In times of misery, despair, and Ed Sheeran, only one obstacle stood between queer liberty and the rise of fascism
That obstacle was one nation's Eurovision selection: a festival of women with hair in shades of magenta never seen in nature, of witness protection programs that send white people in front of a nation to pretend to be from Tanzania, and of 28 tracks which without fail provide at least 20 exquisitely crafted bangers to keep all listeners safe in the deep eurovisionless midwinters.
Bangers that cross cultural boundaries, bangers that appeal as much to office Spotify listeners as they do to hardcore fans who can in one breath name the definitive ranking of all Afro-dite's entries group and solo (for the record: aqua playa > the boy can dance > innan natten är over > det vackraste jag vet). Bangers helmed by some of Sweden's biggest stars that are responsible for the nation's Eurovision selection being more popular than Eurovision itself. Contemplate that.
Last year this festival was corrupted, besmirched by a victorious interloper (the keepers of this divine festival dare not speak his name). But legend holds that every time this precious festival is invaded by unfabulous heterosexuality which rejects its dearest principles, it returns the following year all the stronger: ready to right the wrongs of a cruel world with glitter, key changes and enough chiffon to cause famines in Serbia
let the greatest six weeks of the year begin

oh for fuck's sake this really isn't doing my "come back stronger" theory any favours
Anyway this bitch is kicking things off, having last year attested to Sweden's status as the gayest nation ever, where there's more money in attempting to do Eurovision than in being a professional footballer (and I tell you what not even your average UK NF could get me on board with the idea of a WAYNE ROONEY EUROVISION ENTRY so I'll stay begrudgingly thankful that isn't the case here between you and me loves)
In fairness to him, Put Your Love On Me was a study in the art of making a little go a long way - basic as fuck but actually one of the most insidiously hooky stormers last year had to offer. That said, regardless of whether or not you got on board, it can't exactly be said the whole "hen night kicks its heels off for a night on the tiles at Infernos" vibe to the thing left you DRIPPING AT THE CHUFF for a return.
But here we are and it's opening the damn thing so if I were you I'd probably steel myself for the likelihood of hearing it again once or twice in the next few weeks. He's hooked up with the veteran MF songwriters Larsson and Lundgren, who were responsible for Put Your Love On Me and a LOT of other tracks from Melodipast (including but not limited to the indomitable Alcastar, Alla flickor, Om natten, Hur svårt kan det va, Elektrisk, Heartbreak Hotel, and last year's Maltese entry Walk On Water). So they know their way around a hook. But will Her Kiss be even the slightest bit essential enough to make you not resent a qualification fuelled by people who like their music sounding like a Harvester advert?
02: Adrijana - Amare

William Hill odds on going direkt till finalen (decimal / fractional / projected heat finish): 7.00 / 6/1 / 7th

This woman is apparently 19. I know the Balkans had a hard time of it in the 90s but COME OFF IT LOVE THE WARS WERE OVER BY THEN
This has been put in the death slot of second. And it's not a real surprise - 'hatchet faced Macedonian immigrant bringing hip hop to the Swedish masses' isn't what you'd GENERALLY finger as a formula for Melodifestivalen success. Trust me - there's form for this gamble in Kwanzaa - Lovin Your Feen (the results were so disastrous all evidence it ever happened has been erased from Youtube)
But despite her debut https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpLJmuCpHOg being exactly the kind of 2013-esque trap headache you'd expect to be seventh with a bullet, there are rumblings from the reviews that this is something much more special. Word is this is the kind of synth joy that wouldn't be out of place if Beyoncé went Swedish, and if latest preview single https://open.spotify.com/track/4dDDpmz4eNzoEh4YVvTc3f is anything to go Adrijana's more than capable of marrying a bit of melody and BLESSÉD SYNTH to her hip hop.
This is the one I'm keeping an eye out for as a dark horse this Saturday - but will the lack of name power hold Adrijana back in what's already a deeply competitive heat?
03: Dinah Nah - One More Night

In 2015, I was confronted by an orgy of strobe lights, unflinching beats with force unseen outside total warfare, and a single glowing beacon of magenta. I fell to the ground, shaking, convulsing, crying. The flashing lights made others suspect epilepsy, but a trip to A&E and three screaming fits later the doctor told me: I had actually just been Saved.
It was the greatest thing I had ever seen: an anthem most at home staggering around a Vauxhall dancefloor at 3am under the influence of select substances and unsure if you can even focus your eyesight long enough to order an Uber home, delivered by a siren both clearly unable to dance if her life depended on it but also responsible for the first ever competent vocal delivery of a straight-up club banger at Melodifestivalen.
Thereafter I made it my mission to save others, establishing Chrisdinahnahty and reading from the Book of Nah to all who would listen, taking Robot and Vülker into my flock. The power of a crashed app vote in the final during her performance allowed me to avoid the pain of cognitive dissonance when our sweet Lady of Nah finished last, reasoning that her sheer popularity overloaded an undersupplied app voting network. And after all - if even I couldn't even that Uber home (reliably choosing instead to go back to that mildly sinister 40 year old's place), how were Ms Nah's supporters to be expected to focus their eyes long enough to dial her voting number?
I knew she would return one day to save me. And we have been graced beyond great measure. As all appalling artists know, the only way to defeat neon orange is with neon pink. Displaying a similar predilection for offensive and narrow-minded depictions of Hispanic culture to our new fascistic overlord, our Saviour Ms Nah has allegedly returned in six-inch heels with a homage to the definitive Latinx-aping Scandinavian NF entry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VF9PJVoZbvc. With a NINETIES RAP BREAKDOWN (this paragraph took me about half an hour to write due to intermittent hysterical crying fits)
When the blackshirts come for me I will be playing this on blast. But will Sweden be playing this on blast again beyond this Saturday?

