So Dan teased a bit of it earlier this year with Pokemon Sun & Moon also being announced and touched upon in E3. The app is out now, and it's pretty cool

Have tried switching my country to get this but I've been getting server issues all day. Looks incredibly interesting though, once I found out what it is I knew I was interested, and I've never really played Pokémon before either.
Seen it hailed across social media as the game that'll get people outside and fit again.

I'm controversially not that much of a Gen 1 fan so they may also factor into it, I can't get as excited over just a few gen 1 pokemon. They'll probably add updates so that all the Gen 1 pokemon will be available, and eventually pokemon from other gens too.

Finally got it working* and it's probably a sign of my inexperience with Pokemon that I'm excited to see my suburb half filled with Pidgeys.
*albeit the 3G in my area is awful and half the time it loses GPS so I may have... obstacles.

My iPhone's a work one, so I'm going to have to wait until it's legally available in the UK app store.
In the meantime I'll just have to satiate my appetite for Pokémon with these bars of soap that I bought online that are shaped like Pokéballs, which as they are lathered down reveal a Pokémon inside -

That is... dedication to the collecting cause.
The fuss with this one is that you go out and hunt for Pokemon in the real world with community landmarks acting as hotspots and that sort of thing, so to play the game you have to go for a walk.

But for now it's a rather fun wave of hype to watch, full of nice stories about spotting other players and people finding out more about their area through it, that sort of stuff.
It's also the ease of getting it, I've never played Pokemon not because I have no interest in it but I've never gotten around to investing in one of the normal games.

I guess this is more for casual fans than die hards, although I have seen a lot of the latter getting into it too. It's good for casual fans or non fans to be able to ease in without having to agonise over a balanced team, movesets, type matchups etc., but I feel like this about a few of the side games (although this isn't a side game like Dash, Rumble or Pokken Tournament really). When you have all that in your head about movesets, balancing teams, items, completing the pokedex etc., when that formula is tampered with I always enjoy it less. But anything that gets more people interested, if they go on to play Sun & Moon, is fine by me

I downloaded this and wondered around for like an hour.
PIDGEY, ZUBAT, DROWZEE GALORE.
I'm a few blocks from the river so naturally thought I would find some Water Pokemon. Just a Psyduck. Boring.
Challenged a few gyms, I was running into Connectivity Issues so lost every time....
I just feel like I look like a moron walking around. Standing still. Catching something... moving around... standing still... catching something.
Someone around me did set off one of those Landmark Incense. Caught a Jynx, but missed out on a Pidgeotto (or whatever its called)

I live on the Quays by a heavily industrial area so I should get an interesting variety I reckon. Think this might coax me back into playing the main series again. Just need to find my advance sp and it's charger so I can break out blue and yellow.

But like Rooney says, even when the novelty does wear off, it's going to have made billions and tbh, I think this is such a brilliant idea. Not just because "it gets people out of their houses" etc... but because the game play lends itself to it really well and I like that they've done something like this and used technology advancements to their potential.

Am building a huge flock of Pidgeys led by a Pidgeotto as that's pretty much all there IS around me. No Pokestops or gyms particularly close, either. Going to have to go a lot further afield to survive.
(have also picked up a Zubat and I did see a Seel which got away but no, otherwise, I'm going full #terraavium here)

Hint for those looking to Evolve/Power Up a Pokemon.
Catch as many as you can of that pokemon (ie. Pidgey) because you're not only given Stardust/Pidgey Candy to Powerup Up/Evolve other Pidgey's - you can also "Transfer" them to earn an additional Pidgey (or whatever) candy. You will lose the Pokemon, but get their candy. BAII 900 PIDGEY'S. I NEED A PIDGEOT.

I somehow stumbled accross a wild Pidgeot (!) and used up basically all of my pokeballs trying to catch it, to no success. And since I got it via Australia it means that I can't go via an in-app purchase. I am cry!

