News is starting to come through now about the next BRIT Awards, which will take place again at The O2 in London. The confirmed date is Saturday, 2nd March 2024.
What we know so far:
Criticism of the Best Artist Award not featuring any female artists appears to have been addressed as the shortlist will increase from 5 to 10 nominees
Best International Artist will increase to 10 nominees
R&B will have its own genre category after being combined with Pop last time
The Award has been designed by Rachel Jones

Oooh I quite like that design
glad r&b is getting it's own category, it being lumped in with pop never made sense to me.
Oh thank god R&B is getting there own category , loved that they actually listened to the complaints about that !
Both good changes there (although the fact they ever thought it was acceptable to put pop and R&B together as a single category was always questionable).
Mo Gilligan has stepped down from hosting as he'll be on tour in the US.
I am happy for rhythm and blues.
This year's BRITs Rising Star nominees are The Last Dinner Party, Caity Baser & Sekou.
That's surely a shoe-in for TLDP!
Maybe the first time there's ever been a Critics' Choice / Rising Star nominee that I have literally never heard of. (And one I wish I'd never heard of x)
Not massively excited about The Last Dinner Party either based on the 2 songs I've heard from them, 'Sinner' is pretty good, not keen on 'Nothing Matters'.
The Last Dinner Party have won the Rising Star category!
Yay great news!
BRITs Week is back for 2024, a series of concerts in aid of War Child. More info https://www.brits.co.uk/news/brits-week-24-for-war-child-lineup-announced.

I would be so upset if I won a Brit and it was one of those ugly designs! Stick to the classic silver one nothing beats that!
Nominations will be revealed on 24th January at 4pm on social media platforms with Yinka Bokinni
Kylie is reported to be performing a “mashup of greatest hits” - including ‘Padam Padam’ - potentially as part of the BRIT Icon Award or whatever there’re calling it nowadays.

I can't call this year much at all. Usually there's one or two standouts, but I feel like in general, it's been quite an open field the last 12 months. Obviously the biggest talking point in the industry was Taylor's 'ERAs Tour' and the subsequent releases of 'Speak Now (TV)' & '1989 (TV)'. The latter being the most successful TV to date. Will 'Midnights' be in this year too or did that get all it's nominations last year, icr what the cut off point was for that album/era. But will she even get international artist or will they opt for Miley or Noah?
Best British Album is an open playing field too.
I think four of them will be:
Blur - The Ballad of Darren
J Hus - Beautiful and Brutal Yard
Lewis Capaldi - Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent
RAYE – My 21st Century Blues
I guess other contenders could be The Rolling Stones, Maisie Peters, Nothing But Thieves & Jorja Smith - but I'm not confident on any of it!
Raye very much deserves her flowers tbh so I hope they don’t play in her face like the Grammys did !
Crazy that we have news about Kylie performing but nothing else (host, noms...)
A few predictions:
Album
Blur - The Ballad of Darren
Jessie Ware - That! Feels Good
J Hus - Beautiful and Broken Yard
Olivia Dean - Messy
RAYE - My 21st Century Blues
Artist
Anne-Marie
Ed Sheeran
Jessie Ware
J Hus
Jorja Smith
Lewis Capaldi
Maisie Peters
Olivia Dean
RAYE
Tom Grennan
Group
Blur
D-Block Europe (unfortunately)
Gorillaz
Nothing But Thieves
The Rolling Stones
Possibly Take That instead of Gorillaz. Sleep Token are my wildcard choice.
International Artist
Doja Cat
Drake
Hozier
Kylie Minogue
Lana Del Rey
Luke Combs
Miley Cyrus
Olivia Rodrigo
SZA
Taylor Swift
International Group
Boygenius
Foo Fighters
Gabriels
Maneskin
Paramore
Possibly Metallica or Blink-182 instead of Maneskin or Gabriels.
Best New Artist
Ezra Collective
Holly Humberstone
Lovejoy
The Lottery Winners
Ren
I have a feeling RAYE will do really well and win even artist and/or album, it'll be a big moment for her too. Hopefully she performs too!
I will be very surprised if they don't nominate Miley. 'Flowers' was waaayyyyy too big a hit to ignore.
Also, I'd really like to see Troye nominated somewhere. He deserves it after having a big year himself.