pictured - me when some queens affect disappointment at the forthcoming Charlotte Perrelli entry in my presence
You. Yes, you. You can shut the fuck up. This woman has NOTHING LEFT TO PROVE TO YOU. You come back when you have won Eurovision not only once but TWICE (coincidentally birthing the now popular term "fake news" the second time, when despite winning with all the 12s with the unanswerable apex of Western civilisation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_iSoluR53U some queens decided to spread rumours that she actually finished 18th. be warned that I have pushed people down stairs for sharing this repulsive Russian propaganda.)
I was wary, I admit. On hearing of my queen's return my excitement was so fervent https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=sv&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fbloggar.aftonbladet.se%2Fschlagerbloggen%2F2016%2F11%2Fdet-har-ar-en-sa-dalig-ide-men-jag-skriver-av-gladje-eurovision-fansen-reagerar-pa-charlotte-perrellis-schlagercomeback%2F&edit-text=&act=url, but the news that her inconceivable failure in 2012 with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHi8Q18UGKE had led min Harlot to turn her back on schlager and pick up the acoustic guitar was a kick in the balls so brutal I feared I would never survive during those dark days in December.
But if Britney could get through Iggy Azalea, I could get through this. This woman has paid her dues and needs to have her Joanne moment. And that is fine. Don't you dare say a fucking thing otherwise or so help me god I will HAVE WORDS.

A friend of mine has a close friend who lived an entirely respectable married life in a lovely house until her mid-30s. One day her husband served her with divorce papers. Within two months she was taking cocaine weekly. Within six months she was evicted from her house, having spent all of her mortgage repayment money on the devil's dandruff. Ace Wilder has mustered a career thus far pretending to be the human embodiment of this impulse.
It's done her well so far. Busy Doin' Nothin' took everybody by surprise three years ago, going from heat filler no-hoper to pushing Sweden's sweetheart Sanna Nielsen within two points of victory in the final as the breakout hit of the year. Don't Worry exceeded all expectations and managed to overcome Ace's FOUL CONSTANT MUGGING to somehow win me over completely to this bitch, being so catchy I literally haven't gone a week without listening to it and identifying worryingly deeply with about half the lyrics.
As my friend's story attests to, we can all feel a sense of lost youth when things start to go wrong. Staring the chill wind of her 60s in the face, Ace Wilder has realised it's now or never for her dream of winning Melodifestivalen, and after two anthems dedicated to being an immature hot mess, the lady (and lord knows she hasn't been a girl for a while) is deciding to protest too much for a third time in a row with a track literally called Wild Child (a bit ON THE NOSE you may say but when was the last time a woman who went onstage in front of a nation in a metal breastplate was renowned for subtlety and nuance?)
But this is the problem: if you don't manage it the second time around after your breakout year, there isn't a hell of a lot of precedent for making it beyond that. Shirley Clamp came back to one of the most ignominious and shocking failures with her third bite as a star. Andreas Johnson collaborated with the biggest star in Sweden short of ABBA and got relegated to an andra chansen exit. Måns went into exile and wandered the deserts for six years before returning with something unrecognisable from his first two hits. Put simply, the Swedes haven't demonstrated much capacity for not getting a bit sick of the same old shit three times in.
An
Goodness knows our Ace is a game bird who won't take no for an answer though - and all the more power to her! *.* And with Wild Child she has one of the greatest songwriting duos ever mustered in MF - G:son och Bostrom, erstwhile geniuses behind the likes of Evighet, I'm In Love, and Euphoria. Is it enough to overcome the traditional MF trend of third time unlucky?
07: Nano - Hold On
Text och Musik: Nano Omar, Gino Yonan, ayak, Carl Rydén, Christoffer Belaieff, Rikard de Bruin, David Francis Jackson
Best known for: Had a hit in Sweden in 2015 with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCDYJb9uFJA
William Hill odds on going direkt till finalen (decimal / fractional / projected heat finish): 1.73 / 8/11 / 2nd
William Hill odds on winning Melodifestivalen (d / f): 9.00 / 8/1 (6th favourite to win)
On paper this isn't one I'd get excited about at all - his big hit Perfect Melody sounds like pretty much everything that has sapped my desire to listen to a single Spotify recommendation in the last three years - but someone without much name power doesn't get the pimp slot in a star-packed heat for no reason. Emotional gospel-tinged pop is on offer here, and the whispers are that this is the first track of the year that could unquestionably go all the way. I'm hoping for something close to recent single https://open.spotify.com/track/5hthlWCdTAYmx2HJA1CaJJ, which has the twist of darkness you could see his Weekend-esque voice doing damage with on something bigger.
The test? You lot - if you're on board with something like this by the end of Saturday, we could well have our winner a week in. If so, I'd advise to keep an eye out for the famed ACE FACE OF HATE during the results *.*
---
Here's the projected timetable for the week:
Thursday: Reviews of the rehearsals with thirty second clips of the performances on SVT.se, and a minute-long clip of the studio versions in the afternoon. You can take your impressions with a pinch of salt - in traditional fashion I will be taking them with a pinch of hyperbole.
