BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Friday Chart Predictions

Posted by: SevenSeize 16th June 2019, 04:47 PM

Sheeran & Bieber could make it five weeks at #1 on the singles chart, expect big new entries for Little Mix with Bounce Back marking their first release under RCA, and Taylor Swift with You Need To Calm Down serving as the lead-in to her upcoming album 'Lover'. There's also a double Drake release with Omertá/Money in the Grave

Huge battle in the album chart, Bruce Springsteen's Western Stars may give him an 11th number one, while Madonna chases her 13th with Madame X. Bastille follow up two chart-topping albums with Doom Days, while there's new releases from Kate Tempest and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds with the Black Star Dancing EP

it's a pity Mint Royale doesn't seem to care about the charts anymore
would be interested who's in front in albums at this stage

Posted by: SKOB 16th June 2019, 05:41 PM

Will OTR be on ACR then?

Posted by: Bjork 16th June 2019, 05:42 PM

^ Yes

Posted by: Steve201 16th June 2019, 07:28 PM

Thought it may have went back to no1 this week too as it's quite a bit ahead of Ed this week!

Posted by: lewistgreen 16th June 2019, 07:30 PM

Initial thoughts on Little Mix then? Top 20?

Posted by: Jordan Lee 16th June 2019, 07:30 PM

I think LM will enter between 7-10.

Gonna predict number 8 I think.

Posted by: timjimlee 16th June 2019, 07:32 PM

Many thanks for opening this thread early this week, likely to be an interesting one both in the Singles and Albums where I'm rooting for Bastille to do well but suspect Bruce will triumph.

Incidentally, Sheeran & Bieber have all ready made it five weeks at #1 on the singles chart and are shooting for six, looking strong favourites to achieve that at this point.

Posted by: SKOB 16th June 2019, 07:47 PM

We'll probably see IDC number one for 9 weeks until ACR kicks in.

Posted by: danG 16th June 2019, 08:07 PM

Interestingly Ed's album is to be released 12 July, after IDC has been in the chart for 9 weeks.
Presumingly the album tracks will receive huge streams so... IDC could potentially fall 1-OUT from being kicked onto ACR. laugh.gif
Let's hope for my sanity and Cody's eyes that doesn't happen.

Posted by: gooddelta 16th June 2019, 08:11 PM

I Don’t Care would surely be the most nondescript song ever to get as many as nine weeks at No.1 laugh.gif hopefully something will emerge or gather enough momentum to stop that happening, it will barely be on 50k sales a week by its ninth week.

I believe that OCC rules state the record company chooses which 3 songs from the album will be charting, so I'm sure they will make IDC one of the three.

it may be the case that the label can choose, but in the past singles have dropped out in favour of album tracks (see Ariana's 'thank u, next' falling out because of 'greedy' earlier this year) so it wouldn't surprise me if Ed's label just don't bother to make sure 'I don't care' remains in the chart.

although it is equally as likely that the song will just avoid ACR before its 9th week and it'll spend even longer at #1. hell, it may even do a 'one dance' and spend 15 weeks there due to lack of any real competition. though I suspect that another Ed album track will overtake soon enough.

The label has some choice in that the second or third best selling track (but not both) by an act can be replaced with the fourth best selling track if the label requests this but only if either the second or third best selling track is outside the top 20. In addition for the second best selling track to be replaced it has to be on ACR. Once excluded in this way a track is then ineligible to chart for a period of six months.

Literally seeing the back of everyone there....but Madonna

Posted by: Bré 16th June 2019, 10:19 PM

I think Shieber are gonna get away with getting 9 weeks at the top (and indeed possibly the most nondescript song to spend so long at the top if so but hey, it's clearly more popular than I thought it was going to end up being), which could well have been 4 more weeks for Lil Nas X if not for ACR. Of course 4 weeks is a long time for something big to come out and snatch the #1, or for a currently existing hit to take off enough to sneak in as Ed's numbers drop off, but Drake, Taylor and Little Mix all quite emphatically failing to do so this week just makes it feel like it's destined to happen.

9 weeks at #1 then dropping off the chart entirely would actually be kind of hilarious. It'll be like 2019's 'Crazy' by Gnarls Barkley although for very different reasons.

Posted by: girl_from_oz 17th June 2019, 12:34 PM

I'm hoping Tay Tay's new video sends her to number one

Posted by: SevenSeize 17th June 2019, 12:57 PM

Hoping Bastille can manage decent sales without a hit single, expecting around 15-20k

Think Bruce will take the #1 quite comfortably but Madge should still manage good sales with all the formats/versions they've released

Posted by: Medellíam 17th June 2019, 04:33 PM

Update in coming! Bruce is #1 in the albums, 16k ahead of Madonna.

