BuzzJack Music Forum _ Television _ Grey's Anatomy

Posted by: JΛRK 14th May 2011, 08:12 AM

As part of my bid to make sure I watch as much good American television as I can I started on Grey's this week and I'm fucking loving it. This is a general discussion thread but if you're going to reference any character departures, storylines, or anything at all specific then please spoiler it or at least mention at the top of your post that it may contain spoilers. biggrin.gif

I'm only on season 1 at the minute but Meredith and Christina are my favourites. Meredith is a totally ridiculous characature and a neurotic state but I love her anyway even if her 'profound' voiceovers are silly and totally contradict her. Christina is amazing. Sandra Oh (amazing name) has mastered the art of the bewildered facial expression.

I'm not so keen on George given that he's more than vaguely pathetic but he's not bad I guess. And of course THE NAZI is wonderful.

I KNOW WE HAVE SOME FANS so speak up. Does it get even better as it goes on? Is it still decent after seven seasons? Do more fabulous characters come in?!

Posted by: Silas 14th May 2011, 08:21 AM

I have just finished season 1 having finally decided to see what people love and I too fell in love.

The Nazi is all kinds of amazingness. After i've done my last exam I'm making it my mission to get through Grey's.

Posted by: JΛRK 14th May 2011, 08:27 AM

Phil I think I love you. You're always THERE FOR ME when I need to have a little nerdy television discussion.

Posted by: Silas 14th May 2011, 08:31 AM

Well let's hope we get more than just you and me in this thread laugh.gif

God knows how the Bones thread is on 13pages, mind you that is 2 seasons of me posting to myself heehee.gif

Have you met Addison yet? She appears in episode 9 i think and is just AMAZING. She's the one that leaves in the back door pilot for Private Practise to head up that show.

Posted by: David John 14th May 2011, 09:08 AM

Grey's anatomy is a fantastic show that gets better each season. I hope you enjoy

Prepare for a few major departures along the way but i always felt it never affected the show.

Posted by: LϴVETT 14th May 2011, 05:02 PM

I've watched Grey's since Season One, I absolutely adore it. wub.gif

Posted by: Alias 15th May 2011, 03:26 PM

it's gotten really boring and i havent really watched any of the latest season. the episode where they sung throughout the whole 40 minutes like it was glee have put me off it for life.

seasons 1-5 were great though. Izzy 4eva !!!

Posted by: JΛRK 15th May 2011, 03:39 PM

I heard there was a musical episode. It sounds dementedly FABULOUS.

Posted by: Alias 15th May 2011, 03:54 PM

It was so bad, I skipped through every song which left about 3 minutes of footage for me to watch. I mean, they were singing whilst operating in surgery, it was beyond spasticated.

I also have an immense dislike for all of the characters now and can't think of a single likeable one. They're all very one note and most of the cast have become redundent and in need of killing off. Plus the new interns they bought in last season were all epic failures.

Posted by: David John 15th May 2011, 04:02 PM

I didn't like the musical episode. That was the first time ever in 7 years i never made it to the end of a grey's anatomy episode.

It worked for Buffy. It flopped majorly for Grey's as far as i am concerned.

Posted by: LϴVETT 15th May 2011, 09:01 PM

I'm surprised you guys didn't like the musical episode, it was the highlight of the entire show for me. It was by far the best episode Grey's has done and it was executed so beautifully. Sara Ramírez is an incredibly talented singer and I bought several of the songs off iTunes, I enjoyed them that much. Possibly one of my favourite episodes of a television show, ever.

Posted by: JΛRK 25th May 2011, 12:54 PM

The Thanksgiving episode of season 2 was outstanding. Addison is fast becoming a favourite. I love this programme so much, I really hope it sustains this quality as I get through future seasons...

Posted by: David John 25th May 2011, 01:28 PM

Some arguably think around Season 5 that it loses the quality which is really when the ratings began decreasing. But for me, the show is still as fresh as ever. I would say it's more fresh and got a few more seasons worth of life then many other long running shows that should either end now or should of finished years ago.

Posted by: LϴVETT 25th May 2011, 11:05 PM

I'm personally really enjoying the latest season and I've watched since the beginning.

Posted by: Rain 26th May 2011, 04:29 PM

I've seen every episode and I adore it. It's unmissable for me and one of my favourite shows. I can only think of maybe one or two sub-par episodes in it's entire history but that's it. Some of my favourite characters have inevitably left throughout the seasons but they always introduce more brilliant ones.

It really doesn't get better, sorry to disappoint you sad.gif The first 2 seasons are unbeatable imo.

Anyway, really disliked the finale of Season 7. They kinda ruined several of my favourite ships all in an episode (or 2). Ugh! And Teddy's staying rolleyes.gif
Overall I thought this was a mediocre season. I dont like the modern day family triangle that developed between these people and it kinda made me like the individual characters less.

Posted by: David John 26th May 2011, 05:33 PM

Teddy, not feeling her character at all. Never have since she came into it. She was brought in to shake things between Christina and Owen but that led no where and her storyline from where i am watching up to is rather weak really and shows poor character development.