Friday: Reviews of the second rehearsal and the notoriously hit-or-miss results of the 'gen-rep' poll of audience members at the rehearsals
Saturday: In previous years 2:30 clips of the studio versions of the songs were uploaded to SVT in the early afternoon around 1pm (GMT), but the 1 minute clips this year may see those retired. A livestream of the heat will start at 7pm GMT on svt.se/melodifestivalen
GO GO GO MIN ÄLSKLINGAR
My INITIAL PREDICTION:
DTG: Nano, Ace Wilder
AC: Adrijana, De vet du
05: Boris René
06: Dinah Nah
07: Charlotte Perrelli
Yes, the return of the Qass writeups *.* I've been waiting for this and that's been excellent to give me a low down.
For example I was basing Nano's quality on his looks and was expecting his past hits to sound far better because I expect all people who look like THAT to be Meatloaf tribute acts rather than a Spotify light RnB specialist. Still quite excited to hear what he has to offer though. I'm also interested for Adrijana based on the unknown. For the known I'm kind of just expecting Dinah and Ace to have complete rehashes of their past sounds which isn't the worst thing but nor is it the best. I might even be kindly disposed to this Perrelli experiment, depends on how interesting it turns out to be.
Based on absolutely nothing I'm just gonna go for this:
DTF: Nano, De Vet Du
AC: Ace Wilder, Boris Rene
5th: Dinah Nah
6th: Adrijana
7th: Charlotte Perrelli
"De vet du - Road Trip
Oh f*** off".
The most insightful thing of this write up. They can frankly choke to death with Anton Ewald's old unwashed vibrator.
That Perrelli write-up *.* In fact the whole thing is of course sublime, so looking forward to the next sex veckor.
Predictions wise, I agree with Iz.

I am SCREAMING with VINTAGE MELODIFESTIVALEN JOY at One More Night! *o*
And OMG at Ace's chorus
WHAT A DELTÄVLING
Surprised Nano has gone Rudimental rather than tropical but it sounds like it could be a moment! Ace's offering seems good as always.
Sounds like I could be filing Road Trip right next to Bada Nakna for 'should be shit but is amazingly trashy'.
Nano and Ace sound like they've brought it too.
Boris Rene: Wow, I don't 100% hate this...
De Vet Du: Um. No thank you?
Madamme Perrelli:
Ace Wilder: Ace Wilder meets RuPaul? *.* THIS IS GREAT
Nano: Very NOW. I can see this taking the whole heat.
Adrijana: Someone had to come last I guess? Great beat tho.. This could beat Perrelli.. K the more I listen to it the more I like it... damnit.
DINAH NAH: It's no Make Me Lah Lah Lah.. But.. I do really like it. A bit simple tho?
Damn this is a great heat. Can't De Vet Du just come 6th with Nano/Ace/Dinah/Boris in the mix for DTF and AC?
Woah, Ace's song sounds mega <3
Hold On sounds good, but I feel like it's going to be one of the favourites that i never massively love. The Rudimental type sound is only good in small doses for me.
Perrelli's sounds like it could be quite nice in its own way I guess
I was expecting more from Adrijana but will wait to hear the whole thing.
Dinah's dated generic pop has never won me over as much as it seems to appeal to everyone else
Not going to comment on De Vet Du or Boris Rene yet...they sound nice enough for what they are I guess.
Fantastic write-up as ever btw Tirren.
DINAH NAH OH MY GOD YASSSSSSSSSSSSSS *.*
Ace, Adrijana and Nano all sound great too but goddamn it DINAH HAS DONE IT AGAIN.
FANTASTIC HEAT.
Nano is the only one where I think I need to hear the full three minute song to get it entirely but even then I'm pretty sure that's a lock in. I am actually fairly confident that Ace still has enough good will/fans behind her and a strong enough song to equal Lindgren's 3 DTFs from 3 heats.
De vet du will probably do a Samir and Viktor in so far as they'll go to AC, become a massive Spotify hit, win AC comfortably and then get sunk by the international juries come the final. I think the 'comedy' songs tend to have a cieling of about third place unless they're in the pimp slot like C**********a and they don't seem to have QUITE as big of a name/rep behind them that S&V had (and realtalk, none of them measure up to S&V in THAT respect save for maybe the decent 7 on the middle right).
Below the Nano/Ace/De vet du top three is where I think it gets interesting. Before I heard the songs I'd have probably gone with Boris also getting an AC place, Dina in fifth and then Adrjanna and St. Perelli bringing up the rear but Boris does not seem to be living up to last year's song at all (and that rehearsal clip is UBER LAME). Dina is all I hoped for and is all the more *.* worthy for that (and I suspect the 90s style rap will be the earth shattering moment I am calming my minge in preparation for) and Adrjanna is very of the now/feasibly a Spotify hit that I don't think it's as dead in the water as it might have been.
Fair play to her holiness for doing this on her own terms but I will respectfully look elsewhere for my moments this week.
Bad news - Ace Wilder's dye job has turned her into Malena Ernman
I think she looks ok for 68!
I think it's good if she plans to win then
Jesus Christ did she sell her 'youth' to the devil for a third chance at MF glory?
At this rate by the time we get to Ukraine she'll look like Kellyanne Conjob.
Fab write up as per Ti!
WILD CHILD OH MY SWEET JESUS
Based on the clips!
Ace Wilder > That chorus is a stormer! But then, I expected nothing less! <
Nano > How very Rudimental/Sigma! <
Dinah Nah > I like this. But it's been done before and better. <
Adrijana > Again I like this. But this sort of thing has been done before... <
De Vet Du > <
Charlotte Perrelli > I hope this kicks in. Coz this is BLANNNNDDDD! <
Boris Rene > Nathan Sykes album cast off <
Ace Wilder really sticks out there. As does Nano. I can see the latter winning the whole thing already.
