Should have buried the few chances we got in the first 15 minutes or so, we defended quite well but ultimately Italy outplayed us and deserved to go through. At the very least we've been spared from an absolute thrashing at the hands of the German side, who are very well placed to win the tournament.

QUOTE(Rooney @ Jun 25 2012, 03:00 PM) *
Rooney was tasked with tracking Pirlo, and it worked for 25 minutes, but the problem was when we lost the ball after an attack, Rooney didn't track Pirlo. That sort of job is not one you give to a striker. The guy should have been man marked out of the game, and not by a half-fit striker.

His performance was like against Barcelona in the Champions League final, was fine dropping back to mark Busquets for a bit, but after half of the first half he seemed to have had enough.

I just don't understand what some people think they're going to achieve by attacking the likes of Milner, Young and Henderson, it's like they think there are loads of better alternatives just waiting in reserve when there just isn't.

Well this is another problem we have, the younger players we have coming through are good, but they're still not as good as other teams younger players. Until people in England realize that passing sideways or backwards is NOT a problem, then we won't win anything. I thought Milner had an ok tournamenet, Young was diabolical but people expected too much of him, and I'm fed up of defending Henderson from people. The guy is quality and will be the best central midfield player England have with Wilshere. The guy oozes absolute class, and understands how football is played in the modern era. People are just too blind to see it.

I'm not debating Henderson has enormous potential, my only qualm was that he's hardly seen as a substitute to strike fear into the opposition.

See I dislike that attitude too. He's not seen as a big name player, so he shouldn't be involved

The sooner we stop playing players because of their names, the better. Managers have played Gerrard and Lampard together for years because of their status rather than doing what is best for the team

Oh and it's hilarious how people like Paul Merson and Piers Morgan are blaming Carroll for England losing the penalty shoot out. Hodgson didn't pick him to take one and yet that's Carroll's fault ? Someone please explain the logic behind this ?

I didn't mean it like that at all - I'm perfectly aware that bringing him on for Rooney would have been pretty astute, I was just making the point it would have hardly scared the opposition.

If Paul Merson and Piers Morgan had seen Andy Carroll take a penalty before then they would know he should stay well away from them.

Yep his penalty vs. Chelsea wasn't great, but then I've only ever seen him take one so it's hard to judge

Look at Suarez. He's taken two penalties for us and both have been poor and then you watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe-rltB_BiQ and wonder if he's the same player
