BuzzJack Music Forum _ Little Mix _ Break Up Song • OUT NOW

Posted by: Jonjo 11th October 2019, 06:13 AM

In all honesty, I've not seen much about this other than Jade said we will more than likely get one before the end of the year.

I have seen whispers that they are gonna be on Ariana's curated Charlie's Angels soundtrack! Which is released last week of Nov...

What do you want from it?

It’s not likely but I’d love it if they done an original Christmas song and we had that as their Q4 single.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 11th October 2019, 11:52 AM

I can't help but feel they've got their work cut out to be properly successful again. I'm rooting for them, but it's gonna be difficult.

Posted by: JosephStyles 11th October 2019, 01:16 PM

I think all it takes is an undeniably great pop song. Woman Like Me was huge only a year ago and while both singles since then underperformed, neither were career-ending disasters.

Posted by: Frenchie 11th October 2019, 01:48 PM

I kinda hope they wait until next year to release the next single. The last thing they need is for it to get lost in the Christmas songs. But I'm not worried they won't get another hit.

WLM was huge and that was only a year ago. As stated above, all they need is a great song.

Posted by: Defaze 11th October 2019, 06:37 PM

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried too. I think they’re in a very similar position to Katy at the moment, in the sense that it if they release an undeniable bop like NRO then it’ll smash, but anything subpar will probably bomb ala ‘Small Talk’. It’s definitely a crucial junction in their career, and I’m not entirely confident in their ability to pick the right song after them claiming that ‘Bounce Back’ was their favourite single so far. laugh.gif

As for release date, early November is probably the least risky if they’re set on 2019. If last year is any indication, any later will just result in it being swallowed by the Xmas song influx. Tbh, I think it’s probably better to hold off till the New Year. January typically sees a dearth of new releases, so at least they won’t be overshadowed, and it gives the GP a chance to feel their absence a bit more. BB is still relatively recent and was hammered by radio.

Posted by: Jonjo 23rd February 2020, 01:28 PM

Hoping to get more on this soon. I'm gagging for new material from them... ughhhh.

Posted by: legendsglory 23rd February 2020, 04:44 PM

This was a few weeks ago. Lead single seems to be all ready to go, announcement soon hopefully!
Didnt they say they were performing it in Brazil? Thats in 2 weeks.. omg they are coming!! HYPE

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 23rd February 2020, 05:31 PM

Anything subpar will have a massive effect on them for this era, really hope they can comeback with a huge bang.

Posted by: legendsglory 2nd March 2020, 06:19 PM

Leigh told fans yesterday that the new single is kinda 80s inspired. Interesting move

Posted by: Jonjo 2nd March 2020, 07:49 PM

Ooft. Hopefully either 'Weird People' 80's party vibes or Weeknd/Dua new singles 80's inspired pop vibes plz.

More Dua than the former pls. I can see their logic in going for a more 80s inspired vibe, given that 'Black Magic' literally revived their career the last time, and I don't doubt they'd sell it well, but a retread of that sound would come across slightly... lame six albums deep. Honestly, something even approaching the quality of 'Don't Start Now'/'Blinded...' would be incredible.

Posted by: Seinfeld 6th March 2020, 11:55 PM

I would like them to release something original rather than a ‘80s/‘90s throwback or ripping off other artist songs. They need to stop chasing trends tbh (I know they need/want a big hit but I want some originality too).

Album’s coming this semester as revealed in this brazilian interview. Also, my friend who works at the festival’s producer told me they were going to record a video here (not anymore because of Perrie’s absence).

I think it might’ve been for the lead, as external and internal filmings had been scheduled.

Yeah, it was true.

All filming for the video to the first single from album 6 has been scrapped for the 2nd time, due to Coronavirus! cry.gif

If only Perrie was able to make it to Brazil sob.gif

Posted by: JulianNial 19th March 2020, 01:15 PM

At this point I guess it would be good for them to maybe just drop a buzz single or something whilst we wait? A "Little Live" EP... just something to pass the time.

NEW ERA PENDING!

yahoo.gif yahoo.gif

Sounds synthy biggrin.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 20th March 2020, 07:21 PM

I'm so excited.

I read somewhere that this is just an all out pop song. It's not as "empowering" as some of their other singles. So I assume it's just gonna be a 'Black Magic' type, pure pop fun bop.

Posted by: Frenchie 20th March 2020, 08:29 PM

That teaser has got me very hyped! I'm glad they've properly planned out this era

Posted by: legendsglory 21st March 2020, 09:36 AM

OH MY GOD.
I'm so hyped for this!!! cheer.gif

Posted by: LMLou 21st March 2020, 09:44 AM

So exited, hope they learned that Bounce Back wasn’t quality enough and up their game

Posted by: JulianNial 21st March 2020, 10:15 AM

Well I am READY for whatever this is going to be. I'm feeling, cute, electicity, 80s, synths.