I'm level 4. Caught some myself loads of pidgeys and rattatas, pidgeotto, weedle, caterpie and a jinyx all for good measure.
I was on an Onix trail earlier, but gave up.

I'm in the suburbs on the very edge of a city, if I walk all the way into town I can see a lot of them but my 3G is prone to clunking out at any point when I am out so I haven't been able to visit one for supplies yet.
Seems like you don't need in-app purchases Oliver (well, after it's properly released here that is), unless you really can't get access to any pokestops and run out of balls.

My trip to Universal Studios was a GOLDMINE for Pokemon and Pokestops. There were also two gyms at the CityWalk! (though I didn't get to them, I was only two days into the game then)
I need more Water types. And a Venomoth. I'm working on an Arcanine to join my Marowak tbh

If you've connected it to your Google account I think from what I saw it said you just have to redownload the app and it'll all be there.
On my playing, every time I find a Pokemon that isn't a Pidgey, and this has happened three times now, just as I catch it in the Pokeball the app crashes and I lose it
As a result I'm only level 2 so haven't gotten on a team yet.

Mine is set up using Google, so far I'm level 4 and have found a reasonable range of Pokemon (I've caught so many Pidgey's that I've been able to evolve it , a ton of Ratattas, a Fearow and a Krabby - off the top of my head!).
I don't understand how to get supplies from Pokestops though, every time I get to one it doesn't seem to do anything, just has a picture of whatever building it is...

You need to flick the wheel.. don't worry I had the same problem for ages. Once you flick it it spins and releases the goodies.

We've already had a motorway pile up because of someone trying to catch a Pikachu, two people stumbling across dead bodies in remote areas looking for Pokemon...So yeah, it wouldn't surprise me.
For me, I walked into a tree and into the middle of somebody's cricket game last week.

Big cities give a huge advantage. I thought it was the norm to have a pokestop at ever corner, but that's just big cities (london). When i was in Cornwall on Monday/Tuesday there was like none!

I'm on the verge of crying!! I'm visiting my parents for two days and they live in a hole so the only Pokémon even near me are Weedle and Pidgey (and when I say near me I mean three footprints away)! Those are the only two even on the radar!
There are also no Pokestops anywhere and the ditch (is that the right word?) next to their backyard is not recognized by the map so no water Pokémon either .
Other than that I'm ashamed to say I'm pretty addicted.

Caught a Weedle, Caterpie, Rattata, Pidgey, Horsea and Eevee whilst on my half hour walk round the industrial estate at work.
There are Drowzee, Zubat and Pidgeotto in the industrial estate as well but they are too far away for me to get to and back within half an hour.
Also there are two Pokestops, one at either corner of my section of the estate so managed to nab 6 extra Pokeballs for my troubles.

I'm team mystic - don't really like the sound of it but in French it's called team wisdom (not sure why the pretty dramatic difference but ok) which I like quite a bit more. Didn't want to pick it but the icons for valor and instinct are just kinda gross while Articuno is obvs gorgeous.

Yep having actually been able to play this, still not getting it The app is buggy af to the point of being frustrating and I just don't find it that fun or enjoyable. Literally I've had my friends getting SO pissy at me for saying this, that i'm being snobby because I play the main games, just because they HAVE to play it because everyone else does - half of them are the ones who are like "aren't you a bit old for pokemon!!1!1!" :/ Of course everyone has the right to enjoy this and play it but I'm hating the attitudes from some people when one person dares to speak against it
I appreciate this as a novel way to play, something social and most of all something to get people off their asses and doing something (even if it's still looking at the screen) but I personally just didn't enjoy it and find it kinda crap, especially with all the OTT hype (although that might be the premise, idea and the fact it gets people up and moving which as I said I do appreciate), I'll stick to replying some of the DS games before Sun and Moon come out

What level are you on? You should be able to choose a team when you get to 5 (and you go to a gym to choose one).
I can't even be bothered to take mine to the gym to fight haha. I just wanna catch em alllll.