I know it won't happen but I want Doja Cat and Troye performances. I need Doja to get some UK TV exposure to show how good a performer she is to the casuals over here.
Live now! Not a fan of the host
How on earth has Firebabe been nominated?
Mahalia and RAYE nominated for Best New Artist?
Mahalia got a Best Female nomination 4 years ago!
Calvin Harris has been nominated for Best Pop Act and not Dance Act… right
Meanwhile Chase & Status are nominated for Best Group, but not Dance Act too.
The highlight from what I’ve seen so far is Caroline Polachek being nominated for International Artist
Raye received 7 noms after releasing an album that spent 7 weeks on chart? I mean I like her, but...
RAYE a new artist?!? Made You Look for int'l song of the year???!!! 15 songs in a single category>?!?!?!?!? the BRITs are such a mess (love them still). so happy for RAYE
Oh wow Young Fathers - ‘Heavy Heavy’ one of the AOTY nominations 😍
RAYE being up for Best New Artist is absolutely ridiculous, debut album release or not and it's lazy of them to have her down for both Pop and R&B, and Calvin for Pop and Dance. A couple of other artists could've received a little recognition in those spots.
Firebabe sneak
Otherwise nothing too surprising. Glad Kylie got an International Artist nomination!
Raye getting recognised and the getting the most nominations is so deserved , she better sweep !
Wonderful for Barry Can't Swim and Caroline Polachek *.*
RAYE's breakthrough and the story behind it is quite inspiring so I can see why she's nominated for so many, correct or not. Shame about the Genre awards though, that's so lazy having the same artist up for both categories.
Is it quite likely that RAYE will be performing on the night? Maybe launching a new single?
Not a single nomination for Pink. So disappointing.
Have the full list of performers been revealed?
boygenius <3 hopefully they win best Int'l band
also love the nomination for Lana for int'l even though it will be 100% SZA, but i'm ok with it
the rest of nominations are a big mess my gosh
and total snub for Lewis
Lol at it still being called 'Best Hip Hop/Grime/Rap' Act, when grime doesn't make the UK chart any more and hasn't done for years, its drill now.
Incredible for RAYE
Also really impressed at the noms for Young Fathers, Boygenius and Caroline Polachek!
Can’t quite understand some of these nominations.
Happy that Raye is getting recognition and her long awaited flowers. Maybe a BRITS performance could help push those album sales further too. (she’s not a new artist though but those other nominations are deserved). I think she could even get album too since there wasn’t a massive British album last year and Lewis isn’t nominated or Ed?!
Artists getting nominated without dropping an album as well (what is the criteria to be nominated you just need to have released a single) it’s hard to keep track
Nice to see females represented though.
Nice for Kylie getting a international artist Nod. Wow at RAYE up for so many but you can't say it's undeserved. A year she's had!
Annoyed that Nothing But Thieves got nothing… :/
I think by brits logic Raye counts as a new artist as she only just put out her first album
no clue there
It's crazy because there are ACTUAL new artists that could be nominated.
Here's how I *think* it'll go down:
Best New Artist: RAYE [2nd Olivia; 3rd PinkPantheress]
Best Artist: RAYE [2nd Dave; 3rd Central Cee]
Best Group: Young Fathers [2nd Chase & Status; 3rd Blur]
Best International Group: Boygenius [2nd Paramore; 3rd Foo Fighters]
Best Dance Act: fred again... [2nd Becky Hill; 3rd Calvin Harris]
Best R&B Act: RAYE [2nd Mahalia; 3rd Sault]
Best Alternative/Rock Act: Bring Me The Horizon [2nd Blur; 3rd The Rolling Stones]
Best Hip-Hop/Grime Act: Central Cee [2nd Dave; 3rd J Hus]
Best Pop Act: Dua Lipa [2nd RAYE; 3rd Calvin]
Best International Artist: SZA [2nd Lana Del Rey; 3rd CMAT]
Best International Song: Noah Kahan [2nd SZA; 3rd Jazzy]
Best Album: RAYE [2nd Young Fathers; 3rd Blur]
Best Song: Dave/Central Cee [2nd Dua; 3rd RAYE] *They like awarding performers so I can't decide between Dua & Dave/Central here, but I imagine Dave should win but wouldn't be surprised if this is the one they gave to Dua*
The genre categories are fan-voted, so I'll be very surprised if Bring Me The Horizon don't win Alt/Rock.
