BuzzJack Music Forum _ Indie, Rock and Alternative _ Georgia - Seeking Thrills

Posted by: lewistgreen 28th April 2019, 11:31 AM

My former BJSC flop (in 2017) and then BJSC success for Vülker (in 2018), Georgia, has put out some right bangers recently. Radio 1 are definitely on board and I hope we are now working towards another album!

Strong CHVRCHES vibes but About Work the Dancefloor is too much of a banger to care

Remixes out now

I absolutely adore 'Work About The Dancefloor' wub.gif 'Started' is pretty good too! I saw her live on a whim and she is so good!! She was so lovely and deserves all the success.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 23rd May 2019, 11:10 PM

'About Work the Dancefloor' is seriously tremendous. wub.gif

I'm struggling to work out what that actually means though. laugh.gif

Posted by: lewistgreen 19th June 2019, 09:20 PM

She's featured as a vocalist on a new Africa Express track called 'City in Lights', it's a bit of a bop.

Genuinely so hyped for this. She just feels so fresh and exciting as an artist and performer. Glad to see Feel It make the cut too!

Posted by: Bré 24th September 2019, 08:37 PM

I wasn't that into any of her previous songs but actually really loving 'Never Let You Go'! Has a bit of a CHVRCHES vibe to it.

'Feel It' was good too, quite surprising that it's making it onto a new album now after all this time.

Posted by: lewistgreen 14th October 2019, 08:24 PM

Never Let You Go is Tune of the Week on Radio 1 for Matt Edmondson (covering Breakfast)

Posted by: Steve201 14th October 2019, 09:28 PM

Love how the albums released exactly a year after 'Started Out' started to grow!

Posted by: lewistgreen 8th November 2019, 07:07 AM

MK Remix is out now

Posted by: XmasIslandSnake 20th December 2019, 07:22 PM

I heard 'Never Let You Go' on Radio 1 and yes, I really liked it, I actually assumed it was another of those random drum and bass songs that they playlist every so often. Thought this thread might have been in the dance section of Buzzjack, but I suppose if its a dance song by an indie/alternative act....

Reminds me of Matrix and Futurebound with the production and vocal.

Posted by: ChristmaSteve201 20th December 2019, 11:52 PM

Yeh she is quite electronic. Started Out was the same.

Looking forward to the album!

Posted by: WhoChristmassy 28th December 2019, 10:56 AM

Finally checked Georgia out - absolutely love Never Let You Go and About Work The Dancefloor! Wish I'd discovered her sooner.

Posted by: ChristmaSteve201 28th December 2019, 01:34 PM

Yeh she's been pretty big for me this year especially Started Out after last Xmas!

Posted by: lewistgreen 28th December 2019, 04:35 PM

This is definitely the first album I’m going to be spamming in 2020

Posted by: SLlewellyn 28th December 2019, 06:49 PM

“Never Let You Go” screams future classic! Looking forward to the album.

Posted by: ChristmaSteve201 28th December 2019, 08:24 PM

Yeh ANOTHER January album il be buying!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 7th January 2020, 11:38 AM

'24 Hours' is out now! I'm ridiculously hyped for this album

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 7th January 2020, 06:27 PM

First reviews coming in - 4 stars from the NME!

LOOKIng forward to this on Friday!

Posted by: Iz~ 10th January 2020, 04:14 AM

okay, this is really good - I recognised the name from some pretty decent BJSC entries here and there, but I love this type of synth-pop in general, great new release even if half the songs have been out there for ages and they do sound a little familiar.

'Never Let You Go' and '24 Hours' are brilliant. Those synth instruments on say, 'I Can't Wait' are pretty genius.

Posted by: Doctor Blind 10th January 2020, 08:45 AM

Hmm

Pitchfork:

QUOTE
The album front-loads its two best songs, “Started Out” and the twisty “About Work the Dancefloor,” and nothing thereafter packs quite the same punch.

This is what I feared after hearing “Never Let You Go” which is decent, but less enjoyable for me than the lead single(s).

Posted by: Bjork 10th January 2020, 08:52 AM

but it's a good review, they have a lot of positive and nice things to day about her

https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/georgia-seeking-thrills/

didn't know her dad was in Leftfield

Posted by: Cucumberella 11th January 2020, 12:06 AM

It's weird because I would pretence this Georgia album with the exact same topic sentence as Pitchfork but with much more praise to follow. I thought the album was pretty fantastic start-to-finish - a sweet combination of goofy and cool and very authentic. She might be finding her feet but not in a clueless way, more in the way that a musician wants to explore little pockets of different things. It was hooky and really enjoyable in context.

