BuzzJack Music Forum _ Television _ The X Factor ● Series 12 ● Live Show 1

Posted by: Ryan. 28th October 2015, 04:19 PM

The theme for the first live show has been announced, so I thought it would be good to start the thread for the first live show!

Theme
The first live show theme has been announced as "This Is Me" where the finalists will "each perform a song they feel shows who they are as an artist". (http://www.tellymix.co.uk/reality-tv/the-x-factor/237400-first-x-factor-live-show-theme-revealed-and-its-not-halloween.html)

Special Guests
It has been confirmed that Ben Haenow will perform his new single 'Second Hand Heart' on Saturday, with Ellie Goulding and Little Mix performing their new singles 'On My Mind' and 'Love Me Like You' respectively on Sunday.

Programme Details
Saturday 31st, 8pm - 10.25pm, ITV1
Sunday 1st, 8pm - 9pm, ITV1

Xtra Factor is on straight after the Sunday show on ITV2 plus there is a brand new show at 7pm on Thursday (tomorrow!)

Oh blimey I misread that as Demi Lovato theme for first week at first! laugh.gif

I imagine a barrel of cliché choices (when are there ever not in X Factor, however this is asking for it really) but I s'pose preferable to the largely tenuous Halloween selections.

If only! sob.gif

But I like this theme, my favourite themes are always the broadest ones as there's no point in getting future popstars to sing big band songs and so on.

Posted by: troylovesmusic 28th October 2015, 04:41 PM

Not going to lie when I found out what the theme was I instantly thought of that Demi Lovato song laugh.gif Exicted for theme though as it should give all of the final 12 a chance to showcase themselves on what kond of artist they want to be.

Posted by: Martyn 28th October 2015, 04:48 PM

Hopefully it won't be a ballad bore-fest.

Posted by: Liаm 28th October 2015, 04:59 PM

I quite like this theme too, it's broad but still gives a bit of focus, hopefully we get see what kind of artist each act wants to be right from the off.

Posted by: Dannoween 28th October 2015, 05:23 PM

yay at it not being halloween themed, that would be a really bad choice for week 1.

i'm liking this idea anyway.

Posted by: Jonjoltergeist👻 28th October 2015, 05:28 PM

Hasn't Mason Noise run out of options? laugh.gif Considering he did 2 JT songs and then a Robin Thicke (who was supposed to be "the new JT" with 'Lost Without U'). Looking forward to it though. It's gonna be great! Such a ridiculously strong year!

Posted by: Liаm 28th October 2015, 06:08 PM

Some song suggestions I thought of, there was a thread on DS:

Louisa: Fighter by Christina Aguilera
Lauren: Hello by Adele (I dunno if she'd let them use it before she performs it live herself but I can so see them using it as a huge moment for Lauren "she learned it in a week" etc.)
Keira: Killing Me Softly by Roberta Flack/The Fugees

Che: Nirvana by Sam Smith
Mason: Jealous by Nick Jonas
Seann: Pretty Hurts by Beyonce

4th Impact: Lose My Breath by Destiny's Child
Alien Uncovered: Disturbia by Rihanna

Bupsi: Proud Mary by Tina Turner
Anton: Dance With My Father by Luther Vandross
Max: Take Me To Church by Hozier

No idea for Reggie & Bollie tbh.

Posted by: Jonjoltergeist👻 28th October 2015, 06:14 PM

Reggie & Bollie I'd say 'Locked Away' tbh. That's actually a great choice for Mason and Seann.

Posted by: Vülkiller 29th October 2015, 12:24 AM

Justice for Lucie Jones!

Posted by: jase. 29th October 2015, 01:50 AM

Imagine if somebody performs Hello by Adele laugh.gif

Posted by: Liаm 29th October 2015, 07:14 PM

Monica has been announced as the wildcard >_> I don't mind her but I really don't think she's that good compared to Simon or Jennifer for example. She won't last long at all anyway, she's so unlikeable, I just think they really want a girls winner!

Posted by: Maurice Horan 29th October 2015, 07:16 PM

Why only bring her back, bring back one of every category and let people vote who can stay of the 4. A bit unfair to other categories really.

Posted by: Martyn 29th October 2015, 07:20 PM

Bring her back just for her to be eliminated in week 1.

Posted by: JosephStyles 29th October 2015, 07:24 PM

I doubt she'd be eliminated that soon laugh.gif She's obviously not gonna win but she's bound to get enough votes to at least avoid the bottom 2/3 in week 1 you'd think, over the likes of Bupsi, Mason Noise and Reggie n Bollie.

Not my #1 choice at all but she's very talented so I can't complain really.

Posted by: Liаm 29th October 2015, 07:52 PM

Song choices in the spoiler thread please!

Great to see Monica back! Thought she was brilliant at JH so more than warrants her place.

Posted by: Liаm 29th October 2015, 08:49 PM

She defintiely won't go week 1 but I'd be shocked if she wasn't the first girl to be eliminated. It depends how Keira comes across and progresses I guess, she could easily come top 5 or so but equally there doesn't seem to be much hype around her. Also DS forum seems to randomly despise her laugh.gif Although tbf what DO they like?!

What Do You Mean?

Posted by: UltraBasicWitch 29th October 2015, 11:29 PM

I'm glad Monica is back tbh cheer.gif I loved her last series and even though she's been quite poor on the whole this year, her judges houses peformance was stunning heart.gif

Posted by: Liаm 30th October 2015, 12:28 AM

I expect Monica's song will be one of her originals, an original song is the perfect fit for "This Is Me" theme really. You can't get much more "me" than a song you wrote!

Posted by: Robot 31st October 2015, 08:05 PM

Not sure how much I'll see of this with getting ready for going out, looking forward to Keira and Che most of all from seeing the song choices!