When you're on AR - theres a little toggle in the top right that says 'AR'. You should be able to turn it off.

Are you sure you have GPS and 3G/4G on?? Because when I don't have location on it tells me the exact same thing, however it's fine when I resolve the problem.

I'm pretty certain - I've been able to do everything I like on the internet with the exception of using Go, so this seems app-specific. That said, the problem seems at least partly unique to me so I'm really not sure what my issue is.
I'm just ignoring it for now because my area seems to be having trouble with the game today outside of my issues, but I hope it's fixed later.

I think it's just real luck of the draw. We were hunting yesterday and at times one of us was on and the other couldn't get on the servers! Just now I was able to get on perfectly fine.. then 5 minutes later it crashes on me!
There's teething problems right across the board. I think some of it the naivety of the creators.. don't think they had an idea how popular the app would be.

i don't get this game. just today i have caught 31 pokemon from my room but when i went out i couldn't find any (apart from a pidgey but it crashed when i tried to get it)

yea there's this road near me that has like 5 pokestops all in a row, so i've been going on 30 minute walks down that road lately hitting up all the pokestops and i usually get a fair amount of pokemon as well. i got a bunch of eevees and i was able to evolve a couple to a flareon and a vaporeon and also got a venomoth today
also met 3 others who were making pokestop runs as well, and spotted a bunch of cars pulling up next to the pokestops (they're all statues) and driving off, and it's v funny when you make eye contact and give each other knowing nods

I caught a Scyther today on a walk with a friend. We both screamed like little girls when it appeared out of nowhere.
Also went to the forest close to me 3 days in a row now and on all days I caught 2 doduos in there. I like how they restrict Pokémon to certain areas.
I'm on 63 caught and seen right now. Almost level 20 so I'm getting ultra balls soon .

Finally caught a Shellder and evolved a Nidorino. Also took over a gym again. I'm so close to evolving my endless Growlithe army and my Meowth (which I named Puddy Tang).

Last night was crazy, there were probably a good 250+ people in the park playing in the park here in Calgary.
Good stomping grounds for Magikarp, I am now 1/4th of the way to getting a Garydos (SP).
The most insane moment was a Cloyster came up. I desperately tried to catch it, using all my Great Balls. Next thing I know, someone was screaming AERODACTYL and everyone just ran over to one of the bridges. It was PACKED. I did end up catching him tho! Even with a regular Pokeball!

I hear you. My 'star' is a Nidorino on 167 and I'm starting to feel a bit inadequate even in my small town with everyone in the big cities talking of multiple 1000+ guys. And I'm in a similar position with the Pidgeys but I'd like a slightly better top Pidgeotto before I go evolving it.

Don't waste your Stardust until you're a high level. If, say, you're level 10 and use Stardust to make your Pokemon stronger, chances are by the time you're level 15 then you'll find a stronger one in the wild again, meaning you've wasted the Stardust.

Team Rocket were clearly in my area today, locked down my first Meowth (which was a main goal of mine because Meowth is adorable) from a rare spawn I'd noticed before but not gotten to in time. An hour or two later though, I noticed what could potentially be my first Ekans, ran out, and ran into an unexpected Koffing, also my first.
This would have had a happy ending, but unfortunately that snake eluded me. Next time.

Some annoying things about the game.
I find the stardust distribution a bit too stingy, and then when you use it it doesn't power up your Pokemon very much.
I think just 1 candy for a transfer is a bit crap too, if it's a high powered Pokemon or a rare or evolved form you should get 2 or 3 candys methinks.
My Pokedex is up to 79. Who'll be my 80th?!

The most f***ed up thing is that the punishment for the church thing is higher than for the border. Up to three years in jail. Russia is officially going to hell. :') Thankfully I do not intend on installing this game anyway so bye

I think most churches do tend to be Pokestops/gyms as they'd have been marked as points of community interest through Ingress already.

