Didn't know where to put this, but it probably fits best here. Does anybody listen to any music based podcasts on a regular basis.
For example I have started listening to "And the writer is..." with Ross Golan which focuses on writers/producers behind the hits. Obviously it has a big US based bias, but it's amazing how such a small group of people are behind most of the big hits today or of yesteryear. |

Not a music based podcast, but the Case of the Forgotten Hit episode of the 'Reply All' podcast is a great listen Rooney - thanks to Christopher (Brett-Butler) for linking me up to this one.

My favourite music-based podcast is Mad Notions. It's hosted by two Northern Irish musicians (Mick McCullough, who records as Son of The Hound, & Nathan O'Regan), and each week they talk about a musical urban legend or stories, which have included topics like Princess Diana & Freddie Mercury dressing in drag to go to a gay bar, the story behind "Friday" by Rebecca Black, and the time a band pretending to be The Beatles were kidnapped in South America and forced to appear on TV. They've also had occasional episodes over lockdown where they've interviewed local musicians and people in the music industry, which offer an insight into how musicians beyond the Top 40 get by. I've suggested a few of the stories they've talked about, so occasionally I'm mentioned by name on the podcast, which is lovely for my ego. |

I've got a new music-based podcast! Think a normal R1 show x R1 Anthems x a few R2 and 6 Music things you wouldn't get on R1 at least in the daytime cos too old or too indie.
Don't expect world-class broadcasting or anything though. Here it is. |

I've started listening to Speed Of Sound, a "story behind the song/artist/genre" podcast which is definitely up my street! Hosted by Steve Greenberg who founded S Curve Records. So far I've heard two episodes on 90s pop which mainly focused on Hanson and how MMMBop became a hit, and another episode all about 'Who Let The Dogs Out' which was fascinating! There's other decades represented too, but I definitely recommend all that I've listened to so far.
I've also listened to The Ongoing History of New Music which seems more rock and alternative-based but covers other genres too. It's "Canada’s most well known music documentary" according to the description, and I've found it very enlightening. |

Thanks- will give this a listen for sure. There are some other good recommendations here. There's a good episode with Charlotte D'Alessio interviewing benny blanco on "Between Good & Evil". I also quite liked Liam Payne's podcast with Jaaackmate on his "Happy Hour" podcast. The first half is a bit crap, but the second part gives a bit of an insight in to One Direction behind the scenes. Similarly with "And the writer is" there 100+ episodes with loads of different writers/producers. I've listened to ones by Ryan Tedder, benny blanco, Danja, Gwen Stefani, John Ryan, Julien Bernetta, Drew Taggart. Lots of behind the scenes stuff which details the crafting of hits, how they got the breaks they did. Speed of Sound sounds right up my street too. |