And a stupendously brilliant write up. Love it.
I am enjoying the topless one in De vet Du. The song is good too.
I suspect they and Nano will go DTF.
Boris to go to AC with one of Ace and Dina. Sadly I cannot see both going through.
Oh, it sounds like Ace has BROUGHT IT.
Great write-up Tirren, as per usual, has really taken my excitement levels up another notch!
I'm in the MOTHER NATION loves and the mags are going ALL OUT for OUR CHARL *.*
Step aside Anna Book, the true tabloid drottning is in town *.*
Yasss! Are you there to watch the first heat live?
Only five weeks until my own trip to the best place on earth *.*
Ugh i really need to get my life in order to do this next year *.*
The hit and miss genrep poll
1. Nano - Hold On 292 röster 40,6 %
2. Boris René - Her Kiss 124 röster 17,2 %
3. Ace Wilder - Wild Child 120 röster 16,7 %
4. De Vet Du - Road Trip 103 röster 14,3 %
5. Adrijana - Amare 36 röster 5 %
6. Dinah Nah - One More Night 34 röster 4,7 %
7. Charlotte Perelli - Mitt liv 11 röster 1,5 %
Poor Charlotte! Will definitely be interesting to see who gets the second DTF slot!
http://www.svt.se/melodifestivalen/lyssna-pa-latarna-i-goteborg-deltavling-ett-av-melodifestivalen-2017#12246130_29_2
QUEENAH NAH *.*
I really wouldn't be overly ecstatic with Hold On winning Melodifestivalen. It's perfectly good, but it really is a 4th single type release from Rudimental/Sigma.
I guess the sound is less overdone in Sweden so probably sounds more unique though?
*.* ACE
Ace's song is great, Road Trip is way better than the 1-minute clip suggested too, very Avicii on speed.
Charlotte's song is a real bore, I'm gutted Maybe a grower I guess, after many many listens perhaps.
How is that borefest from the same QoL that gifted the world it's national anthem:
This is such a strong heat, I at least like all the songs, even Harlot's offering isn't terminal like I feared. 'Amare' is surprisingly good too, a shame she's been thrown under the bus going on second.
PREDICT
DTG: Nano, De Vet Du
AC: Ace Wilder, Boris René
5th: Dinah Nah
6th: Adrijana
7th: Charlotte Perrelli
WANT
DTG: Dinah Nah, Ace Wilder
AC: De Vet Du, Adrijana
5th: Nano
6th: Boris René
7th: Charlotte Perrelli
Boris' song sounds like about four cheesy 80s songs rolled into one, it's dated but catchy. Not hugely my sort of thing but I can see why it's a possibility to go DTF (though I'm pretty sure it would then finish 10th-12th in the final).
Adrijana's is very decent too, wouldn't mind seeing that progress to AC but I imagine it's more likely to finish 6th or thereabouts (Charlotte has 7th all sewn up...)
Oh and Dinah's is much better for me than her last entry, very 90s with a modern twist and that rap is quite iconic!
Wild Child is incredible! Really hope it goes through!
Will listen to the rest later!
Ace & Dinah are AMAZING.
01 - Ace Wilder - It's Brown Girl In The Ring and Alphabet Street sung by someone far too desperate to convince the world that she's having a great time - and it's completely fucking brilliant.
02 - Dinah Nah - "my lips are on fire": this is everything I want from a loving tribute to getting chlamydia after a fingering at Magaluf 2004 and would definitely go direkt in Essexfestivalen. I don't see an audience for this tonight whatsoever and it's all the better for it. LOVE THE RAP VERSE DINAH NAH 4EVA
03 - Charlotte - I hope she throws a scrap to her loyal fans and performs this astride a glittered unicorn or something, but frankly if I can still come back to Melodifestivalen every time it spits in my face I can't abandon the queen over this given it's really nice in a 'staying at home on a rainy day' kind of way
04 - Nano - that drum n bass breakdown ruins what's otherwise an excellent track I wouldn't ordinarily be here for. THIS SOUND WAS TIRED FOUR YEARS OLD WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU SWEDEN
05 - De vet du - Rongedal with a creatine addiction going EDM is on paper the opposite of everything I enjoy in this world but for some reason I'm not hating this
06 - Adrijanna - this reminds me a lot of those leaks you used to get where they'd just loop the first thirty seconds for the whole thing
07 - Boris René - I didn't enjoy Happy the first time.
This Kiss is SO much better than Boris' last entry, it's got a huge amount of personality and is almost modern-day Bruno Mars in a few ways.
Amare sounds fairly strong with some really good instrumental bits in it and the words sound gorgeous, but it's gonna get lost in this heat.
Dinah sounds more my thing than Make Me. It's in that sort of niche where I bloody adore Cash Cash songs for capturing joy in modern dance but wouldn't really admit it to anyone.
THE BREAKDOWN on Road Trip! I'm here for that and then some. Rap is decent too but that EDM bit sounds so fantastic, I can tell I'll be repeating that a bit.
Mitt Liv, if this wasn't by Charlotte it'd be getting ignored by everyone. There's a track like this every year and it goes down so hard. It's sweet, actually, but in a heat like this, no thanks.
