Robbie Williams to open performing arts academy at London’s Olympic Park
The former X Factor judge is backing plans for a 30,000sq ft campus

Robbie Williams wants to create “the next generation of pop stars” by bringing his performing arts academy to the Olympic Park.

The singer became co-owner of LMA, which teaches courses including music, dance and film and TV production, earlier this year and has now backed its plans for a 30,000sq ft campus at Here East in Stratford.

Williams said that he was “extremely excited” about the school, which will open next year.

Neighbours on the campus will include dancer Wayne McGregor’s studio and the wider Stratford area will become home to V&A East, a new Sadler’s Wells venue, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and London College of Fashion.

He said: “I know I can pass on my experience and assist in creating the next generation of pop stars, performers and creatives.”

The move comes eight years after Williams pulled out of the Olympics closing ceremony because it clashed with his wife Ayda’s due date with their first child.

Here East CEO, Gavin Poole, said: “There is huge value in academic institutions such as LMA sitting alongside world-class entrepreneurs, creatives and academics to share ideas, knowledge and expertise.

“We look forward to welcoming students from LMA into our community and further establishing Here East as one of the most exciting creative hubs in London.”

LMA was set up 10 years ago by brothers Simon and Richard Wallace.

Its other major shareholders include former Tesco boss Sir Terry Leahy

It is hard to know what Robbie's role is at the moment & I guess we will know more when it actually happens , all I read at the moment is that he is co-owner of LMA & that they will be part of the new campus in London next year. Sadler’s Wells, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and London College of Fashion will also be on site , it's all very exciting, It's a great opportunity for Robbie who I am sure was looking for something that he could branch out on, he is getting older & I doubt he will continue forever doing huge tours so I guess this is ideal.

Robbie is no longer a patron of Wilkes Acedemy which is doing fantastic by the way , it has really come into it's own. Looking at the Wilkes Acedemy website Robbie is mentioned in the information section about the Principals Jonny, Nikki & Suzanne in terms of their careers.

It's only all speculation as as ti what the story is with Robbie & Jonny, whatever happened ( if something did happen ) I hope one day that it will be sorted out just like it was with Guy, just like it was with the Gary, Jason, Mark & Howard , sometimes pride & stupidity stands in the way of friends making up , wasted years I call it .

Just another story on LMA :

LMA announces London home in city’s hottest new creative hub

Liverpool performing arts organisation LMA has announced its brand new campus will be opening in Here East, the growing and innovation cluster in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the fastest growing cluster of tech and creative businesses in London.

LMA, which is co-owned by global superstar Robbie Williams, has confirmed that the East London location will be the home for its state-of-the-art new campus.

Robbie said: “I am delighted to now be an official member of the LMA family. As soon as I met them all I was so inspired by their passion and drive and wanted to get involved – I’m extremely excited for our new London campus.

“I know I can pass on my experience and assist in creating the next generation of pop stars, performers and creatives.”

Here East is home to a community of start-ups, creative businesses, corporates and academics, including BT Sports, Loughborough University London, Ford and MATCHESFASHION.

Housing such a thriving collection of innovators, disruptors and visionaries, it will provide LMA students with the opportunity to study in an exciting and stimulating environment and collaborate with world-class talent.

The new London campus will open in 2020 and will run alongside both well-established facilities in LMA’s founding city of Liverpool.

It will offer 14 BA (hons) degrees awarded by Staffordshire University, in a range of media, music and performing arts subjects including screen acting, digital film and TV production, music, musical theatre and dance performance.

The news of the expansion comes after a 160% increase in LMA applications.

The rise has been credited to its latest co-owner Robbie Williams, who joined the collaboration of co-founders Richard and Simon Wallace, and former Tesco chief Sir Terry Leahy and investment expert Bill Currie earlier this year.

Richard Wallace, co-founder at LMA, said: “We are incredibly excited to be able to announce the new campus at Here East, which will help us enrich the lives and creativity of even more students in 2020.