Posted by: JΛRK 28th May 2011, 09:50 PM

So... I just watched the season 2 double episode with the undetonated bomb inside the patient in the OR and Miranda giving birth. Two of the most draining hours of television I've ever soon. And without any doubt whatsoever two of the best. They just cemented Grey's as one of my all-time favourite shows. And for as dodgy as she can sometimes be Ellen Pompeo gave an absolutely incredibly performance. Wow.

Posted by: ▲▲▲ 29th May 2011, 06:43 PM

I loved the first few seasons but when Burke left the quality slowly diminished. I don't like Cristina and Owen together, she was much better suited with Burke and Owen is dull as fuck. The finale last year was incredible but the show quickly returned to being a complete non-event this season.

Posted by: David John 31st May 2011, 09:30 AM

I was a bit mixed on the finale this year. Apart of me expected a tense one like last year but it's without a doubt left doors open for season 8 and i have enjoyed the increase in Meredith's character development who wasn't a huge focus until the last 8 episodes. I think they cut down the actresses screen time in early season 7 episodes.

Apparently they're going to focus on the original characters next season because it's probably Meredith and Derek's final one. Ellen wants to be with her family (snooze) and Patrick wants to devote more time to films (snooze). They were never going to top the finale last year obviously but this one was so dull - no surprise there.

Surely the show will finish then? After all, it's is called Grey's Anatomy and is based around Ellen's character. It would seem a bit silly to keep dragging it out when the title character has left the show.

Ellen has given Lexie "her blessing" to become the new Grey. They'll probably go down the ER direction.

Posted by: David John 31st May 2011, 02:10 PM

Oh i hope that isn't the case. If its true, i hope Season 8 is the last then. Meredith and Derek have been the glue that holds the show together. A huge centre piece. That would be like continuing Friends without Ross and Rachel.

Posted by: Euphorique 31st May 2011, 02:47 PM

There's no way this show can pull it off without Mer and Der, especially Meredith. She's the glue of the show. With both of them out, there's just no point anymore. No one cares about Lexie, Teddy, Owen, Arizona, Mark, April or Avery enough to keep watching the show for them.

Posted by: David John 31st May 2011, 02:49 PM

Although really Season 8 should be the last. If anyone remembers that in the first episode, the chief said that they would be spending seven years in the doctor's program they are in. Season 1 wasn't set in a full year as it was the shortest season.

Would make sense to end there and allow us to see where each's characters career's led to.

Posted by: JΛRK 31st May 2011, 02:57 PM

Maybe Christina could get her OWN SPIN OFF. *dreams*

Posted by: David John 1st June 2011, 07:00 AM

Its been confirmed Patrick dempsey is leaving after Season 8

In a way i don't blame him, he has been doing the show for a very long time. 8 years is a long time. I do hope Season 8 is the very last now.

If only.

Cristina is the main reason I watch the show.

Really hope Meredith stays too as I don't want it to end just yet!

Posted by: Euphorique 1st June 2011, 12:30 PM

Well Ellen did say she was gonna leave after her contract is up (Season 8) http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/news/a320919/ellen-pompeo-will-probably-leave-greys.html

Posted by: JΛRK 3rd June 2011, 10:55 AM

So three seasons in and I've literally only just realised that when Derek talks about ferry boats he's not talking about 'fairy boats'. I've spent so long wondering what the hell a fairy boat was and why a heterosexual man would be interested in them. Even with the many scenes which have taken place on the ferry boat I didn't put 2+2 together. It wasn't until Mark Sloane said it that I realised. Gah.

Posted by: JΛRK 9th June 2011, 11:00 PM

The season 3 finale was amazing! Quite understated actually and it takes a bit of getting used to think that Burke won't be in it again but they had been building up to that nicely without ever making it too obvious what would happen.

Other thoughts... Thatcher is a bast*rd. I bloody hate him. Mixed first (brief) impressions of Lexie. Callie has been really bloody annoying all season, constantly making George jump through hoops and then only starting to treat him like her equal when it was already too late with regards to him and Izzie. I loved Alex's strange little relationship with Rebecca/Ava even though it was totally implausible that she'd be stunningly beautiful after that horrific accident and so much reconstructive surgery, haha. Such a shame he didn't get to tell her how he really felt.

But most of all I'm SAD. Sad because Dr Addison Forbes Montgomery is leaving and I'm going to have to watch the obviously-quite-crap Private Practive just to get my fix of her. I LOVE HER SO MUCH. Have to say though, a bit miffed that she didn't even get a proper goodbye scene with Derek, or even that beast Sloan?!

Posted by: David John 10th June 2011, 05:46 PM

Actually they weren't building up to Burke's departure because he was fired at the last minute. But if you didn't know that, i can see why you would think that

Looking back, Callie was a rather meh character. It's by Season 5 where she became a likeable character. Mainly because of the character change they did to her.

Posted by: JΛRK 10th June 2011, 06:00 PM

Yeah I did actually know about Isaiah Washington being fired but it felt like they were building up to some sort of obstruction getting in the way of the wedding what with Burke being so much more enthused about it than Cristina. Paving the way for the exit of a main character in the space of one episode is tough but I think they did a reasonable job. It was lovely but sad that Cristina knew he'd gone because his trumpet and record collection were gone too.