OH YES at Ace, this was everything that I wanted Don't Worry to be, which makes that seem really uncharacteristically weak in hindsight. Good progression, she sounds like Avril a little in some places (there's more than one similarity between them), in others, her own thing. Please let this be DTF. Like I didn't think I'd be getting excited over this but I am completely!
Nano sounds great too, obviously very Rudimental but he has a strong enough voice to carry it.
WHAT a heat though.
Ranking:
1. Ace Wilder
2. De Vet Du
3. Nano
4. Boris Rene
5. Dinah Nah
6. Adrijanna
7. Charlotte Perelli
Boris - I actually like this a lot more than I thought, it's quite Guy Sebastian circa 2009 - it reminds me a lot of Like It Like That. It is quite dated though and would be bottom few filler in the final.
Adrijana - much better than I expected, nothing amazing but solid enough. This heat is too strong for me to really love it though and I won't be too gutted when it inevitably crashes out in 6th place.
Dinah Nah - FINALLY she is worth the random worship on here That rap is one I'll be learning by tomorrow, iconic. I wish this was in a random country like Moldova's final in a way, so it would have a fighting chance, I think it sadly will be 5th but I'll definitely be taking and treasuring this one, it's so 90s *.*
De vet nu - low-key living for the instrumental chorus bit *.* V dated but a hell of a lot better than it is on paper.
Charlotte - just stop love
Ace - YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASS QUEEN. I had set up to fall as the other two were so brilliant but this is anthemic, one listen and it's already lodged in my head.
Nano - yep, as already said it's very 4th single from Rudimental ft. John Newman with a more bearable voice. That's fine and listenable but not something I want to win Melfest or smash this heat even. Perhaps it will grow as it inevitably progresses and becomes a front-runner.
Think:
DTG: Nano, Ace
AC: De vet nu, Boris
5th Dinah
6th Adrijana
7th Charlotte
I think it's quite clear which will be top 4 and which will DNQ but Ace and De vet nu are interchangable I think. Of course Melfest is seldom so predictable.... *Ace comes last and Adrijana smashes the heat*
Want:
DTG: Ace, Dinah
AC: De vet nu, Boris
5th Nano
6th Adrijana
7th Charlotte
Indeed, a very strong heat and I hope this standard continues for the rest of the heats I don't really dislike any of them, Charlotte's is dull but nice enough, it's just such a no-hoper I don't know why she's bothering
Not long to go now.
I think the top 5 is obviously going to be Boris, Dinah, Ace, De vet Nu & Nano and the bottom 2 of Charlotte and Adrijana. How the top 5 finish will be interesting.
I think that the hetros of Sweden could cause a Boris, Nano and De vet Nu fight for the DTF places. With one of those joining Ace or Dinah in AC.
HARLOT will once again ride in and SAVE MELODIFESTIVALEN and any suggestions to the contrary are patently untrue and based in jealousy and hatred.
SHAKING AND CRYING
Hasse already selling the entire thing to me! And the others too, so glad this craziness is back in my life.
Start as you mean to go on! That could scarcely have been more over the top *.*
And reducing Trump to a joke within 10 minutes, yaas *.*
MISSED THE FIRST 10 MINUTES
BUT I'M HERE
AND EXCITED, IT'S BAAAACK.
Why can't I go fullscreen
Whatever they've done to this stream it's working like a dream for the first time EVER for me
His vocals sound very weak. It's a catchy number though, wouldn't mind this going AC. On first listen, not as strong as Put Your Love On Me but I actually think it'll have better lasting power. An earworm, for sure.
I have chromecasted this to my TV and I am so happy.
1. Boris Rene- Her Kiss 4/10
Boris has a pleasant song, I'd rather it stayed in the semi however.
I was really enjoying those jarring camera pans.
Song's sounding like a hit.
That was pretty good, I like it a lot more than last year and it was a great opener.
Boring. Next please.
I was looking at Edin all this time tbh.
One for the studio version clearly
She's not bad but there's no real wow factor which is especially needed from a new artist.
1. Boris Rene- Her Kiss 4/10
2. Adrijana- Amare 1/10
As much as I love this song (sounds so current rnbish) the presentation was weird and vocals were terrible. Charlotte is finishing above this one for sure.
She was definitely struggling to sell it live. It's a good song in there but yeah, not going to do much. I've completely forgotten the image of the stage performance already.
COME THRU QUEENAH NAH *.*
THAT WIG
I REALLY WISH I could get on board the D NAH hype train, it looks like so much fun but the music is SUB SUB PAR
I'm half on board with this because it is fun (especially that rap!) but she cannot do live singing. I'm definitely gonna love this in studio but her nocals are harming it.
I AM SCREAMING. GODDESS. BOWWWWWWWW
Monday morning I'm STRUTTING into work with my PINK WEAVE
YAASSSSS DINAH YAAAASSS. It's so Bombo, I can't not be SO IN LOVE.
1. Boris Rene- Her Kiss 4/10
2. Adrijana- Amare 1/10
3. Dinah Nah- One More Night 9/10
Dinah, queen of the world. This is the passion I am looking for!
Ok that rap SOMEWHAT win me over, I'll wait for the studio version to judge for real but already way above Make Me.
Ugh. They seem so abhorrent as PEOPLE
Oh JESUS GOD NO
wasn't TRUMP ENOUGH
The stage is going to need to be HOSED DOWN after this explosion of testosterone
Oh this is even worse than I imagined. It's like a British attempt at a Swedish joke Eurovision entry. Die please.
De Vet Du literally have me written all over them after my Samir & Viktor stanning, haven't they? And equally as predictably, I freaking LOVE THIS.
