Ellie Goulding) - I Need Your Love 169 37 38 4 Avicii (feat. Aloe Blacc) - Wake Me Up 171 36 46 3 Ellie Goulding - Burn 175 Alas even Ellie Goulding's good year can't save one of her biggest hits continuing to get a bit sadly overlooked as Burn fails to secure an AQ along with I Need Your Love and Wake Me Up, which I'm actually quite surprised about as all 3 of those did very well in the playoff. But at least they're not Miley Cyrus. I'm no fan of We Can't Stop but even I have to wince at that fall from grace, from 5th down to 52nd in the space of a year, and Wrecking Ball doesn't do much better. Roar is also a big one out. And The Saturdays continue their terrible year with losing both of their AQs. I foresee a tidal wave of pop in 2013's first round next year. 35 NE 10 Clean Bandit - Mozart's House 177 34 60 16 Olly Murs - Dear Darlin' 180 33 15 - Foxes - Youth 182 32 48 11 John Newman - Love Me Again 182 31 16 - Demi Lovato - Heart Attack 182 30 17 - Naughty Boy (feat. Sam Smith) - La La La 184 29 37 2 Imagine Dragons - Radioactive 195 28 47 1 Duke Dumont (feat. A*M*E) - Need U (100%) 197 27 53 17 AlunaGeorge - Attracting Flies 204 26 NE 9 Tom Odell - Another Love 205 25 30 - Lily Allen - Hard Out Here 206 24 27 - Iggy Azalea - Work 208 23 23 - OneRepublic - Counting Stars 210 22 45 12 Britney Spears - Work Bitch 211 21 34 - London Grammar - Strong 214 20 18 - Zedd (feat. Foxes) - Clarity 214 19 29 - Drake (feat. Majid Jordan) - Hold On, We're Going Home 226 18 10 - Lady Gaga - Do What U Want (feat. R Kelly) 227 17 58 7 Lorde - Royals 234 16 31 - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (feat. Ray Dalton) - Can't Hold Us 238 By a whisker, Mozart's House secures an AQ, and I'm very pleased for it, such a unique and special track. Dear Darlin' moves up from last last year to also get a new AQ. In fact the qualifiers are very well spread out here, winner Need U in the middle of the pack while Work Bitch for a time was challenging for top 15. And Lorde secures her rightful place as an AQ I'm sure. Few big shocks from above as most of them fell even further but Do What U Want and Youth do make way for some new faces. 15 9 - Icona Pop (feat. Charli XCX) - I Love It 241 14 52 8 Rihanna (feat. Mikky Ekko) - Stay 251 13 19 - HAIM - The Wire 254 12 3 - Taylor Swift - I Knew You Were Trouble 255 11 12 - Paramore - Still Into You 256 10 28 - HAIM - Falling 264 9 4 - CHVRCHES - The Mother We Share 269 8 6 - Lana Del Rey vs Cedric Gervais - Summertime Sadness 271 7 20 - Disclosure (feat. AlunaGeorge) - White Noise 274 6 8 - Bastille - Pompeii 285 Another first round qualifier moving further in the bag as Rihanna's Stay comes out of nowhere to blitz its previous performances and see it off to the semis. This comes along with the two favoured HAIM songs doing even better than they miraculously did last year and the likes of CHVRCHES and Paramore repeating their wonderful performances from last year, seeing this all makes me so happy. And then I see I Love It sneak in again. I'll allow it. This time. As long as it doesn't come back to beat a fave in the semis. 5 21 - Mariah Carey (feat. Miguel) - #Beautiful 287 4 11 - Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know? 298 3 2 - Justin Timberlake - Mirrors 318 2 7 - Daft Punk (feat. Pharrell) - Get Lucky 340 1 1 - Little Mix - Move 355 Jay will be pleased. #Beautiful was actually somehow leading this thing for a while in the middle of the week, started to falter and then Jay's 25 puts it back in ahead of Pompeii. The power of Mariah hasn't faded yet. The wonderful Do I Wanna Know puts in a great performance to give the final yet another automatic indie song... while Mirrors, Get Lucky and Move feel more natural at the top, although Move's pedestal was nowhere near as stable as Euphoria's and I thought Get Lucky might take it at certain points during the voting. |

Oh my goodness, those disastrous results for Chris Malinchak and Chase & Status
On the other hand, 'Do I Wanna Know?' and '#Beautiful' going top 5 is brilliant |

Oh dear.. I much prefer the bottom 5 than the top 5, if I'm being completely honest.
Why are Burn, Youth and Hard Out Here so low? Nice to see Little Mix do well though |

#Beautiful is very underrated. On another note, its interesting how we're overall between us swinging more towards indie at the top most years, instead of pure pop. Wonder how much of that is due to it not having a huge presence in today's charts.

Wonder how much of that is due to it not having a huge presence in today's charts. 2011-2013 had a few alternative hits that tend to get a good reception here and as their votes are rather concentrated they tend to win out over all of the split pure pop. Which is how I rationalise it. It may even continue. I'm not sure though, if enough of them get through it'll swing completely the other way in the final. So pop has hope. |

Ouch at the performance of Lost & Not Found, I Could Be The One & Animals
On the plus side #Beautiful going straight to the final is very pleasing to see! |