Is Stormzy not releasing anything to co-incide with his Glastonbury headlining slot?

Posted by: danG 17th June 2019, 04:57 PM

I suspect Taylor and Little Mix are so high due to their strong download sales plus two of last week's top three being on ACR. They'll probably fall a little by the end of the week but should remain comfortably top ten.

A poor start for Drake but the two songs he's released aren't him at his most commercial and they don't seem to be part of a new album campaign. Again, I suspect 'Omertà' is only ahead due to download sales of the EP, and 'Money In The Grave' will almost certainly overtake by the end of the week. Shame that either track isn't doing half as well as the dull Chris Brown collab though, we really do live in a society.

Good to see Jess Glynne, AJ Tracey and Dominic Fike on the rise too, hopefully all can eventually make the top 20, and Sigala and Katy the top 10.

Not keen on the Bastille track that may make this week's top 40 (though I predict it'll fall out), they haven't released anything good in a while except for their Marshmello collab.

Surprised that B Young looks to be getting another hit, I thought he was over after 'Juice' was a huge flop. 'Gucci Demon' is decent enough, I guess.

Posted by: UltraME! 17th June 2019, 04:58 PM

Hopefully Taylor can somehow hold top 3 *.*

Posted by: Bré 17th June 2019, 05:02 PM

I feel like there must be more streaming missing than usual, LM and Taylor both seem too high and it's weird that 'Omertà' is still the higher of the two Drake tracks at the moment.

I thought Bruce would get the #1 album but didn't expect him to be that far ahead!

I actually liked both of B Young's previous top 40 hits but this new one is really tedious.

Posted by: danG 17th June 2019, 05:03 PM

Taylor is only four chart sales behind Little Mix by the way, so she should easily overtake due to stronger streaming. Could even be #2 for the week considering she has a music video out now too. Or #3 with Stormzy overtaking (much stronger audio streams)

Posted by: 777666jason 17th June 2019, 05:03 PM

Would be awesome if taylor could stay top 5 would already make it a more successful era than reputation,

Glad to see LM top 2 but likely to fall later in the week could they manage to stay top 5 though

Posted by: vibe 17th June 2019, 05:03 PM

16k ahead I was not expecting that

I thought M would be in the lead and Bruce would catch her throughout the week .

Posted by: legendsglory 17th June 2019, 05:07 PM

Do you think LM could stay top 5? I really hope so.

Posted by: Bré 17th June 2019, 05:11 PM

Surely there's no way Taylor will actually stay top 3? It's doing much lower numbers than 'ME!' everywhere. I guess the top 3 sales will be a bit weaker with 'Old Town Road' and 'Someone You Loved' going to ACR but it'd be really weird if this debuts at the same or higher position than 'ME!' when it feels like it's not done nearly as well.

Posted by: lewistgreen 17th June 2019, 05:17 PM

Ashley O in at #77 🙌

Posted by: Bré 17th June 2019, 05:20 PM

Posted by: Medellíam 17th June 2019, 05:21 PM

36,511 Bruce
20,621 Madonna

Posted by: SKOB 17th June 2019, 05:26 PM

WOW great for Madge! Shame Bruce is releasing though but hey, something over 25k by Friday is amazing

Posted by: Jordan Lee 17th June 2019, 05:28 PM

I’m happy with those sales for Madonna. I predicted 17K so she’s 3,000 ahead.

Should end the week just over 30,000 sold which is hardly a major decline from the last era.

This is also her first album to be released since streaming affected the album chart in a major way.

Posted by: Bjork 17th June 2019, 05:31 PM

great sales for Bruce and pretty decent for Madonna
probably half of those are cassettes biggrin.gif

Posted by: Medellíam 17th June 2019, 05:32 PM

For comparison, Rebel Heart was on 27,479 after 3 days of sales.

Posted by: bluebitchboy 17th June 2019, 05:33 PM

Think 20k is pretty underwhelming for Madonna tbh.

Looks like I'm wrong and sales really are just that much weaker than the last few weeks because of Lil Nas X and Lewis going to ACR laugh.gif 'You Need To Calm Down' has literally less than half the sales 'ME!' had in the first mids and yet is basically at the same position (technically one place lower but it'd be the same if it had 5 more sales). The Drake thing is still strange though but I guess that just comes down to the usual missing data in the Monday mids and 'Money In The Grave' should overtake probably tomorrow.