De Vet Du MASTE GAR VIDARE. Such a BOP
This does nothing for me and they managed to be more obnoxious than Samiktor. Who woulda thunk
SHE HAS A CAPE
I do not care what happens after this, the old HARLOT is still in there *.*
1. Boris Rene- Her Kiss 4/10
2. Adrijana- Amare 1/10
3. Dinah Nah- One More Night 9/10
4. De Vet Du- Road Trip 7/10
Acceptable bop. Obviously trash, but you need a good bit of trash in life. If it gets to the final via AC, I will be pleased.
She's been attending the Madonna school of guitar playing clearly
If you're going to pick up a guitar Charlotte, do something USEFUL with it and hit some heavy chords
That heart is as dead as this song. At least we'll always have Hero.
Oh my god. THIS WAS AMAZING. She doesn't give a f*** if people don't vote for her now YOU CAN SEE IT IN HER EYES
1. Boris Rene- Her Kiss 4/10
2. Adrijana- Amare 1/10
3. Dinah Nah- One More Night 9/10
4. De Vet Du- Road Trip 7/10
5. Charlotte Perrelli- Mitt Liv- 2/10
Sorry that was a snooze. A well sung snooze. Even the audience didn't seem bothered.
I mean it was lovely, and I adore her voice on anything so I know I'll be playing it loads (tonight) but yeah she's clearly just here to flog a few copes if her album and I'm fine with that as if THE GIRL came 5th clearly nothing else was going to be a ticket to success again
Natasha Bedingfield eat your heart out *.*
The chorus *.*
I absolutely adore this, so much more my cup of tea than Don't Worry, this whole package is fantastic How has she not broken out of Sweden yet?
What a perf, what a song, DIREKT TILL KYIV ACE WILDER
This is everything I want in a Melfest pop song, fun and exciting and harking back to when Ace was merely 35 *.* She is truly back.
THAT WAS SO SPOT ON <3
Don't Worry took time to grow but that is the Ace I love, no big staging, just commanding the stage with such natural presence and likeability. What a song aswell, hopefully a third time going straight to the final.
Fantastic song. Three times in a row! Yassss
Nano's song was written by like 20 people lmao
1. Boris Rene- Her Kiss 4/10
2. Adrijana- Amare 1/10
3. Dinah Nah- One More Night 9/10
4. De Vet Du- Road Trip 7/10
5. Charlotte Perrelli- Mitt Liv- 2/10
6. Ace Wilder- Wild Child 8/10
Probably her 3rd best MelFest song. Still very good though.
Oh that wipes the floor with both her previous entries (and I ADORE Don't Worry). Such an immense pop hook and performed very well, she's even a little better vocally this year. YAAS.
Well isn't this guy a (large) barrel of laughs
The choirs! The pulling back drop! I didn't realise I missed 2012 this much. If this is a contender, I'm totally fine with that being the case.
Ugh this sounds very WINNERY. It isn't working for me at all but it just feels like a major threat.
1. Boris Rene- Her Kiss 4/10
2. Adrijana- Amare 1/10
3. Dinah Nah- One More Night 9/10
4. De Vet Du- Road Trip 7/10
5. Charlotte Perrelli- Mitt Liv- 2/10
6. Ace Wilder- Wild Child 8/10
7. Nano- Hold On 8/10
Well this is a lot better than I was expecting. At least I now cant begrudge it going DTF. It's very Sigma.
Nano's song is good but it's not amazing and certainly not a Eurovision winner.
It's like a lesser version of Sigma's Cry! But it's walking this heat and will be top five in the final.
Quite a huge performance and staging, but I hope its hype dies off a bit in the next few weeks.
This is so winning the entire thing, isn't it? The insteumental part in the chorus is quite anthemic and is guaranteed to get many voters WHO DO NOT KNOW ANY BETTER
Can Loreen try and not make it happen please.
Hold On is pretty good, I thought it was gonna sound a few years late by what people were saying here but it still feels current. Very strong, could imagine hearing that outside of Melodifestivalen for sure. Not something I'd naturally go back to just yet but I think it'll grow and it's a certain qualifier tonight.
It definitely feels very current (as well as having half a foot in a few years ago) and it's performed very well and it'll probably grow on me as most songs like that do, but I just want a CHORUS. Is it too much to ask for?
Predix

Oh whoever read out those numbers. I mean wtf is with that 9 pronunciation hun
My ranking:

DTF: Ace and Dinah
AC: Nano and De Vet Du
5th Charlotte
6th Boris
7th Adrijana
Predict:
DTF: Nano, Boris
AC: Ace, De Vet Du
5th: Dinah
6th: Charlotte
7th: Adrijana
Amare coming last due to how completely inessential that performance was.
Want:
DTF: Ace, Nano
AC: De Vet Du, Boris
5th: Dinah
6th: Adrijana
7th: Charlotte
Nano is obviously going DTF. I'm praying for Ace! I mean she'll go to AC at least but I'd love her to be safe in the final. Boris Rene beating her into the final would be such a huge injustice (I can live with De Vet Du doing it though).
The other three are DOA, poor Dinah.
Adrijana seems like a real waste of a slot, there must have been better new artists/songs to push than that from all the submissions?
Is Iz having an orgasm at this moment?
Memories of Bed On Fire, what a song <3
Hasse is quite iconic!
I did not need to see Hasse Andersson in leather.