Posted by: caseclosed 22nd March 2020, 06:24 PM

The single seems to be called Break Up Song. There’s a filter of “Which LM song are you?” On their Instagram and one of the answers is that. When you get that, a bit of the chorus is played.

Posted by: Jonjo 22nd March 2020, 06:35 PM

Oh wow. This is really happening, isn't it? ohmy.gif Release on Friday please!

(Or try and avoid Dua and release it next week)

Posted by: legendsglory 22nd March 2020, 06:50 PM

Snippet sounds really good! Very short but already stuck in my head!!

Posted by: JulianNial 22nd March 2020, 08:16 PM

It's not a potential break up song, it just IS another break up song.

Posted by: 1hit1der 23rd March 2020, 12:05 AM

Do we think this is gonna be a mid-tempo song? Interesting to see how this matches up to Don’t Start Now / Blinding Lights!

Have a good feeling about this era. LM’s Future Nostalgia moment!

Let’s hope we get a WLM / Power-style high budget music video!

Posted by: JulianNial 23rd March 2020, 07:21 AM

So there's talks that this is a leftover from 'Get Weird' that's been spruced up.

I speculated that because of it’s register number on the BMI repertoire. Usually when you compare register numbers between songs from different albums, those which were released later have higher numbers (as one would think, logically). This one has a lower number than Black Magic, which leads us to believe it was registered first.

Yeh that's the one.

I also agree, if they have a video ready then go for it! More possible streams since everyone (like myself) have a lot less on our agenda.

I dont think they do have one ready. Theres been stories about them cancelling the video shoot twice now but im not sure if they managed to actually film it before the girls went into self isolation. Hopefully they did! Although they have been rumoured to have filmed a vertical video for spotify

Posted by: Jonjo 23rd March 2020, 04:20 PM

Yeah I think they'll just use the vertical video for a bit. Judging by the first teaser, they've filmed something, at least.

I'm so excited to hear this in full!

I guess so, but also I picked up on the fact the girls said "We have picked the SINGLES already." which lead me to the possibility they had already filmed single 1 and were planning to film single 2 in Brazil, but I guess we'll be fine with the vertical video for now if that's the case.

Posted by: legendsglory 23rd March 2020, 05:17 PM

Oh yes good point! I guess the news in the papers could be for single 2. They could of easily filmed it without us knowing about it.
Hoping we get an announcement soon

Also gaming.

We've already seen that The Weeknd has perhaps suffered about this but of course fanbases will buy/stream regardless.

That’s fair, but I feel like it’s hard to put them in a box when there’s four of them. Personally, I think Perrie would rather be releasing pure pop music. Jades favorite song they’ve ever released is Wasabi which is definitely more pop than r&b but can’t really be defined. I think they like all sorts of music and the album ends up leaning towards what they’re feeling at the moment.

Posted by: caseclosed 25th March 2020, 05:32 PM

I personally think Little Mix excel the most at pure pop. Their personalities just shine through that genre.

Posted by: Jonjo 25th March 2020, 05:43 PM

I dunno? I dont see what the problem if they wanna switch from pop every now and again? It's not like it's COMPLETELY different. It's still very pop just with RnB elements and influences. It's kind of the key to their success tbh.

There's no problem but they go from pop > r&b flop at r&b then go back to pop and have a huge era try more r&b and flop again. I think them sticking with a pop album is their best chance but I can honestly see a hiatus after this album.

Loved Perrie's chat with Roman Kemp too. You can actually see how much she adores this track. Plus her mentioning that it was Alex's favourite track makes me even more perched after his FYN stanning.

I do feel radio might be a bit more hesitant this time around after the last few underperformances, so I'm definitely not expecting a 'straight to A-list' scenario like with Bounce Back, but I do feel R1 will maintain their usual level of support. They tend to give them a lot of random spins even when they're not on the playlist. Capital are a lot more fickle, but they did get on board with BB (albeit after a week or so) and even One I've Been Missing, so I hope whatever made them snub TAU entirely has been ironed out now.

Posted by: Defaze 25th March 2020, 09:16 PM

G'won Leigh. Their tactic to capitalise on the Tik Tok hype is both clever and hilariously transparent, but 100% here for it if it helps the song's commercial prospects. laugh.gif I hope there's choreo in the actual MV too.

Posted by: Jonjo 25th March 2020, 09:32 PM

Aha! Completely. But I'm here for it! *.* At least it'll actually be another decent song that (hopefully) benefits from the app. There's only been 1 or 2 from my memory that I've actually bothered with as they're all usually generic, urban Spotify fodder.