Posted by: Halloqween 31st October 2015, 08:11 PM

Omg this is karaoke HELL. Not just the song, her weak ass vocal and non existent stage presence.

Posted by: JosephStyles 31st October 2015, 08:12 PM

Yeah that's such a karaoke song choice drama.gif Her voice in INCREDIBLE though and she delivered on that count. I hope to see something more current from her in future weeks.

07.5 Lauren Murray

Posted by: Robot 31st October 2015, 08:13 PM

Yeah, that didn't really flatter her. It's not that she didn't sing it well but yeah, it was very karaoke, very 2 Shoes, she can do better than that. She won't go far with stuff like that making her look... average. Fun but she's better than that.

Posted by: Halloqween 31st October 2015, 08:13 PM

Haha at Simon becoming Brucie.

You took the words out of my mouth, I was going to say very Karaoke.

She does remind me a lot of Stacey from EE biggrin.gif

Posted by: Hayzayy 31st October 2015, 08:15 PM

Lauren was good ! Those vocals were great smile.gif She needs to work on her stage presence but it was very enjoyable.

Lauren - 6.5
It was just oK. Always dangerous to perform in the beginning of the show.

Posted by: Halloqween 31st October 2015, 08:15 PM

Simon is actually making this show for me now, he can't even feign interest in the overs!!

Posted by: Halloqween 31st October 2015, 08:18 PM

Omg reggae Adele. No.

Posted by: gooddelta 31st October 2015, 08:18 PM

Lordy, if ever there was a song that wasn't made for reggae production...

Posted by: The Grim Reaper 31st October 2015, 08:18 PM

Just murdered Someone Like You, poor Adele sob.gif nono.gif

Posted by: Robot 31st October 2015, 08:19 PM

They've really ripped this straight out of the Stephanie Nala left over instrumentals, haven't they? Vocally he did well but it really didn't suit the arrangement which made it feel a bit less impactful than it should've done.

Posted by: Davidson 31st October 2015, 08:19 PM

Lauren Murray - Yes, it was a bit karaoke but it was always going to be with that song and the horrible staging. Vocally she did fantastically. - 08.0/10.0
Max Stone - Arrangement was not good, didn't like that version at all. Vocally good but sung with no emotion at all. Not keen. - 05.5/10.0

08.0 Lauren Murray
05.5 Max Stone

Posted by: JosephStyles 31st October 2015, 08:20 PM

I like how they changed that song around actually, it's better than just giving him a piano ballad. Vocals on point and overall a good performance but I want to see a bit more personality laugh.gif

08.0 Max Stone
07.5 Lauren Murray

Posted by: Hayzayy 31st October 2015, 08:20 PM

The first verse of SLY was atrocious, but then Max did a good job with the chorus. His expressions looked forced though. Oh and I'm not too sure the reggae treatment works for SLY laugh.gif

Posted by: Jester 31st October 2015, 08:21 PM

Well Max was different I guess! Really like him and he has a cracking voice.

Posted by: Halloqween 31st October 2015, 08:25 PM

Max can really sing, but dear Christ on a bike that was painful arrangement wise. The whole thing was a mess and should never have happened.

Posted by: Halloqween 31st October 2015, 08:25 PM

Also, the problem with that was that he sang it with too much power I think. Losing the sentiment and meaning of the song behind a wall of VOX.

Posted by: Robot 31st October 2015, 08:31 PM

That all felt very underwhelming. I don't think they're anywhere near as good as they think they are and that was a big step back from the last two performances for me. Poor choice, did little to show off any vocals, once again just a bit 'eh'. I should care about them but I really don't.

Posted by: JosephStyles 31st October 2015, 08:31 PM

I've always really liked Alien and that was one of their best for sure, I really hope they connect with the public but I feel like they won't sad.gif

Alien Uncovered - 7.0
Max Stone - 7.0
Lauren - 6.5

Posted by: Hayzayy 31st October 2015, 08:35 PM

That was a very good performance for Alien, although I really don't like Do it like a dude. I think it's hard for the public to connect with a 6 member girlband, but they really deserve to go far.

Posted by: Halloqween 31st October 2015, 08:36 PM

Oh me, oh my. That was horrific. The "song" is just the worst and the whole thing just wasn't my cup of tea at all. They can't even sing very well or harmonise.

Posted by: Halloqween 31st October 2015, 08:37 PM

Simon suggesting they could be the next big band worldwide suggests he's been sipping some of Louis' insane juice.

Posted by: Halloqween 31st October 2015, 08:41 PM

Hmm. I adore Kiera, but that arrangement didn't really do her any favours and the bv's were far too loud.

I liked that song choice for her and it was excellent to hear her sing something current but I think Simon has a point actually, a performance like that won't make her a star despite it being good. I liked it anyway ~

I like Keira a lot, probably not her best performance, the song just felt too big for her.

Posted by: Robot 31st October 2015, 08:48 PM

Disappointed by Keira, not sure I see her doing much better than a Jade Ellis with performances like that, once again, underwhelming as seems to be the theme of tonight.

Posted by: gooddelta 31st October 2015, 08:48 PM

Absolutely loved that performance, but I dread to think if it was Disco week, he will need to move a bit.

Posted by: JosephStyles 31st October 2015, 09:02 PM

Ché's voice is great and he has potential but that felt very very dated. Ain't No Mountain High Enough is a song we've all heard so many times before and he didn't make it his own I don't think. Hopefully that can be worked on in future weeks or it'll be a covers album out for Mothers' Day next year at most.

I didn't care much over Bupsi's performance

On the other hand 4th Impact that was amazing *.* they have so much appeal, I can see them in the final.