Predict:
DTF: Nano, Ace
AC: De Vet Du, Boris
5th: Dinah
6th: Charlotte
7th: Adrijana
Not even going to bother with what I WANT as it's so off the mark (Charlotte, Ace, Dinah and Boris through in that order oops).
I feel like I've had my EVERY SENSE violated
I was hoping for a Lenny Kravitz esque leather pants ending but we would have been scarred for life
DTF: Ace, Nano
AC: De Vet Du, Dinah
5th: Boris
6th: cHARLOTTE
7TH: Adrijana
YÅÅÅÅÅSSSSS SLAY ME QUEENAH
Oh D, you're obviously 5th place cannon fodder love
Most obvious Top 5/ Bottom 2(or 3) ever?
Charlotte not even bothering to look at the camera. Love it
Adrijana wasn't last. Surprisingly!
Charlotte giving ZERO FUCKS *.*
Road Trip at second stage voting?? Lol!!!!
Oh lord, poor Harlot, the ultimate flop
I mean who actually whipped out the app to vote for Adrijana? You'd have thought Harlot's admittedly dwindling fanbase would have furnished her with the few thousand votes needed to beat THAT at least...
I fear that Dinah would've been 4th in the first round, but now will lose out on televotes to Boris PROVE ME WRONG SVERIGE
For comparison, Charlotte was my SECOND FAVOURITE song this week (to be fair that's a flop for her as Hero and The Girl were light years better than anything else in their respective years but shhh)
WHAT FRESH HELL IS THIS
I am not here for this!
Sweden literally out of ideas after 'Love Love Peace Peace' it seems.
My own ratings:
01 / Ace Wilder - Wild Child - 9.5/10
02 / Dinah Nah - One More Night - 9/10
03 / De Vet Du - Road Trip - 9/10
04 / Boris Rene - Her Kiss - 7.5/10
05 / Nano - Hold On - 7.5/10
06 / Adrijana - Amare - 5/10
07 / Charlotte Perrelli - Mitt Liv - 3/10
didn't realise i hadn't posted that~
This interval act slayed the hell out of me. So good
Omg the way that ugly Det vet du guy was touching the bicep of DJ Hulk guy! I need a gif
Oh, wow, I am GOBSMACKED...
What a surprise. A song written by 47 people and given a big budget of course was always finishing in 5th
Knew Hold On would go through.
Clearly Sweden has not been subjected to enough Rudimental and Sigma over the past five years. Missed opportunity for those acts, who knew they were such drum 'n' bass lovers?
Yay they've done the obvious one first. Sometimes they do it the other way round and it sucks out all tension. Very good qualifier.
I am glad they did the most obvious DTF first. It confuses me when they do it second.
Prediction for finale or bust as Ace and Dinah.
Although it could be De Vet Du so they have time to set the stage?
Anyway, it's a perfectly good song and probably my 3rd/4th favourite in the heat so I'm not disappointed at all, it just doesn't deserve to landslide this semi in the way it inevitably has done.
Boris deserved AC for sure
Shit. Bye Dinah
SWEDEN YOU bast*rdS
Oh dear
Dinah's FACE *.*
So cruel
Yaas at Ace going DIREKT, such a smash
Poor Dinah but YES at the best song correctly going straight to the final.
YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Cannot WAIT to see this in Stockholm *.* Thank god Boris didn't go straight through, hopefully he somehow won't get through AC too, but I won't bank on it, De Vet Du should do though.
The way Dinah turned around to her crew when De vet du were announced. She was probably saying "okay, can i leave already then"
Heterosexuals putting Boris through over Queen Nah Nah!
Swedish gays need some slapping. And education
Boris at AC!!!
Road Trip at AC?!?!
YAAAAAAAASSSSSS ACE DIREKT TILL FINAL!!!!!
Delighted to see Ace go straight to the final, 3/3 for her! What a track record.
Dinah's face though </3
I NEED WILD CHILD IMMEDIATELY, NOT IN 3 WEEKS TIME
Oh yeah, I forgot that DTF songs won't be released for another few weeks...
That was a great opening show with two strong finalists. I'm quite enjoying this host combo too, David Lindgren is far more charasmatic as a presenter than a singer (he amusingly also looks like my housemate too).
I am done putting my heart out and supporting Queens but have this heart returned back to me all bruised and COVERED IN MUD, TEARS AND DESPAIR
(until next year week)
Shame about Dinah but I was kinda expecting it so I guess I braced myself emotionally. Absolutely the right two went DTF though so that's fabulous.
Ahh melfest, how I've missed you!
I think she just needed to go a bit more 'wild', Make Me was so manic which matched her personality, it was just electric. This is a fantastic pop song but I feel like Dinah needs something a bit more crazy to elevate her whole brand.
Footballers even RUIN Melodifestivalen
Results were about right, except I'd like to have seen Charlotte through to AC instead of De Vet Du even though I knew it was impossible. Mitt Liv was such a pleasant surprise, really enjoyed it and I'm not particularly a Charlotte fan
Dinah rightly ditched and lol at her look of disgust when she was against Ace in the final battle... you should have got a better song and a better voice love! (Although One More Night is more tolerable than Make Me La La La)
One More Night is on Spotify UK already...
No sign of Charlotte or Adrijana, both of which I'm just DYING to play again.
Are songs that go to Andra Chansen not being released on Spotify this year? I thought they were last year...
Oh okay, ignore me, Boris is on Spotify so that is still the case. Looking forward to Road Trip landing on there.
Humming Wild Child and keep thinking of Ben Haenow's Second Hand Heart. I knew that chorus melody was similar!