“Since we first opened our doors in 2008, LMA has become a centre of excellence for world-class training and successful collaboration.

“Students don’t come to us just to gain a degree, they come to develop and enhance their passion needed to excel in the creative sectors. And as soon as they walk through the door they become part of our LMA family.”

He added: “With a wide range of vision-led projects being celebrated in Here East, alongside the many cafes, shops and event spaces being showcased at the development, we feel it is the perfect place for our new students to explore their own creativity and succeed in their chosen subjects.

“We can’t wait to unveil our amazing new campus in 2020 and welcome our new students to the family.”

Here East opened its doors to tenants in 2016, and has welcomed 4,000 jobs and students to its development since.

Over the past 12 months the hub has attracted 53,500 visitors and played host to 178 events, both for tenants and members of the public.

It is a collaborative environment for businesses of all sizes to drive innovation across a range of different tech-enabled specialisms.

Gavin Poole, Here East chief executive, said: “There is huge value in academic institutions such as LMA sitting alongside world-class entrepreneurs, creatives and academics to share ideas, knowledge and expertise.

“We look forward to welcoming students from LMA into our community and further establishing Here East as one of the most exciting creative hubs in London.”

In 2018/19, 85% of LMA students graduated with a 2:1 or a first class honours degree.

Jonny is in Australia as we speak in connection with his Academy. I think it is doing extremely well.

He's very passionate about Stoke and helping local charities. Jonny's a good man. It's very easy to see why they are/were such good friends.

I thought it sad that both Pete and JW were at the Sentinel awards this last week just gone, both tweeting about it, but neither mentioning each other.

Hope they sort it one day soon. heart.gif

Maybe they met & had a great chat but said nothing about it on social media. If I remember correctly back in the day Robbie had a big falling out with his Dad over stuff being said so I guess he would be careful when it comes to personal stuff. Tbh I have not got a clue . It's awkard for family & friends when there is a falling out . Hopefully one of these days we will see them all together again.

They all share the same circle of friends don't they with Ant and Dec and Max Beesley. I see his Dad regularly mentions them.

It's also mad because they are just up the road from each other in Wiltshire.

Robbie Williams lends voice to TV adaptation of much-loved children’s book

The chart-topper worked with Grammy-winning composer David Arnold and Oscar-winning lyricist Don Black on the song.

Robbie Williams has lent his voice to the theme for Channel 4’s Christmas adaptation of The Tiger Who Came To Tea.

The former Take That star, 45, sings on Hey Tiger! which was composed by Grammy winner David Arnold, the brain behind the scores for five James Bond films, as well as TV series including Sherlock and Little Britain.

Lyrics for the track were penned by Oscar winner and BBC Radio 2 DJ Don Black, most famous for his work with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, and John Barry on three James Bond films.

The much-loved children’s book by Judith Kerr, who died earlier this year aged 95, will be brought to life in a special from the makers of We’re Going On A Bear Hunt and The Snowman And The Snowdog, and will feature a star-studded voice cast including Benedict Cumberbatch, David Oyelowo and David Walliams.

Seven-year-old newcomer Clara Ross will make her TV debut as Sophie.

Father-of-three Williams said he was inspired to join the project because of his seven-year-old daughter’s love for the book, which he claims to have read to her some 150 times.

He said: “This book has played a big part in me bonding with my kids.

Judith Kerr and Benedict Cumberbatch during a reading of the Tiger Who Came to Tea, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the book at the Storystock Festival (Gareth Fuller/PA)
“I’ve read it possibly 150 times to my first daughter, Teddy, and she is the reason I’m singing the song – I’m honouring those moments with her.

“She loved the book and I got a real heart-warming kick reading a line and her finishing it, so it will be forever in my heart.

“Plus I’m a massive fan of Don Black and it’s an honour to be singing the words he’s written.