Posted by: David John 10th June 2011, 06:12 PM

Burke's departure was a big one for the show i felt personally. I would love to know what could of gone on if he had stayed on. I think him staying wouldn't of allowed Character development for Christina as her character was so focussed on him for three seasons.

Posted by: JΛRK 30th June 2011, 12:08 AM

I'm surprised to say that season four is surprising me as it's going on... the last few episodes have been as strong as or stronger than anything in season three. I'm three from the end now and loving the direction it's taking. Biggest surprise for me is Erica Hahn... I absolutely cannot get enough of the woman. She's my favourite character type, strong and vulnerable. Love her. I'm seething that she only lasts one season.

Posted by: David John 30th June 2011, 06:49 AM

I loved Erica. There was slight controversey when they sacked her. They Network didn't like her character and where it was going with Callie. Of course, it made way for Arizona.

Posted by: Silas 30th June 2011, 10:13 PM

I'm still waiting for my SODDING BIRTHDAY PRESENT of Seasons 2,3,4 and 5 to arrive. Not amused in the slightest.

Posted by: JΛRK 30th June 2011, 10:24 PM

Oh my god. You'd better do a proper MARATHON Phil.

Season 4 character rate, just because:

08.5 Alex Karev
08.5 Callie Torres
10.0 Cristina Yang
09.5 Derek Shepherd
10.0 Erica Hahn
07.0 George O'Malley
08.5 Izzie Stevens
08.5 Lexie Grey
09.0 Mark Sloan
10.0 Meredith Grey - total fucking hero
10.0 Miranda Bailey
09.0 Richard Webber

Izzie is beginning to feel like a spare part, George was destroyed by the Callie pairing and the Izzie thing did nothing for either of them but every other character is becoming greater with each season. Callie has benefitted so much from not being stuck with mopey loser George it's unbelievable. Her chemistry with Erica is ridiculous.

Posted by: Euphorique 1st July 2011, 01:59 AM

I hated Hahn so much, terrible character.

The episode where Erica and Callie -------- kiss --------. This season of Grey's is bloody shit hot! I can't get enough!

Posted by: Euphorique 29th September 2011, 11:08 PM

Anyone watching this?

Decent season premiere last week, looking forward to this weeks episode. Although I could smack Derek with a brick, seriously, tired of his coldness towards Meredith.

Meredith, Christina and Alex are made of <3 as per usual. Avery finally did something useful, April still annoys, and CAM were surprisingly cute together.

Posted by: Cal 3rd October 2011, 12:18 PM

First few episodes have been great! It has been a bit stale for the past two series or so, but it seems to be back to its usual amazingness!

Also HATING Derek at the moment, too!

Posted by: Euphorique 3rd October 2011, 12:27 PM

I did enjoy his convo with Meredith in the 2nd episode, but seriously, get over it dude!

Christina and Owen are not the kinda awkward I expected after an abortion. I thought they'd be avoiding each other, but not in a perky silly way - dont find this realistic at all.

April still annoys. Arizona also pissed me off in how she manipulated Avery out of the surgery.

Posted by: Cal 3rd October 2011, 02:09 PM

I expect Owen and Christina to deal with it when something else big happens. I feel bad for April, but she is quite annoying. tongue.gif

Posted by: Cal 18th October 2011, 10:02 PM

I was quite happy with the latest episode. Avery is quickly becoming a favorite. Still can't stand Derek! tongue.gif

Posted by: Euphorique 14th November 2011, 04:26 PM

Really loving this season so far!

I love Meredith and I love her relationship with Cristina and Alex. They have such great chem.

Really didnt get the ending for the latest episode though

Posted by: Mikal 4th May 2012, 09:12 PM

How you still finding it Jark?

I'm all up to date with the US runnings now.

I find the strangest thing with this show is I fall out with the characters so often but then love them the next.

chief and his wife is so upsetting. I never cry at anything but this show makes me well up on weekly basis! AMAZING show.

Posted by: ☜★☞ 4th May 2012, 09:14 PM

Oh I stopped after the one in season 5 where Erica leaves because I was so angry, HA! But I'll be back, I just needed a break from it.

Posted by: Mikal 4th May 2012, 09:19 PM

OMG you haven't even seen the BIG one then!

There's a character fairly similar to Erica that comes into it fairly shortly smile.gif

Posted by: Osiris 5th May 2012, 04:21 AM

I am waaaay behind in this, only really started watching it a few months ago. Up to season 5 where Izzy gets sick

Posted by: ☜★☞ 5th May 2012, 10:51 AM

I started watching again last night, I'm really bloody sick of Izzy. Also if memory serves George was in ONE SCENE.

Posted by: Euphorique 5th May 2012, 11:09 AM

Izzy and George? Jeesh are you guys way behind.

Posted by: Mikal 5th May 2012, 08:14 PM

I can imaging you'll love Teddy Jark, she's similar to Hahn, but less wooden I feel.

Posted by: Silas 28th May 2012, 11:40 PM

I finally got round to catching up. Over the halfway point of Season 5 now and I'm still loving it.

Quite looking forward to Izzie leaving and Geroge dying. Addison's returns are the highlights of the post-Addy seasons. Bitch is fabulous. That is a word I rarely use.

Downside, I'm running out of episodes. Don't have anything past the season 5 finale.