I don't think I actually get what point you're trying to make :')

Every single one of their songs to date has been pop? Some more uplifting than others, some more synthy, some more bubblegum, some more sassy, but all pop? Pop is a huge genre ~

I can't WAIT for this. It sounds absolutely killer, whatever strand of pop it is *.*

Posted by: Liam.k. 25th March 2020, 10:57 PM

The preview sounds great, feels like just the sort of fun pop we need at the moment. I think this will do well for them, I know it's been a bit of a shaky past year for them but all they needed to was return with the right song and I think this could be it.

Posted by: JulianNial 25th March 2020, 11:38 PM

Posted by: Jordan Lee 25th March 2020, 11:50 PM

That actually sounds more like the type song Syco would’ve wanted them to make than a good portion of their last album.

It sounds promising though.

It’s out there in NZ. I’m obsessed with Leigh’s first verse and Jade’s bridge is genuinely a career highlight. I’d say the verses are actually stronger than the chorus, but the overall package is a massive bop.

It’s out there in NZ. I’m obsessed with Leigh’s first verse and Jade’s bridge is genuinely a career highlight. I’d say the verses are actually stronger than the chorus, but the overall package is a massive bop.

I havent listened yet. Would you say its their best lead?

I'd say SOTME is still their most instant, but I reckon I'll vastly prefer this in the long run. It's more understated and definitely seems like it'll be a grower. Their vocals are heavenly. wub.gif

Yeah I thought it had a similar energy to the likes of 'Blinding Lights' and 'Physical', hopefully that can work in its favour.

I like it, I wish there was a video recorded, I'm sure it'll make the song even better, but right now I'm thinking we won't get one for at least a good two months.

I've limited myself to just listening to the NZ iTunes preview and OMG this is a bop. I love the structure of Perrie's verse so much.

I get the 80s influences that I know Dua and few others are doing right now, but this is their first single in a little while that doesn't feel like it's trying to imitate another song, it's just unequivocally all the best parts of Little Mix.

Possibly their most enjoyable single since 'Touch' for me?
(Which isn't too hard given I low key haven't loved any of their singles in a while...)

I agree; it often feels like they hop on a trend wayyy too late, so it's nice to see them slightly ahead of the curve for a change.

I'm addicted to this already. It's just such an easy listen. It really feels like a spiritual successor to 'Black Magic' (which makes sense if it is indeed a GW rework), so I hope they can tap into the market that felt 'alienated' by their last few releases.

I'm low-key worried about what kind of exposure this is going to get on Spotify. I feel there's the chance it could get lost in the shuffle with Dua's new album releasing. Then again, the push 'Bounce Back' got was kinda relentless.

I'm quite anxious about their Spotify for some reason too. I feel like this could just as easily do a Rita Ora in all honesty! I hope it getsa good NMF playlisting on Friday, but I lowkey can see it somewhere between 6-10 which could set the tone for this era I feel sad.gif

GAHHH. Just nervous. But at least we have a banger, I guess!

Posted by: Court 26th March 2020, 05:54 PM

The only thing that gives me hope is that there is a vertical video. Those are usually made for the playlist so it seems strange that they would put it out if there was no playlist support lined up.

That probably amounts to about 10 sales, but still a good showing given how much their clout has dimished over there. They weren't even top 10 on NMF NZ/AU, so I'm hoping it's a different outcome over here come midnight.

The reaction to this seems overwhelmingly positive so far, which warms my heart after the polarised reception to WLM and 'Bounce Back'. I honestly think it might've already leapfrogged 'Move' as my favourite of their leads. Someone over on PopJustice alluded to 'Boys of Summer', which probably explains why I'm so fond of it. That song literally defined my childhood. wub.gif

This sounds glorious in full! Very 80s - those opening chords sound like they're lifted right out of an 80s power ballad. That chorus is pure joy.

I'm going to be bold and say this has the potential to be my favourite lead single (actually, it's probably already second to 'Move' - I enjoyed 'Black Magic'/'Shout Out to My Ex' but not to the same extent as most people).

I like the idea of this. The 80's synths I'm definitely here for. It does sound a bit pedestrian though. I hope they do well with it regardless because they usually deliver. Probably their best single since Woman Like Me imo. On the plus side, it does have a "grower" vibe about it so maybe it will have longevity and replay value on streaming.

I can’t see a Rita/Ellie-style debut on the cards. NMF + Hot Hots + their fanbase alone should give them a respectable debut. That being said, Capital are paying this dust despite interviewing the girls multiple times the past few days, so that certainly won’t help. I know they took a few days to get on board with ‘Bounce Back’, but it at least had the R1 A-list giving it exposure.

Considering its top 30 on Apple Music Im gonna guess it'll at leats make top 50 on Spotify. I don't think much of Dua's album will debut above this at all
I'll say #31 debut but it'll peak a little higher later on in the week

Great song, easily their best single since Power for me. Nothing groundbreaking but so joyful and fun with so much replayability. Radio 1 and Capital should hopefully eat this up as it’s so radio friendly and carefree.

