BuzzJack Music Forum _ Eurovision Song Contest _ Super Eurovision III - Opinions

Posted by: DNQrella 17th May 2017, 09:00 AM

Hi all. In the hard PED times we need to maintain Eurovision in our lives so I propose Super Eurovision III (like the Superbowl of Eurovision hence the name~) to be held during the next next weeks. Among everything it's a great way to rewrite all the wrongs that happened on the Eurovision stage.

Also mods please greenlight this, in case you had something else planned.

If we are going through with it, there will need to be a host too. So if anyone has free time and won't abandon this halfway through, go 4 it cheer.gif

P.S.: there's only one valid answer to this question. (and it's a yes btw)

OMG YASS!

speaking of abandoning things halfway through kink.gif what had happened with that countdown of yours we so enjoyed?

Posted by: jafetsigfinns 17th May 2017, 12:24 PM

lmfao! abandoning things halfway is my thing. I am actually working on another version of it where instead of going through the countries and then revealing the Top 250, i'll just go through them year by year. I might post it here if people are interested but otherwise I'm just enjoying making it for myself haha.

I'm very much down for this!

I was going to suggest doing something along the lines of 2008 - 2017 to celebrate 10 years of the dual semi final system anyway, so perhaps focus on these years this time around? Of course if more people want to extend the time frame then by all means!

Posted by: DNQrella 17th May 2017, 01:15 PM

I was thinking the exact same years, the true Super Eurovision style ~

By the time we get to 2017 the 'too recent' effect won't give 2017 an advantage.

Posted by: LexC♀ 17th May 2017, 01:54 PM

I am certainly fine with Super Eurovision running during the summer, someone just needs to come forward as a host and with a fully thought out format.

We'll need to get the last few scraps from this season finished (aka lock Rob in a room and force him to do the Buzzfestivalen final) first but once we're done with that then we'll be okay to go!

2008-2017 would be good bc they're the only years I've watched in in kink.gif but I only remember 2 acts from 2008 laugh.gif

Snap. Shady Lady is wholly responsible for turning me into casual viewer to dedicated fanatic.

We shall have to do a new reeducation of older years for people like you, Pete, at some point but that doesn't need to be now (if only because there are many tunes from before 2008). 2008-2017 sounds good, I am on board with this happening.

The only thing I might suggest is potentially excluding the two tracks that have won before (Shady Lady and Euphoria)? Although part of the fun might be seeing how they've aged and if anything's overtaken them who are we kidding they're going to storm this bitch.

Posted by: LexC♀ 17th May 2017, 09:50 PM

The only insistence I have to make is that whatever 'qualification' rounds we have are organised around countries rather than years as I think that way worked better.

Posted by: jafetsigfinns 18th May 2017, 09:28 AM

I'd propose doing 2004-2017 (since the start of the semis) but only because 2005-2007 had some magnificent entries (Congratulations, Show Me Your Love, In My Dreams, Dancing Lasha Tumbai, Forogj Világ, Song #1, Tornero, Let Me Try, Lejla *.*)

Posted by: danG 18th May 2017, 10:01 AM

i'd be up for a plug eurovision education session tbh, I've only watched since 2011 and only really paid attention the last few years. get all the mods to choose 5 songs everyone has to hear or something.

Seeing as it's nearly been a month since the grand final, I think it's time we kicked this off to bring Eurovision back into our lives. I have come up with a schedule for a 2008-2017 Super Eurovish which would take 15 weeks to complete.

Firstly, the heats done by country:
WK1: Azerbaijan, Greece, Israel, Sweden (40 songs)
WK2: Belgium, Estonia, Germany, Slovenia (40 songs)
WK3: Denmark, France, Macedonia, Netherlands (40 songs)
WK4: Albania, Iceland, Malta, Switzerland (40 songs)
WK5: Finland, Ireland, Latvia, Spain (40 songs)
WK6: Belarus, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway (40 songs)
WK7: Bulgaria, Georgia, Poland, Russia, United Kingdom (44 songs)
WK8: Armenia, Croatia Hungary, Portugal, Serbia (43 songs)
WK9: Cyprus, Montenegro, Romania, San Marino, Ukraine (43 songs)
WK10: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Italy, Slovakia, Turkey (39 songs)

WKS 1-6 // Top 2 songs from each country qualifies + the next 2 highest ranked songs
WKS 7-9 // Top 2 songs from each country qualifies
WK10 // Top song from each country qualifies + the next 2 highest ranked songs

That would give us a nice round 100 songs.

WKS 11-14 // 4 'semi finals' of 25 songs - Top 10 of each progress
WK15 // Grand Final of 40 songs.

Is this a system people would be interested in? Or is 15 weeks too long? Any input is welcome, like I said this is just something I've thrown together this afternoon. Also I'm happy to host but if others want to get involved then please let yourselves be known and we can work out a schedule!

Posted by: Iz~ 11th June 2017, 02:54 PM

Yes! I am very much up for this, I'd been missing there being things going on in this forum. 15 weeks is good, that should take us a good chunk of the way through the dry period.