Posted by: Euphorique 29th May 2012, 12:16 AM

That episode was so bloody emotional! Was in tears when Meredith saw the children but they didn't want to see her. Can't help but love Penny too, and her rant at Jackson cemented it *.*

Posted by: Joe. 13th February 2016, 06:35 PM

I had no idea this was still going. Hasn't everyone died by now?

I checked out when Lexie clocked it, that was the last straw.

Posted by: Cal 13th February 2016, 09:21 PM

I still love this show. It did dip slightly for a couple of seasons but so far this season has been so on point. The episode where Penny shows up at Meredith's dinner party was one of the best and the latest episode was also excellent.

I'm also re-watching old seasons and I'm almost done with season three. I really miss George, Izzie and Christina. I'd love Izzie to come back (never gonna happen, I know), and Christina needs to come back as well. It's not AS funny anymore and it's quite serious most of the time but I guess that happens when most of the characters are quite developed and they shift the focus of the show.

I can see it ending soon enough though. It's gonna break my heart.

Me too! I feel like if Alex and Jo were to not work out for some reason, or Jo were to leave, it'd be the perfect time for Izzie to come back and rock the boat a bit, but like you said, that's probably never going to happen.

I hope Jackson doesn't follow her plan and tries to sort things out.

Well exactly. It's April's body & he made it clear he didn't want to be married to her! Staying married just for the baby would just end badly for everyone. I think she made the right choice.

Just watched the first two episodes of Season 13. I like how it picks up straight away from the last episode of Season 12. It was a pretty raw and good opening episode. I'm struggling to see storyline arcs emerging at the moment other than the borefest that is Meredith and Riggs laugh.gif

Perfect curveball to throw into the Owen and Amelia relationship like Megan will with Nathan and Meredith, but also give some much needed mention about Cristina leaving - I can't see Teddy liking how Owen let her go. First episode name has been revealed as well - "Breakdown The House". I AM READY cheer.gif

So season 14 starts on 28 September with a two-hour premiere. Entertainment Weekly have said that the end of the premiere will leave everybody "questioning everything". Intrigued. ohmy.gif

I'm glad that the cast are saying this season will be a lot more light-hearted too, because season 13 was really starting to grate on me by the time it returned in January after the mid-season finale. Going to miss Steph, but I am also LIVING for Teddy returning, that is going to be so special. heart.gif I also hope they begin to explain, or even wrap up, the storyline of Jo and her husband, because it's dragged on a bit too long now, and it took them a long time to even acknowledge it from the point they introduced it.

I'm holding out for it to end up being a permanent return, but I think it's just a guest arc. sad.gif

It wouldn't surprise me if they did end up hinting towards that, just so long as they didn't go into fantasy territory. There's a few fan theories out there that have suggested the show should end with Meredith being treated for Alzheimer's, and the whole show ending up being a figment of her imagination... which would just be daft.

As am I - she really was the best cardio attending they got: Teddy > Hahn > Burke (I'm excluding Maggie because I don't see her being in that line of replacement as shes more of a Cristina replacement).

It would definitely be ridiculous to end it like that. My favourite speculated ending is the Webber speech being said by Meredith who is chief of surgery, talking to Sofia and Zola on their first day of their internship. That would AMAZING and be full circle on so many things for me.

As much as I disliked Burke, I wouldn't place Hahn above him. She was laughable, and the whole relationship with Callie was so cringe and just did not work. laugh.gif

Having an ending like that really would be good, and as you say, would bring it all full circle, while at the same time giving Meredith an ending she deserves after a life with so many cruel twists and turns.

It was her presence as his rival which appealed to me. Her cut throat nature from the minute we met her during Denny's heart transplant fiasco to how she was with Cristina was pretty decent but it was so cringe seeing her with Callie, especially looking back after she'd been with Arizona season 5 to whenever it was they weren't an item.

You're right, I do hope they give her an ending she deserves. I'm totally living with this seasons promotional poster, it doesn't match my love for the one for season 12 and season 13 was pretty rubbish in comparison but it is decent.

Thank the lord for no Minnick drama.gif that sacking at the end of season 13 was so expected!

I am a tiny little bit annoyed they reintroduced Leah again for her to get the boot - I think that would be an interesting one to keep in the storyline now Minnick has gone and Arizona is likely to be on her own, especially as Alex is fixated on Jo's husband.

Posted by: Emily Haines 9th September 2017, 12:46 PM

Bringing Leah back just to get rid of her again was ridiculous.

I just want Alex to have a happy ending... and not with Meredith!

Posted by: Calum Hood 9th September 2017, 02:22 PM

I actually really liked Minnick. She was a breath of fresh air in what, at times, was a really god-awful season to watch. I was rooting for her the majority of the time as opposed to everybody who questioned her every move or tried to bring her down.

Posted by: Calum 15th September 2017, 11:40 AM

Jason George (who plays Ben, Bailey's husband) is going to become a series regular in the firefighter spin-off that's been announced. If that means he'll be transitioning out of the main show, then that's music to my ears since I'm no massive fan of him.