Is it just me who isn't hyped over Ace Wilders offering? I'm liking the sharp, brash verses but the chorus might as well have been lifted from a Pixar soundtrack. Disappointing as 'Don't Worry' was so, so, so stupendously marvellous.
"Hold On' is o-kaaayyyyy. In 2013.
Hmmm, roll on week 2.
I have SO MANY EMOTIONS. Heartbroken for Dinah but it was such a rollercoaster - I went in expecting it to stone flop, touched PURE JOY when the heart started exploding, touched FURTHER JOY when she graced us with that iconic rap breakdown (then classic MF schadenfreude at it immediately killing the heart), and then had a vague horrifying sense of doom that Boris would probably get enough votes to shove her out (there was no way De vet du weren't getting through and I was totally at peace with that because it's so much fun - it's basically Dolly Style - Rollercoaster FOR STRAIGHTS)
Anyway, it's another 5th place for the ages. And on the upside we got the sheer wonder that is Wild Child, which is so catchy I think I may DIE SINGING IT (or being murdered by randomfurlong for my constant double handclapping into UHOHUHOHUHWHUHOA (BABY I'M A WILD CHI-*impaled by tomahawk*
Gah, I can't get enough of Wild Child. Definitely her most instant song so far seeing as it took us all a few listens to properly latch onto Busy Doin Nothin.
'Wild Child' feels a lot more like what I'd quintessentially label as an Ace Wilder track since it's got more than a hint of Icona Pop for me with the brash, chanting elements to it, which Busy Doin' Nothing is clearly influenced by too. 'Don't Worry' by contrast feels a lot more like her trying to do house-influenced dance pop which is close to but not quite the genre I think she excels at.
Yaknow, not gonna get ahead of myself here, but if The Foo are disappointing/bomb with the International Juries and Loreen's track is too "out there" for a mainstream audience in quite the same way...then all of a sudden it gets very interesting!
It's Icona Pop doing Boney M basically. I think Don't Worry only feels quintessential Ace because of the standard theme running through all of them of being an UTTER MESS!
It's a relateable theme, what can I say?
Wild Child is even better with that performance for me, it feels like a song that only she could sing as it's SO Ace, and that is what I really want from a Melfest song. Something unique but accessible and captivating with a chance to do well at Eurovision, because Sweden is one of the countries that can really do that. Fingers crossed she has a real chance this time, they do say third time lucky! *.* With what feels like endless ballads so far it would definitely give an injection of energy to proceedings.
And god I loved Dinah too, I got so caught up I ended up really thinking she could pull off a "shock" AC in the place of Boris
I think "Wild Child" feels not just cross-generational, but also something which will translate on a continental level. If this wins, it could go all the bloody way.
While it doesn't move me the way "Don't Worry" did (I'm a total sucker for 90s piano house), there's no denying this is a savvy, well packaged song.
Something about Hold On just didn't blow up how it could've done last night but I get the impression Wild Child has really impressed everyone and created this whole "oh, THIS Ace is back" as this is the same sort of vibe that Busy Doin' Nothin created. It might struggle to keep momentum up a little too but in a night where Nano should've felt like the resounding winner and perhaps a future MF winner, I don't think he's created the same buzz.
Not sure I'd agree that it'd instantly be Nano's in that case. I think there's another tier of the likes of Lisa Ajax/Mariette/Benjamin Ingrosso/Robin Bengtsson/Jon Henrik/Wiktoria who'll all be there or there abouts or even somebody who comes completely out of leftfield. I actually reckon both Ace and Nano were clear of De vet du (not entertaining the notion that they weren't 3rd) by some distance and if anything it was probably narrower between the two of them than between 2nd and 3rd.
Hold On is just... there. I think perhaps it's more of a UK sound and hasn't been over saturated there as much sounds fresh to the Swedish audience, as I don't think Rudimental or Sigma have really made an impact there.
I think there are enough big names with hype behind them for at least one or two of them to battle with the inevitable random challenger that comes from nowhere, I am hoping that Lisa, Mariette and Loreen are all in the mix at last along with Ace! Of course we don't know the songs yet but looking at that whole list of names, it's implausible that ALL of them will flop or be really disappointing leaving Nano to storm it Nano will probably be this year's Constellation Prize, I remember people thinking that might do it at the start of the heats last year and it just lost some steam and only ended up in 5th.
I think Nano and Ace were pretty far ahead but I'd be very surprised if Nano didn't win last night by a clear distance.
I also reckon Constellation Prize probably would've won if it hadn't been for Frans.
I don't really get that, I'm sure it'd just have been Human or Save Me instead.
Did we get everything on UK Spotify/iTunes last year? (I seem to recall that being the case...)
De Vet Du, Charlotte Perrelli and Adrijana are still absent and my playlist looks a bit empty with just Boris and poor brave Dinah.
I've read that De Vet Du's label isn't releasing the song internationally until all the songs are out, don't know about Adrijana and Harlot.
I've had them since Saturday night. You need?~
I think Ukraine needs a bit of ROAD TRIP. I pray it gets through AC so I get to see it live, the performance is so fun.
1. Dinah
2. De Vet Du
3. Ace
4. Adrijana (think I must've been the biggest fan of this having read back through the thread)
5. Nano
6. Boris
7. Charlotte
Wild Child is great and loads better than Don't Worry but Busy Doin' Nothing is still her best.
'Amare' is on UK Spotify now.
If anyone has the MP3s for Queenah and Boris, please feel free to send them my way, thanksss
