Hmm so it seems Joshua isn't fighting Wilder, Whyte or Fury in April.

No instead it is Jarrell Miller on June 1st.

Posted by: Seinfeld 21st February 2019, 12:30 AM

I don't see Miller causing Joshua any problems. I think Miller will do well to get past the fifth round in all honesty.

James DeGale, the first British boxer to win an Olympic gold medal then a professional world title, has retired.

Posted by: Mack. 28th February 2019, 03:46 PM

Joe Calzaghe where do you rate him amongst the greats?

Posted by: Mack. 11th March 2019, 05:09 PM

Olympic and Commonwealth medallist Anthony Ogogo has retired after his professional boxing career was hampered by a serious eye injury.

The 30-year-old has not fought since fracturing an eye socket against Craig Cunningham in October 2016.

Since turning professional after winning bronze at the 2012 London Olympics, he has also endured shoulder and Achilles injuries.

Posted by: Mack. 12th March 2019, 12:07 PM

Certainly not everyone's cup of tea was Ogogo but he can leave boxing knowing he had his own story and achieved success to an extent.

Belfast boxer Michael Conlan has been criticised after his ring entrance song in Sunday's bout in New York contained lyrics supporting the IRA.

Conlan, 27, entered the ring as the Wolfe Tones song Celtic Symphony played at Madison Square Garden.

The song's chorus includes the line "Up the Ra" and several unionist politicians have reacted angrily.

"Disgraceful that he has no regard for the victims of IRA terrorism," said DUP Belfast councillor Brian Kingston.

"Very disappointing that Michael Conlan does not follow the lead of many previous boxing and sporting heroes so that people can support him across the divide."

Josh Warrington will defend his IBF world featherweight title against mandatory challenger Kid Galahad on 15 June at Leeds Arena.

Warrington beat Northern Ireland's Carl Frampton in his first title defence in December and is unbeaten in 28 fights.

"All of a sudden people are saying I am capable of beating every featherweight in the world, and with that comes expectation," said the Leeds fighter.

The 28-year-old earned his place as the mandatory challenger by beating American Toka Kahn Clary in October.

Galahad, who was born in Qatar but moved to England as a child, was given a two-year doping ban in 2016, which was later cut by six months.

Posted by: Mack. 20th March 2019, 12:56 PM

World heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder will defend his title against mandatory challenger Dominic Breazeale in New York on 18 May.

The Barclays Center fight was ordered by the WBC, after Briton Tyson Fury opted for an alternative bout instead of a rematch with Wilder, 33.

Posted by: Mack. 20th March 2019, 04:14 PM

Josh Warrington would be open to a rematch against Carl Frampton - but only if the Northern Irishman has a world title to defend.

Warrington beat Frampton in his first IBF world featherweight title defence and will face Kid Galahad on 15 June.

Frampton has ended talk of retirement by signing a new multi-fight contract with US-based Top Rank promotions.

The Belgian has lost just once in 44 professional bouts.

After Saturday's fight, I would think that now is the time for Amir Khan to retire.

Posted by: dobbo 23rd April 2019, 06:24 PM

Yep agreed, he's on an impossible-to-get-out-of downward spiral much like Haye was last year. Call it a day son no one cares anymore....

Belfast boxer Michael Conlan has apologised to "the people he offended" by a ring entrance song which contained lyrics supporting the IRA.

He was criticised after the Wolfe Tones' Celtic Symphony, which includes the line "Up the Ra", was played before his St Patrick's Day bout in New York.

"I misjudged the reaction and to the people I offended I definitely apologise," said the featherweight.

Deontay Wilder will face a hearing after the World Boxing Council said his comments about death in the ring are "against the spirit of our sport".

The WBC world heavyweight champion has faced criticism for stating he is "trying to get a body on my record".

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman said the comments were "regrettable" and against the organisation's ethics.

Wilder, 33, made the comments in the lead up to Saturday's bout with American compatriot Dominic Breazeale.

Billy Joe Saunders won the vacant WBO world super-middleweight title with a unanimous points victory over Shefat Isufi at Stevenage's Lamex Stadium.

The former WBO middleweight belt holder joined the list of two-weight world champions in dominant style, showing punch variety and classy movement.

The 29-year-old was briefly wobbled by a right hand in the sixth round but found poise again to capture the belt.

Judges scored the fight 120-108 117-111 118-110 in favour of the Englishman.

Josh Taylor claimed his first world title with a points victory against Ivan Baranchyk in the IBF super-lightweight title bout in Glasgow.

Posted by: Seinfeld 19th May 2019, 04:50 AM

Whatever you think of Wilder as a boxer, he has amazing speed and power. Not sure Joshua would have got up from that punch...

Posted by: dobbo 19th May 2019, 11:39 AM

True but then AJ wouldn't have been struck by that punch in the first place. Breazeale looked way out of his depth right from the off.

It's really quite tiring with all this pussyfooting around between the "big 3" now, no-one cares about whoever Fury & AJ are fighting next. I think Whyte deserves another shot against one of them though, he's come on leaps & bounds since his defeat to AJ...

Posted by: Mack. 28th May 2019, 02:51 PM

Anthony Joshua's fight on Saturday. Should be a comfortable win for him.

Anyone else unfortunate enough to watch the Hughie Fury fight on Saturday night on Channel 5, it wasn't the best that's for sure.

Posted by: Houdini 2nd June 2019, 10:45 AM

Andy Ruiz Jr has beaten Antony Joshua in a 7th round stoppage! Antony Joshua has lost the IBF, WBO and WBA world heavyweight championships, I never in a million years would have thought that Joshua would lose this fight and now the plans to face Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder have been messed up now.

Posted by: dobbo 2nd June 2019, 11:15 AM

AJ, what a fraud!

I think on the evidence of last night it's for the better he's not facing Wilder of Fury after laugh.gif

Posted by: Seinfeld 2nd June 2019, 11:35 AM

A horrible performance from Joshua, just so slow and robotic. The comparison to Bruno is obvious, he can’t keep himself organised when put under pressure and looks all over the place. His movement and stamina is a major concern.

Great credit to Ruiz Jr though, brilliant performance from him.

Posted by: Houdini 2nd June 2019, 11:42 AM

We'll get probably Andy Ruiz Jr Vs Deontay Wilder instead at some point, either that or a rematch of this fight. Deontay Wilder Vs AJ is a fight that I would have looked forward to watching though so a bit gutted that it's looking less likely to happen.

Posted by: Mack. 13th July 2019, 12:39 AM

Britain's Amir Khan claimed the WBC international welterweight title with a fourth-round stoppage of Australian Billy Dib in Saudi Arabia.

Khan floored Dib in the second round with a fierce left hook at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.

A rapid combination of punches then saw Dib fall to the canvas again, prompting his corner to throw in the towel.

Dib only took the fight in June after original opponent Neeraj Goyat withdrew after being injured in a car crash.

Tyson Fury battled to a rugged points win over Otto Wallin as he fought for over nine rounds with heavy cuts to maintain his unbeaten record in a dramatic bout in Las Vegas.

Did what he had to do, patient play throughout paid dividends. Welcome back to the big time AJ!

Posted by: Rooney 8th December 2019, 12:42 AM

AJ played it safe and tactical, good victory. I mean Jesus though, how big was Ruiz? Looked like he spent his time training in McDonald's. AJ meanwhile certainly looks like he's been pumping less iron and leaning more on stamina rather than strength.

Now bring on AJ vs Wilder which is what everyone wants to see!
