Top 50 Chart Commentary

It's another week at #1 for Kungs and Cookin' On 3 Burners, who spend their seventh week at the top. And I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it stays at #1 for the rest of the summer, seriously that is how slow this chart is at the moment. The entire top five are non-movers, giving Alan Walker his sixth week at his peak of #4.

The top seven would have been non-movers this week if it weren't for Major Lazer, whose massively hyped 'Cold Water' is set to debut at #1 in the UK this week. It also gets a good debut position on this chart, entering at #6. Whether it can maintain this position or improve on it in the future is yet to be seen. Christine and the Queens re-peak this week climbing a single place to #9.

Outside the top 20 MØ keeps climbing with 'Final Song' up to this week's #15. Entering the top 20 are Illenium whose 'Fortress' received eighteen points from us in BJSC and coincidentally climbs to #18 this week. Alongside him Olivera re-enters the top 20 at a new peak of #19.

Quite a few songs enter the top fifty this week. Offaiah is in at #24 with Charlie Puth-sampling 'Trouble'. Snakehips jump to #27 with 'Cruel' which follows their top 10 hit 'All My Friends'. It gives featured artist Zayn his first chart appearance excluding his being in One Direction (yes, they did actually have top 50 hits here, we all make mistakes).

Jax Jones enters the top 50 with 'House Work', over a year after his last single 'Yeah Yeah Yeah' peaked at #12. It gives MNEK another chart hit also. TIEKS enters at #34 with 'Sunshine' and is the highest new entry in the top 100. It follows last year's 'Cake' which also peaked at #34, though of course it is likely that 'Sunshine' will climb in the future.

It's been well over a year since A. G. Cook last had a chart hit, but he returns this week with 'Superstar' which jumps in at #35. It is his fourth top 50 hit, the highest peaking of which was #5 'Beautiful'.

KDA follows up #11 hit 'Turn The Music Louder' with 'Just Say', which climbs 43 places to this week's #43. The song features Tinashe who has had five previous top 50 hits. Aurora also enters the top 50 with help from MK with 'I Went Too Far' at #46.

Major Lazer should have gone straight to the top with the amazing Cold Water. I'm in love with that song atm.

haha that screech note in the A. G. Cook song took me by surprise, but I can get used to it 'cos the rest of the song is so good.

yeah I didn't think you were a fan of the Calvin song it's one of my favourites of the year though as I thought it would be even before the song got released (Calvin and RiRi are the dream team really, well except for Avicii and Rihanna who would probably get at least 10 weeks at #1 if they ever did a collab, but I doubt that'll ever happen). At least we can agree Kungs is a choooon

Cold Water is indeed amazing, but it's not quite good enough to topple the amazing songs in my top 5. I think Offaiah could give the top 5 a little breakup soon though, that tune is growing on me very quickly.

06. it's very good but probably won't be hitting my top 3
11. it just seemed to suddenly stall on spotify, don't get it
24. at least it should be an official top 100 hit
27. it's not quite the tune 'all my friends' was imo
29. well it's only 2.5 minutes long so the repetitiveness is fine
34. sounds like a great summer track
43. i think it's very good myself, it's no hit but sounds good.