I'm rewatching "Mama" Tried for about the hundredth time as it's one of my favourite episodes. That annoys me so much too! So much time has passed in the show, yet you still get all the Twitter fans that can't see past Meredith being happy in life without Derek being there. Riggs is literally perfect for her (even if he is somewhat a clone of Derek in some ways), but I feel even Shonda's pulling back a bit with it because the reaction from fans hasn't been too warm.

Posted by: Saenerys 17th September 2017, 02:03 PM

HALLELUJAH THERE IS SOMEONE ELSE cheer.gif

I don't particularly "ship" her with Riggs nor did I with Derek but the show is called Grey's Anatomy, not Shepherd's anatomy. I have no objection to Meredith discussing Derek like she did when Riggs found out Megan was still alive, but there was one and a half years since his death and the finale of season eleven and a whole other year on the top by season 12 yet his death is still considered "recent", nah laugh.gif If Shonda cared for fan reactions with a bit of luck he'll be killed off soon as I find him very drab anyway.

Posted by: Calum 17th September 2017, 02:07 PM

That GIF heehee.gif

Yeah, I don't ship them, but I can see why they're drawn to each other, and why they're romantically involved. It seems like a natural connection to me. At the same time though, I agree with you that if he were to be killed off it wouldn't exactly be the worst thing in the world. As much as Meredith deserves a break and some happiness, the show thrives on seeing her deal with the constant setbacks and struggles that life throws at her.

Watched the first two eps earlier today. Took me a few seconds to twig the end, I thought they were referring to Arizona!

Posted by: Saenerys 29th September 2017, 07:42 PM

I think these two episodes were better than half of season 13. I can't believe that tumour belongs to Amelia! Great twist with Deluca's sister and of course, the new sub-intern who is rather hot laugh.gif I will be fuming if Derek is bought back to live miraculously though given the ending and of course the whole premise of the episode - Owen's annoying sister. I am glad Teddy is back, missed her so much and adds a certain dynamic I feel wub.gif

Posted by: Calum 30th September 2017, 11:14 PM

The start of this season has felt so fresh and different already, I'm loving it! Season 13 really was a drag and was so dark, so it was great in the first two episodes to have such a large contrast with the comedy, etc. Teddy coming back was incredible wub.gif

Cannot believe Amelia has a tumour though, although I did twig when she asked DeLuca's sister to let her have a go with the MRI! Interested to see how this is going to play out now. I'm willing to excuse the completely pointless storyline of her treatment of Owen, and leaving for a long time, etc, but I wouldn't be sad to see her written out if she doesn't make it out since I've not really been a fan of the character in Grey's. She peaked when her time in Private Practice came to an end (unfortunately).

Teddy coming back really was incredible and executed smoothly and completely love how she called Riggs out - I'm of the opinion he needs to be next to go! laugh.gif

I'm only up to season five of Private Practice but I definitely agree as a character shes peaked - death of fiance, baby, brother, career problems, marriage problems, there's nothing else left to cover really other than medical problems which will be the season.

Posted by: SeanGrey 6th October 2017, 06:15 PM

Another fantastic episode. Amelia in this episode was simply fantastic and that end scene with Meredith was so simply effective. The scene where shes comparing herself to Derek and Richard tells her shes technically more successful was much needed - shes a far more interesting character anyway than Derek and it's glad to see her finally shake some of that "older brother is better" label off. The scene with Bailey in the boardroom with Harper Avery had me HOWLING with laughter even though it wasn't something to laugh about, it was just the clearly staged and fakeness of the stair scene with Jackson and Catherine that made me crack up laugh.gif

Posted by: Calum 7th October 2017, 12:50 PM

This season really is amazing so far, let's hope they keep it up to the very end kink.gif

I am starting to feel sorry for Amelia a lot now, it was heartbreaking to see her just spending a week looking at the MRI, sitting going through her old cases (I'm so happy Nicole got a mention in that episode though, wasn't expecting that!), etc. I'm hoping she makes it through this.

I'm actually loving Jo this season as well. I really disliked her in every season she's been in until now, but I think now that the whole 'I'm married, I've got a different birth name, I've got an ex-husband' shit has been put under the carpet (for now), I'm enjoying her and Alex rekindling their relationship!

I loved the nods to all her previous cases too - some of which I can't remember but having Nicole mentioned was perfect for me. She was such an underrated character and definitely miss her being prominent in Arizona's storyline in season eleven around the time of her split with Callie. I think she'll make it through - it would be too odd to remove her so early on in the series when things like this would be suited to a finale/mid-season finale.

I've always liked Jo but I am glad they're rekindling the relationship after the whole Deluca situation and Jo sleeping with glasses (rotf.gif). It is only a matter of time before the abusive husband comes onto the scene but I am unsure in what capacity. I remember thinking after Callie's departure he'd have come in as her replacement but due to Camilla Luddington's maternity leave I don't think the writers wanted to execute it then thinking.gif

I AM SHOOK AT THIS WEEKS EPISODE.

I genuinely felt as though it was plodding along in the same vein as "The Room Where It Happens" from season 13 and then a massive bombshell at the end. It was the three way of Schmitt giving blood, Alex giving the medication (or that we're led to believe) was the one he shouldn't and above all, Jo's husband making an appearance!!!!! Brilliant ending, I am literally shaking it was done BRILLIANTLY. I was expecting it at somepoint but not like that. Outstanding, Camila Luddington really is underrated in this show!