From what I have heard of both albums Bruce seems stronger overall than Madonna. Little Mix should be safe for top 10 debut.

But that's 3 days sales for a promoted album interviews or not plus all the formats released aswell..... I'm disappointed

Exactly

Rainbow vinyl
Clear vinyl
Black vinyl
Deluxe cd
Standard cd
Cassette

Kylie had the same amount of formats when she released last year and did 48k week one, so Madonna perhaps scraping 30k isn't exactly amazing.

Kylie had fantastic UK promo though, it wasn't all down to multiple formats.

Posted by: SKOB 17th June 2019, 06:16 PM

I wouldn't compare Kylie (UK and AUS are her core markets) to Madonna who has such a Latin and Portugal (and Brazil) focused album this time around. Faz Gostoso for instance reached #2 on Spotify in Brazil because it features Anitta.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 17th June 2019, 06:21 PM

That's really not bad at all for Madonna, I was expecting her to do 23-24k for the entire week.

Should be safe for #2 I'd say!

Posted by: Bjork 17th June 2019, 06:22 PM

lol just because someone puts out a lot of formats doesn't mean all fans are gonna buy ALL of them, sure that helps but miracles don't happen
Madonna lost her power to sell albums a long time ago, 30K in 1 week is just fine

Posted by: ThePensmith 17th June 2019, 06:25 PM

Not surprised in the least bit to see Bruce Springsteen at number one, they had copies at the till in my HMV on Saturday prominently displayed and were also playing it in store (although I mistakenly thought it was Mark Knopfler. Oops).

Posted by: Medellíam 17th June 2019, 06:32 PM

Albums to have sold 20k+ on the Monday update in 2019 (first week of release only):

55.6k Lewis Capaldi
36.5k Bruce Springsteen
31.3k Ariana Grande
30.9k P!nk
25.3k Billie Eilish
24.6k Tom Walker
20.6k Madonna
20.4k Jack Savoretti

Not to mention that Kylie’s album is 100 times better than Madonna’s awful new album... i’m a big Madonna fan but this album is by far the worst she has ever released in terms of music quality, even worse than American Life, Hard Candy and MDNA...

You agree Madame X is an awful album??

A.L was ok in my mind i not listened to it since but like all her albums there is usually some good and some not so good ( album fillers as they call them) To say Madame x is awful is untrue its arty, creative its whats inspired her not the charts She dont need hits singles but GOD CONTROL is awesome it was so unexpected upon fist listen to turn out to be a disco stomper and the subject matter only Madonna could do that!

I knew Kylie fans would revel in Madonna being #2 but it makes no sense.

Kylies album was about as commercial and pop like as you can get. Vague hints of country but it was PURE POP.

Madonna’s is the opposite of that it’s not commercial at all aside from a few songs like Come Alive and I Don’t Search I Find.

Madonna and Kylie aren’t much alike at all my opinion. Kylies like an Australian Britney to me she’s not similar to Madonna in any way.

That is mainly thanks to Maluma though. Her first solo single from the album barely has 3m streams.

At least Kylie is not alienating her actual fanbase in order to get younger ones, she releases music for her fans which she knows mostly consists of gay men and middle aged women,
on the other hand, Madonna is so desperatly trying to be relevant to the younger demographic that she keeps guest featuring any relevant rapper starting with Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Drake, Swae Lee, Quavo, Maluma , Kanye etc....that she forgot who she wants to please, she keeps repeating and rehashing the same ideas and themes over and over such as politics, christianity,sex...

Kylie is all about fun and good music, she’s the Goddess of Pop and a worldwide icon, even if she hasn’t had a huge career in the US but she’s famous everywhere else...Madonna is the Queen of Pop but in my opinion she should’ve retired right after her 2009 Greatest Hits album...

Posted by: vibe 18th June 2019, 05:36 PM

Look at all the Kylie fans getting petty.

Madonna is nearly 61 and has put out a creative masterpiece. She is setting trends by not allowing her age to define what music she releases. Chasing a younger audience is BS , she isn’t stupid. Why should she release an album full of middle of the road jams?

I’m a fan of Kylies and agree why most of your post. Not the retirement part but Madonna does try and get younger audiences on board a lot more.

Madonna’s new album is quite experimental and I wasn’t keen on the singles but there is better stuff on the album. However, golden is a far better album for me overall and easier to listen to in comparison. I prefer Kylies voice on golden as Madonna’s sounds very auto tuned.