I think it will debut at ~30 on Spotify behind 7 of the Skepta/Chip/Adz songs and the Partynextdoor/Rihanna collab. I don't think any of the Dua Lipa album tracks will be above it (maybe 1 or 2 at most).

Also, Bounce Back got a much bigger instant push. A-list on R1 and strong Spotify playlisting...

Posted by: 365 28th March 2020, 01:12 PM

Yeah Bounce Back's Spotify push was much bigger, so I'm quite surprised!

Posted by: Court 28th March 2020, 02:09 PM

For comparison, Skeptas tracks range from 157k to 698k total plays (I’m not sure if any of the tracks were already out before yesterday. Although Break Up Song has way more, I’d assume Skepta has a much higher percentage of UK streams.

Duas album tracks all for more streams than Break Up Song but more of them probably come from other countries than LM as she had much better Spotify exposure and has a hit single in a lot of other markets.

I’d say they stand a good chance of debuting in the Top 50.

‘Break Up Song’ debuts at #16 on Spotify. Not a bad start.

I wish it'd been added to Today's Top Hits. Most of the big releases are there so it's almost impossible to see its streaming potential with that big of a gap in playlist followers.

"decent sized hit like Woman Like Me"

Can we all stop underplaying WLM's success? laugh.gif It's one of their biggest hits. They'll be lucky to get a hit as big as that again in all honesty! This could be a cute 600k+ seller though providing they get timing and playlisting right!

WLM is my least fave thing they’ve ever done but if this did anywhere near as good as that I’d be thrilled. It was a smash!

I wasn’t underplaying WLM’s success at all? I just stated that it was their last big hit and I want them to have another big hit. ‘Decent sized hit’ in my terminology means it did very well. So chill.

Posted by: 365 28th March 2020, 09:39 PM

I'm not sure if they'll ever get a hit as big as Woman Like Me ever again, tbh. I'd be happy with something 'Never Really Over' sized (with a peak more reflective of it).

Posted by: Jonjo 28th March 2020, 11:35 PM

This really reminds me of 'Nothing Else Matters'. Especially the post chorus "Ain't no more tears. Ain't gonna cry. Boy, I'll do anything to get you off my mind."

"Decent" typically means "acceptable standard/satisfactory", so I understand Jonjo thinking that decent understates how well Woman Like Me performed, with it being #2 / 6 weeks in the Top 5 / Platinum heehee.gif

Posted by: Liam.k. 29th March 2020, 01:05 AM

I think the perception that 'Woman Like Me' wasn't as big of a hit as it was could be down to it not having a particularly huge weekly sales, which is what we were used to after 'Black Magic' and 'Shout Out to My Ex'. However, there was a few things to consider here: 1) 'Shout Out to My Ex' premiered with an X Factor performance and the video dropped at the start of the second week, 'Woman Like Me' had its X Factor performance and video in its third week; 2) look at the general sales from Autumn 2016 and Autumn 2018, the sales are much lower as downloads continued to drop (and I think there was a streaming ratio change as well); 3) the initial reception to 'Woman Like Me' wasn't as immediately positive like it had been for 'Shout Out to My Ex', it took a couple of weeks for opinions to change.

I also think the way 'Woman Like Me' didn't seem to sell the album as well as expected could also have hindered people's perception of the song. I remember thinking after LM5 debuted at #3 "it's alright, it'll remain consistent in the Top 10 over Christmas, which it didn't, then I thought "it's okay, it'll jump straight back up again in the New Year, which it didn't.

It's all about metrics though. WLM's success is understated when compared to what the market as a whole was like at the time, but when considering Little Mix's track record leading up to LM5 it's a "decent sized hit" at best.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 29th March 2020, 06:12 AM

Even compared to their own track record, Woman Like Me did extremely well for them:

Weeks inside the Top 10, in numerical order (i.e. not necessarily the chart run order):
01-01-01-02-03-03-05-06-07-09-10 Shout Out to My Ex [11 weeks]
05-05-05-06-06-06-07-07-07-09-09 Reggaeton Lento [11 weeks]
04-04-04-04-04-04-05-06-08-10 Touch [10 weeks]
02-02-02-03-03-05-06-07-08 Woman Like Me [9 weeks]
06-06-08-08-09-09-10-10 Power [8 weeks]
01-01-01-03-04-06-10 Black Magic [7 weeks]
01-04-04-07 Wings [4 weeks]
01-02-06 Cannonball [3 weeks]
03-05-08 Move [3 weeks]
06-07-08 Secret Love Song [3 weeks]
03 DNA [1 week]
06 Salute [1 week]
06 Word Up! [1 week]
10 Bounce Back [1 week]

Fourth longest run in the Top 10. Only Shout Out to My Ex managed a longer stay inside the Top 3. ACR robbed Woman Like Me of at least two more weeks in the Top 10.