Posted by: SGrey 19th November 2017, 10:06 AM

It reminded me a lot of the season two finale with Denny.

At least we know this season is going to deal with this mid season finale storyline after a year and a half of waiting! Still shook by how brilliant it was!

Posted by: SGrey 19th January 2018, 05:38 AM

Classic Shonda!!!!!

only but I thought was rubbish was Matthews acting just before security were called and Camila’s acting during the monster part - other than that, outstanding!!!!! So many edge of the seat moments like when Paul left Arizona. That ending I DID NOT expect! When I read the spoilers for next week dealing with police bias I didn’t expect him to have been in a hit and run, let alone leave another cliffhanger!

Posted by: lewistgreen 25th January 2018, 07:56 PM

Return confirmed for Matthew Taylor, April's ex that she ditched on their wedding day for Jackson.

Teddy will also be returning for a multi-episode arc soon too.

Posted by: SGrey 25th January 2018, 08:26 PM

I saw that about Kim Raver but what's the point of Matthew coming back!?

Posted by: SGrey 26th January 2018, 05:41 AM

This weeks episode was pretty dire in comparison to the trailers. I thought Paul dying was a MASSIVE waste of a decent storyline that could have gone on, concluding in a court case that could really combine medical and legal, similar to Callie on trial in season 10. April's ex losing his wife was just PREDICTABLE and for an episode dealing with police bias, I thought it was too rushed and could have explored the bias in domestic violence cases instead.

Posted by: lewistgreen 26th January 2018, 09:32 PM

I really enjoyed this week's episode! It was nice to have an episode that was still quite intense, but for different reasons other than being over-dramatic. Loved how it dealt with race, religion and even Matthew's return was alright albeit subtle.

Really good to have an April centric episode too! She's a character that I feel has been mildly underused recently, especially this season.

For me, the Paul storyline ending there seems like a solid, natural ending. We've known about his and Jo's past for so long that dragging out a court case may have provided some great drama but it all just seemed tired before it even began. I certainly wouldn't have wanted weeks of a court case of Paul just denying everything Jo and Jenny say.

Of the interns though, it's nice to see some actual development with their characters. Definitely want to see more of Taryn, I feel she could provide a fair bit of comedy.

Matthew's return was utterly pointless at this stage of the season, especially how the exit of the wife as well was played out. I'd have preferred the Paul storyline to be dragged out - Jo has been so underused as a character due to Camila Luddington's maternity leave but also looking back her intern class have had some great season finales. Brooke's death was not what I wanted but it was brilliantly played out, Shane going to Switzerland and obviously, Stephanie's last season we fantastic. I really do think with the right writing behind it the momentum was there to keep him on board until the finale.

I'm not sure how to approach it based on the snippets. Obviously I can't comment until the first few episodes but based on what I've seen so far I can really see it being shorter than Private Practice as I don't think Warren has enough gusto as a character to sustain his own show realistically.

Brooke's death was not what I wanted but it was brilliantly played out, Shane going to Switzerland and obviously, Stephanie's last season we fantastic. I really do think with the right writing behind it the momentum was there to keep him on board until the finale.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already but the spin off is called Station 19 and the trailer premieres tomorrow night with the series starting on March 22nd.

I'm not sure how to approach it based on the snippets. Obviously I can't comment until the first few episodes but based on what I've seen so far I can really see it being shorter than Private Practice as I don't think Warren has enough gusto as a character to sustain his own show realistically.

Also, loved the Bailey-centric episode this week with all those flashbacks!

Just a reminder that it's back on tonight and it's the Station 19 crossover episode!

Posted by: SGrey 3rd March 2018, 06:53 PM

Starting to lose interest in this season unfortunately. The last few episodes have been substandard compared to the excitement and thrill of the earlier episodes - Amelia's tumour, Teddy's return, Nathan's departure, Paul Stadler making an appearance and the likes of Bailey's heart attack, the medical contest and the premature death of Stadler have all been half arsed in my opinion.

I am outraged - for it to happen in IWD too is shocking. I disagree with their reasoning - the characters whose creative journey have gone dry are Jackson and Alex IMO.

Return for Teddy this week!

Posted by: SGrey 29th March 2018, 05:39 AM

Ill be fuming if April or Arizona get the boot for Teddy to come back as main cast!! It is quite predictable why she’s coming back in terms of Owen and Amelias storyline though but that said she might have the resources Mer needs for her trial or something of the kind.

Posted by: SGrey 30th March 2018, 07:33 AM

Quite possibly one of the worst episodes this season! What was the "acting" during the Owen and Teddy scenes???

Posted by: lewistgreen 5th April 2018, 06:05 AM

Return confirmed now for Nurse Olivia Harper. Last seen in Season 6 after she was let go during the hospital merger. She was most known for giving her then boyfriend George syphilis (lol) from having a brief encounter with Alex. She will return with her son which is apparently going to cause problems for Alex and Jo. (*sigh* can we leave Alex and Jo alone please?)

It really does! This weeks episode wasn't "wow" in the way they were hyping it up to be but the whole twist with Marie Cerone and being a part of Harper Avery's allegations storyline was a great twist. I do feel time is running out though (and I know they've only just wrapped filming) for them to set up a decent storyline to begin writing Arizona and April out of the show. It does feel at the moment they're pruning off the interns - first Bello and then Roy this week!