Great performance from Monica probably her best performance to date.

I do think Bupsi and Reggie N' Boile will be the 2 acts going home tomorrow as usually a group goes in the first week, and maybe Lauren could be in the bottom 3

Seann coming last looking forward to his performance, my favourite act from the Boys category,

Posted by: Halloqween 31st October 2015, 10:08 PM

The verses were excellent but I felt the chorus was a bit eh. Looked incredible though.

Posted by: Jason 31st October 2015, 10:08 PM

I don't get his appeal. It's just as dated as Shirley Bassey and Barbra Streisand to me.

I'm not really sure what to make of that. His vocal ability is superb and I certainly won't argue against that, but to me this is a show to find a popstar when he'd be more suited to theatre with a performance like that. It was great for what it was though.

There's something WAY off with the vocal levels on this.

Posted by: AdamAloud 31st October 2015, 10:17 PM

4th Impact were the stars tonight, they absolutely smashed it! *.* Louisa really impressed me too after initially finding her overrated.

I think Lauren, Max, Bupsi and, sadly, Reggie 'n' Bollie are in trouble for tomorrow night.

Posted by: Red. 31st October 2015, 10:17 PM

tbf to Ben Haenow this is the first time I've heard this and it's actually not bad. Catchy chorus and good beat.

Posted by: gooddelta 31st October 2015, 10:18 PM

Second Hand Heart is actually my favourite male winner's first post-show single, but it still sounds like a decent album track rather than a lead single, even with Kelly on it...

Posted by: Ryan. 31st October 2015, 10:29 PM

My personal favourite tonight was Louisa, the first time I've really got the hype with her. Her whole appearance tonight was also a spitting image of Diana Vickers too which helped me finally connect to her! heehee.gif

In complete contrast to my final 13 prediction the other day where I placed Lauren as top girl, her horrible starting order position and the only one to clash with Strictly and a mediocre song choice has put her in prime contention for bottom 2 along with Bupsi who isn't novelty enough and not a good enough singer or performer to get any votes. Alien Uncovered will also be close to that bottom 2, but I think Lauren will poll lower thanks to that Strictly clash. Kiera will also be down there, she seemed to suffer an identity crisis which I think is what Simon was sort of getting at - although it actually was one of my favourite performances of her. I definitely think she's more Jade Ellis than Alexandra Burke as I've thought all along though. As Rob mentioned earlier, I immediately noticed the re-use of Steph Nala's generic reggae backing tracks with Max tonight - hopefully he doesn't suffer the same fate as it was a solid performance.

So my prediction for bottom 2 is Lauren and Bupsi with the latter leaving, but if either escape then Alien Uncovered and Kiera are next to fall into the showdown. I'd be surprised if anyone aside from those 4 are in the bottom 2 though, maybe Max thanks to his running order slot but no-one else.

Posted by: gooddelta 31st October 2015, 10:29 PM

Voted twice for 4th Impact, twice for Che and once for Louisa.

Posted by: gooddelta 31st October 2015, 10:34 PM

I don't see Lauren in the bottom two despite everything going against her, as she seems to be quite popular. I think it could be between any of Bupsi, Max, Alien Uncovered and, sadly, Keira in danger tomorrow. Maybe Mason too if the public really just haven't warmed to him.

Posted by: Robbie Darko 31st October 2015, 10:40 PM

Hmm the microphone wasn't turned up louder for Ben I don't think. A lot of straining going on...

Louisa vocally was phenomenal but I didn't like the song choice for her sad.gif 4th impact were just incredible *.* those harmonies were tight as anything. Anton and Seann were also brilliant as was Lauren who has to be down as the best ever performance for the first act of the live shows of any past X Factor series for me!

Bupsi and Kiera were by far the weakest. Both performance and vocally got swallowed up by the other performances I think and didn't like the reggae with such a huge song as 'Someone Like You' but Max's vocally really good imo! Obviously like most people he just needs some character. Decent first show overall though.

Posted by: Chez Werewolf 31st October 2015, 10:41 PM

That was a rather good first live show I thought not even THAT many questionable song choices! (Except for Louisa singing a song she doesn't know on a week called 'This is Me' and a song that's meant to represent her as an artist thinking.gif)

Having said that [/simon], she was probably the best tonight, she needs to control her voice a bit more, but it is pretty stunning. 4th Impact and Seann were great too, though they weren't quite at their best tonight.

I'd be shocked if Bupsi isn't out tomorrow, I just cannot see who would vote for her at all, she's not even entertaining like Reggie and Bollie, just karaoke and poor. Mason was pretty awful too, wouldn't be surprised if he was in danger too, he doesn't seem that popular with the public.

Good LORD at that reggae version of Someone Like You though, if there was ever a more misguided attempt at 'putting a twist on things' drama.gif

Voted twice for 4th Impact, 1 for Sean, 1 for Kiera and Reggie and Bollie as was actually really impressed wub.gif

Posted by: MrIndependent 1st November 2015, 12:51 AM

Kiera and Bupsi will be bottom two, I think; but it was an underwhelming first show on the whole: I only rate Fourth Impact, Mason, Louisa (who are the only three that really stand out for me), Sean and Monica. None of the performances were terrible, but the other eight ranged from filler to simply average for me. Che and Max have great voices and it's a shame that they had awful song choices and stage settings, Anton is good but I find him really uncomforting to watch (I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way); Reggie n Bollie are fun and I think that they'll bring in some votes enough to avoid the bottom two tomorrow; Lauren and Kiera are dull; Alien (I refuse to call them Alien Uncovered, which stands for nothing) are an overrated mess; and Bupsi is all personality.