Same with Dua Lipa for Pop.
Ohhh I will make some amendments based on those then. Thanks!
Daily Mail are reporting that Sophie Ellis-Bextor is performing Murder on the Dancefloor at the BRITs!
Resurrect the Outstanding Contribution to Music and give it to Sophie!
Speaking of weird 'Best New Artist' nominations, I think Dave takes the biscuit for this...
He was nominated for Breakthrough Act/New Artist in both 2018 and 2020! That passed me by at the time.
Does that mean all new British artists are so awful that they have to nominate the old ones to keep it at least relevant
^Yes It is well known that in the past they had problems reaching 5 nominees in some categories
Think we all knew it would be happening but nice to see it confirmed!
ICE CREAM MAN. Plz x
Watch it be Escapism
Hope she'll do Prada in some form.
Voting for the genre categories is open now via Instagram! You can vote via commenting on their specific posts, and the winners are already looking fairly clear.
Alt/Rock: Bring Me The Horizon
R&B: RAYE
Pop: Dua Lipa
Dance: Becky Hill
Rap: CASISDEAD
I do wish it wasn't a public vote for those, Becky Hill already won the award twice - Fred Again and Calvin Harris had huge years so one of them really ought to take it but clearly Becky has a more mobilised fanbase..
Not sure I like the fan vote awards. Becky Hill is gonna win the Best Dance act award every year as no other dance act has the fan base who'll be voting every day.
Becky will have 3 Brits in as many years, whilst Calvin only has 2 over 10+ years.
Is that so? I would have imagined Fred again has more fans than her since now his records can debut top 20, which is something she can not dream of... even Calvin I'd say has more fans... I wouldn't put Becky as someone with a fanbase...
Becky is also the only one campaigning, telling people how to vote for her on her Instagram story.
Fred, Calvin and Barry haven't posted anything about voting being open (yet), whereas Romy has just put it on her story.
Our hosts confirmed!
Clara Amfo, Maya Jama and Roman Kemp
Ridiculous that the awards can be voted for 🙄
I'm glad it's only the genre categories (of which I've voted this evening in) as I can imagine the stans ruining some of the other categories. I think they know what they doing by allowing the genre awards to be public voted as it limits but still allows for public interaction. It's no different to the NTAs for instance but there every award is public voted and no one bats an eye at that.
Boring perhaps but they're solid presenters so it'll less likely be a cringefest like it has been previously.
Very proud moment for Kylie and extremely well deserved.
Congratulations Kylie.
Two new performers announced! Jungle and Rema.
Rema???
Well nobody will tune in for them, that's for sure.
I’d love for Dua to do a medley of Training Season and Houdini like she did at the Grammys
Becky Hill and Chase & Status confirmed to perform together.
That means she’ll perform Disconnect. I hope she turns it into a medley and includes Never Be Alone
Award shows aren't my thing at all unless Paramore are up for something so consider my interest peaked x
Boygenius will no doubt get best international group though smh
I still think there should be best female anf best male. The music industry is so male dominated anyway, with women's music often looked down on compared to the male indie bands, that it's faieer, and doubles the winners, which csn only be a good thing ina celebration of music?
They can double the nominees all they like, but one of the 5 male acts will win, seeing as they eere what they nominated foe it in the first place!
Hope they'll announce The Last Dinner Party as a performer soon.
I’d rather Calvin performed with Rag'n'Bone Man instead of Ellie to save his latest single from flopping. Hopefully, he turns it into a medley and bring him out too
Tate McRae announced as a performer! Kind of unexpected, but so happy - she's amazing live.
I wonder if Sophie Ellis-Bextor and The Last Dinner Party will perform a mash-up. Didn't she cover them on Live Lounge recently?
I can do without Rema performing on Saturday and RAYE being nominated for new artist when she’s been on the scene since 2016
It would've made sense to keep the previous name 'Breakthrough Act' as at least then the nominations fit the name?
Mahalia has also been around since 2016, Olivia Dean since 2018, PinkPantheress 2020 and Yussef Dayes 2016 too so let's not solely drag RAYE through the dirt here when only one act in the category debuted in this decade.