When it comes to sales, Woman Like Me is their 7th best selling single out of 24 singles, and also their second best selling lead single.

Bar the fact it didn't peak at #1, I'm not sure what more it could have done (I feel like how LM5 performed off the back of it is a separate discussion, it doesn't take away from how big a single it was). Woman Like Me was undoubtedly a huge hit, in terms of the market at the time and their career!

Not sure what this means? It stuck around for ages and would be on 1,100,000 sales on the same ratio as the other singles. It was kept off #1 by two songs. First Shallow, and second Thank U Next - both of which are the biggest hits of Gaga and Ariana's careers here.

The only thing I'd say about Woman Like Me; is that not good choice of song to sell albums. They should have released it in the Summer and released The Cure/Monster In Me etc in Q4.

That’s not bad considering the lack of big playlist support outside the UK. I think it should be enough to keep them in the Top 50 today.

Up to #14 on Apple Music UK and #3 on Amazon UK Chart (not sure how relevant it is, but great nonetheless that it's still climbing). New peak on both.

It's about to fall to #2 on Itunes though.

To be fair, most groups seem to break up over ridiculous things and just be drama central, girl groups of course being especially notorious for this sort of thing. I can't really think of a girl group that's managed to stay together for nine years straight without changing members. They've at least been smart enough to realise that solo careers rarely happen for more than an album or two so they might be smart enough not to just break up.

Capital played it because Jade was a guest (again) on the Breakfast Show, so jury’s still out on whether they’re actually supporting it. It’s depressing that they’ve done countless interviews over the past week and Capital are reciprocating by giving them the bare minimum. It really shouldn’t be this difficult for an act of their standing to secure airplay.

Sorry but the contrast in Jade/Leigh's work ethic and enthusiasm next to Perrie/Jesy is hilarious.

The first pair are ALWAYS doing media and promoting the brand (just this last month they had that interview in Brazil plus did the meet and greet while Jesy didn't) and then they were both on This Morning today as well, plus seem to be the most involved in terms of songwriting and pushing Wasabi and doing the video for it.

I love all four and it's no shade to the other two because they're entitled to do what they want in their free time but it's definitely blatantly obvious there's a divide in effort. laugh.gif

Top 10 will be a fantastic result. Anything in top 15 in all honesty.. the test will be how it holds up next week!

I really hope Capital and Radio 1 playlist!

A top ten debut is incredible for anyone in the streaming era let's face it. The problem is whether or not it will plummet out of the charts in a few weeks and that'll be everything over with again.

So true, a top ten given the climate is impressive! I'd love for her to take over 'Lonely' and score 3 top 5 hits this Friday. A dream.

I'm rooting for Dua as much as the next person, but I think you're a bit lost. laugh.gif

Agreed re a top 10 debut being a fantastic result. Anyone suggesting otherwise (hello Chart Prediction/Spotify thread) are seriously misinterpreting their place in the current chart landscape. Measuring their success now relative to the GW/GD eras is just asking to be disappointed. For them to even be scoring minor hits as a girl group over eight years into their career is a feat in itself.

Shame about Spotify. I think 'Bounce Back' had held better at this point, but again, it had much more favourable airplay and playlist support. Hoping Capital finally jump on board tomorrow.

It’s like Blinding Lights’ little sister, cute but I’m not sure how big it’ll be.

Yes the production reminds me of Blinding Lights a bit. Girls Aloud went more synthy and mature pop for their later stuff of their career in 2008-9 so its good Little Mix have gone the same way.

It’s getting strong rotation too, so I guess it really was just a case of them snubbing it because it wasn’t on the playlist yet. I always figured Capital were more fluid in terms of playing tracks outwith their playlist, but apparently not. Yay for R1 too. I’m hoping this’ll be more of a slow-burner and actually grow with airplay, unlike Bounce Back.

It really deserves to do well this song.

Spotify is going to be harder for newer songs right now I think. People aren't commuting to and from work. At home with their kids/other people so are less likely to listen to music on Spotify/Amazon etc.. It's doing about as expected as I expected it to rn (actually better as I had feared it wouldn't even go top 50 on debut let alone top 20 laugh.gif) now that radio are on board, hopefully it'll stick around more. Tbf, the drops aren't as disastrous as they could be. It needs to stabilise soon though! Hopefully they're going for the slow burn method with this as opposed to straight away smash.

Basically, as gutted as I am that they're dropping, I am not concerned... yet. But then I have little knowledge on Spotify etc.. laugh.gif How is it holding on Apple Music? If it's still in the 13-17 region, it's doing great.

