Welcome all to the Valiant Hall. The ultimate hall of glory in the capital. It is here that many of the most successful and beloved figures in Avian history are commemorated, in fields of sport, science, arts and so on. Neil Albatross, The first bird to set foot on the moon is commemorated here alongside many figures that have contributed to the way of life of birdkind today as commemorated and manned by the honourable roll of some of the highest prestige birds in the country, Victoria Crowned Pigeons.



It is here that it is only fitting for our final stop and to crown the winner of the 153rd Buzzjack Song Contest. We hope you all look forward to a dramatic show tonight where the winner will join our illustrious elite as our first non-Avian entry into this hall.

Going down a rabbit hole reading about Blumchen, apparently she was born in 1980 and Herz an Herz is from 1995. Impressive for a 15 year old.

It's also a cover - the original was by Paso Doble and released in 1985, just listening now and the cover is definitely better for me but there's an interesting Take On Me-style riff in the middle of the original.

I didn't really have Lookylion in mind as a winner contender this time but it does make sense - I preferred that one to St. Burbia's as far as the HAIM/MUNA-alikes go at least.

Yeah I figured these jury results were leading to a relatively early exit for Scotland 2 compared to the non-jury voters - still looks like they have a great chance to be top 3 which is great going for such a new nation!

The contest was always going to swing back to pop sooner rather than later, BJSC trends change from month to month, and depending on the voter base, competition, strength of the songs etc...

I wouldn't try and second guess too much what people might like/what genres will do best etc, it's too much of a moving target to ever get it right.

Ooh 13th is pretty great considering how brutal my jury finish was top 15 seems to be the zone for my spooky entries so far this year. Noted for next month

Congrats WoW didn't vote for the winner this time but my top 2 were the actual top 2 last time, so I'll be riding on that high for a while.

Within the top 10 I voted for FSR Rontvia, Scotland 2, Fljótavík, Kathaldazia + Cumulonimbia so 50% is pretty good going.

All these silvers for Rontvia are such CRUELTY at this point.

Congrats WoW on another win anyway - we're back to winners I didn't vote for or even come particularly close to voting for (it was ranked 30th for me, but tbf this was a really good final, I think I liked it more than I like most songs I rank that low), but after being spoiled by the last two winners I am not gonna harp on that too much!

The 2 wins club loses another transitory member - both Summericia and Lookylion getting a third winner very quickly after their second. Cannot relate!

Me being either 26th or 27th if I am mathsing correctly (most likely 27th as Spod had more votes than me from non-jury people and then got more points in the jury, which I will take as I have only finished there once before, more progress to my goal of finishing in every position at least twice lel).

That's a great top 3, Lookylion's song wasn't a massive highlight for me ngl but still a very nice song, congrats on the win! Rontvia/Scotland are excellent runners-up. Lots of injustices being done towards the bottom of the scoreboard (Singerpurear, Rolloland, Summericia especially, but tbh most of my votes deserved more), oh well. I'm pretty happy with 24th for myself as I was expecting 30-something at best! Thanks Chez (and Marcel!) for hosting a great contest with a lovely theme and presentation!

Chez, this contest has been wonderful - thank you, charming presentation and great pacing with the results. I can't thank you enough for double 18s this month and last, too.

I guess we'll see some more HAIM/MUNA style pop coming through then, had no idea those songs would prove SO popular, but it does make sense as a winner. Well done Wow on this return to form, and another winner.

Scotland 2 is such a wonderful retro entry, a German classic <3 So happy to see it top three, a hugely impressive result on their second contest.

The rest of the top 10 was really good too!

Surprised Aeroche missed the top 10, fab dance track and I don't know why what has always worked so well for them with huge top fives is suddenly now ending up in the teens.

Nice showing for Terra Avium, hitting a niche hard there to get a top 20! Great discovery.

A few favourites of mine down low, a rare miss for Summericia is a shame as it's a brilliant track. Same for Altyr, although Italian pop often seems to underperform against the odds for some reason.

Thank you to everyone who voted for My Wing, I wanted to go the polar opposite way to Voryva yet it ended up appealing to a lot of the same people, and ultimately finishing in the same position. Which gives us an absolutely brilliant run since this time last year: 2-27-4-13-DNQ-2-10-18-2-2.

ONE DAY our time will come again, but in the meantime I am eternally grateful to have had six top 10s, and four silver medals in the last 10 contests. So thanks so much for the continued support.

Happy to see Rontvia and Scotland 2 in podium as well especially the latter, you brought me back to me being a teenager and in high school.

Such a shame that Aeroche couldn't even get Top 10, not that Top 15 is bad but I thought it was one of their strongest efforts...I mean even my friends who I played it they all shazam'ed and loved it!!!

Chez, you did an amazing job with hosting so thank you. And least, thank you everyone for the points...it sucks finishing bottom 3 two times in a row lol but I guess I just have to be happy that I get to be part of the final!!!

I think I definitely now must to go to my retro roots since I already tried pop (bottom 3) and dance club anthem (bottom 3).

Blusher is a good winning choice, ik the MUNA comparison has been mentioned 50 times already but it does sound disturbingly close to something they'd release lol (good thing i'm a MUNA fan x)

I think that's everything! Before I go and lie down, let me just say thank you all for having me as a host and for the nice comments <3 I've really enjoyed this and it's been a great distraction and opportunity to use the site as a creative outlet again and it came at a good time with how hectic my real life is! I won't lie I've been planning in my head what I wanted to do for quite a while (it's been 10 years!!) and I had a lot of different ideas so I'm glad they came together.