Chase & Status will receive the Producer of the Year award
Yes it was David Guetta that won last year. Fatboy Slim presented the award to him.
However I don't think Fred again in 2020 or Inflo in 2022 went up to get their awards perhaps because they weren't there. I'm assuming because it's no longer a nominated category that if they're not in attendance then they won't be presented the award on stage.
RAYE has been awarded her first win for Songwriter of the Year announced today
I think Producer of the Year is generally not be acknowledged on the TV broadcast unless it's a big artist (I remember Calvin Harris having the award presented to him on air once iirc?) - I guess C&S probably will have it presented especially as they're obviously there to perform.
Songwriter of the Year was introduced 2 years ago but it's another one that doesn't get publicised as much and doesn't have a shortlist. Ed Sheeran and Kid Harpoon won it the last 2 years.
Today's the day!
Red Carpet - 7:30pm on ITV2
Main Awards Show - 8:30pm on ITV
Confirmed Dua Lipa is opening the show and Kylie Minogue is closing it
Still think the BRITS should bring back the Outstanding Contribution award for certain people who have been influential but long overlooked (Kate Bush, Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Raduiohead - How the hell did Pink get one over any of them?).
You could award it just before the newer Global Icon award so you get a big name semi-contemporary performer (like Kylie) to close the show.
Not that I’d doubt that the label bought the award for her, but people are so quick to do down Pink at any given moment. To have still been relevant that far into her career as a solo female is an outstanding achievement and plenty of artists have been influenced by her. Just because you think someone else deserved it first doesn’t mean that she didn’t deserve it.
At the end of the day, it’s another round of music snobbery.
I am not working in the industry and don't have the insight in that sense, but award shows always seem to me like big puzzles - who is active, who is not, who is available, who is not, who is willing to actually put on a performance and who is not.... Who knows how many options the BRIT organization go through each year.
What baffles me is that they seem to have gap years with these "lifetime achievement" awards for some reason. There are plenty of stars out there who DESERVE it (like the ones Severin mentioned).
Loving 'Training Season' at the moment great track to kick off the show with.
Surprised Dua only sang Training Season! Was expecting at least a snippet of Houdini!
Dua Lipa kicking off the ceremony with a very on point performance.
I’m surprised she performed just that. I was expecting her to sneak in Houdini or DTN. Shame she didn’t perform IDGAF in 2018 when it was a strong contender for #1
'Escapism.' is easily my favourite song from that list - happy for RAYE!
2/3 of Green Day! Random
Lovely win for Raye and she was genuinely heartened with her win.
Clips of 'I Saw' by Young Fathers on mainstream tv *.*
Big win for Jungle.
I thought Blur may have taken that award.
Seems like Lydia is an official member of Jungle now, she’s been appearing in their press shots for the last few months too.
Great acceptance speaches from the first 2 winners of the night.
That Samsung “circle to search” feature looks completely pointless.
I wouldn’t be too upset for an escapism reset tbh
Also miracle sounding very good tn! Ellie looks gorgeous too
Ooh Calvin’s bringing the remix out!
'Miracle' remains pretty banging and I liked the remixed switch-up of the production
the presenting is falling a bit flat for me so far
Yeah, I much prefer comedians hosting.
The audience don’t seem that lively either.
RAYE sweeping so far get your flowers queen
The audience is very reserved.
It's already a huge night for Raye even she doesn't win in any of the other categories.
Rayes win showing how wrong record labels often are.
Caroline Polachek
Surprised that SZA won thought it'd be Kylie by virtue of her being there
Go on BMTH! The guy from Young Fathers didn’t look happy lol.
SZA a shock win.
I had hopes for Kylie but expected Taylor Swift to win.
Tate is a brilliant dancer but what was going on with the vocals, she just gave up at some points
Brits have taste and guts to deny awards from Taylor Swift lol
Taste for sza winning!
also tATE McRae shame she didn’t sing a medley with exes tho
Great to see Djo present the award! Perhaps he’ll be winning this time next year…
Love RAYE but what a joke her winning best new artist was rooting for PinkPantheress there, she was even in the building.
Getting a little boring with Raye clearly going to sweep the night.
Raye should not have been in that category
I don't feel Raye should have been in the category for new artist as she is around for a while now.