Yeah, Apple is holding well so it's promising there

I'm glad to see it's on Capital's S list. Hopefully that helps it stabilise over the next week. People's listening patterns seem different to usual, which isn't helping with new songs, but hopefully Hot Hits continue to slowly move the song upwards so it starts to make some gains.

Being removed from NMF playlists was a given, but it is slightly worrying that nothing seems to be helping this out on Spotify. I really hope this isn't another 'Bounce Back' scenario where it peaks high and collapses after a week, because this song deserves so much more.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 3rd April 2020, 02:18 PM

Ya it really needs a good steady chart run.

Posted by: caseclosed 3rd April 2020, 02:33 PM

It just doesn't make sense to me that it's been steady between #15-#18 on Apple Music the whole week whilst underperforming on Spotify.

Posted by: Jonjo 3rd April 2020, 05:23 PM

It needs to be higher on Todays Hot Hits and Hot Hits UK on Spotify for Spotify streaming to be benefitted, I think someone said their playlisting on Apple Music playlists are a lot stronger. Hopefully it'll start making ground now that radio playlisting is under way though. Im confident of a 2nd week top 20 tbh!

I'd be happy with a 9-16-15-12-13-11-16-16-... kinda run. Hopefully it happens biggrin.gif

Posted by: Liam.k. 3rd April 2020, 05:30 PM

That's down just a single place. I'll take it.

16-25-27-30-35-36-37 is their Spotify movement! It's tricky to measure and compare this to how it would've done on a normal weekday had people not been in lockdown. Everyone's commute to work and stumbling upon it on their journeys to and from work etc. Hopefully Spotify playlisting starts to move up as it's not in a terrible position (hence why they're only dropping no more than a few places each time) on their main playlists, but it can definitely be better.

Posted by: M477h3w 3rd April 2020, 07:17 PM

Not sure if anyone wants to know but I read that with the #9 debut today, Little Mix have held nearly all the 1-10 positions in the UK Singles Chart. They just need a number 7 and 8 position to make it all of the top 10.

Posted by: legendsglory 3rd April 2020, 07:18 PM

I can’t think of anyone who’s done that in the same time period.

I don’t even think Ed or Drake have done that have they? (Not females but still that’s a really impressive top ten streak for them!

Posted by: Liam.k. 4th April 2020, 02:12 AM

I've had a check and this is what I found for female artists with the longest string of Top 10s across different years:

15 years: Madonna (1989-2003)
13 years: Rihanna (2005-2017)*
10 years: Little Mix (2011-present)
9 years: Mariah Carey (1992-2000)
9 years: Sugababes (2002-2010)

*Was still in the Top 10 with 'The Monster' in 2014

So in terms of UK female acts only, Little Mix were previously tied with Sugababes!

EDIT: Had a look to see who had the best string of Top 10s across different years overall and was surprised not to see an improvement on 15 years:

15 years: Madonna (1989-2003)
13 years: Cliff Richard (1958-1970)
13 years: Rihanna (2005-2017)*
12 years: Westlife (1999-2010)
11 years: Robbie Williams (1996-2006)
10 years: Little Mix (2011-present)
9 years: Mariah Carey (1992-2000)
9 years: Sugababes (2002-2010)
9 years: Calvin Harris (2011-2019)

I thought Elvis Presley or Cliff Richard could have beaten that, yet they don't even appear on my list!

Elvis Presley: 11 years (1956-1966)

Anyway, I think it's most impressive that Little Mix have managed to achieve Top 10s across 10 different years. It's not like the physical era where it was easier to push a song into the Top 10 and it's not like the girls have been almost omnipresent in the way Elvis and Madonna were.

Anyway, I think it's most impressive that Little Mix have managed to achieve Top 10s across 10 different years. It's not like the physical era where it was easier to push a song into the Top 10 and it's not like the girls have been almost omnipresent in the way Elvis and Madonna were.

It's great for them to do that and I hope they can stretch that to at least 15 years.

Fell one place again on Spotify, but with four new entries above it. Maybe a sign of things turning around with the help of Radio 1?

Yes that’s actually really good. They’ve had more streams today than yesterday too.

Posted by: caseclosed 4th April 2020, 04:32 PM

They’ve actually had 40k less. They had 520k the day before and 480k yesterday... Things won’t change while they don’t get a higher Hot Hits UK placement or a Today’s Top Hits one.

Posted by: shadow2009 4th April 2020, 04:54 PM

Bounce Back chart run incoming.

Capital are still absolutely spamming this, i wish it had this radio support from the start! It really needs to improve on spotify tbh, when does HH usually update?

Posted by: caseclosed 4th April 2020, 08:02 PM

It's still 14 on Apple Music so it's holding up nicely.