I want Alien and Reggie n Bollie in the bottom two, but I'm sold on Kiera and Bupsi -- definitely the latter -- landing there, and the iTunes positions -- even though they don't necessarily represent the votes -- seem to agree with me.

Posted by: Scary Spice 1st November 2015, 01:34 AM

Argh I actually like 'Second Hand Heart' but Ben's live performance was a strong reminder of how much I disliked his vocals in the competition last year, and they sound worse now! drama.gif

Posted by: Jason 1st November 2015, 02:48 AM

I thought it would be bottom 3 ohmy.gif

I really don't care if Bupsi, Alien or Max Stone leave.

Voted 3 times for Reggie 'N' Bollie, once for Anton and once for 4th Impact. tongue.gif

Gonna catch up properly when I've slept but I've just had a quick watch of my faves.... Louisa wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

Kiera was hugely disappointing though for such a perfect song choice! And she can't afford to be weak, she doesn't have the hype that the likes of Che, Louisa or 4th Impact do.

Posted by: Jonjoltergeist👻 1st November 2015, 12:04 PM

A very strong opener! No one was bad I didn't think. Some were a bit forgettable/filler and suffered wrong song choices etc.. but vocally and performance wise, everyone seemed to be strong enough but not too strong so we can see improvements etc...

Mason and Kiera suffered from the songs being in the wrong keys for them, which is a shame and Kiera could be in trouble due to that, but her save me song will hopefully be better than Bupsi or Alien's. Anton was alright, but his voice irritated me a bit too much and they're focusing on Seann being "too theatrical"... ermmmm...

Louisa impressed me so, SO much. How she managed to take such a bland song and do what she did with it. Wow. 4th Impact were v good despite it being my least faves of theirs so far. Monica surprised me. That was perfect for her, but I still can't warm to her! Towards the end of that interview she came off as extremely cold and unlikeable.

But I think we're looking at a Louisa, Ché and 4th Impact final 3. Although we'll see with the latter and if the UK public get annoyed with them or not.

Posted by: *The Beast 1st November 2015, 12:09 PM

I see 4th Impact managed to screech and blabber their way thriugh their performance again. Together they are phenomenal but in their solos it's just all round tragic and annoying

Posted by: Hayzayy 1st November 2015, 12:18 PM

Are the Youtube views usually indicative of the popularity of the acts?
4th Impact have over 300k for this performance, Louisa is second with 130k, and Alien is third with 110k.

Posted by: Rooney 1st November 2015, 12:20 PM

4th Impact will get found out. They're very good, but signing Problem is no trouble for them - that's who they model themselves on afterall!!!

I thought it was quite an impressive show, there is some good talent this year for once. Bupsi has to be in the bottom two, I can't see any fanbase for her at all! Reggie and Bollie were my favourites.

I've noticed that 4th Power seems to always get double as much views and likes on Youtube it seems there international fanabse is quite big. I've also noitced that there fanbase seems to be targeting Alien's video's and disliking them as Alien have quite a lot of dislikes from there peformance wasn't even that bad ( I actually quite enjoyed there peformance)

Posted by: *The Beast 1st November 2015, 01:00 PM

4th Power seem to have a bit of international hype going for them, especially around Asia, so that'll bring in some views as well

Posted by: HausofKubrick 1st November 2015, 02:25 PM

'This Is Me' week.. and all the songs are chosen for them huh.gif

I really loved Alien Uncovered - i wanted them to do well before the performance anyway but they certainly delivered. I found it very uncomfortable that they kept mentioning that they're British and they're proud they're a British band.. was it back-handed shade to 4th Impact?? unsure.gif Talking of though, they are INCREDIBLE, true professionals and beautiful people too away from the fact that they're superstars.

Kiera was really underwhelming. I don't know if it was song choice or what, but that song is HUGE and she was miles off doing it any sort of justice. Probably doesn't help that I'm so attached to the song in original form.

Anton, wow. Che is the new Jahmene isn't it :3 Monica was vocally very good, i liked it. And the production was fabulous too!

Think it might be between Bupsi, Keira, Reggie n Bollie tonight..

Bupsi just fell flat

Hope she's ok! ohmy.gif

Posted by: sammy01 1st November 2015, 03:20 PM

I haven't watched any of this years X factor since the first ep and missed the first live show so just watched the performances on youtube.

It is interesting having done that as I have no idea of any storylines bar the Mason thing because he was all over twitter.

From what I saw in the youtube videos the producers or Simon don't want Max to build up any fanbase or votes and out asap. He is cute and the typical nice male singer who could clean up votes but a reggae version of Someone like you should suppress his vote (think Paul last year having some horrific song choices and backing tracks).

Mason's song choice was obviously to play on the storyline that has been on running with him having a 2nd chance.

How on earth has Anton got to this stage? I can only assume he has a sob story of everyone he has ever known dying because he was beyond dreadful. It was actually painful watching his 2 minute youtube video.

Bupsi, is she the joke act? I don't get it, it was like a 50 year old Steph from last year, flat as a pancake.

Kiera a decent voice but fed to the wolves with that song choice and arrangement.

Monica is this years feel good come good contestant and she did a good job. I'm not sure how far she will go though.

Louisa can sing and was given a great song choice, an early fave to win? Certainly wouldn't be a bad thing for the show if a pretty white female singer won, would feel almost fresh as that hasn't happened before (though women vote more and vote more for men so they would have to work hard to make that happen).

4th power are impressive but feel like they will get old fast. Also having all 4 looking identical, dressed the same wont help identify them with people or as individuals.

Alien Uncovered (what a terrible name) are too try hard as was the song choice. Forced edgy just doesn't work and the public usually see through it. Plus most have rather annoying voices. Think they will survive a few weeks though as there is some cannon fodder to get out first.