I wish Clara had solo hosted
It’s like they knew it was a weak year for nominations, so needed to get publicity some other way and made it a record breaking night for RAYE
Raye sweeping the board tonight.
That Tate McRae performance was an embarrassment.
15 years from now people will look back and be like wtf why did Raye win all those? It's not like her success is on Adele levels, neither commercially nor critically.
Charli XCX get that brief 'Von dutch' promo
Not Becky Hill
I thought it would be 3 years in a row for Becky Hill.
CASISDEAD is brilliant, unexpected but great win.
Casisdead!! Love an underdog.
Neil Tennant features on his album and is quite synthy, some here might actually like it
Cassisdead winning
Clara is such a good presenter, she could have managed this solo. Roman isn’t a natural presenter imo, he’s very wooden tonight
God this is awful all round, Dua doing a new song not a hit so started off dead as the audience didn't really know it. The presenting awful, horrible tacky things like doing shots. Tate whatever her name was absolutely awful. Raye talking about how she has been releasing music for 10 years winning best new artist.
It is just so flat and bad. Raye winning everything because absolutely no one else bothered to turn up and they need an angle for the papers tomorrow.
Very happy Dua Lipa won the award.
Ah, an actual RAYE loss now 'Houdini' was one of my favourite pop songs of last year, so g'won Dua I guess
Dula peep
Reggie & Bollie
I feel like there should be a rule you can only be nominated in one genre, half the pop noms had been nominated in other genres already. Surely they can find enough artists to fill out each without repeating. Raye and Calvin for pop was just daft.
BoyGenius was always going to win that award.
Funny how RAYE hates Prada yet she performed it
I was half expecting D-Block Europe to come out then, thank god they didn’t.
Lol not 'Prada' in that medley *_* otherwise, she was fabulous x
Great performance but Raye got a long slot.
Raye just always gives me budget Amy Winehouse vibes.
behave, Raye absolutely killed that she is one of the best live performers out there, absolute slayage
I just hope that Prada doesn’t get a reset
RAYE killed it as usual! I’m surprised she started with ice cream man, I’m sure wishful thinking but I’d absolutely love that to register another chart entry!
So glad to see Chase & Status return to mainstream success! I wouldn’t have predicted that even a couple of years ago.
Rema is coming for a reset
Becky always brings the vocals!
Becky Hill is like your drunk auntie at a wedding getting up to sing, sounds like she smokes 40 a day. Does her voice always struggle that much?
Dance Alone by Kylie and Sia getting its few seconds of airtime there.
Raye thinking WTF am I going to say on my next acceptance speech. Poor woman, even she seems embarrassed now.
With that I think RAYE has broken the record for most wins in one night?
The New Artist Award is a bit of a strange one, should have went to someone else, in my opinion.
Murder on the Dancefloor
Flowers is the deserved winner from that category but her video recording was odd.
At least Rema’s live band is making this song slightly more tolerable.
I’m actually really enjoying this performance perhaps I should check out the original song again haha.
Not the biggest 'Calm Down' fan but that performance was actually one of the better ones tonight, comes alive well on stage
As much as I’m over calm down, I’m glad they switched it up a bit for this with the live band! It sounds great live this way!
Rema was actually decent, I'm a bit in shock
Completely removing the little suspense that was left by bringing him out!
I’m so happy this album is getting its flowers, one of my favourite albums rver! Not like it was a tough competition tho oop
Bringing out her old teacher has just made the whole night feel a bit fixed.
I did not expect Raye to win so many awards.
This Raye sweep feels so random. She hasn’t exactly dominated this past year
I've not bothered with the BRITs for years, and tonight's just been a good reminder why. I like RAYE and she's a decent artist, but this (almost) complete sweep across the board is so odd. The goodwill towards her seems to have so much momentum more-so because of her story and the journey to get to where she is/was with the release of My 21st Century Blues, and not purely the music itself.
Bring it Kylie
Kylie time
How many more times are the presenters going to mention Raye.
Releasing music for 10 years
The Brits: here, have the best new artist award
!!!!!
Although we are talking about the cwremony that made up and rhen unceremoniously, deleted an award, just so that 1D could win an award one time. That was in return for them performing on the night, of course
I can’t get you out of my head to reset as well as padam pleaseeee just for iconicness sake
I’ve only just realised that CASISDEAD always wears a mask, that makes sense I thought he looked a bit uncanny!