It will be brilliant! I reckon April will be in some kind of accident as Sarah Drew has shot scenes on location and on set but also she posted something on Instagram a few weeks ago about not wanting to spoil the finale.

This weeks episode was quite predictable with the whole mother of Owen's baby, Jo not being ok with Olivia turning up and Jackson's contest secret getting out. That said the foundation changing names to be the Catherine Fox foundation and Roy suing the hospital were both unexpected!

I feel the spin offs aren't always as good, Private Practice is great but it isn't as good as Grey's for example.

OMG at that ending with Arizona. After Carina walked out you just knew it was going to happen! I'm glad Meredith restored justice with the Grey method and put Cerone in her place too for playing her earlier in the season. It still does concern me we are literally two episodes from the finale and they haven't set up Kepner's departure storyline.

I’m a bit apprehensive about this whole thing because judging from the teasers for next week’s episode, it’s gonna come abruptly (especially the part where Jackson starts crying). I’m glad that it doesn’t look like they’re gonna kill Arizona off.

WHAT. A RUSH.

So happy that Arizona got such a big opportunity! I feel like there could also be a new arc for Jackson potentially.

Posted by: lewistgreen 12th May 2018, 03:17 PM

Loved this week's ep! Seriously thought April was a goner but hopefully she will get a happy ending with Matthew and not take a turn for the worst in the finale!

Also, Station 19 has been renewed for a second season.

Posted by: SGrey 13th May 2018, 06:10 PM

Eurgh it was utterly predictable she and Matthew were going to be a thing again, not to mention unrealistic. I am SHOOK she survived though as she looked like a complete goner from the trailer. Shes also in the trailer for next weeks episode which is great to see wub.gif

Posted by: SGrey 20th May 2018, 03:06 PM

On the whole, it felt all very season 12 finale. The Teddy bombshell was on par with Maggie's reveal at the end of S10 and it will be interesting throwing that one into the mix with Owen and Amelia from next season. I am pleased Jo and Alex finally got married and as much as April and Jackson are a nice couple, it was better seeing Kepner's story finish with a character she would have been happy with without compromise as much as that makes me sound corny laugh.gif Arizona's ending was a bit haphazard I feel but I am glad neither character were killed off.

Posted by: lewistgreen 20th May 2018, 05:35 PM

I'm just sad April and Arizona never got a proper goodbye scene. Arizona we know is leaving because it's actually been mentioned but as for April, if I were a casual fan of the show and didn't check online about it, I'd have no idea that April has now had her final appearance laugh.gif

EDIT: Also, Station 19 finale was so much better and it actually has a decent cliffhanger worth tuning back in for!

Posted by: SGrey 20th May 2018, 08:04 PM

Suppose all this “doing God’s work” is how they’ve led April out of the series which was set up in last weeks episode with her injury en route with Matthew. I do agree Arizona’s was more explicit though.

Just checked and he’s not been there since season 7!

I feel like with Thatcher they’ll definitely have to explain where he’s been, etc (even if it is just glossing over everything in one scene). They got away with Katie Bryce because she wasn’t exactly a main/recurring character, just Meredith’s first patient.

IMO it was too corny and didn't seem natural; I just don't think there is going to be a good enough explanation for Thatcher. Tbh season 12 was a bit of a disaster/non-event all round. kink.gif

Derek's supposed killer dating Callie, Meredith being attacked and suffering PTSD, Amelia and Owen getting it on, April nearly being sued by the Avery's for not declaring her pregnancy, later giving birth in a storm, Arizona winning custody of Sofia and so many more things tongue.gif eventful indeed!

I didn't think of it like that at all tbf, drawing the show to a close by bringing back the nostalgia first. As long as they don't bring back D which would be utterly absurd.

I feel like the whole storyline with Penny was badly executed, and I've never really understood the whole 'perfect Penny killed my husband' angle. Sure, she should have pushed for a CT if she thought it was necessary, but she was a resident who probably couldn't go above her superiors when everything was so in-the-moment. I must have been in the minority that actually really liked Penny when she was brought back as a recurring character, and not just hating her because all the main characters did.

I suppose season 12 did have its moments (Meredith's attack being a highlight of the season, and the custody battle was fabulous in that I was rooting for Arizona and she won *.*), but everything else was just very... plain. kink.gif

Definitely! laugh.gif I guess they had to have somebody to blame in the aftermath of it all for the sake of a storyline, but Meredith and Amelia were just unbearable for a short while (particularly Amelia - although I've never been fond of her in Grey's; her story was finished and should have stayed that way when Private Practice ended).

It has taken me nearly four years to finish it as it didn't captivate me as much as Grey's with the medical cases, characters, the drama, etc etc. I quite like Charlotte, I especially warmed to her as the series went on - the assault storyline and her stepping up to be Mason's Mum are definitely character highlights!

Definitely. Private Practice was more focused on the main characters than having new medical cases each week more often than not. But it's worth it at the end seeing how all their stories end (particularly Amelia, Charlotte and Addison).