Lauren doing Whitney, This is me, no this is X factor by numbers. Decent enough but wont be winning her the show.

Reggie and Bollie, it is what it is I guess, entertaining in a way but completely pointless in another as they aren't winning this and even if they are semi popular there will come a time when the public says 'but this is a singing competition'.

Che, I found him instantly annoying, with a rather annoying voice. He can sing but decent singing larger males tend to lose out around mid way point and I'd guess that for him.

Seann, it was so west end musical performance and delivery of the song. He has a good voice but it all very over dramatic and stage school. Though his staging was the most 'star' like and impressive looking so I'd wager they want him to last.

For 'This is me' the song choices were incredibly awful for some contestants and I cant imagine they picked them themselves.

Bottom 2 or 3 prediction for me would be Bupsi, Kiera and Anton (but I can only assume he is popular to get this far with that voice so maybe Reggie and Bollie instead).

01 Louisa Johnson: 9.5/10: A bit of an oddity to perform something she had no knowledge of beforehand for 'This Is Me' week but she sold it to us and more! I really liked the arrangement of this song as it gave her the chance to be subdued and then unleash the huge notes on us at the end. There's something about her voice that is so captivating.
02 Ché Chesterman: 9/10: I adore his performing style and how it comes across so slick and effortless. While I think I may have preferred the entirety of 'Tears Dry On My Own' instead, he really nailed what he was given.
03 Seann Miley Moore: 9/10: WHAT a voice. His style is very theatrical indeed but he is another one that is just so captivating in his delivery.
04 Monica Michael: 8.5/10: I was a bit sceptical about her coming back as she can be quite hit and miss for me. However, she was given a really inspired choice and made it rather gorgeous. The only thing that's a tad off-putting is a slight overconfidence that comes across but aside from that I was pleasantly surprised.
05 Reggie n Bollie: 8/10: Okay they're totally my guilty pleasure now. When their performance began it felt like the show had suddenly been lifted, immense energy and fun about them.
06 4th Impact: 7.5/10: I was blown away by their audition and bootcamp performances but their JH performance and this one were neither in the same league. Having said that it was still a whole lot of fun, they're so cute and likeable!
07 Max Stone: 6.5/10: THIS was my major disappointment this week! Max's voice really does it for me so I was so disappointed at this misfire of a song choice! Adele and reggae fusion is just a huge no. Having said that, I did enjoy about the last thirty seconds or so when he was really going for it.
08 Anton Stephans: 6.5/10: This took a couple of minutes to really get going for me but when it did it was actually rather beautiful. So the same as Max really, saved by the ending but I wasn't huge on the entire performance.
09 Alien Uncovered: 6/10: They're still a bit style over substance for me. I did enjoy the raps towards the end of the performance but otherwise their harmonies really aren't great and the chorus felt a little flat.
10 Lauren Murray: 5/10: I do really like her voice but this performance felt so run-of-the-mill and karaoke. Basically just a misfire, she still has the talent to impress me should she stay.
11 Mason Nosie: 4/10: His whole stroppy moment aside, I actually have enjoyed some of his previous performances but this didn't really do much for me. While the song choice itself was refreshing, I don't think he delivered it very well. I was rather bored after about a minute.
12 Kiera Weathers: 3/10: I found her overrated anyway and sadly this didn't do much to change my mind. What really should have been a moment just... wasn't. Her voice isn't all that great and I just don't find her interesting at all.
13 Bupsi: 1/10: Why is she here over Jennifer, for instance! She actually has a decent voice so isn't even that novelty. I just don't get it! Pretty bad song as well.

Ben was really poor I thought sad.gif Shame as I adore Second Hand Heart.

My Votes This Week:
Alien Uncovered x2
Louisa x2
Monica x2
4th Impact x1
Bupsi x1
Keira x1
Seann x1

Reggie N Bollie- Just utterly horrifying racket of noise, wasn't even funny. 0/10
Max Stone- Vocals were good but agree with Cheryl that moving it to reggae was an awful choice, it just lost the beautifulness of the original! 3/10
Mason Noise- Not too bad surprisingly, song suited him pretty well. 4.5/10
Lauren Murray- Quite fun but felt a bit like a cruise ship, she has had a lot more stronger performances than last night. 5/10
Anton Stephens- Great vocals but a little bit boring. 6/10
Keira Weathers- This could have been a standout moment but it wasn't sad.gif Easily the best song choice this week but she wasn't great unfortunately sad.gif 6.5/10
Che Chesterman- Great performance and the mashup worked fantastically, only reason didn't vote for him as sure he is completely safe! 7.5/10
Bupsi- She's just so fun in my opinion! 7.5/10
Seann Miley Moore- Fantastic performance with stunning vocals. 8/10
4th Impact- Really fun as usual but they've done better. 8/10
Monica Michael- Shocked at how amazing she was, the song choice was perfect and her vocals were outstanding. 9/10
Louisa Johnson- Fantastic vocals as usual, absolutely stunning! 9/10
Alien Uncovered- There is something about them I love, their performance, vocals and dancing are fantastic and they are so enjoyable to watch! 9.5/10

Great show on the whole heart.gif

I included white as obviously Leona and Alexandra have won. Little Mix felt fresh winning as a band hadn't done it and I think it would (in my mind any way) feel different having a young pretty white female winner crowned. I mean have we even had that many of that demographic even make the final?

Well it obviously matters in some way to the audience as there hasn't been a white young female winner (and barely a finalist I can remember). That surely cant be in keeping with the demographic of popular artists in music today that if you picked out 11 randomly you wouldn't pick out someone of that demographic.

