led charts that kind of make up for it a bit. However, our genre-based charts are absolutely full of ancient songs. I know people on here know more about this than me, but should we have better new music-themed genre charts like theirs and is there any chance of it happening? It's a bit crap when you load up our indie, rock and dance charts or whatever and just see loads of overplayed songs that came out 300 years ago. Fire away!

The main US chart though is slow. Like even slower than ours. I wouldn’t want our UK chart to follow Billboard Rules.

The main issue our charts have though and probably Billboards too is playlisting issues. People stream what they know and it’s often hard for them to move on from long running hits.

^The biggest issue the US have is airplay, that slows the charts, not playlists

Yes, I've thought for a while we need new genre charts for new songs only.

I'd also like songs older than a few years banned from the Top 100 and a Catalogue Chart started

I don’t like the current U.K. chart system. Many songs are just staying around way too long in the charts and newer artists find it hard to breakthrough. Nowadays, the norm is for a song to stay 8/9 weeks at no1 but this gives a distorted picture compared to the pre-streaming era.

remove playlisted tracks, tracks played as part of an album (it's an album sale) and exclude all tracks which have been a hit over a year old from streaming sales as it's most-likely the same people playing the same tracks. Similar to the US, once they drop out of the top 40 they stay out unless they have substantial increases in sales & streaming. That would stop the Xmas invasion of the same records every year cos we ALL know it's largely down to xmas playlists on the streaming sites who order the songs in the order they think they are popular (or want to push their own latest xmas exclusive), with the final positions jostled about a bit by itunes sales - frinstance Leona Lewis is big on sales every year, not so big on streaming.

I mentioned Perry Como to my 20-something family yesterday, to which nobody had any idea who he was, yet his xmas tracks chart every xmas so it's likely that generation isn't CHOOSING to stream them (based on my small sample ) they just get bunged high up the xmas streaming playlists ahead of The Wombles who never chart

^I agree that if you stream an album it should only count for the album charts, not for the single charts
but with playlists, I think we should differentiate passive vs active streaming, but I wouldn't ban it either, I'd use different ratios
I'd also put caps instead of ACR, that would definitely hinder Xmas songs, if you've streams 1875 times already Mariah, it shouldn't count

Problem is if you banned playlists streams altogether, Spotify sales would be so low it might be meaningless :/

One thing I poor about our charts is the three track rule even though at times it looks stupid a song going 5- out top 100 - back top ten next week.

But it beats the days of people having their whole album in the top 40 for weeks on end.

I hope we never add radio to our charts as well! There’s certain things about both charts I like though.

I quite like how New Zealand solved that particular problem, where only 2 new entries per artist are permitted per week, but songs don't ever get starred out once they're in.
Would also be nice if the OCC would actually differentiate between singles and albums streams too which would also lessen the impact of album bombs.

the way they count album streams really needs sorting, it's silly that you stream an album and it also counts for the singles chart
and moreover, that you streams random songs from a playlist and it also counts for the album charts
+ the mess that is greatest hits, you stream Elton john-Sacrifice from his Sleeping with the Past album and you also give a streaming point to his Greatest Hits, why?, makes zero sense