I read an article about that. Completely agree that they could have axed any (or all) of those four you've mentioned and I wouldn't have cared less. Maybe Arizona's storyline was more or less done (I get the impression people were only mad she was axed because they still have hope for #Calzona), but I feel there was still a lot that could've been done with April?

I don't mean to come across as narrow minded when I say this but I feel they got the axe primarily because they weren't a middle aged man who half the population supposedly find attractive. My major bug bear is that Arizona/April/Jackson all entered the show a season apart and have all had similar trajectories and there is no other explanation. April could sustain a storyline about becoming a step parent, married life, working under Alex now hes chief (which would make AMAZING TV after the drama between them over chief resident in S8) and of course her faith which could counteract Jackson's storyline. Personally I don't think Jackson adds anything to the storylines other than being an attractive surgeon who is now cuddling up to the main characters half sister who is also his step sister #soznotsoz :')

Arizona I do agree her storyline did come to a close but I really do feel she could have transitioned into an Addison type role series 4-8 with extra guest appearances to consult on fetal cases. I mean now Alex is chief who is running the peds department, the interns? laugh.gif

Moan over laugh.gif

The latest casting for Meredith's love interest does not excite me at all.

Posted by: SKepner 11th October 2018, 09:48 PM

I've really got to say this series is not working at all for me in the way that the others have. This whole Owen getting Teddy pregnant then rekindling with Amelia while they take in a recovering addict and her baby with some attempt at parenting is just RIDICULOUSLY boring. The acting is so off key, essentially crap acting on a rehashed plotline of Jackson and April and with no real interest or reason to continue. I love Meredith, shes my favourite character but I'm BORED to tears of this "finding love" and "moving on from Derek" stuff with what is about the 100th episode of her gearing up to chatting to a guy and then it falling apart so quickly. SNOOZE.

This season is so weak in comparison to the ones that have come before; the acting is SO off key still particularly for Kevin McKidd and Caterina as Owen/Amelia. Since the death of CeCe the dating expert I really do feel the storyline has gone stale and there isn't anything really happening?

How is this still going?! Hasn't like every single person died? rotf.gif It'd be safer working as a doctor during the plague!

Exit confirmed for Alex Karev ohmy.gif

Posted by: Calum 11th January 2020, 10:54 AM

I think this is the beginning of the end for the show tbh. Karev leaving just doesn’t seem right, especially when they’re saying the exit has already aired too so it wasn’t an event of any sort.

Alex will be written out this week. I swear to god if they kill him off... but not one single bit of his “exit” has made any sense. I get that he has ‘disappeared’ but to go from visiting his mother to actually not going to see her at all and just vanishing under no actual known reason if just daft. Off-screen exits can be done properly with some good writing. I hope he gets some justice.

Okay I didn’t expect Alex to run off with Izzie, let alone have two children! Idk whether I should be thankful that they didn’t kill him off or mad bc this felt so rushed and phoned in. Poor Jo </3

I honestly think they’re setting up Jo and Link as a possible couple with the Amelia baby drama coming up (since we know it’ll end up being Owen’s lol).

Aw shit that episode ruined me. RIGHT IN THE FEELS

Posted by: Calum 6th March 2020, 07:08 PM

Did Izzie actually appear then or was it just a reference explaining what happened?

I really need to catch up, I'm seasons behind now though. I think I stopped around the mid-way point of season 14 laugh.gif

Due to what’s happening the season will finish early, in 2 weeks time to be precise on April 9th. 4 episodes remain unshot so I hope they just carry those into the new season or re-work them as we’re not going to have much of a finale

So Station 19 had already finished filming and so will air as normal. Grey’s characters are going to appear.

It was revealed today that there was going to be a death of a major character in Grey’s and we could see some effect of it in Station 19’s last couple of episodes. I doubt though that maybe the death will happen and they’ll push it to Season 17, but I reckon the planned explosion will crossover anyway. It’ll be odd seeing Station 19 especially if there are any crossover/continuity issues as it airs first in the states and can lead on to the next episode of Grey’s which has happened a hell of a lot this series.

This is honestly my favorite show ever, even at season 16 it's better than most shows in their prime!

Meredith, Teddy, Amelia and Carina will appear in the Station 19 finale in a coupe of weeks. The episode has been edited to account for the cut to the number of Grey’s episodes

Winston Ndugu and Cormac Hayes have been promoted to regular characters for Season 17 whilst Carina DeLuca has been upgraded to a regular character for Station 19!

Filming has now recommenced. Scenes that were cut from the end of Season 16 will feature in the premiere of Season 17 with storylines picking up where they left off

I’m so excited for the next season! I’m rewatching right now - Heather Brook was such an underrated character!

Renewed for Season 21!!

As a Non-OG Grey's watcher, I had to binge heavily to get caught up, which I did about 6 years ago.
I think we can all pinpoint a time when the show stopped being amazing but for me, it's always been watchable, I did get Grey's fatigue a few years ago and paused after Season 18.

I'm starting to jump back in now, I guess I took enough time off because I couldn't for the life of me remember who is still on the show, who is with whom romantically, etc. But I see Teddy and Owen are still around dry.gif I think they should just keep this going for as long as they can. Haven't been able to get into any of the spinoffs. This show has a high rewatch factor. Especially the first seasons. Perfection.
