The 13th January saw Madonna confirm she was to perform at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards - something she's done four times previously.
To celebrate, I've created this pole so we can find out what everyone's favourite performance is. Nothing Really Matters (1999): http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xxfln5_ma...ards-1999_music Music (2001): http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xzy09_mad...he-grammy_music Hung Up (2006): (2:30 for Madonna's performance) http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x19vip1_g...-1080p-hd_music Open Your Heart/Same Love (2014): (5:20 for Madonna's part) http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1adgd3_m...4-720p-hd_music For the 2014 performance, it's more Madonna's part we're focusing on rather than Macklemore's. |

Nothing Really Matters, the Macklemore performance was laughable and was the first time I really started to FEAR for her legacy (a lot of the online rubbish is mercifully hidden from a lot of people because they don't care enough about her to seek it out). Hung Up was great, but she's done far better live versions and Music is Music, an average performance for an average song.

I don't think any of these are her best performances vocally and they're perhaps too grand visually for something spectacular like the Grammy's. I find the vocals in 'Nothing Really Matters' to be quite shaky which is a shame as she can sing this song very well. That said, they're still not that bad so I can overlook them and I do like the performance itself.
That pelvis thrust at the camera in 'Music'. I love the 'Hung Up' routine, which is also used in the Live Earth and Confessions Tour performances, but I definitely think she does it better on tour. I actually quite like Macklemore/Ryan/Mary/Latifah/Madonna performance as a whole; the people getting married wasn't something I thought was possible at an award ceremony but as mad as it is, it was pretty sweet. I can't say I can really see what Madonna was meant to bring to the performance mind. Quite hard to make a decision but because there wasn't any which really stood out to me. Probably go for 'NRM' too. |
