I easily prefer Katy Perry.
'Teenage Dream' the album is up there with one of my favourite album of all time, I'll compile a list of my overall top 10 from both artists but Taylor recently is slaying me very hard. |

If I blatantly look at how many songs I like by both artists then it's Katy Perry.

Taylor personally, I connect with her songs more, and they stick with me longer. I do like Katy, but I find I kind of sta her during eras and then forget about her a bit kore between eras, unless I sort of hear her songs or they come on shuffle for example.

As an artist overall: Katy Perry (but '1989' might be the best (my favourite) album by both artists)
As a personality: Katy Perry (by a ridiculous amount). |

Katy easily. I pretty much couldn't stand Taylor before this era, save for a very select few songs.

Easily Taylor! All of her albums are very strong, I'd happily listen to any song in her entire discography and I can connect emotionally to her songs too. The only Katy Perry album I go back to is Teenage Dream, and her songs just don't have the same connection to me as Taylor's. Katy's singles are mostly all great though!

This is actually really tough. Neither has been consistently good across an entire album campaign, the closest is probably Teenage Dream (though California Gurls) and 1989 (though Shake It Off and Bad Blood). Taylor has more excellent tracks, but also has more albums. That said, I preferred her before she got on hit wagon, whereas Katy has always been unashamedly on it. On balance, I'd say I prefer Katy.

Taylor has a few gems (and she's getting better and better as time goes on) but for me, Katy Perry has been consistently good (save for a few questionable single choices) over all three albums so far.

I like Taylor, but Katy has something that Taylor hasn't got.
Plus the ratio of Katy Perry's amazing songs go Taylor's....Katy wins hands down. |

I didn't know Taylor Swift had haters. It makes me happy to see that she does.

I'd say Katy easily but, whilst Taylor seems to be on the ascent ever since 2012, I think the quality of Katy's material has deteriorated since that year. Teenage Dream was a near-faultless pop album campaign - the album was packed full of hits with a lot of them showcasing Katy's tongue-in-cheek personality. Sadly, I feel 'Part Of Me' onwards, she has lost that quirky spark in her music. As far as singles go; 'Roar' is a poor man's 'Firework', 'Unconditionally' is just dull compared to 'The One That Got Away', 'Birthday' is basic as hell... I think Katy has slowly lost her spunky and outrageous edge and has now morphed into the All-American Girl. In short, she once was PG and now she's U.

I can kind of see where you're coming from with that, except I can't see the similarity between 'Firework' and 'Roar'?
(aside from the vaguely similar theme of empowerment) |

(aside from the vaguely similar theme of empowerment) Yeah I was more going on the empowerment theme. Maybe I'm way off the mark here, but since 'Firework' was Katy's biggest single from the TD era, I assume that may be the reasoning behind leading the follow-up album with a song that contains a similar message. I could be very wrong though. This post has been edited by Scene: Sep 28 2015, 06:04 PM |
