Now That’s What I Call Music! 69 otherwise known as Now 69 showcased the best of what was in the charts at the time of late 2007 and early 2008. It broke a 4 year old sales record in its first week which was impressive. This volume featured 42 tracks and 4 UK #1 singles, which was the total of available #1 singles from this era. It was this volume which introduced us to some very big names like Duffy, Basshunter, OneRepublic, Kelly Rowland (as a lead artist), Soulja Boy Tell’em, Taio Cruz, Adele, Alicia Keys and Alphabeat.

There are very little notable omissions from this volume, in fact, only two Top 10 singles are left out from this era, and they came from British groups Westlife and Wet Wet Wet. Perhaps the most noteworthy omission though come from the reunited girl group Spice Girls whose comeback single just missed out on the Top 10 in late 2007.

Moving on to the one hit wonders from this volume, we have David Jordan, T2, H “two” O, Samim, Leon Jackson, One Night Only, Hot Chipm and Mark Brown.

Artwork Rating: 4/10 Very Poor
Unoriginal design which once again for a Spring volume shows the logo high in the sky surrounded by multi-coloured objects, which on this occasion, happens to be various aircrafts. A very poor and thoughtless idea once again.

Disc 1 Favourite: Basshunter feat. DJ Mental Theo’s Bazzheadz – Now You’re Gone
Introducing the sound of 2008, Basshunter went on to storm the charts with his dance production and this song managed 5 weeks at the top which is still impressive by today’s standards. This and his follow up single were superb.

Disc 2 Favourite: Utah Saints – Something Good ‘08
A remix of a 90’s dance anthem which worked very well and sounded just as fresh as when the original was released. A wonderful job by Utah Saints keeping Kate Bush’s vocals sharp and raw.

Disc 3 Tracklist:
(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. Westlife – Us Against The World 3:58 {8}
2. Spice Girls – Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) 3:29 {11}
3. Wet Wet Wet – Weightless 3:29 {10}
4. Michael Buble – Lost 3:40 {19}
5. MIKA – Relax, Take It Easy 3:45 {18}
6. Mark Ronson feat. Phantom Planet – Just 3:51 {31}
7. Michael Jackson feat. will.i.am – The Girl Is Mine 2008 3:10 {32}
8. Sean Kingston – Me Love 3:24 {32}
9. Paramore – Misery Business 3:31 {17}
10. Avril Lavigne – Hot 3:23 {30}
11. The Wombats – Moving To New York 3:30 {13}
12. We Are Scientists – After Hours 3:52 {15}
13. Arctic Monkeys – Teddy Picker 2:43 {20}
14. Radiohead – Jigsaw Falling Into Place 4:08 {30}
15. Editors – The Racing Rats 4:17 {26}
16. Elbow – Grounds For Divorce 3:41 {19}
17. Courteeners – What Took You So Long? 3:37 {20}
18. Biffy Clyro – Who’s Got A Match? 2:22 {27}
19. Simple Plan – When I’m Gone 3:49 {26}
20. Pendulum – Granite 4:43 {29}
21. Delinquent feat. KCAT – My Destiny 3:18 {19}
22. Out Of Office – Break Of Dawn 2008 2:50 {41}
----------
Total time: 1:18:30

Overall Rating: 5/10 Poor
The sheer lack of quality in the charts at the time doesn’t make this volume a memorable one, but it does contain the best of what was available and there is little that could be changed to improve it greatly. There’s a notable amount of free space on Disc 2 which could have been used for 2 or 3 more tracks.

Andrew's Best 5 (as of December 2017)

Foals – Balloons {39}

More first year uni memories! Almost everything out was on this volume, very much cataloging all the big hits of the time. Mercy and No One are my picks here.

Basshunter feat. DJ Mental Theo’s Bazzheadz – Now You’re Gone is my favourite from disc 1 and the whole album.

Didn't like it at the time but love it now, the buildup and drop is fantastic!

I am not a big fan of Something Good 08 it is nowhere near as good as the original one from 1992 imo.

Heartbroken and Whats It Going to Be are brill though, especially the former!

My fave from disc 2 was one I liked from the time, The Journey Continues.

Decent volume, went for Duffy and Goldfrapp.

This album just reminds me of when I moved house at the start of 2008. I didn't have internet for 2 months and so radio/music channels were my go to. Literally every song here I heard so much so it all seems a bit tired for me! laugh.gif

Went for Basshunter and Alphabeat

One thing that winds me up about this volume is that they put the One Republic version of Apologise on instead of the Timbaland version.

I loved that Booty Luv track so much at the time! Such a bop!

I like the idea of having biplanes on a Now! cover, but the execution here is terrible laugh.gif

Voted for One Republic on both because why not wub.gif Although there is a few others I love here too! I think the amount of good tracks outweigh the crap ones here, but 6-7 songs from the second half of each Disc could easily be removed and I wouldn't care tongue.gif

Paramore, MIKA, Spice Girls, and Adele are the only omissions I'd wish were here sad.gif

This is the first one I ever got so I have a lot of memories attached wub.gif

Disc one:
1 Samim - Heater [what a choon!!!]
2 Kelly Rowland - Work [brilliance]
3 T2 - Heartbroken [proper banger, was great to have this introduce bassline garage into the chart if only briefly]
4 Basshunter - Now You're Gone
5 Soulja Boy Tell'em - Crank That
6 Rihanna - Don't Stop the Music
7 Taio Cruz - Come On Girl
8 H "Two" O - What's It Gonna Be
9 Kylie Minogue - Wow
10 Cascada - What Hurts The Most

Disc two:
1 Utah Saints - Something Good '08 [probably my fave on the whole set just above Samim]
2 Mark Brown - The Journey Continues [this forgotten gem!]
3 Bloc Party - Flux
4 Hot Chip - Ready For the Floor
5 Timbaland - Apologize

Worst:
1 Shayne Ward - Breathless [just awful and (thankfully) forgettable]
2 Jay Sean - Ride It [what a bore]
3 Goldfrapp - A&E [still don't get this]
4 Eva Cassidy & Katie Melua - What A Wonderful World [bleh, nice enough and for charity but quite a dull end to the set]
5 Sugababes - Change [one of their weaker songs]
