Kenya's Evans Chebet successfully defended his Boston Marathon title - with two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge back in sixth.

Chebet won in two hours five minutes and 54 seconds, with compatriot Kipchoge finishing 3:29 behind him.

It is only Kipchoge's third defeat in his previous 18 marathons.

Kenya's Hellen Obiri, competing in just her second race over the marathon distance, won the women's race in 2:21.38

Russian and Belarusian athletes who receive state funding must remain excluded from international sport, says UK culture secretary Lucy Frazer.

Last month, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes are allowed to compete under a neutral flag.

However, the IOC has yet to make a decision on the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Frazer said athletes who receive Russian or Belarusian state funding cannot be considered neutral.

Botswana's 2012 Olympic 800m silver medallist Nijel Amos has been banned from athletics for three years after testing positive for a prohibited substance.

Amos, whose silver in London was the first Olympic medal ever won by his country, was suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) in July 2022 after an out of competition test detected a banned metabolite in a urine sample.

At the time of the suspension, the 28-year-old was in the United States preparing for the World Athletics Championships in Oregon.

The ban will end on 11 July 2025.

That's sad to hear - particularly for such a trailblazer for his country.

Britain's Dina Asher-Smith says she is relishing the chance to test herself against some of the world's best in the Diamond League opener in Doha.

Asher-Smith will line up in a high-quality 100m field on Friday which features reigning world 200m champion Shericka Jackson.

The 27-year-old went undefeated during an indoor season which saw her improve her British 60m record to 7.03 seconds.

"I'm very much a competitor so I love challenging races," Asher-Smith said.

Dina Asher-Smith finished third as Sha'Carri Richardson set a new 100m meeting record at the opening Diamond League of the season in Doha.

American Richardson, 23, clocked 10.76 seconds, beating the previous meeting record of 10.80 set by her compatriot Tori Bowie, whose death at the age of 32 was announced on Wednesday.

Britain's Asher-Smith ran 10.98secs, with Jamaica's Shericka Jackson second.

"I'm so blessed and thankful, I feel at peace," said Richardson, 23.

"All I do is the best I do and I'm excited to do it."

Asher-Smith said: "The whole point about my season is to race against the best and I did that tonight.

"I am really happy with my race, third place is a good start and the time is decent."

British sprinter Dina Asher-Smith will race the 100m at the London Stadium Diamond League meeting on 23 July.

Her appearance will be a key part of her preparations for August's World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Asher-Smith, 27, last ran at London Stadium at a 2019 Diamond League event, when she was second to Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica in the 100m.

"To be back competing in the London Stadium will be very special," said the former world 200m champion.

It was at London Stadium where Asher-Smith ran 10.99 seconds in the 100m in 2015 to set what was then a British record

UK Sport is in talks with UK Athletics (UKA) about the "possibility of providing some investment" for July's Diamond League meeting in London.

The funding agency told BBC Sport that "no decision has been made yet, but conversations are ongoing".

Track and field's governing body approached the funding agency for help with its flagship event at the London Stadium amid financial difficulties.

Far from just an evening of racing, the Night of the 10,000m PBs pitches itself as a "celebration" of the 25-lap event.

It is that ethos which has led many to believe the unique event represents the future of track distance running.

Dubbed the "Glastonbury of the 10,000m" thousands will gather for a free night of racing, music, entertainment and the 'lactic tunnels of love' on Saturday.

Britain's 2022 winner Jessica Warner-Judd and runner-up Amy-Eloise Markovc both return at Parliament Hill, London.

Scottish record holder Andrew Butchart is among the contenders in the men's event, as the elite British athletes compete for UK Athletics Championship honours and World Championship qualification.

Kenya's Hellen Obiri defended the women's title in 31 minutes 14 seconds.

She also held off the chasers when running the second leg as England won the 4x400m relay.

It was the 30-year-old's first competition since winning heptathlon gold at August's Commonwealth Games.

Indoor track and field competition will be renamed 'short track' in a change by World Athletics which the governing body hopes will help grow the sport.

Indoor championships will remain but the move is intended to encourage "competition innovation", with the traditional indoor 200m track providing flexibility for outdoor use in cities.

Performances on outdoor or temporary 200m tracks would be recognised as official results, including records.

It will come into effect on 1 November.

Karsten Warholm and Jakob Ingebrigtsen shone on home soil at the Oslo Diamond League, while Britons Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita finished tied fourth in the women's 100m.

Warholm clocked the fourth-fastest 400m hurdles time in history as he won in 46.52 seconds at the Bislett Stadium.

Compatriot Ingebrigtsen thrilled the crowd by setting a European men's 1500m record of three minutes 27.95 seconds.

Asher-Smith and Neita clocked 10.98s in a race won by Marie-Josee Ta Lou.

The Ivory Coast athlete crossed the line in a world-leading time of 10.75s to beat the Bahamas' Anthonique Strachan, while Jamaica's world 200m champion Shericka Jackson was awarded third - in the same time as the two Britons.

Catching up on that Diamond League event now - always nice to see how they're all performing a few months away from the World Championships! Some young names I hadn't heard of before taking wins - Erriyon Knighton in the 200m and Birke Haylom (only 17 years old!) in the mile.