I may be able to run a round or two, let me know if you need that.

Posted by: LexC♀ 11th June 2017, 11:17 PM

Definitely up for this and will gladly step up to host a round or few but would be good to have a good idea of the likely numbers who would be interested in taking part.

Posted by: J▲hq 12th June 2017, 02:11 AM

Yep I'd be up for hosting at least a week too and doing the 2008-2017 period is perfect for me as that's the time period I've been really invested / buying the CD biggrin.gif

Posted by: DNQrella 12th June 2017, 06:07 AM

Yasss let's do it girls~

Posted by: Lorderella 25th June 2017, 06:35 PM

i feel like according to this system we get 90 qualifiers

WK1: Azerbaijan, Greece, Israel, Sweden (40 songs)
WK2: Belgium, Estonia, Germany, Slovenia (40 songs)
WK3: Denmark, France, Macedonia, Netherlands (40 songs)
WK4: Albania, Iceland, Malta, Switzerland (40 songs)
WK5: Finland, Ireland, Latvia, Spain (40 songs)
WK6: Belarus, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway (40 songs)
WK7: Bulgaria, Georgia, Poland, Russia, United Kingdom (44 songs)
WK8: Armenia, Croatia Hungary, Portugal, Serbia (43 songs)
WK9: Cyprus, Montenegro, Romania, San Marino, Ukraine (43 songs)
WK10: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Italy, Slovakia, Turkey (39 songs)

WKS 1-6 // Top 2 songs from each country qualifies + the next 2 highest ranked songs = 2*6*4+2=50
WKS 7-9 // Top 2 songs from each country qualifies = 15*2 = 30
WK10 // Top song from each country qualifies + the next 2 highest ranked songs = 8+2=10

Besides, why do we not have wildcards in the wks7-9 round? they have the most entries in total~

And wouldn't the system be unfair towards countries with more entries in wk10? all of the Australian entries will go through at this point as the absolute minimum is 8 points from each person.

Posted by: AdamAloud 25th June 2017, 06:43 PM

I still make it 100 qualifiers? It should be 10 entries per heat and I still work it out like that?

Wks 7-9 do have more entries (although only 4) but there are 5 countries instead of 4.

And I agree in Heat 10 the voting system will be unfair as it is, we'll have to come up with a way around that but luckily there's 9 weeks to do that!

Posted by: Lorderella 25th June 2017, 06:50 PM

Oh dear, I'm quite a flop. 2 wildcards every week. Okay, I need to spend less time on the internet today.

Posted by: LexC 7th August 2017, 05:46 PM

Okay so, here's an update about a minor tweak of the format, and also an appeal for hosts for Week 8 and 10 if you fancy throwing your hat in the ring

WK1: Azerbaijan, Greece, Israel, Sweden (40 songs) Adam
WK2: Belgium, Estonia, Germany, Slovenia (40 songs) Lex
WK3: Denmark, France, Macedonia, Netherlands (40 songs) Ryan
WK4: Albania, Iceland, Malta, Switzerland (40 songs) Iz
WK5: Finland, Ireland, Latvia, Spain (40 songs) Harry
WK6: Belarus, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway (40 songs) Lex
WK7: Bulgaria, Georgia, Poland, Russia, United Kingdom (44 songs) Jahq
WK8: Armenia, Croatia Hungary, Portugal, Serbia (43 songs) TBC
WK9: Cyprus, Montenegro, Romania, San Marino, Ukraine (43 songs) Jerick
WK10: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Italy, Slovakia, Turkey (39 songs) TBC

WKS 1-9 // Top 2 songs from each country qualifies + the next 2 highest ranked songs
WK10 // Top song from each country qualifies

That gives us a slightly less round figure of 104 songs in the Semi Finals, but it averages out as four sets of 26 which is the equivalent of an IRL Final so it still works out okay. Also it means that the likes of Andorra can't get a wildcard at the expense of someone like Ukraine or Armenia which was a little bit very unfair. It does mean you can only have one of Conchita/Zoe or Casanova/La Teva Decisio through to the next round but, hey, choices had to be made.

Wildcards for Weeks 7 to 9 will be decided by calculating the scoreboards with the bottom finishers (they're all bottoms) eliminated from the competition until all of the countries have the same amount of songs. So, say, your eight pointer comes last in Russia in week 7. This means that your votes are then readjusted so that your seven pointer becomes your eight pointer when deciding who to give a wildcard spot to. Any wildcard decision and countbacks will then be made on the basis of the 'new' scoreboard. Hope I've explained that properly

Ok, that sounds like a good way of dealing with the unequal number of entries per country in weeks 7-9. I've never hosted anything like this before but I'd be very happy to have a go at hosting one of the remaining weeks if that's alright with the organisers

Posted by: LexC 8th August 2017, 05:02 PM

We can put you down for next week if you want?

Posted by: Alpha. 8th August 2017, 08:29 PM

That would be super, thanks!