I wasn't so familiar with the other singles apart from "Started Out" and "About Work The Dancefloor" but I was not disappointed by the others! Definitely give it a go Doctor Blind.

Posted by: januarysalesnake 11th January 2020, 12:17 AM

Am I the only one on here who considers 'Never Let You Go' a drum and bass track laugh.gif , it definitely gives me those vibes in terms of production. I know her other stuff isn't and more synthpop though.

Posted by: Bjork 11th January 2020, 09:10 AM

you have to stop with the obsession with labelling everything
+ also stop editing your posts!!!!!!!! biggrin.gif

The post editor is there for a reason.

Posted by: dandy* 11th January 2020, 09:44 AM

Listening to this now - I had similar fears to Dr B that signs were pointing towards potential disappointment but we’ll see!

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 11th January 2020, 10:44 AM

I loved 'About Work The Dancefloor', but if I'm honest 'Never Let You Go' completely put me off listening to anything else.

Is the album more in a similar vein to '... Dancefloor'? If so I might give it a go.

Posted by: Suedehead2 11th January 2020, 03:25 PM

Her appearance was one of relatively few highlights of the last series of Later... Really impressed with the album on first listen.

Oh I really liked this series as a whole. The guest presenter thing was terrible but was a big fan of four of the lineups which is a lot for me.

Started Out and About Work... are clearly the best two things on it but I enjoyed listening to it, a couple sound like they might end up being duds but that's all - I thought 'Ray Guns' sounded poor in her live sets last summer and that hasn't changed hearing a studio version.

Looking forward to seeing (and meeting) her next week!

Posted by: Liаm 11th January 2020, 04:13 PM

Am I the only one who prefers NLYG to the other singles? laugh.gif Looking forward to giving the album a listen when I get a chance anyway!

Posted by: Bré 11th January 2020, 04:19 PM

I didn't really care that much for 'Started Out' and 'About Work The Dancefloor' (I'll take 'Feel It' over both of them) but loved 'Never Let You Go'!

Posted by: lewistgreen 11th January 2020, 04:46 PM

Yep this album is STUNNIN'

Y'all can appreciate Feel It now after letting it flop in BJSC with 10 points laugh.gif

Yeah maybe I should think more before I post so I don't have to edit, I do tend to edit them a lot and the edit line doesn't look great.

Stunning album! Definitely the type I'll go back to and listen to in full a lot, had it on during my train journey last night and it was perf wub.gif

Posted by: Steve201 12th January 2020, 10:26 PM

Seemed decent on first listen, albums tend to take a while to grow with me!

Posted by: dandy* 17th January 2020, 08:27 PM

This has settled with me now and I'm enjoying it, I'm pleased that it's quite varied and not just a repeat of the main two singles. It reminds me of Tove Styrke's Kiddo album in it's stylings.

Debuts at #24 today with 2,772 sales

Posted by: lewistgreen 31st January 2020, 01:11 PM

And it’s 4 for 4 on the Radio 1 playlist as 24 Hours is added this week cheer.gif

Another remix out today

Posted by: lewistgreen 12th July 2020, 11:03 PM

Listened to the album again just now and it’s such a great body of work. I doubt we’ll get another single but I’m glad 24 Hours was pushed at least.

She’s just released tour tickets and I really want to go, she’s great live-literally a one person set she does everything wub.gif

YES! Saw her support Carly Rae Jepsen and she was just FAB

Posted by: Steve201 13th July 2020, 12:48 AM

Yeh it's a great album and I've added another single to my playlist that wasn't released. Seen her perform on Jools one week and she was playing a lot of instruments herself, was pretty class.

Posted by: Christmasteve201 11th December 2020, 11:13 PM

One of my favourite albums of the year even if it felt like a 2019 album

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 12th December 2020, 08:08 AM

Good to have a studio version of Running Up That Hill, have enjoyed it performed live

Posted by: Bjork 12th December 2020, 09:27 AM

wow impressed with that cover, sounds incredible
I was very skeptical before pushing play, but it's actually very good
her label should totally push it

Posted by: Bré 28th December 2020, 09:36 PM

Actually really enjoying her cover of 'Running Up That Hill' - I guess it's a great song no matter who sings it x (I love Placebo's version as well).

Posted by: Doctor Blind 23rd March 2021, 09:53 PM

She's released a remix of Dodie's “Hate Myself”.

Posted by: lewistgreen 9th April 2021, 07:57 PM

As part of Record Store Day this year, a Remixed version of the album called Seeking Thrills After Hours will be released on June 12th.

I'm hoping they'll add on her Lockdown Linkup collab with David Jackson which Radio 1 Dance seem to be loving right now.

Something is on its way omg. I hope it's ravey

The 12" will be 4 tracks
1. Feel It (After Hours)
