We have to make sure if something new gets to no1 we don't have a situation where drakes bounces back the following week. I would say the next no 1 will climb rather than Climb from nowhere!

Paul Simon for number 1 in Albums this week?

Would be great to see Coldplay's "AHFOD" go 16-8-4-2-1 (returning back to the top next week).

I know what you mean, non-consecutive runs at #1 are quite ugly. I do occasionally allow them on my personal chart (3 in 16 years!) but they are almost as bad as debuts at #1 for me.

Shawn Mendes' new song is by far the weakest single from him. Hopefully there are better ones to come.

On reflection Coldplay may have difficulty next week, surely The Stones Roses will release on Friday in view of their upcoming concerts in Manchester?

I'd expect Tom Odell to outsell Coldplay next week anyway surely?

Yes, you are probably right but songs from "Wrong Crowd" haven't set the charts alight so far.

True but we have also seen at least 3 Albums released this year that have been follow-ups to a number 1 that have disappointed in terms of chart position (eg Katy B, Bob Dylan & Rihanna). Also this years Critics choice came up short.

Rihanna's album is a totally separate case considering she gave it away free the day before tongue.gif and Jack Garratt has nothing to do with Tom either, he didn't succeed hugely because his music isn't wide-appealing enough. I think Tom can do 20k at the very least, I hope so anyway.

Please. Rihanna flopped outright. No excuses. She gave so many copies away for free through Samsung because she knew it would flop. Surprise surprise. It did. The album's a non-entity in the UK. The biggest flop of her career. She had to start declining at some point.

laugh.gif oh dear. I think #6 considering so many people got it free is a success. Most people will not buy it again after getting it for free, I only bought it because I prefer to own CDs. I'm not gonna pretend it's Adele levels of success for her but to say it's an "outright" flop is ridiculous.

Please. It FLOPPED. How you can even begin to argue different is hilarious. She didn't give 1M copies away just in the UK, she gave 1M free copies WW. BIG difference. She should be doing better, especially with Spotify at her disposal.

It's a flop. You can try to twist it all you want, but the fact remains, it flopped. FloppedT.

I am well aware of the fact it was 1m worldwide and my point still stands tongue.gif if Adele gave away 1 million copies of 25 free for a day worldwide, the day before its release, it would've reduced its opening sales in the UK and everywhere, because who wants to buy an album they already own?

It did not flop. You can say that all you want and be as abrupt as you like but it didn't flop. Especially when its lead single has over 800k chart sales.

Eh, I don't think you can call it a flop. Most of Rihanna's albums tend to sell over a long period of time rather than a lot all at once. It's certified gold and is still top 30 on the album chart. But it's certainly a step down in comparison to her previous albums - however it's the first album of hers not to get a Q4 release since GGGB and considering how much the album market has decreased I'd say it's been a success so far.

Yeah, Anti's initial chart run was a bit meh, but since then it's had great staying power! 18 weeks top 30 (so far) is far from a flop!