Why are you kidding yourself? She isn't 'setting trends' she clearly isn't selling at all outside her usual fanbase.

Posted by: pippa 18th June 2019, 06:12 PM

Golden was a highly solid album by Kylie and an album i will revisit many times in the future, not her best album but it is better than some of her previous releases.
Kiss Me Once is the Kylie album that was highly disappointing and an album i felt was targeted to trying to get a new fan base ahead of serving the existing loyal fanbase.
It became clear Kylie learned from this mistake and moved on swiftly from it (also nothing from the album features on her upcoming Greatest Hits).
Madonna with her album is showing signs she is trying to appeal to younger audiences working with what is seen as relevant people in the industry and early signs are showing it isn't doing that and i am unsure has she managed to keep her fanbase happy either.
Madonna's new album i wont be purchasing as i find the style underwhelming and i am not as hung up on completing my Madonna collection as i am with Kylie.
Both Kylie and Madonna have not feared the dare to try new sounds which is why both have such impressive catalogues to their names.

Seriously Madonna is not interested in charts she's don't need the money, she loves music & has released an album of music thats influenced her over the past few years since Rebel Heart. It's brought out her creativity & experimental side again Something she's not done fur a while

Indeed. Out of all the weeks when we don't have an update on a Tuesday it had to be this week! I would have liked to seen how much more Bruce Springsteen and Madonna had sold yesterday... not to worry, we'll find out tomorrow after 6pm.

Only just checked the mids - I’m sure I’m repeating what others have said (I haven’t gone through all 6 pages yet laugh.gif ) but incredible that Bruce has such a lead, I know he’s a force in albums but really thought Madge would give him more of a run for his money in the early updates!

I like both artists, I have supported them from day 1, and grew up listening to their music, I haven't got the album yet, so I can't say if this is her best yet, but Madonna's recent output before this release has been poor, and the reviews I've been reading is probably her best for such a long time.

Its like comparing pears with peaches, fighting who is the best of the two artists in this thread topic. laugh.gif

I know there is lack of mids this week, but its nice to have discussion now and than, instead of having 4-5 pages of mid talk all week.

Wednesday Update: Top 5 Albums
1 Bruce Springsteen - Western Stars (44,139) *
2 Madonna - Madame X (24,038) *
3 Lewis Capaldi - Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish (16,734)
4 Bastille - Doom Days (13,782) *
5 Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures (7,383) *

Taken from UKMIX (who got it from Madonna Tribe).

If everything sells at the same rate, this Friday should see Bruce on 51.8k, Madonna on 27.5k and Lewis on 23k.

Posted by: Bjork 19th June 2019, 02:53 PM

Very good salesx Bruce hes gonna be over 50k
Looks like Madonna will be <30k
Disappointing for Bastille

Posted by: Wall 19th June 2019, 02:59 PM

So disappointing from Bastille. They've legit done the exact same as Years & Years. It would have been smarter to include 'Happier' on the album or a more stripped back version.

Posted by: sammy01 19th June 2019, 03:12 PM

Those are dreadful sales for Madonna, when you think how many formats it has the amount of actual individual people buying or listening to it will be shockingly low.

Posted by: Bjork 19th June 2019, 03:28 PM

^ welcome to 2019

Posted by: vibe 19th June 2019, 04:01 PM

Some of the formats for Madonna cannot count for the UK chart either . Depends where you ordered from.

Posted by: T Boy 19th June 2019, 04:09 PM

Oops I didn’t even notice Bastille had an album out this week. Is it any good?

Posted by: SKOB 19th June 2019, 04:47 PM

Amazing if Madonna can stay ahead of Lewis.

Posted by: pippa 19th June 2019, 04:55 PM

Bastille without the support of a major hit are doing reasonably well.
But if comparable to their last album it has disappointing sales.
Madonna surely is safe for Number 2 unless her sales completely stop and Lewis Capali's sales start increasing for the remainder of the week.

Bizarrely Stormzy is up to number 2 on the Singles chart although he's 15k behind Ed and Justin at number 1. Is there any reason for his climb? It seems rather random.

That's a bit of a subjective question, but yeah I think it's another decent effort from them.

He was at number 4 on Monday so something must have happened to make him climb. That said, Little Mix are down to number 8 and Taylor Swift is at number 5. I imagine it's climbing by default.

Yep, it's just those new releases not keeping up that initial momentum.

Posted by: Bré 19th June 2019, 05:27 PM

Oops at Little Mix dropping that far already, I hope they will still manage a top 10 debut.