So why has there never been a white young pretty girl winner? Are the producers not able to handle how to get the best out of them, is the voting audience too swayed towards young women who feel threatened by a young pretty girl, have we never had a good enough person of that demographic (Ella defo was what went wrong there?). If the producers or whoever is in charge could figure that out it might change things up. I mean how many times have I read 'another boring white male winner' on this forum and every other forum.

10.0 Louisa Johnston (Stunning vocally. Not even massively keen on that song but she made me love it. What a star)
09.5 Che Chesterman (Loved the mash up and both songs were great for him. I just love his runs so much, his vocal control is undisputable)
09.0 Seann Miley Moore (I love him so much, he's so likeable and give it his everything. I thought it was vocally so strong and I found the theatrics captivating)
08.5 4th Impact (The song suited them perfectly and they coped with the rap so much better than I thought. I just felt the performance level was a little down on usual)
08.0 Lauren Murray (The song was karaoke and very X Factor by numbers but vocally she nailed it. I hated the staging so much though)
08.0 Alien Uncovered (Was not a fan of them until Judges Houses where they were great, and I thought this was another very good performance. Loved the rap)
07.5 Kiera Weathers (Okay, it wasn't quite the moment I wanted from her but I still thought she was good enough. I don't get the mass criticism, there is something lovely about her vocals)
07.0 Monica Michaels (Coped far better than I thought she would actually. Song let her show off her tone greatly but I still think she's very average for all the hype)
06.0 Anton Stephans (Apart from the last 30 seconds I didn't think it was anything great. I think the criticism of Seann's theatricality could easily be put on Anton, who I find more annoying with it)
06.0 Bupsi (Clearly going home this week, she's so much like a 2005 contestant. I thought there were some very good vocal moments in there though, so good for her. Shouldn't have made it through though)
05.0 Max Stone (A real shame because he has a great voice but that song/arrangement was horrible. He did what he could)
04.0 Reggie N' Bollie (I suppose it was quite fun but they don't do it for me)
03.0 Mason Noise (It is hardly a hard song to sing but somehow he found Justin Bieber vocally challenging. He was out of time with some of the choreography too. He needed to smash it and he failed)

Quite clearly a Buspi & Kiera Weathers bottom two tonight, unfortunately for the latter. Kiera will get through and hopefully up her game drastically next week.

Overall, probably the best opening show I've seen. It is a talented group this year, normally I find it hard to find more than one person to root for but this year I feel kind of spoiled for choice.

Eek. I hope they rectify it! It'll be interesting to see the figures anyway at the end of the series. I imagine 4th Impact will have about 35%+ of the votes or something!

Absolute joke if they don't. Makes a mockery of the whole show. Saying that, it's more a problem with Apple/iTunes than the App. Probably doesn't matter so much this week, but later on it will.

Posted by: Adam 1st November 2015, 07:21 PM

I thought it was a bit of a mixed bag - some really strong performances, others not! The whole This Is Me theme where they didn't pick their songs was silly though.

Would rank as follows:

01. Monica - Really surprised me. Her control was incredible, she placed every note to perfection - clever song choice being Sheeran but not obvi-Sheeran. Smashed it exactly when she needed to. Really didn't see her as cold either, thought she seemed very warm and grateful.

02. Louisa - The other person who smashed it. Some of the notes it seemed a bit like she was guessing haha but was still a superb vocal on a usually boring song.

03. 4th Impact - I think they are just so cute and clearly talented but it is doing my nut in that they are just described as perfect with no sign of constructive criticism. They are so so breathy on the verses, it's only the big notes that are 'wow'. It made me LOL that one line was 'I get a little bit breathless' - it was apt.

04. Alien Uncovered - Not perfect but thought they gave a good account of themselves Some decent vocals, a fun rap, good performance values, passion. I hope they survive this week at least.

05. Max - Don't get me wrong, the reggae was terrible and as if Cheryl was the only one who said so. It has worried me as I really love his voice and he TOOK it there on the last chorus but the arrangement would have been better left as is. Still, ace vocal.

06. Che - Why on earth were these two songs mashed up? What has a love that can overcome mountains have to do with tears drying on their own? Stupid. I wouldn't have minded one line of it as a nod but they did too much. Plus Ain't No Mountain instantly makes it karaoke, it's almost impossible not to. Would have just preferred Amy, he sang and intonated it well. Can't argue with the vocal.

07. Lauren - Much like Che's ANM, this song choice just INSTANTLY makes you karaoke fodder. She did sing well but it made her forgettable when other people came in with genuine artistry. I think it'll see her through week one but it didn't make her stand out.

08. Seann - The vocal was miles ahead of some of the people above him but what was with the 'it needs to be a song, NOT cabaret' line, then THAT? Ridiculously cabaret - uncomfortably so on a show like this? The notes he hit for 'Mars' were impeccable but I just felt awkwardly about it.

09. Anton - Easily my least favourite and I thought the vocal was quite weak to begin but the toned down crazy eyes helped (there were still some) and the end was a very competent vocal. Simon's only okay song choice.

10. Kiera - She wasn't as bad as people have made out but it definitely wasn't a moment, where it could have been. On Xtra they showed a preview, she was just stood there with her afro singing first verse - sounded promising. But while she looked STUNNING she lost her identity, and the beats they added made the whole thing seem very generic and faceless. Could have been Tamera Foster, it wasn't the Kiera we have had thus far.

11. Mason - That was a pretty weak vocal. Great song choice but he was out of his depth.

12. Reggie and Bollie - They make me smile but are they really able to compete here? Not at all. Plus, they definitely were down to do Beautiful Girls, did ANYONE stick with the song Cheryl chose them?!

13. Bupsi - She was such a favourite of mine but not any longer. One of the weakest vocals, the novelty is gone, and a terrible song choice from Simon. For an unknown tune you have to be pretty much mindblowing. She was just fine. Almost certain bottom two.

