When the Lights Go Down was one of my early favourites of the year! Was so good to hear Cody Simpson on something poppier for the first time in ages.

John Dhali Plain Sight - Chart Statistics NE (22/10/2022) 72-41-32-20-15-15-14-13-12-... Video Commentary This one's still growing on me and could well peak in the new year - it took me a while to fully appreciate this one after how absolutely fantastic Taste was, but this is a great song in its own right, with a nice message and a really cheery instrumentation. When You're Gone was a great release from Shawn. I think his days as a 'big' artist are behind him now though. When The Lights Go Down is awesome too Glad you're a fan of both - you might be right about Shawn, at least he's still making music for us to enjoy though! Thanks Adam Hey Pete 'SPACE MAN' is another strong choice of 'mainstream song of the year' it felt surreal to witness the U.K. doing so well in Eurovision, but Sam certainly sold that performance. My top favourites revealed in your top 200 so far: 185: David Kushner - Miserable Man 177: altrice - places faces 167: Arctic Monkeys - There'd Better Be A Mirrorball 163: Circus Mircus - Lock Me In 127: Gang of Youths - In The Wake Of Your Leave 107: Foals - 2am Justice for Circus Mircus I enjoyed how zany that entry was. I haven't gotten around to The Car yet but 'There'd Better Be A Mirrorball' was a gorgeous, cinematic lead. I need to check out that LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER (great band name indeed) song as I loved Aelandor's BJSC entry by them and other recent song 'We'll Find A Way'! I must've missed 'We'll Find A Way' so immediately going to check that out! Glad you like all these songs as well - and justice for Circus Mircus indeed! Thanks Jade When the Lights Go Down was one of my early favourites of the year! Was so good to hear Cody Simpson on something poppier for the first time in ages. Can't say I've heard too much Cody Simpson myself (although YouTube tells me I have played a few of his songs!) - I should probably try to listen to more of him as his vocals on this are very nice. Thanks Joseph! |

Really liked "Living Without You", "2am" and "Remind Me" from your latest selection.
I really wished "2am" had a long run on my charts, it's my second favourite from them, behind "Exits". |

I did quite like Living Without You albeit not quite as much as the two Sigala UK top 40 hits of the year, it does sound a lot like his older material but not as good - would've been nice nonetheless for it to sneak a top 40 week anyhow.

Some great picks since I lasted commented. Agreed on Shawn's song. Absolutely deserved better 'How Do I Say Goodbye' is lovely too. Also quite like the Arctic's and the Tom Grennan songs too. Sigala I did like and even peaked at #6 but grew off me fairly quickly unfortunately and as a result will do not as well as it seemed in my EOY now. 'places faces' was solid too. I've not checked out Porcupine Trees newer material but I'm very familiar with them as I sang two of their songs at uni back in the day and of course Stevens BJSC Smash 'Pariah' was also excellent too so I'll give them a listen in the new year some point!

Pyramid Park You Got Me - Chart Statistics NE (9/4/2022) 28-29-17-9-10-11-23-27-32-44-53-64-77-96-xx Video Commentary I've been aware of Pyramid Park (real name Pete - no he's not me as I know some joked in BJSC ) for a while, but not really ventured into his music much until now. This is a lovely song though, a decent amount of synth, a really interesting animated video and his melody is spot on as well! Top 100 Chart History Pyramid Park 2022 09 You Got Me 2022 54 Hold On |

It didn't quite crack my Top 10 but still sounds lovely. Top 100 Chart History Teleman 2019 07 Between the Rain 2022 11 Simple Like Us |

Naffymar & Marizu Power - Chart Statistics NE (29/1/2022) 38-29-22-17-20-23-25-29-30-31-33-33-43-53-68-79-xx Video Commentary The first chart hit for UK singer Naffymar - she teamed up with Nigerian singer Marizu for this one, bringing him his second chart hit in my chart (although he's had a bigger one since!). This is a very lively afrobeat-y worship/feel-good track. TAYA For All My Life - Chart Statistics NE (23/4/2022) 76-44-32-23-33-38-34-37-41-48-59-57-49-53-49-55-52-59-68-75-86-98-xx Video Commentary On the surface this song isn't too much, just a very normal-sounding worship song from Australian singer TAYA. However, as you can see from the chart run, it just refuses to grow old on me! As with a lot of worship songs that grab me, this one is about giving it all over to God when life becomes too much to handle and looks uncertain. Top 100 Chart History TAYA 2022 23 For All My Life |

Glad you're a fan of all of these songs - Exits is my favourite Foals track as well, there are a few more I prefer to 2am but it's still very nice! Thanks Sergej I did quite like Living Without You albeit not quite as much as the two Sigala UK top 40 hits of the year, it does sound a lot like his older material but not as good - would've been nice nonetheless for it to sneak a top 40 week anyhow. Fair enough - I prefer it to Melody and Stay the Night, not that either of them were bad though! Thanks Dan Some great picks since I lasted commented. Agree with pretty much all your comments! Not sure how long 'Living Without You' will last in my charts, it being so late in the year has probably helped it be a little higher. I haven't actually heard too much of Porcupine Tree (besides Steven Wilson solo stuff) but really should give some more a listen. Thanks Rob! |

TobyMac Cornerstone (ft. Zach Williams) - Chart Statistics NE (5/11/2022) 89-32-26-21-10-6-4-9-... Video Commentary TobyMac has had a few hits this year, but this is Zach Williams' first big tack in my chart (Christmas songs aside). It took me a while to get into this one but it's fab, and the message of trusting in God for stability (and keeping Him central) in a world which is constantly changing is an important one. Video Commentary Sam Ryder's first single following SPACE MAN, this didn't take off in the charts but I think it's fantastically catchy, showcasing the full range of his voice whilst also being fast-paced and very upbeat and cheery. I also feel like this should be quite a bit higher, but here we go. Some very reflective-sounding vocals and the clapping/drums in the chorus really make this song for me. 'Somebody' wasn't particularly the kind of single Sam should have picked to follow up 'SPACE MAN' with imo. It's ok enough if say I time travelled back to 2005 but not now lol.

Either way, he represented Poland at Eurovision this year with quite a fantastic song. The build up of the instruments throughout is very atmospheric (not sure if that's the right word but it'll do) and the chorus is a real earworm! Top 100 Chart History Ochman 2022 07 River |

The beat is great and the vocals, whilst a bit generic, work very well with the beat. If only it'd done a little better in BJSC! Top 100 Chart History Nothing But Funk 2022 08 So Good |