Kylie sounded very ropey but she has the hits and seems genuinely nice.
Kylie is such a down to earth and humble icon.
I like RAYE, but her clean sweep just feels so manufactured and a reaction to media backlash. Best Album? Really?!?!
Raye deservedly swept . Escapism was literally everywhere worldwide and her breakthrough is not only inspiring but deserved !
Raye breaking records tonight.
Could we see quite a big impact re her album on the albums this week? I think it could get a lot of curiosity listens of the back of this and perhaps a sales boost too even a small sales boost would be enough though?
I do think she’s in a great position at the moment though regarding good will around her. I think if she follows up this album fairly soon (say early next year or even late this year with the first single) she could be in for quite a big sophomore album.
I forgot until I saw someone mention that Escapism didn’t chart at all for a while after it released, until it took off on TikTok.
I wonder where her career would be if that never happened!
It’ll be interesting to see the ratings for this tomorrow, I suspect they’ll be the lowest yet. Hopefully someone will post the ratings from the last few years to compare.
That was one of the most boring BRITs I've ever tuned in for, but I did really enjoy RAYE and Rema's performances (surprisingly so for the latter, I do like 'Calm Down' but I didn't expect the performance to be anything particularly interesting), Kylie was a good closer too. And tbf there were a few quite surprising award winners with most of those being pleasant surprises - thank god Becky didn't just get handed the dance award a third time in a row, was also happy with the wins for Bring Me The Horizon and SZA + nice to see a real curveball win from CASISDEAD although I'm not familiar with his music, it's just good to know they do sometimes give awards to completely unexpected people. RAYE winning Best New Artist is definitely questionable (out of all the winners of that award since 2016 the only one who had a top 75 hit before RAYE was Dua Lipa...!) but the nominee list for that was a trainwreck in general to be fair. I think all of her other awards were well deserved, I mean I'd have given AOTY to Young Fathers but that was never going to happen, her album was still very good.
The lowlight of the night (aside from the many completely flat attempts at humour from the hosts) had to be that terrible performance from Tate McRae - yes she's a good dancer but it's like she kept completely forgetting she's supposed to be a singer? Still love 'greedy' as a song but that performance did not sell it at all.
The same industry that rejected Raye in the first place is now rewarding her - you cannot make this shit up LOL
Anyway, great for her and I like her, but like I wrote earlier in this thread, the whole thing will look very odd in the future. And I wrote in the sales thread yesterday that the UK music industry needs new superstars. Dua, Ed and Adele cannot carry the whole industry on their shoulders forever.
God the hosts were absolutely awful. Those flat and continued attempts at humour had me cringing so hard
I do like Raye but from the noms it was 100% clear the industry had decided she was gonna win it all
Don't think her album deserved it
But biggest Lol had to be Raye performing Prada
I suggested she was gonna do it and someone laughed saying she hated the song lol
Just watched Becky Hill and Chase & Status performance, and I love that they invited the guy from C&S Boiler Room as a backup dancer
Well, that was a Brit Award ceremony I guess....
