Selena Gomez earns her second consecutive #1, not counting her greatest hits album from last year. She uses streaming to her advantage as Revival opens with 117K units, more than the 97K from Stars Dance, but decreasing in proper sales with only 85K. Not much else going on, The Game falls short of a fourth #1 album (maybe next week when he'll have another new entry) and Jana Kramer improves on the #19 peak of her first album.

Selena Gomez Scores Her Second No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart
By Keith Caulfield | October 18, 2015 Selena Gomez achieves her second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, as Revival opens in the top slot. The set was released on Oct. 9 through Interscope Records and starts with 117,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 15, according to Nielsen Music. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Oct. 31-dated chart (where Gomez is No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard’s Web sites on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Of Revival’s first-week units, 85,000 were in pure album sales, which also makes it the top selling album of the week (and her second-largest sales week yet). It debuts at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart. Her last studio album, 2013’s Stars Dance, was her first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It started with 97,000 in album sales (her best sales week ever). Revival is also Gomez’s first album for Interscope, after charting four studio efforts and a greatest hits set for Hollywood Records (between 2009 and 2014). Revival was led by the single “Good for You,” featuring A$AP Rocky, which became her first No. 1 on the Pop Songs airplay chart (known as Mainstream Top 40 on billboard.biz). It also climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 -- her highest charting single so far on that tally. The album’s latest single, “Same Old Love,” is climbing both lists: it was bulleted at No. 21 on the Oct. 24-dated Pop Songs chart, and rose 48-38 on the Hot 100. Behind Gomez on the Billboard 200 is rapper The Game with the debut of The Documentary 2 at No. 2 (95,000 units; 83,000 in album sales). It’s the seventh top 10 effort for The Game, following Blood Moon: Year of the Wolf (No. 7 in 2014), Jesus Piece (No. 6; 2012), The R.E.D. Album (No. 1; 2011), LAX (No. 2; 2008), Doctor’s Advocate (No. 1; 2006) and The Documentary (No. 1; 2005). The new Documentary 2 set is the first of a two-part release for The Game, as he issued The Documentary 2.5 on Oct. 16. The rest of the new top 10 is fairly quiet, save for a third new entry in the region: country singer Jana Kramer’s Thirty One at No. 10 (22,000 units; 18,000 from album sales). The effort is Kramer’s second studio album and marks her first top 10, surpassing the No. 19 debut and peak of her self-titled 2012 debut. As for the rest of the top 10: The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness slips 2-3 (77,000 units; up 5 percent), Fetty Wap’s self-titled album holds at No. 4 (53,000; down 17 percent) and Drake & Future’s What a Time to Be Alive dips 3-5 (49,000; down 25 percent). Taylor Swift’s 1989 is steady at No. 6 (37,000; down 1 percent), Luke Bryan’s Kill the Lights climbs 9-7 (31,000; up 5 percent) and Janet Jackson’s Unbreakable drops 1-8 in its second week (30,000; down 74 percent). Thomas Rhett’s Tangled Up falls 7-9 with 27,000 (down 16 percent). |