OUTCOME.
I think Louisa, Che, Seann, Monica, Anton, 4th Impact are the six safest. Lauren had a few things against her but I think she'll survive. There are six around the danger zone - Reggie and Bollie, Alien, Bupsi, Mason, Max and Kiera. I reckon the two groups will be okay. I hope Max is. I have a feeling it could be Bupsi and Mason and it depends if they want to drag Bupsi through the competition to the tour - but if it's those two I suspect she'll go. If it's against Max or Kiera or Alien, she'd probably stay.

2 going tonight bye Kiera then sad.gif

Posted by: Liаm 1st November 2015, 08:01 PM

Finally caught up! What is it with everybody having not heard their songs or not liking the initial choices? laugh.gif

10/10 Louisa (absolutely stunning, her voice is ridiculous! It's just effortless, I'm astounded at how she took a fairly dull song I've never keen on and made it so captivating! Leagues ahead of the others tonight, I have nothing bad to say at all! She just has everything)
9/10 Che (his voice is incredible, he can effortlessly really give me chills and draw me in <3 A solid song choice as well for him to finally do an uptempo!)
9/10 4th Impact (I love their sass and performance skills, they attack every song and it's always so polished and powerful! Perfect song choice, I can't believe Cheryl initially selected Shut Up And Dance rotf.gif)
9/10 Seann (the theatrics really worked for him, because of both his style and the song choice! I found they added to his performance, really enjoyed it)
8/10 Monica ( (vocally I can't deny it, much better than most of her other performances bar her JH, but she really is so unlikeable, even just her facial expressions while she gets her comments.... Also it was a bit repettive as a song, I'd have chosen maybe something else, but it was very good to start with)
7/10 Kiera (as I said, a very disappointing performance for such a fabulous song choice... Her voice is perfect for it, I think it was the production really. It felt really weird that Rita said to focus on the emotion and really emphasised but they kind of drowned her out with the production in the chorus. Also what the f*** was she wearing? rotf.gif It would have been stunning if it was just Kiera stood stood singing it with a basic arrangement!! It was still good though)
7/10 Lauren Lauren (it really wasn't that bad laugh.gif Just a bit cheesy, especially with the production. A bit of an insult to her talent really, she should really be an Adele sort of power and soulful singer but I think Rita wanted her to do an uptempo - it just could have been a much better one! Nick was bang on really, fantastic vocal but she did not need all the stuff around her!)
6.5/10 Alien Uncovered (not bad, but I don't think that was to the full of their potential... I like that they took a stand and chose a song because I hate when the artists have no balls and complain they don't like the song only afterwards, but Hollaback Girl would have been SO much better <3 But I like their aggressive performance style and their confidence)
6/10 Mason (not bad but not great either, I think he'll be fine for now but he'll have to up his game... His vocal was a bit off, which it shouldn't be for what is quite an easy song)
5/10 Bupsi (she's so fun as a person but that was pretty dull.... Her voice isn't THAT bad but it's not strong enough, overall it was OK. I wish she was "nasteh", like I really enjoyed Pony at JH last week! I agree she's very 2005 from Louis or Sharon's category laugh.gif The funny thing is if they had her then Simon would be saying how bad she is I imagine. I just feel like it's ridiculous she got through and Jennifer didn't...)
3/10 Anton (his vocal tone can be as irritating as his personality.... I understand his talent but he has 0 X Factor and I just cannot take to him at all)
2/10 Max (wtf was that.... Of ALL songs to make a reggae song, you don't do it to Someone Like You!!! It completely wrecked the sentiment and feeling of the song. His voice is a bit weak too, Jay James teas)
1/10 Reggie & Bollie (awful, absolute joke... They're not even "fun" for me, I hate joke acts who get labelled as "fun" as a way to justify them beating loads of actually talented acts)

I feel like it could be Kiera going, I can Bupsi pulling off some nasteh and them all saying Kiera needs to find herself or soemthing.... It will almost certainly be one of those two anyway.

EDIT: Oh two leaving, both of them then I imagine... Kiera could beat Reggie & Bollie in a sing off but not Max I imagine.

I haven't done a scored rank yet but safe to say ALIEN are bottom. It was all quite close at the too but generally 7/10

Kiera's voice sounded really good in that peformance she has a really nice tone but she just needs the right songs for her voice.

Bupsi definitely gone. Then think take your pick out of Max, Mason, Alien Uncovered, Kiera for the other two.

Posted by: Jason 1st November 2015, 08:12 PM

I think the bottom 2 will be Bupsi x Kiera with Bupsi leaving.
If there was a bottom 3 Alien Uncovered would join them.

Posted by: Davidson 1st November 2015, 08:14 PM

Bupsi will go straight away and then I think it will be Kiera and either Alien Uncovered or Mason Noise in the bottom two with her. I hope Kiera can pull off a 'I Will Always Love You' type vocal because I don't want her to go sad.gif

Not really, the girl problems have always been throughout the X Factor is that they're generally fighting for the same target audience. You're splitting votes 4 ways.

Posted by: MrIndependent 1st November 2015, 08:53 PM

The girls in Alien don't seem very likeable either; beyond their appearances they have zero personality and just don't seem very nice.

Posted by: troylovesmusic 1st November 2015, 09:00 PM

In terms of the sing off they made the right choice but Kiera will probably end up going next week anyway where as I think Alien probably stood more of a chance of getting a rebound vote .

Posted by: Liаm 1st November 2015, 09:02 PM

Simon was correct, the point of the sing-off is to show who's better at fighting for what they want and who can pull it off when it really matters, and that was of course Kiera tonight. I agree she needs real guidance but it doesn't seem clear what direction she needs to go in and that's what's difficult. I can see her maybe scraping through the rebound next week and going week 3 unless they really hit it.