This new update is ridic, no footprints at all so if anything you have to wonder more aimlessly :/ They were also supposedly changing how Pokemon spawn so different areas are refreshed with different ones but I'll still be damned if I get anything outside of Pidgey, Rattata, Drowzee, Caterpie and Weedle anywhere near me.

I finally spent a day starting to play this game and made it to Level 4 (almost there, Cody! Venonat was one of the first ones I caught ). I've had a little fun but can't see myself getting too far into it really. All I've done is catch Pokemon, haven't been curious enough to figure out how to evolve them or whatever else you can do.
My church has loads of Pokemon too, there's been a massive increase in foot traffic around there since this game launched and it's fun for me to watch!

I really don't get this change. I can't quite adequately describe this in a concise way but it really sucks as a rural player. The last thing people with hardly any access to pokéstops needed was a change that made them waste more pokéballs on catching things. This doesn't increase the difficulty level in a satisfying way, it just makes continuing to play the game harder. Why any game designer would want to do that is beyond me.

I have not noticed the increased difficulty in being able to catch Pokemon! I have noticed that there is a bit MORE variety too but only slightly. I don't know, I quite like the difficulty in searching them out, it adds to the longevity of it all.
Can they PLEASE introduce trading/battling soon though!?

I only had this problem on Saturday (where I couldn't even catch double-digit Pidgey and 70% of the Pokemon I encountered ran away) and this was before the weird update. I still caught a pretty decent Venonat and Bulbasaur and live in the suburbs so I don't see why this seems to be getting one of the lowest average ratings of any app in the App Store.

Yeah I've not updated yet but I've noticed a sudden increase in the amount of pokeballs I'm using to try and catch relatively weak pokemon.

Bal has a Nidoking. I used razz berries and great balls and it escaped and he used one pokeball on like level -1 and still caught it.

It's probably not huge compared to most (but I claim rural disadvantage, just syk) but I just got round to doing a ton of evolving on an egg (to go up a couple of levels, thank you Pidgeottos), but I wasn't quite prepared for this sudden difference in power compared to everything else I have when I took up my best Drowzee and Eevee. Maybe I can even get into gym battling soon.
I will love my beautiful Vaporeon (didn't even use the name trick, got lucky) and my evil less five Hypno forever until I get something better like all these multiple 1000s anyone in a big city seems to have.

Still going on it casually when I go out or if I want to do some exercise but I bet that'll die off more for me when it properly gets to winter. I mean, it's likely still going strong and will be for some time, we've never had an app that big before (over half a billion downloads worldwide!) so it's not completely dead.
There's talk (I got quite obsessed so got really into reading the online communities and watching vids) about Gen II maybe getting released in November along with other stuff like trading and battling coming out at some point so it might pick up again next summer when it gets warm and there are more things to do in the game from a year's worth of updates.

I finally got an iPhone that's up to date in December so I've finally downloaded this

I think people who caught Chansey last year had enough to evolve into Blissey so that's why there are all those CP 2500+ Blissey everywhere in gyms

I'm fidning Rayquaza difficult to catch. I got the other Gen 3 legendaries straight away but this one has been trickier to catch and I don't live in a city anymore so I have limited opportunities to try and get one.

This Friday is Pokemon Go Community Day where they’re releasing tons of Charmanders everywhere which if you evolve them on the day to Charizard will get a special move called Blast Burn. Hype.

I’ve started playing this again now I’ve got a phone that can reliably run it and I’m really enjoying the additions. They seem to have really improved casual gym battling and seem to be balancing out the three generations nicely (even if I’m still prioritising getting Gen 1 filled out)

I got 4 shiny Charmanders so I'm chuffed about that, Black Charizard looks so cool. Charmande and Charmeleon has really dull shinies though as they are barely different, the first one I caught I didn't even know it was shiny til I had caught it

Well I got enough to... at the least, get myself a good Charmeleon when I do my next round of evolving. There were certainly plenty, I picked up a stunning Charmander for future evolving and I quintupled the amount I already had but I think I caught the tail end of the event only. Gonna need several more candies for a Charizard.

