There really is very little discussion going on for this contest isn’t there (at least positive discussion!)!

Personally I think Aeroche are favourites from Semi 2 but I’ve not heard Semi 1 yet. I think Deandria and FSR Rontvia are going to finish in the Top 5 also!

I kinda feel like I don't know enough to make an educated guess... also for me its a pretty busy time of year so I'm less active in general. (Possibly the case for a few people with back to school/uni etc.)

I think it's quite an open contest this month, there'll be no 'Elizabeth Taylor' esque victory. At this stage I reckon Hendinia has the most cross-appeal, though there is also the opportunity for UVland/FARC to win on the pop vote, Aeroche/FSR Rontiva to win with a large dance bloc vote, or Summericia whose song I also think will have a large fanbase.

Era has all the receipts, true, but my song is similarly unusual and it even has a girl singing the whole way!! (getting desperate by appealing to Buzzjack's sense of positive gender discrimination)

I'd call Pupok, Cadelicia, Altyr as songs that could be in the mix, particularly Altyr, that's who I'd put at the top. Aeroche will surely do well but not win if similar performances in the past are anything to go by.

Excellent start, would love a top ten! Hendinia's didn't particularly scream 'winner contender' to me (though I'm sure it's a safe top ten) but I'd agree with everything else down to Deandria.

Also I'm having a bit of a blind spot because Farc and Ultraviolenceland sound just as likely to me to win as New Lexico, Helgon, Taahino or Yehesi, to name a few, i.e. some of the pop will inevitably take some of the top ten slots but I would not have picked any of them out as 'the one'. And Hendinia sounded quite unlike a hit.

Some of that is due to my biases and that I'm rushing because I'm trying to vote for the whole thing very quickly but I just... disagree with a lot of it.

I looked after it was mentioned that Ameno got sent there & it finished 6th not 10th I can't see it bettering that personally but I have good confidence in it doing very well nonetheless!

No idea who's going to win as I haven't started listening yet, would put Deandria at top 10 odds though.

Hendinia, Farc and UVland sound more like big pop songs to me, it's hard to judge with the complete lack of hype for anything this month so far yet though.

I also think Aeroche probably won't win but top 5 seems highly likely.

And I reckon 'Anemo' sounds more suited to BJSC than UP.

Can't really pick a side atm, Altyr sounds like it could win but so does Aeroche (their annual victory has to be coming at some point). Cor Lupus' entry will certainly go down a treat plus Ultra's should hoover up the pop votes. idk if Hendinia's is a winner but it'll do well, Ameno has a headstart because of UP (and i'm guessing mostly everyone who gave it high points then will do so here)

If I ever did odds again that's the best way to do it, the most discussion happens around the first set.

Ameno I agree with you on, if either contest was going to punish its relative cheapness (90s hit, popular in new-age circles and a meme, not the most uninspired BJSC's ever had but for UP it really stood out) it would have been UP. Although perhaps that would have been the UP of yesteryear when it didn't have as much crossover with BJSC and they were really harsh on boycotting songs that danced up against that line. Also it DEFINITELY fits the vibe of alternative BJSC hit, not because it's alternative in any way but because it's wide-appealing and yet something different to modern pop/modern dance so will have people earmarking it for high points, perhaps even the people who normally only vote for one kind of thing to show they can 'vote for something different'.

(this sounds like I'm blasting it a little, I do really like it but after UP I'm probably sitting out on giving it points, also I get rather interested in the psychology of BJSC)

I enjoy your optimism Dan but Go 2.0 definitely is not winning for me It's made me feel a bit more confident about where this track could go though, I was thinking it was too generic and might bomb. Who knows~

‘Go 2.0’ is an absolute tune - I thought about sending it the last couple of months, but held off because it sounded like the sort of song people would shun for being a “Spotify hit”. But if people now have it down as a top five potential, then I literally don’t know anymore! Having listened to the rest of the second semi though, it surely must have a chance. Picking a top ten is going to be seriously hard from that bunch.

I never know what crosses the right side of being punished for sounding too generic/like a Spotify hit and what is good enough to get away with it these days, so Go 2.0 was definitely not an 'obvious hit' send for me but the positive comments are reassuring either way!

Hmm...more wide open than last month, I still think Raincheck sounds like a winner but Aeroche are due one and this could quite easily do it, it feels a lot bigger than that Crystal Waters song that won for example. So I'm on the fence for now between these two. Altyr very much in the mix too though and Cor Lupus sounds like the sort of thing they often do VERY well with. A lot of hype going behind Hendinia so I have to put that above the line too, even though I'd not have called it prior to the other odds going up.

It was UK top 20 in 1994 apparently, three years before I Love You...Stop achieved the same thing!

I'd heard of both by name/seen them in chart books but never got round to listening to either before now Both very good.

I thought past UK top 20 hits got automatically vetoed, or is that not a rule anymore? Didn't realise those songs made top 20 though, and I personally agree with the decision to not veto them.

Mod discretion probably comes into play, which I agree is fair with these two tracks.

It's weird because Rockin' For Myself is the sort of thing that sounds like it should have been a huge top 10 at the time, it's funny that it stalled at #18 and hasn't been heard of since, I guess it had a lack of mainstream airplay at the time because with the right exposure I'm sure it could have been as big as Corona, Urban Cookie Collective, Livin' Joy etc...

I Love You...Stop is very Sash/DJ Quiksilver. They all seemed to come along at exactly the same time so it's hard to see who influenced who!

But yes you could dark horse it with this, I'm not ruling you out of doing well at all - if you qualify I think you'll do pretty well, it just seems like it would have been more suited to Semi 2 than Semi 1.

Actually Red 5 released first Da Beat Goes (which is very identical to I Love You...Stop!) in Germany in summer 1996, just few months before Dj Quicksilver and Sash!

Some autovetos felt harsh and y’all agreed so we reintroduced the discretionary side of the veto in the recent changes. It’s not been used much but it’s worked well as there’s been a couple of tracks caught by the AV that we’re probaby fine. This months is a great case in point!

still no obvious winner i can see, but Raincheck is the one just sticking out atm, i reckon it has a fair bit of appeal outside of the pop voters. Altyr is up there (i'd quite like to see Masterpiece take it but it just screams 'runner up' to me for some reason) and of the loads n loads of dance entries on offer Aeroche and Dobago will probably fare best