Posted by: Scherz 1st November 2015, 09:03 PM

Alien Unconvered were never going to connect; it's the right decision for them to go.
Boybands were struggling with the vote last year so a girlband like that didn't stand a chance.

I was rooting for Kiera over Alien after that sing-off performance, I love Alien but I don't think they can provide the future "moment" that Kiera may be able to - I think they've already peaked. That said I did see this downfall coming for Kiera weeks ago, I just don't think she has that likeability and is overall a bit bland - although even I thought she'd last a couple of weeks before falling into a sing-off. She doesn't have the performance skills of an Alexandra/Fleur, she doesn't quite have the vocals of Louisa (although still fantastic of course), she doesn't have her own niche like Monica seems like she may have and she doesn't have the likeability of Lauren and Louisa in particular.

I agree there is potential for Kiera but she's on too much of a back foot compared to Louisa, and I think Monica has stolen Kiera's "beta girl" status (Sofabet reference sorry). And Lauren's fanbase is definitely there considering she survived the Strictly clash and mediocre song choice. We'll see if the producers fancy keeping Kiera around with a late performance slot and a stripped back vocal performance next week, if she doesn't get that then I think she's probably a goner next week unfortunately.

Posted by: Calum Hood 1st November 2015, 11:30 PM

Kiera was disappointing last night, but she is a good singer, so good to see Alien Uncovered going because they were shit anyway. Bupsi was fun, but probably best to get rid of all the driftwood early on. Just Reggie n' Bollie to go now.

Posted by: sammy01 1st November 2015, 11:30 PM

The right 2 going considering Alien did probably the most put-offish song you could get away with on X factor. Kiera being bottom 3 was no surprise either.

Max avoiding the bottom 3 should worry all of those who don't want another boring male winner, they basically gave him a noose of a song and production and he seemingly sailed through it.

Re-watching Mason's performance he actually did a very good job, the dancing was pretty slick and he looked pretty convincing as a male popstar. If he had been a guest performer and done that with a bit more production value and the dancers with him from the start it would have been more than acceptable.

Posted by: Jonjoltergeist👻 1st November 2015, 11:45 PM

Max seems to have gathered a genuine fanbase. Probably down to how harsh Simon was with him during 6 Chair Challenge (there's harsh, then there's just evil!). He seems to be an underdog and in all honesty, it wouldn't surprise me if he came 2nd in the votes (behind 4th Impact) and has a Janet Devlin sort of decline in popularity.

Lol I wouldn't go that far he will probably be gone in the next 2 weeks or so.

Little Mix were superb tonight heart.gif Ellie was also really good!

Absolutely gutted about the exits though. I really like Bupsi and Alien were in my top 2 favourites sad.gif They were so fun and original. And Keira bottom 3 as well when she is also in my top 3 sad.gif Awful results.

Just read through the thread after catching up with the results earlier. So relieved Kiera was saved as she has so much potential and it'd be a real shame to have lost her based on one underwhelming performance. Alien Uncovered were impressive last night but it was always going to be an uphill battle for them as everything about them isn't suited to the show/its voting demographic, so I'm not too fussed and certainly not surprised to see them out early. And poor aul' Bupsehhh. sad.gif

Mason and Kiera suffered from the songs being in the wrong keys for them, which is a shame and Kiera could be in trouble due to that, but her save me song will hopefully be better than Bupsi or Alien's.

Nice work! magic.gif

I really loved Alien Uncovered - i wanted them to do well before the performance anyway but they certainly delivered. I found it very uncomfortable that they kept mentioning that they're British and they're proud they're a British band.. was it back-handed shade to 4th Impact?? unsure.gif
Hope she's ok! ohmy.gif

Very late response to this but I took all that talk to be in reference to a comment Simon (?) made during the Six Chair Challenge about them singing American songs/not feeling like a British act. Your interpretation may have been a factor too though (unfortunately). sleep.gif

Now get your ass in gear Rita and pick her a good sing next week

I really don't think it was the song that was the problem for Kiera. With a simpler arrangement closer to the original and less going on with the staging/styling etc, I don't see why it couldn't have worked wonders for her. She's got such a strong, clear vocal and the song seems perfect on paper so it was a real disappointment that it didn't all click.

I really hope she and Rita/the producers sort out her artistic identity this week because she really has all the makings of a viable popstar. sleep.gif

I'm relieved that Kiera was saved. Even though I preferred Alien's performance yesterday, they were pretty dreadful in the sing-off whereas Kiera really upped her game and showed off her potential. Like Noah says, I hope Rita & Kiera get to work and hopefully she'll pull it out of the bag next week.

By the way, I completely missed Six Chair, and I just watched Kiera's performance from that round. Wow. I hope that Kiera can make an appearance next week!

Little Mix were fantastic *.*, Ellie was surprisingly mediocre. It seems her song doesn't translate very well live.

Yes, no-one knew that #2 hit from the other week.

Not everyone is obsessed with/follows the charts you know. I follow the charts myself and didn't even know straight away that it was the new One Direction song.

----------------

Simon had me in hysterics when he said "Alien Nation" laugh.gif but I think it was the right decision to save Kiera. I knew from Saturday that Bupsi would be in the bottom two and when they said at the beginning of the show that 2 acts would be eliminated I knew that Bupsi would be the first person to go.

Yeah, to be fair, none of the five people (including me until the chorus came about) knew what was being sung in that group performance, blank expressions when one of my mates (who isn't the best with music outside of RnB to be fair) asked what it was after about 10 seconds.

Interested to see what happens next week but I'm getting Rachel Adedeji feels from Keira now, in terms of how she's gonna do.