Got myself an Alolan Exeggutor now those things are out (and wow, that model is not designed for this game very well) before I've ever seen, in two years, even a sniff of an Exeggcute. Still, he's my best fighter by over a 100 CP now.

Decided to play this for the first time since starting my job in the city centre rather than in a small town and my god I'm inundated with Pokemon and not enough Pokeballs. I went on my normal lunch time walk and walked past about 20 Pokestops and still found myself running out!
My strongest Pokemon now is a relatively weak 1616 CP Omastar which I've evolved after catching about 20 Omanytes within the space of said hour.

Basically all of the prehistoric Pokemon have been super common this week, I've been very low on balls too. I've taken to even avoiding Kabutos and Omanytes now I've gotten a Kabutops, Omastar and whatever Lileep and Anorith evolve into (saving those two for my next round of lucky egg evolving) in the bag, after having zero of all before this started.

I'm only casually playing this. Usually when I go out for a morning walk I open it up and catch a few Pokemon. Unfortunately not a lot spawns on my walk in most areas.
Seems to be the only way I can evolve some Pokemon. I've only ever caught 2 Charmander, so I have him as my buddy. Seem to always miss the days that provides discounted candy tho... still need another 25 to evolve!
I am fortunate enough to have 2 Pokestops right where I work, so it's quite easy to stock up on Balls.
I do also like the Research Tasks, I've caught the 3 Legendary Birds this way. However, did get stuck on trying to catch a Ditto for weeks.

Starting tomorrow, there will be a Special Research questline for players to complete. The prizes on offer are the usual XP and items, and also the mythical time-travelling Pokemon Celebi. This is the first time that Celebi has been made available for all players, having previously been made available to those who attended the Pokemon Go Fest in Chicago earlier this year.
Anyone still playing solidly enough to get this questline finished?

I've started getting more into Raids since I have a gym in distance. I thought it would be a good idea to train up as most of the research rewards now require a Raid win.
Ive had to hunt down good players to invite to Raids so I even have a remote chance of even winning. Finally won a Kyorge raid... 8 Balls all hitting Great with a Golden Razz Berry. It runs.
I spent a good hour adding people, hunting down Raids, battling and having 14 pokemon faint for it to run.
I think I'll just go back to being a casual player when I'm out for a walk.
I guess that's kind of the point of Pokemon to train up the best team and beat the best. But it's not a game THAT good in investing that much time.

I didn't realize you get 4 Coins per Hour when you have a Pokemon in a gym (up to a maximum of 50 coins in 24 Hours).
I've basically been spamming my Pokemon in gyms for the last few days and I'm just about to hit the $1480 for the Adventure Box.

I've been playing a lot in the Master League. I've developed a decent strategy and team that has resulted in a pretty good win rate. The Master League seems to be flooded with Dragonites, Metagross', Mewtwo's, Rhyperior and Tyranitar's.
My team starts off with Electivire that knows Ice and Thunder Punch as quick attacks, I can basically remove the opponents Protect Shields before their even halfway to charging up their own attacks. If they have a Dragonite first, I basically show Thunder Punch as my first attack, if they block it, they usually don't block the 2nd where I choose Ice Punch, which, Dragonites are weak to.
Alternatively, once I've spammed out their protect Shields, switch to Sylveon (fairy) which will knock out the Dragonite or any other Dragon pokemon ASAP.
Vaporeon is my last pokemon, high defense with another quick attack, usually can knock out the Rhyperior or Tyranitar no problem. Mewtwo is the only challenge I have.

Not quite sure what this means, but hopefully it's a better way to play the Trading Card Game Online.
I used to play the TCG Online all of the time when it first came out, but it became a bit clunky and slow so I ditched it, they also wiped out one of the primo saved decks I had.