“The song reflects the tiger’s wonderful, magical and mischievous character – it’s whimsical and just what a song should be in this film.”

The Tiger Who Came To Tea has sold more than five million copies since it was first published in 1968.

It tells the story of a tea-guzzling tiger who turns up unannounced and eats and drinks Sophie and her mother out of house and home.

Arnold said: “The book is part of the fabric of everyone’s childhood these days and it feels like the film is going to be one of those things people will keep coming back to again and again because it is the book.

“The music had to be honest and joyful like the film is and I wanted it to feel like I felt when I read that book when I was small, so there’s a slight nostalgia to it.

“And if there is a human being that knocked on the door and you thought something is going to happen, it could be Robbie – so maybe he’s the tiger!”

Black said: “This was a joy to write. It captures a mood of innocence and youth and the delightful tale; it brings a smile and makes you feel young again, if you’re not young already!

“Robbie is ideal for it because it’s a show song and he’s great with a lyric, he tells a story and he lives a song. wink.gif

“It was a dream of David’s and mine for him to sing it and when he agreed I got goosebumps!”

Channel 4’s The Tiger Who Came To Tea will be a half-hour film and is set to air this Christmas.

I just want to rock PJs

ROBBIE Williams kept unzipping his trousers to show off his Rock DJ tiger pants on his most recent tour – so it’s refreshing to see him covered up, even if it is in his pyjamas.

He was back on stage on Monday at London’s Roundhouse for his Under The Radar live gig, where he played a series of rare demos, B-sides and new tunes for his biggest fans.

And so they all felt comfortable, he told them they should have worn their PJs, too.

I told yesterday how Robbie’s upcoming Christmas album will feature his seven-year-old daughter Teddy.

And there are already high hopes for it. Bookies Ladbrokes has him as the early favourite to score the Christmas No1, with odds of 6/1.

Robbie Williams Wants To Write With Feeders Grant Nicholas
by MUSIC-NEWS.COM on OCTOBER 7, 2019

Feeder’s Grant Nicholas has been asked by Robbie Williams to do some co-writing for him.

Nicholas shares a drummer with Robbie in Karl Brazil and when the band supported the ‘Angels’ hitmaker at Hyde Park this summer, he suggested they should get together in the studio.

Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, Grant said: “There is talk of me [working with Robbie]. We played with him at Hyde Park.

“He asked me if I could do some co-writing with him.

“It will be interesting. Our recording drummer Karl Brazil has been off touring with Robbie.

“Maybe me, him and Robbie will get together.”

In August, the Robbie Williams took to social media to share a black and white photo of himself back in the studio, leading fans to speculate he might be working on a Christmas album.

Robbie didn’t give the game away, leaving the caption blank but a stamp on the photo revealed it was taken on May 28, 2019.

Meanwhile, Robbie’s collaborator Guy Chambers recently revealed his friend’s approach to creating new music is often quite spontaneous, and he has to make sure he’s always recording just in case the singer does something “really very strong”.

He said: “[Robbie] gets quite a buzz from a track already in progress. He likes a certain amount of music to … So what we tend to do when he walks through the room is we immediately give him a mic, a handheld mic, and he immediately starts singing, if he likes the track. We record everything he does, because sometimes his first thoughts are really very strong, and I’m sort of playing along at the same time trying to interact with him. I like jamming with people when I’m writing. I like playing at the same time, I like getting involved, and not just watching it. I like … I suppose directing it in a way, and that’s what it’s like with Rob.”

Earlier this year, it was claimed that Robbie wants to make another swing album after being inspired by his Las Vegas residency.

An insider said at the time: “Robbie is a huge fan of swing and believes his performing style of singing and joking with the audience has a direct link with greats like Sinatra and Martin.

“Getting on stage in Vegas, where those guys were kings, to sing those tracks again has given him the impetus to make another swing record. He’s starting to list the songs he wants.”