Ohh, didn't know! That's good then, make sense it fell outside considering they're out of the NMF playlists.

Posted by: Jonjo 5th April 2020, 01:19 AM

A concept...

The girls are sat in their living rooms reading a comic book/watching the TV/listening to the radio etc.. opening bars play and they are transported through that technology in the 80's (paying homage to the most iconic 80's music video A-Ha - Take On Me) and maybe have it half animated/half them doing the tik tok choreo in their living rooms etc..

They didnt really play the song the first few days of release even when they were being interviewed. But now its on a heavy rotation.. Thats what i meant.

Posted by: Jonjo 5th April 2020, 12:15 PM

They went out the top 10 on iTunes but have managed to get back in by kicking Jake Quickenden out.

They have 4 tracks above them that are receiving either a charity single push (Matt Lucas #1) or it's 3x Bill Withers (who recently died). They'd be 6 right now without those.

I need Dance Monkey to FO though. Ugh.

Posted by: caseclosed 5th April 2020, 12:27 PM

Their playlist support on Spotify is very bad. It won't do anything there if it doesn't improve.

Ah, ok! It still hardly has an effect on anything chart-wise.

Posted by: Robbie. 5th April 2020, 01:07 PM

This needs a big push on Spotify for this to have a great chart run.. currently #13 on Apple Music, a new peak I think.

Posted by: Jonjo 5th April 2020, 01:09 PM

Yep #13 and climbing is a good sign! biggrin.gif

Posted by: caseclosed 5th April 2020, 01:11 PM

This shows it climbs given the right push so I really can't see why they won't spend enough to get this a spot on TTH...

Over 427,122 streams overall yesterday. Let’s hope it maintained its position in the UK...

Up 16 spots to a new peak of #53 on Shazam UK.

Posted by: Rossco 5th April 2020, 02:24 PM

You’d think the label would want to be paying for a decent position in the playlists. The girls should do a virtual performance from home like other artists have been doing to get some exposure. Are music channels playing the lyric video?

Posted by: M477h3w 5th April 2020, 02:27 PM

It’s up one place on Spotify to #37 but with -3000 streams. I agree with a home performance would be great. Hopefully we get some sort of music video soon too.

Yeah it’s too good a song to underperform. I’m not bothered about peak position but would like them to have a consistent seller and get a few hundred thousand copies sold. Off I go to stream it again 🤣🤣

Posted by: LikeLeeIs 5th April 2020, 05:34 PM

Dropped out of top #20 but there’s two Bill Withers tracks ahead, I think with Apple Music it might get another week top 20.

Yeah, i really dont get why its not getting support support? They should be on TTH by now, they are even quite low on HH... Its getting treated like a buzz single, not a lead

Posted by: 365 5th April 2020, 06:15 PM

Im not sure if they'll ever get a single on TTH again tbh?

I was expecting a drop like this this week. It's only had 4 days on the capital playlist and R1 C list does nothing (needs B list at least). Once airplay picks up and HHUK moves it up, I can see the song spending a few more weeks top 15.

Posted by: Jonjo 5th April 2020, 06:29 PM

2nd week drops are always worse than they seem. Look at Gaga. Fell straight out the top 5 to #15, but remained stable in that region since. I imagine they'll be about #19 on Friday. A discount on iTunes next Friday would be appreciated.

Apple Music is holding strong and Spotify are usually slightly later to the game due to not updating as frequently. We need a higher HHUK position if this is gonna take off. In the top 20 (15 preferably).

Not panicking just yet. It's doing about as expected I'd say. Lets just see where they are next week. The fact they climbed today on Spotify with Saturday streams indicates people are listening to it. Also, for some reason when Little Mix are B-List on R1 that's when they start to make a move.

I'm really confident this is gonna have a more stable run than Bounce Back did. Bounce Back's support was instant (straight to A on R1 the Friday it was released). This will be building.

Good point, im really hoping it remains stable until we get some sort of music video at least as that could give it a boost. Their videos usually provide a good boost.

I agree, if it goes top 15-20 on HH, it will start to go higher on the spotify charts, next time it updates i think it should be top 20. Its 24 now.

Considering this was back up to 13/14 on Apple Music again yesterday, it really is strange that it keeps falling on Spotify. The support there isn't that much different now. Yesterday was from Sunday streams though, if it doesn't start to pick up in today's update it's concerning.

Airplay is quickly climbing, it's up to #13 on daily rolling airplay now.

I know that songs pick up on Spotify when they're placed high on playlists but it still baffles me that the power of a song doing well or not rests entirely on Spotify making that decision.

Like, for Little Mix they've got million selling singles and have had big albums plus sold out tours and even done stadium dates...where are all these people now? Surely they all follow the girls on social media or are aware that they have a new single? Where do all these fans go when it's time to stream their new music?