Unsurprisingly I have to agree that the hosting was not great this year, but that's pretty normal for the Brits. 'Escapism.' winning song of the year at the beginning was a decent start (although, it was predictable when RAYE had so many nominations), easily my favourite from the category by a long way. I didn't really know who was going to win best group (except for Headie X K-Trap) but Jungle's last album was great to very deserved (I think I would've preferred Chase & Status or Young Fathers tho). I'm impressed with RAYE's sweep but it does get a little boring when the same artist is continually going back and forth to the stage. Still kinda peeved about RAYE winning best new artist (I know this is like a career rebirthing for RAYE but she could've easily been nominated for it between 2018-2019 imo, same for Mahalia) but if she stopped Olivia Dean from winning it then we're good x. Dula Peep winning Best Pop from only releasing three singles, our flop kween delivered (she always gives a good speech as well)! Calvin winning Best Dance is a better result than what I thought would occur in that category but I fear everyone (bar Becky Hill) deserved the award more than him oop. Nice to see BMTH's first win, I really liked 3/4 singles they released last year but I think I would've preferred to see Young Fathers get the win (they looked pretty sad whenever they lost an award ). Underdog Casisdead getting an award was unexpected and expected for me at the same time I knew he had quite a dedicated fanbase so I'm sure they would've been constantly voting every day for this win (I still would've preferred to see Simz or Dave pick this one up). SZA winning was a huge shock but I'm over the moon for it, a much more deserved winner in comparison to Miley Cyrus or Taylor Swift's works in late 2022-2023. Boygenius winning is pretty cool but Miley winning best song (I understand why tho ofc)
Dua's opening performance was solid! I'm also wondering why they didn't squeeze in 'Houdini' but nvm. The performance of 'Miracle' fell a little flat for me at first but the addition of the Hardwell remix towards the end picked up the pace for the better. Tate McRae & Jungle delivered pretty unmemorable performances oop. Tate performs 'Greedy' like that whenever she performs it unfortunately, I really don't like that style of singing two lines and then skipping six. An unremarkable performance from Becky Hill as well (even 'Baddadan' couldn't save it ). Agreed that Rema's performance was actually really good! It changed from a boring and bland song to a really fun track. I think Selena Gomez is the problem RAYE's performance was by far the best tho (she even made 'Prada' sound like a masterpiece, DBE could never). I'm yet to see the full Kylie performance as I fell asleep at the start lol.
Okay, Calvin needs to credit Hardwell if he decided to release that original x remix live edit (cuz he already did, with Hardwell uncredited).
I think it's already a given that The Last Dinner Party will win Best Group + New Artist next year
Hopefully!
Just watched some bits... Kylie was on autopilot in her medley, not sure if those "straight from the ESC" costume changes were good idea.
One thing that never really makes sense...
How can Blur + Young Fathers both be nominated for Best Album, but Jungle beat them to Best Group? Surely Jungle should've had a Best Album nomination too then?
I just saw a red carpet interview with The Last Dinner Party from before the show where they were asked about St. Vincent presenting the award to them tonight - strange that it never happened in the end! Unless I missed it?
I only saw the first half of the red carpet show where Jack interviewed St Vincent but I had turned off before that finished so I can only assume it happened during that or at some point before the actual ceremony?
Wonder if Rolling Stones declined? They released a highly successful and decent new album last year too.
Yeah they are meaningless. Industey patting itself on the back
2.5m in the ratings, down on last year's 3.3m
Oof
I don’t get why they air it on Saturdays now, not that I’m certain it’d make a difference. I was out last night and the pubs and clubs were heaving and I really don’t think children and teenagers are that into the Brits these days.
I wouldn't say younger people aren't into the awards but there's certainly alternative methods of consuming the hype and results without watching the show live on TV. Social media was really busy last night discussing the results and all of the results were posted on various apps and YouTube too so it's easier to get the snippets instead of sitting through 2 and a half hours of TV. ITVX viewing figures are not included in the overnights so it may bump up slightly if people were streaming or catching up (like I did this morning).
A few points, iirc the Spice Girls got the outstanding contribution to music award as someone pulled out who was going to get it (cant remember who it was).
The Brits also used to have a rule where you had to perform part of a hit in the eligibilty period, hence the Spice Girls did Wannabe into WDYTYA in '97. Dua got the night off to a really flat start by singing a song most people don't care for or haven't heard much. Dance the night away would have got it off to a much better start.
The silly really long catwalk stage design doesn't help anyone, it is too long. A normal stage with maybe a small catwalk or not at all with a proper pit of regular fans would bring more atmosphere. Also awards given out on the main stage too.
The presenters going into the audience to annoy artists who clearly don't want to be involved in silly skits needs to stop too. It is painful.
Don't nominate people in more than one category, Raye in R&B and pop makes no sense. Her speech for her R&B award she was saying how others fought for an R&B category to show it is worthy alone to then shove her in pop to to prop up another nomination was rubbish. There are plenty of pop artists to fill it.
Kylie should have gotten her award after her performance. It was odd to have her get the award then have the presenters waffle for 3 minutes while she gets ready to perform. Have the global icon perform then someone walk on and hand them the award and let them thank everyone.
I was looking through the BRITs eligibility list, and it's interesting to see that the R&B Award covers 24 months:
I was gonna aegue, but tou're right. They abandoned music like a sack of hot potatoes the second they got market corrected.