Not a huge fan of the winner (I preferred Burbia if anything and was quite surprised this pulled ahead so much when they were quite similar sounds!), but I've had two great months so I won't complain and my 18 did come 2nd (that was quite a moment when I saw that my 18 was the same country and was 2nd yet again, it was really close at the end so I was praying for a more alt-leaning set of my votes to come in, but not to be </3). My top 2 were amazing discoveries and was hard to split them (Kathaldazia will get their turn as my 18 eventually x). I wish Botanikka had done a bit better, although it was looking like DNQing at one point so at least it made it!

I'm ofc. very pleased with 17th, that is well beyond what I expected for an eight minute folk song which I just sent cos I had an AQ, I think that's the most diverse section of voters I've had as well Thank you all very much, here's hoping my top 20 streak can continue next month with my blissful 90s Trip hop moment (*DNQs*).

Those jury votes were awful and if you take out my own votes then basically everyone I voted for was at the bottom of the jury.

BUT it was a great quality contest and I voted for all of 6th to 10th place. The winner was fine although I don't know how it stood out.

Congrats Wouter - your song almost made my votes in the semi (so was just outside my commiserations in the final).

At least my top 7 all finished higher than 28th out of 42, although many of my remaining votes deserved better, and it's harsh for Scotland 2 to drop out of the medals on a tiebreak after having such a lead at one point. I'm glad my points in the semi helped Spod and Tartford into the final.

Congrats WoW! Wow indeed at 3 wins already for Lookylion, they continue to amaze and impress me! Also amazed by Rontvia, I didn't expect 'My Wing' to contend for the win but it does have hints of 'Free Tibet' to be fair. At least the gap between the top 2 wasn't extremely close? </3

The 80s entries were all collectively robbed, maybe there was just too many of them. A lot of the bottom 10 deserved better but it was a strong contest! A decent month for pop too but aww at Renee and Gracie not quite making the top half.

Congrats Lookylion, not a song that stood out to me (HAIM sound bores me these days I'm afraid) but it's well put together and yeah last contest's winner was very much my thing so fair play - heartbroken at Rontvia second again with yet another top-class entry, I had seen Otyken around the place but hadn't considered there was a dance remix of their work out there that would really up the ante, huge huge highlight in this contest, at least it got second!

third entry of the year and third result in the 30s, but at least I'm qualifying ha! (and very narrowly too jeez I need to shore up my strategy). Quite cool at least reading through this being so far below everyone else but relatively high on the jury so I got to jump up quite far, just with a low starting point. Thank you to those who voted me though, it's nice to get points with a more traditional eurometal track.

I don't remember the winning song at all. But huge congrats to Lookylion, that's one win per year of competing so far right?

Such a shame Blumchen was leading with a sizeable margin at one point and eventually was squeezed even out of a medal position. Also fair play to Rontvia, clearly I underestimated the trance revival impact.

I'm glad Cumulonimbia sneaked in at 10. A #31 forgotten hit from 1992 (something about that year eh) is what you called an unearthed gem.

I know what I'm sending next contest and I'm ~70% confident this one will take us back into the final.

Blood juries always dragging us down

I enjoyed this edition a lot, ty Chez for the fab, inspired hosting!

I was hoping to stay top 5 after the hype in the predictions thread and on sync-tube.de, but I guess a couple of surprising snubs dragged us down in the end. Still, super pleased to bounce back into the top 10 after tanking last contest 🎉🙏

Buzzing to see Alison Goldfrapp and Cumulonimbia top 10 as well. Neliönoir way too low

Absolutely delighted with 7th for us. Genuinely thought Fever Ray would be about 25th so it's lovely when something completely outdoes your expectations by such a huge margin

Very pleased to see Art School Girlfriend in the Top 10, Is It Dark Where You Are was on repeat in '21 and I am very much loving/am here for the new singles.. only August to wait until the album.

Thank you to all those who pointed Curve, “Horror Head” is one of my favourite singles of the 1990s, I'd always wanted to share it here and felt that it was a good time now that Hatchie released a very Curve influenced single in late 2022 (and because I got beat to sending “A Place To Lie”).

Still shocked that The Dare NQ'd in semi 2, I'm reading Never Be Alone Again: How Bloghouse United the Internet and the Dancefloor by Lina Abascal rn and it feels like “Good Time” would have absolutely been heating up all those blogs and climbing the hype machine in 2005-2010, getting rinsed by MTV2 then crossing over to become a minor Top 40 hit for 1 week that broke up the usual monotony for 2 minutes (the absolute peak of this was CSS's “Let's Make Love And Listen To Death From Above” inexplicably making number 39 between Travis and Fergie in 2007). But there were plenty of highlights here still to enjoy, particularly want to s/o Colm for sending The Magnetic Fields and the beautiful “All My Little Words”.

Thanks for "Mirage" getting 12th, I was completely in it to win it this month (as it feels to me like one of the strongest things I've ever sent!) so was hoping for more but my 14th straight Top 20 hit - amazing. Really appreciated!

Wasn't a fan of the winner unfortunately but can't deny the force that is Lookylion, they know how to grab the pop girlies. Rich is back on fantastic form these days, bridesmaid four times in a year is equally frustrating and also amazing - the old guard has it. Yobdenorica (amazing stuff from them this year) and Fljótavík Top 10 is fabulous, although I'm surprised both got through the veto (I would've probably have given "Kandy" a go last month!). Sad for Neliönoir, brave stuff from them - I was going to send "HAHA" next month (which I obviously won't now) but may have dodged a bullet! Please keep entering though as I love your musical perspective.

I wasn't entirely sure how to follow up two second placers and with a 50/50 prospect of an AQ again so as it stands I think I'll take another sonic right turn. My only motto when there is the potential for an AQ is 'don't blend in'.

Already heard at least two songs I expect people to fight over, one will be fine to get through (unless too many people are after it I suppose) but the other I would imagine is a veto due to the artist's recent BJSC success.