It's about not having a massive platform at the moment. They usually debuted their leads with big promo etc, but this one is a lockdown release with no video so it's not massively surprising it's a bit more of a slow burner. I feel relatively confident it will end up being more of an overall hit than 'Bounce Back', it's only just been added to the R1 C list.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 7th April 2020, 10:18 AM

As Little Mix fans we are so used to everything being instant. Promo, playlisting on radio, even positionings on big Spotify playlists, videos usually ready to go. They've done what they can with the limited promo available rn.

Like I said, this is gonna be a builder. Their lead singles usually get instantly strong radio support. We have to be patient wuth this one with every thing considered. I'm still confident this is gonna outlast BB.

I hope that Leigh is right and that they are doing a video or smthn rn.

It’s #13 on radio after it’s second week, y’all truly expect them to be #1 on everything immediately, they’re still getting more playlist exposure than most A-list popstars and radio plays!

Sure it’s not top 10 on HHUK but again even the biggest acts struggle to go high immediately, they’re doing more than fine especially with the vertical video pretty high.

I wish it was added to more of the bigger playlists on Spotify though. But this will do, for now. The girls need to get a video of some sort on Youtube, not an official video of some such, just a collection of something will do! Or record a performance that they can sendoff to be edited for a TV show like This Morning or something.

Up to B list on radio 1.

So #19 in the UK this week, not too bad!

Happy with that and a 2nd week top 20.

It’s #24 on AM right now. Not sure why it’s fallen that much.

It was taken out of Hot Songs and moved down on Today's Hits.

Well that won’t help.

That’s so annoying! No idea why they’ve pushed it down.

It’s so far down now that I can see it dropping into the 30’s...

Posted by: Jonjo 11th April 2020, 12:43 PM

That's really frustrating, what they did on Apple Music :/

Posted by: caseclosed 11th April 2020, 02:38 PM

Up to 30 on Spotify UK, despite dropping in worldwide streams.

Ugh why would that happen now on Apple Music, so annoying

Posted by: Jonjo 11th April 2020, 03:14 PM

So glad it's holding strong on Spotify!

Playlisting is vital. They need to do whatever they need to do to get back up higher!

Posted by: caseclosed 11th April 2020, 05:23 PM

It still climbs up during the day on Apple Music which shows the only thing lacking is playlist support.

Posted by: Jonjo 11th April 2020, 05:57 PM

I've just heard that 'Bounce Back' was actually out of the top 50 on Spotify at this point in it's life! So this is definitely being received better and garnering more plays from casuals. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Defaze 11th April 2020, 05:59 PM

It does concern me slightly that its streaming performance is so heavily bound to its playlist position, because it could suggest that not many people are actively seeking out the track. But I suppose you could make that case for most of the top 40 these days. Part of me hopes their team just brute force it into being a streaming hit like Mabel and ‘Boyfriend’ (and lowkey all her singles). That track has been consistently top 5 on Hot Hits for weeks.

Also, this is just refusing to get old for me. Sounds even better in the sunshine. wub.gif

I hadn’t realised BB tanked that soon. Maybe I was a bit premature with the comment about this not garnering that many casual listens, because it’s already doing better than BB (not exactly a high bar to clear, I know) with no promo, less airplay and less playlist exposure. Plus it has no video to buoy it up, which always gave their singles a substantial boost. Speaking of, I really hope there’s something in the pipeline despite the circumstances. An animated video might be cute. Or even just them dancing in their houses interspersed with shots of the vertical video. The song is too good to not have a video.

This song is a grower so having it high on playlists is definitely crucial in my opinion. Not that people dislike it on first listen but they usually just like it and then grow to love it.

Break Up Song — Spotify Update:

Total Streams: 8,828,079 (+380,475)

Posted by: caseclosed 12th April 2020, 02:03 PM

It's so annoying not being able to see the actual potential of the song because of its lack of playlist support.

Posted by: caseclosed 12th April 2020, 02:30 PM

Down to 32.

The amount of streams are stable though so its not too bad.

Annoying how it’s going to drop again this week.

Really needs to be higher on playlists it’s so low down on the main Apple and Spotify playlists

But with similar streams as the day before. It’s performing better than Bounce Back did at this stage. Hopefully there will be an increase on the playlists.

Posted by: caseclosed 12th April 2020, 03:59 PM

I thought it’s climb this week but Apple Music sort of ruined it.

Posted by: shadow2009 12th April 2020, 05:04 PM

I think we have to accept this will be out of the top 40 in a few weeks.

Posted by: caseclosed 12th April 2020, 05:42 PM

Oh so it’s actually up 3 spots to #16 on today’s prediction.

It’ll probably fall when streaming is accounted though, as opposed to last week, because of Apple Music, right?