Posted by: Djcheekymagpie 19th June 2019, 05:30 PM

Come on polo g still can not get in top 40

Posted by: pippa 19th June 2019, 06:52 PM

Since the previous update Bruce Springsteen has extended the lead.

From the previous update:

Bruce Springsteen has sold 7,728
Madonna 3,417
Lewis Capaldi 6,254

With sales of 7,304 now between Madonna and Lewis Capaldi i am starting to think Madonna will hold her Number 2 position but, with a close race.
I would greatly welcome Little Mix holding on for a Top 10 debut and not close the week at Number 11.
Are Take That top 40 in the albums?

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 19th June 2019, 06:57 PM

I think maybe Madonna can push for 30k in the end?

I'm quite pleased with that total for Madonna. I was expecting it to sell about 22K maybe in total this week so it's already doing a bit better than I had guessed.

That's a good result so far for Joy Division also wub.gif

Posted by: Medellíam 19th June 2019, 07:05 PM

I hope we get a total for Unknown Pleasures on Friday. It was automatically updated to a Gold certification in July 2013 as part of the BPI's big update for sales of 100k+ since 1994 but it's such a classic album that it could easily be close to Platinum now. Impressive for an album that only spent a week in the chart at #71, which was before the BPI tracking period.

Posted by: RobBob 19th June 2019, 11:05 PM

Hoping for a new peak for Never Really Over this week and then that it can move onto the top 10 at some point. Even #10 will do *cries*

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 20th June 2019, 02:12 PM

I was sure spice girls would be safely top 20 and possibly top 10 this week.

Posted by: pippa 20th June 2019, 03:47 PM

Spice Girls didn't receive the boost i thought they may have got but they have had steady sales and chart positions for numerous weeks now.

Posted by: ThePensmith 20th June 2019, 04:41 PM

I'd imagine the Spice Girls will get a welcome boost two weeks from now when the Greatest Hits picture disc gets released (that's still being released, right? I know they pushed back the release date to 28th June but that was the last I heard).

Posted by: pippa 20th June 2019, 05:30 PM

Madonna only sold a couple of hundred but looks safe for Number 2.
Bruce Springsteen looking at 50k opening sales which is a great outcome for the campaign.

It's archaic, ageist, misogynistic mindsets like this that make me so proud that Madonna is continuing to do what she wants with her life and not be silenced or retire from her passion for ANYONE let alone non entities and internet trolls. wub.gif

This is proof that her battle and attitude to growing 'old' on her own terms is one still worth fighting for.

What typical nonsense this thread is showing to pit two of the most successful women of all time against each other rather than celebrate their successes and differences.

And that is that. Someone with some sense has spoken.

At 60 years-old, in 2019, with an experimental album inspired by Portugal — #2 is a good result.

Can Lewis catch madge when all the streaming has been added ?

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 20th June 2019, 08:04 PM

Are we sure that something isn't amiss with Madonna here? I mean, to go from selling 4k one day to selling 800 copies the next just doesn't quite seem logistically possible.

Posted by: 777666jason 20th June 2019, 08:06 PM

Hoping TS can stay above CB hopefully she can outpeak RFI and can make this a bigger era than reputation

Hopefully LM stay top 10 but could be looking at lowest charting lead single for them

There was no Tuesday update, so she sold 4K over two days.

Bruce only did 1.9K, Madonna 800 copies, Bastille 700 copies

Absolutely! I thought Bruce would suffer with this album given it’s a covers album and seems to be pretty low key!

I dont think its the lead, they were asked if its going to be included on the new album and they said they didnt know. Its probably just the "Only You" of this album. (If its even included at all)

What you talking about?

It's not a covers album

and it's his first studio album of new material in ages

plus its been universally acclaimed by critics and fans as his best in ages

it's the opposite of low key

Posted by: Steve201 20th June 2019, 09:26 PM

LM looking like a top 10 debut and for those who think it could be 'their lowest charting single yet' if it's a good song that impacts with the public it could easily rise in the coming weeks just like that Splanlish track they released last year.

Hope 3 Nights enters the top 20 and does anyone know whether No Guidance has a chance of a top 5 finish? Also hope Summer Nights stays in the top 40.

Wonderful to see La Fontaines in the top 30 in the albums chart!

Posted by: JosephAvery 20th June 2019, 09:30 PM

Nobody thinks Bounce Back will be LM's lowest charting single yet. It's going to chart top 10 - their lowest is #22 for Think About Us earlier this year. Reggaetón Lento debuted and peaked at #5 in 2017 - it didn't climb any higher (though it returned to #5 twice).
