Dexton's Top 40 (08/05/2017) (Week 52)
Huzzah! Ariana finally climbs to #1 after being stuck behind Avicii for two weeks, giving her her first chart topper here with No Tears Left To Cry. Avicii's Friend Of Mine featuring Vargas & Lagola falls to #2 with strong competition from Billie Eilish & Khalid's lovely which debuts at #3. Whilst this is Billie's first entry in my chart, Khalid is quite the regular here with Lovely giving him his 6th consecutive Top 5 hit. Blossoms claim their highest charting song to date as the very long-titled There's A Reason Why (I Never Returned Your Calls) shoots up to #4 from #13, leap frogging their previous single I Can't Stand It (8-14). Shawn Mendes' In My Blood spends a second week in the Top 5 (3-5). George Erza's Paradise (5-8) falls out of the Top 5 for the first time in 8 weeks, which funnily enough is the same amount of time Justin Timberlake's Filthy spent in the Top 5 before also falling to #8. Two huge songs of the year for me both looking at a high end-of-year placing, but who will come out on top in 7 months time? Emma Blackery released another single on Friday titled Agenda, much in the same vein as Dirt but inherently better I think and an actual bop. Her Reputation-esque era has been great so far and Agenda is probably my favourite release from her already, bring on the album Amy Shark also earns her first Top 10 hit with I Said Hi (37-10) which coincidentally happens to be exactly 1 year after Adore peaked at #13 here (see the retro top 10 below). Other notable climbers this week are Kendick Lamar's Love featuring Zacari (19-12), Cash Cash's Finest Hour featuring Abir (27-17), George Ezra's Shotgun (28-21), Palais' Instant Crush featuring Your Girl Pho (38-27), Blossoms' Cool Like You (38-29), and Duke Dumont's Inhale featuring Ebenzer (39-33). Finest Hour is Cash Cash's 3rd consecutive Top 20 hit, after All My Love featuring Conor Maynard and Jewel featuring Nikki Vianna peaked at #15 and #9 respectively. A total of 9 (!) new entries make an appearance in the chart this week including Billie Eilish & Khalid and Emma Blackery in the Top 10. Robinson's Nothing to Regret (#19), Dennis Lloyd's Nevermind (#31), Cardi B's I Like It featuring J Balvin & Bad Bunny (#35), Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo's Genius (#36), Liam Payne & J Balvin's Familiar (#37), Childish Gambino's This Is America (#39), and Post Malone's Spoil My Night featuring Swae Lee (#40) make up the almost all-star cast of new entries this week. Cardi B has been very hit & miss for me - I thought I'd warm to her over time but only the odd song from her I find myself going back to. I Like It also gives J Balvin his first hit here whilst also grabbing his second as his Liam Payne collaboration Familiar debuts in the same week! Collaborations are abundant this week but none are quite like the joint project of Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo who have released their first single Genius under the alias/project name 'LSD'. The name itself isn't the most creative especially compared to Diplo's other projects but Genius is... genius and should definitely climb here. Childish Gambino's big comeback soon-to-be hit This Is America came equipped with a brilliant music video to suit the song like not many other music videos do. It's no Redbone, at least not yet, but it's definitely something I recommend to anyone out there. Over in the album chart we have an entirely stagnant Top 5 although for good reason as I'm enjoying everything here a lot. Blossoms' Cool Like You remains at #1 as the British band quickly become one of my favourite modern-day bands behind the likes of Bastille, The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Paramore, and a handful of others I stan. Bastille cemented themselves for me with Wild World and with a new single coming very very very soon (but not soon enough) they will be in for a sucessful era on my chart. Last year their Green Day cover of Basket Case peaked at #10, whilst the single release of Glory made it to #15 - if not for me overplaying it to death on the album's release it could've been higher to be fair. They also achieved their first #1 here late last year on Craig David's I Know You - which also spent 8 weeks in the Top 5 to jump back a few paragraphs Although with a chart run sliced in half by Near Years Craig David won't be as high on my end of year as George or Justin! Hi Dexton!
Nice to see Blossoms into the Top 5! Great to see them get 2 Top 100 hits this week Loving Nevermind as well! Really hope this can be a decent-sized hit for him, we need some new dance music up there with all this urban I'm a little unimpressed with the new LSD I have to say, it could grow though! Familiar on the other hand is a biiiit of a guilty pleasure... Great chart |

I'm really loving the album right now and the singles are 10/10 too I was so surprised that I Can't Stand it was almost Top 75! Shame Charlemagne couldn't pull it off though Nevermind reminds me of the sort of dance music doing rounds back in 2015, I hope it can become a hit I was expecting a bit more from Sia + Diplo, after all their last collab (to my knowledge) was Elastic Heart which was brilliant. Liam Payne has a way of making guilty pleasures Thanks for commenting! |

Hello Dexton!
Like the top 3 (heard "Lovely" just recently and it's good, could grow on me) and I like the debuts for "Nevermind" (it's very big in my country, could reach the top 5 there), "I Like It", "Familiar" and "This Is America"! And the retro chart is a nice touch, many songs that I can remember liking them! Great chart overall! |

Hey Dexton!
Nice #1, it's been growing on me steadily since release. Even though when I listen to the chorus I keep hearing Irene Cara's 'Flashback... What A Feeling' Good to see Blossoms top 5 too, is that confirmed as the next single then? Nice consecutive trio of new entries down the bottom: 'I Like It', yes I definitely like it, a bit of a guilty pleasure; 'Genius' is, well not quite genius, but still very good; and 'Familiar' I didn't think much of when I first heard it but I'm starting to get into it now. Great stuff as always |

Hi Dexton!
arrow up.gif 01 02 Ariana Grande No Tears Left To Cry [2-2-1] great #1, at least Avicii got 2 weeks in first. It's her best song to date for me. Not keen on the rest of your top five, oops. arrow down.gif 11 06 Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa One Kiss [1-2-4-6-11] already out of the top 10, ouch! ne.gif 31 00 Dennis Lloyd Nevermind [31] liking this a bit but not enough for my top 100 so far, would be nice to see more of this genre doing well again but it's not quite as great as some of the chill house we got back then ne.gif 35 00 Cardi B I Like It (feat. J Balvin & Bad Bunny) [35] not surprised this is set to be a big hit, the sample works well and it's a great cross between latin and hip hop ne.gif 36 00 Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo Genius [36] quite an odd song, it's kinda good but I'm still not sure ne.gif 39 00 Childish Gambino This Is America [39] fab video, song's a grower too. good to see it finally giving Donald a proper UK hit anyway (though I'm sure 'Redbone' has sold well despite its low chart peak) ne.gif 40 00 Post Malone Spoil My Night (feat. Swae Lee) [40] one of the album highlights for me too, he's really improved and impressed this era great chart! |

Nevermind is a banger too I can't believe it's been a year since I started this Time flies! Thanks for commenting! Hi! Hi Bridge! Lovely is lovely, I really hope it can become a hit for them! Great stuff as always Hey Mango! No Tears Left To Cry reminded me of a 2012 Usher song or something when I first heard it I'm 99% sure it's the next single! It's been added to Spotify playlists etc. so I imagine R1 will be supporting it in a few weeks Genius is really great I think, I preferred Audio at first but Genius has grown on me a lot this week. Familiar & I Like It have both become guilty pleasures Thanks for commenting! Hi Dexton! arrow up.gif 01 02 Ariana Grande No Tears Left To Cry [2-2-1] great #1, at least Avicii got 2 weeks in first.
