The single of 'Giving You Up' was accompanied with the B-side 'Made of Glass', another Xenomania production that was due to appear as the third new track on Ultimate Kylie before being removed last minute. It's since become a fan favourite with some claiming it would have made a better choice of single. Which song do you prefer? Would 'Made of Glass' have been a better single? |

Both are good but "Made Of Glass" edges out in front, I mean come on why wasn't this on 'Ultimate Kylie', it would have been more than welcome, then we could have had 3 fantastic new tracks. 'MOG' also would have made a much better single choice with its winding synths, whispery vocals & a subtle yet effective chorus that gives it a fresh & edgy sound. Even now this still sounds fresh & just great. Apparently Rachel Stevens also recorded this song for her 'Come & Get It' album, but for whatever reason it never leaked, it would have been interesting to hear her version. 'Giving You Up' - fine enough a nice sultry little number with a catchy chorus, but quite forgettable when compared to her other singles from this decade. Just for fun I've decided to post the top 20 from the week it was released = 03/04/05

^^ I remember posting about this before, if it wasn’t for the weekly re-issues of Elvis tracks it would have been Top 5

I hated that elvis reissues also blocked love at first sight from number 1.

Even now this still sounds fresh & just great. Apparently Rachel Stevens also recorded this song for her 'Come & Get It' album, but for whatever reason it never leaked, it would have been interesting to hear her version. I could hear Rachel singing 'Made of Glass'. Rumours have it that 'Secret Garden' from Come & Get It was originally offered to Kylie (it does have the same producer/writer that worked on Body Language) although I'm not sure if a Kylie demo exists. It does sound very Kylie. I hated that elvis reissues also blocked love at first sight from number 1. At least that was given a remix and was a genuinely huge hit though. Just a bit of unfortunate timing - if released the week prior, its 80k sales would have easily beaten the 62k 'Light My Fire' sold. |

These songs rate pretty closely to me. They're both quite quirky but 'Made of Glass' is probably the more interesting for being so different for Kylie. Not sure if they'd have risked it as a single following the lukewarm reception of Body Language but it would have made a nice addition to Ultimate Kylie.
I'm siding more with 'Giving You Up' but, like I say, it's very close. |
